So I'm sending my phone back to Google, and I need to restore it to stock and lock the bootloader. The problem is when I connect my phone to my computer via usb, my computer doesn't recognize my Nexus. Although it charges it. I've tested out the usb cord on my s4 and that works perfect. I tried uninstalling and installing the drivers again. But all what I get on my computer is device not recognized. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

USB Debugging enabled?
On certain ROMS mine isn't recognized if IT is enabled.
I think mine has something to do with my USB Ports/Chipset, but when I shut of USB Debugging it appears.
I'm assuming its a driver issue. Try reinstalling them using this guide

When I plug in my Vibrant to my computer, nothing happens. My phone says it's charging, but nothing else happens. No dialog that tells me that the USB is connected on the phone, or anything on the computer either that I have inserted a new flash drive. Has this happened to anyone before? Any suggestions?
After it's plugged in via usb did you mount it?

I've recently rooted and installed the VillainROM 2.0 on my SGS2.
Since then, my device isn't discoverable by any PC as a USB mass storage device. It wont' be recognized by Kies as well.
What can I do?
Please help
Edit: After rebooting it 3 times, I've managed to get it working properly.
But for some reason, it's not like before.
When I plug in the USB, in the notifications tray, a "USB mass storage" notification appears. It tells me that I need to turn it on and then off when I want to(by safely disconnecting it from my PC).
Is that normal?
Does the mount screen show when connecting?
For kies to recognize the phone make sure usb debugging is off.

After turning off "USB debugging" what I wrote in the "edit" in the original post didn't happen.
This is weird, it started working after 2 days of not working.....
Anyways, as long as it works I guess I don't have a problem. Hope this won't happen again....
I have quite similar problem. I am using LeoMar75 2.1 Revolution Rom and Ninphetamin+DesignGear kernel. My PC recognizes my phone but it cant connect with Kies. Same was when I was on Cognition 1.13 but on VillainRom 2.0 it works and connects with Kies.
Does anyon know what should be the problem?
Thanks.
Either usb debugging is on or the kies software on the phone side is removed.

My usb debugging is off and I have Kies on my phone and PC. The Adroid market is working fine but when I connect my SGS2 with usb cable to PC it says:
"Current connection mode not supported by Kies."
Any idea?
Is it possible that it is because of custom kernel?
So my Nexus 4's USB has suddenly stopped working in a very unexpected manner. It isn't being detected as an USB device when being connected to a PC and the only thing it does is take charge from it. After searching the internet for a possible solution and finding related threads, I guess my Nexus 4 is USB bricked.
My Nexus 4 is rooted and is running on a custom ROM. I've tried changing kernels, but it just won't work. RMA is not an option for me as I live in India and I bought the phone from a third party website.
The web is filled with USB unbricking tutorials, but only for HTC devices (Desire to be specific). Any options for the Nexus 4? :crying:
Did you turn off USB Debugging?
Did you try different usb port different usb cable different pc?

WAITT!! this could be the culprit since my USB has stopped working only after enabling it using this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bigeyes0x0.trickstermod
But I've already disabled it Any way to see if it's actually turned off or not?
Edit: So my Battery Status page says that my Nexus 4 is being charged by an AC source even when it's connected to USB and fast charge is turned off. I guess my phone is still in fast charge mode?
The value of force_fast_charge file in /sys/kernel/fast_charge/ folder is already set to 0.
Bump?

Try doing a factory reset. It'll probably turn off fast charge.

Return it to stock and see if that fixes the issue. Could be a bad ROM and/or kernel.
uninstall the driver in your computer and then plug in your phone. windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
Had a similar issue, but it was a tiny piece of paper that was stuck in there. Did the reset fix it?

I've tried plugging my Nexus to other laptops which don't have any drivers installed for it and they too don't recognize my phone.

How did you clean your port? I tried cleaning mine with a small piece of paper, but nothing changed.
Just curious: is there a way to flash the stock rom and relock the bootloader to send the device to repair without the USB-port?

If returning to stock did not help, then it is definitely hardware problem. But just to make sure, try going into fastboot mode and then connect to your PC. See if your computer recognizes fastboot mode

I think my USB got also bricked. Everything else works perfecty (also charging via USB), but when I'm trying to attach my phone to PC all I get is "USB Device Not Recognized". Changing rom or kernel didn't help. I also tried factory reset. Should I RMA? How can I revert to stock without USB?
This is what Ubuntu says when attaching phone:

Hey i too am facing the same issue but its a little bit different. My system seems to recognise the device n even opens the internal storage but when i try copy something from system to phone, there seems to be an error as device not responded or stopped responding.
I am using franco kernel with stock rom and used trickster mod to select option of usb fast charge but now through the app it shows that usb fast charge mode is disabled. In my battery status page it shows charging(USB) but still i am not able to copy things from system to phone..
I tried flashing different kernels even stock kernel but there seems to be no change.
Please any help or suggestions to make it right.
Ok I will try and keep this quick and simple.
I am trying to root my new unlocked bootloader Nexus 4 with Wug's toolkit.
With usb debugging enabled, my computer can't find it in fastboot.
I have tried both the universal driver method and the pdanet driver method with all of my usb ports and nothing is working. The pdanet drivers worked for my nexus 7, but they weren't working for the N4, so I uninstalled and reinstalled them for the Nexus 4. (I tried selecting LG first, that didn't work, so I tried Other, which also didn't work)
Can anyone help me?
Thanks

A very old and slow windows xp yes, but I would prefer to fix it on my windows 7 so I can eventually use it to install custom roms.
While it's in debugging mode and plugged into the computer, swipe down your notification bar. It should say connected as mtp. Press on that and change it to the one that says connected as camera. I think that's how the it is... Sorry I can't totally remember, but I know that's the only way my computer recognizes mine. And it will work just fine.
