Hi,
I have motorola defy red lens and lately I have a problem with battery drain on all roms.
I am using Quarx's JB 4.1.2, and battery drain appears only when my data is on (100 to 0 in around 8 hours if I dont use the phone at all), if my data is off, it can last for days...
I am using BM tweaks, seeder and memfree. I think thats when it began. I also tried Flashing SBF and have the same thing on stock, but on MS2Ginger my battery lasts throughout the day (100 to 50 in 16h with data always on) if I don't use my phone but if I just send one sms or check email for 5 minutes, it spends around 5% of the battery.
I am now back to Quarx's CM10 (from Nov. 28th, Later ones apeared to have batt drain for me even before this problem) same thing without and with BM stuff, I even reduced overclock from 1200 to 1000, and all of my vsel values now i am using 300-16, 600-30, 800-42, 1000-52, and before it was 300-30, 600-42, 900-50, 1200-64 (or something like that....)
Original battery monitor says it is the display spending 50% of the battery, and my brightness is on auto, I even reduced default values for brightness cause I don't like my screen bright.
is my battery bad or what? (all battery apps say the battery is healthy)
P.S. I use quarx's kernel.
What is android system and android os. They aren't drains battery.

I don't understand?

Have you checked that android os/system drains so much juice?

cm10 nightly (fixed kernel)
I have the same issue, I'm starting to think that my battery might be dying, it's been a year since I bought my phone, so I think its a logical thing to think that it's slowly fading away
I got a new battery, and it's all good now
Btw I got one for the defy plus, and it rocks, whole day, lots of usage, overclock to 1200 again, and still 60% left!!!

I'm on stock 2.3.4 rooted, and I just put my phone on the charger with 14 hours since last charge @ 56% battery. It was light to moderate use, will let you know tomorrow if it was a fluke. Sundays are light days, but Monday will tell the truth.

my battery conservation method is simple:
- Turn on wifi and leave it on
- Set the phone to GSM only.
This almost doubled my battery life using stock HTC gingerbread.

Why would turning on wifi improve battery life?
The idle time on Unity is very good. I'm somewhere around day 2-3/4and just now getting to 50%
However when you're using it the battery tends to die pretty quick.
Pyromod! its amazing, I get about two days battery life.
I never worry anymore, If i'm going out of the house around 5 PM with 20 percent battery life, I'm good for the rest of the night and morning.

Right now I'm using cm 7 and when its charged to 100 it stays in 100 for a long time than it drains pretty quick

That's how it is. The firmware interacts with the battery in a way that any % over 90% is considered a full charge, so sometimes this comes away with the phone sitting at 100% for a long time (up to like 2 hours for me if I don't use the phone much), then draining normally. It doesn't drain fast, it just drains fast compared to the battery sitting at 100%.

Not true. CM6 had a drain rate of 3%/h on idle with no connections and me popping it on once or twice an hour to get a text.
Cm7 was around the same. All stock clock with downclock with the screen off to around 500mhz.
Unity's idle rate is only about 1%/3-4 hours. It's insane.

No, I mean you clearly are going to drain fast when using a phone compared to idle.
And any ROM with a proper kernel can be undervolted / underclocked with apps to disable data in order to drain less battery in idle.

I can't tell if you're kidding or not, but the phones and ROMs I've seen all exhibit this behaviour. The OS will report the battery at 100% for a long time, as if the battery has more capacity than the OS knows about. A more accurate estimate would be to wait until you're at 99%, and then see how fast the meter drops. Better yet would be to use something like Current Widget or Battery Monitor Widget to record real-time current draw, then calculate how much energy has been consumed.
I wish there was a way to calibrate what "100%" actually means, but I don't think that is possible, since it is a hardware limitation.
im using gummynex rom, with the sgs-ns-ics kernel, and the battery drain suddenly became HORRIBLE.
i've used this combo before as well (kernel is on conservative/cfq), but never experienced this kind of drain. cant remember if it happened after updating or what.
1-2 hours of screen time, phone is DEAD. android os 50%+ battery usage.
left my phone unplugged overnight, and this morning when i woke up it was sitting at 40%, and it was 100% when i started sleeping. (6hr 30mins).
i used to get atleast 15hr, should i be changing the rom or the kernel? or downgrading the rom?
wifi = always on
3g/gps/autosync = off
good signal
Mix it up, try a different kernel... if that doesn't help, try a different rom.

Try draining your battery to 0% (until it shuts off by itself). Then, charge it (non-stop) to 100%.
I had similar problem flashed new ROM codename + matr1x kernel
And battery only last 10hrs.
I drained the battery then fully charge and used battery calibration app then drained again and full charge difference was amazing got 22hrs . I left my phone all night with wifi on when wake up 98% .
It might work for you too.

