I've read about this thread made by CarlDeanCatabay which discussed how we could increase our ram using the swap file thing.
I'm just curious if I could somehow do this with a class 4 sd card?
And how does it "degrade" sd card life? What would happen to my sd card?
Sorry. Just a noob. TIA!

sure it degrades ur card life bro
the sd card wont withstand that many read/write cycles
moreover using a class 4 card will affect the speed too
my suggestion is that you dont do it
But u can always try nd see for it urself

You won't gain much performance benefits using a class 4 card and its life will degrade too but anyhow if you just want to try it i would suggest that you download the app - 'swapper' from market - it provides an easy to use interface and trouble free swapping instantly . The way i do it is to turn swap on while using heavy games or the like and disabling it rest of the time
Thanks for the reply guys!

I recently setup apps2sd on my g1 with 1.5. I also use swapper and since I setup apps2sd, performance has been horrendous with or without swap on. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? Is my card just too slow? I don't know what class it is. Thanks for the advice
if your card doesn't have a 6 on it....its too slow.
did you buy a new card other than the one the G1 came with?
My apps are a little slower to startup after apps2sd but I figure it's worth it to have 100 X's more capacity.
It's not the stock card and I'm assuming it's not a class 6. However, I went back to using stock home instead of openhome and performance increased dramatically. Apparently openhome uses too much memory and causes other apps to swap to the same card it pulls apps from.

I'm tired of repeating that SD classes are only a rating for minimum sustained write speed. Maximum speeds are usually significantly higher, and vary from card to card based on the size of the file written.
Right, but if you make one that qualifies as a class 6, you wouldn't write a 2 on it unless you're a moron and want to undervalue it.

Did you use the JF1.5 Lucid modded one? try not moving the data/cache to sd. That was the problem i was having. When i moved it over, it was verrrry sluggish.

Try DXtop instead of openhome.
yes, im using JF but i dont think I copied over any apps or cache. performance is slightly better since I upgraded and wiped but still doesn't feel like what it should be. maybe I will buy a new card

The new Dude build is pretty fast. Give it a try.
To all people who flashed with Gold Card method, please make or if you just did it, report your spb benchmark in order to verify if it has something to do with a general low performance profile.
Thanx so much.
http://forum.revskills.de/viewforum.php?f=13. It seems that it would be possible to revert back to the situation before using Gold Card and that it has to do with ARM processor. I don't have the knowledge to face the kind of problems but it seems that my CPU low performance has something to do with Gold Card method used. So please help me to find out what has happend!
Thx so much!
I used the Goldcard quite some time ago.
The first effect was that my phone actually got a speed boost.
Maybe the specialists at the forum which you linked can be more helpful?
Hi,
Gold card has nothing to do with speed, it writes some code to the SD card to make your device think that it is a Service Center loader flashing a rom to your device.
this is why gold card ONLY works for OFFICIAL roms and not cooked.
your speed issue is something else. maybe your rom!!
also the HD2 has CPU scaling on it, there are many people here who have checked the speed of the HD2 CPU and found it not to be 1000MHz as advertised, but this is because the processor is in a low power state, and it scales up when it is needed to calculate something.
what rom are you using?

There is some strange things going on with the storage card ever since the Documents tab was introduced. This has also led to problems with Extendir.
I suspect that they could be related.

Not really related but kind of. Also look <<HERE>> additional confirmation that taking out the SD Card = Performance Gain.
Weird, I know..
As for the gold card performance loss, actually that sounds just as weird...
Hi,
my /data partition is nearly full so I thought about using data2ext. I read the code which is used by data2ext and decided to try it with A2SD and simply move /data/data to SD and create a symlink.
This also worked but the performance dropped significantly. Android and Apps started much slower. I had lags everytime I saved/changed something. I read that data2ext should boost the perfomance so I'm a bit confused. Why is my performance so bad? Is this because I symlinked or what? Is it possible to get much better performance with the real data2ext?
I use a Kingston 16GB class 4 SD card (benchmark on windows said 14MB/s read and 0.7ms seek) with ext2 (formated like recommended in data2ext thread).
You should only be using data2sd and the performance depends greatly on the speed of your SD card.

Why would you use data2ext and a2sd at the same time? It does not make sense...If you have a fast SD, data2ext is a good way...but it has to be genuinly fast, not just high class

I didn't say I use both at the same time. I use A2SD and moved /data/data to SD.
A really fast SD card is expensive so I think moving /data/data to SD is not an option for most people. There seems to be no cheap way for me at the moment.

8gb class 6 works fine for me.
I've read some SD card tests and these classes seem not to be riliable. For example my old 8gb class 2 is faster than my new 16gb class 4.
I'm using a 32gb class 2 and I noticed a significant improvement however my quadrant score barely changed

Do you know the exact name of your card?
have you tried this? i'm using 3072, cl6 transcend, darktremor data2sd (comes with his a2sd mod, still in beta but i find it more stable than --with all due respect-- TGF's version)
Just tried data2sd from A2SD. At first it seemed to delete my system apps (contacts, mms, calendar...). After a second reboot most of them were there again.
But the performance was still bad.
I run Mirage on an Sandisk SD Card with Supercharger V6. Runs well.
I stumbled upon a program SD Booster which can be seen here :
https://market.android.com/details?...wsMSwxLDIxMiwiZGUubWVocm1hbm4uc2Rib29zdGVyIl0.
Has anyone tinkered around with this app to see what setting might improve performance?
Tried it back when I was running CM7 nightlies from SD card, circa 253. Didn't experience any discernable boost. As I understand, supposed to hype card write speed; can't fathom how tis done. I'd vote "not worth it".
i need increase both of interal memory and ram
who help me about this?
thank to all
Hi. I see that your a new member so i'll help for now.
Look through these threads: Increase RAM
Internal Memory
even though the last one is in the wildfire s section, i reckon it'll work.
Note: We already have many threads on XDA regarding the above stated issue/question. A search would help lots. Like this one:This
Also, since you asked a question this thread goes in the Question and Answers section.
In case you have read about the SWAPping, i wanna warn u about a few things.:
•It may decrease your SD card life
•Some kernels misbehave due to swap
•Dont put in an extremely large amount to SWAP memory, give your mobile only as much as it can afford.
They have hardware limitations too.
•Class 4+ SD card recommended.
SWAP increases RAM.
However, to increase your internal memory, you can partition your SD card and install a script like DTA2SD or L2SD.
Please hit thanks if this was informative.