With ICS, you don't have to delete your NS' battery stats, as it resets automatically once it reaches full charge.
I am using the stock 4.0.3 rom with air kernel 3.1....the phone is working normally with 50+ hours of battery time since its unplugged and it still is sitting at 22 percent....
I will be going away soon to a location where i won't have access to any Mains , any advice on what rom offers the best in terms of battery life?

Questions go in the Q&A section
You should consider using either Walter's MS2Ginger rom or use Defy+ CM7 with walter's kernel. I see that if left alone the phone drains at approx 3% every 8 hours... so standby time increases. I get 2-3 days with moderate use. Of course if you're a heavy user (wifi, 3G, games etc) then it won't matter much.

Testing RRemix
I get a drain of 4-5% per hour on CM10 which isn't normal. According to BBS I don't see any excessive wakelocks, also battery stats in settings shows phone sleeping.
I tried a lot of different things to see if the drain reduces. Finally when i changed 3G to 2G the drain reduced.
I know 3G consumes more battery than 2G, but this drain was excessive and nothing like I saw on Stock or CM9 ROM's.
I'm using PA 1.98 and Siyah 4.0.1. I feel this is a very good combination in terms of battery life and performance.
On a full charge, I easily get around 20hrs on medium-heavy usage. I used Lux AB to control brightness and VC just for reference to check on deepsleep and cpu states. I also used battery widget reborn beta for its cool stats and auto flight mode control. Disabled all haptic feedback and vibration alerts cos I could just use a low-volume profile. Disabled hardware keys backlight(if i can find the home button in the dark, no prob finding the rest)
Edit: I use stock 1650mah battery
In extweaks, I set battery profile with the following settings:

Yes, I experience the same. 3G draines the battery and much more than on any other ROM I ever used.
My battery is no better or worse that on other roms, i loose about 15% of battery an hour with half an hour use or so. Any screenshots anyone? Or tips, did anything improve your battery??

A drain of 8-10% per hour if you actively use is fine. But while sleeping my usual drain on stock /CM9 is about 1-2% per hour.
I think due to all the hacks that are required currently to get CM10 working with ICS closed binaries we have this battery issue.IF it was
an app BBS would have shown, if my phone had deep sleep issues, cpu spy should have shown but I don't get anything in either of these.
CM10 on Galaxy S2
I'm running the latest CM10 nightly build (20120906) for my Galaxy S2.
The ROM works blazingly fast and I haven't had any bugs as of yet :victory:
The battery life is quite poor however, I get around 11 hours from full battery to nearly dead with moderate-light usage.
Today I used Google Navigate with GPS and 3G for around 15 minutes and it chewed through around 15% in just 15 minutes :crying:
I really hope they fix the battery life as its the only thing holding this ROM back.

That's pretty awesome. Care to share the build and if you did something else (other kernel, settings, anything)?
my phone has battery problem with CM10 too
battery dead 2x faster than CM9 Rom
specially when use Wifi or GPS
i never had my phone for more than 20 hour
I am using CM10 nightly 20121017. I have switched to CM10 nightly builds since two weeks. Before I was on stock 4.0.3 Greek Vodafone. Also I have tried a lot of custom ROMs.
In conclusion: with 3G on, WiFi keep alive, gmail, push exchange mail and all other notifications off (eg Facebook), all touch vibrations off, from 8am that I unplug the phone, it lasts max until 5pm. And this is Almost the same with all roms.
This is a smartphone and in order to operate as a smartphone of consumes a lot of energy! I can get a Nokia 6310 to have just a phone that lasts for a week...
My opinion is that someone must produce better batteries!

I hardly get a day of battery life. The most efficient battery saving technique which I realised was to put your phone into airplane mode when not in any use. I put my phone to airplane mode while I am asleep or I am attending classes. Amazing battery saving technique.
Other thing we can do is to use a cm10 version of rom with the memory leak issue fixed. If its not, you might even need to charge your phone even twice a day.
Disable 3G(use 2g only mode) when not using the web. 3g sucks a hell lot of battery.

IMO not good at all. How long since you flashed the rom/kernel?
I usually give it a few charging cycles before judging a rom/kernel to be good or bad
Obviously everything depends on your bightness levels, clock speed and undervolting.
What clock speed are you running at? I am on AOKP and using faux's kernel at 1.2GHz and battery is double yours. My brightness is quite low though
Also depends on what you're doing on it
Auto brightness.
TKT App, limiting it to 1150Mhz. UV by 25mv.
Basic browsing, facebook, twitter etc. Odd game for 5-10 mins.
Flashed the ROM & Kernel Yesterday, but its being acting like this for a while on previous ROMs tbh.
Consider using BetterBatteryStats: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15869868 to find what could be the cause.
Sent from my Nexus 7
yeah going to look into that.
For now, ive changed my kernel to Faux, and undervolted by 75mv. Also changed the limit to 1.1Ghz, using System tuner.
Going to charge to 100%, calibrate, and then install betterbatterystats to see what causes it. Noticed my unit seems a little warm, well, System tuner reporting it at about 45C, but then that could be because ive been using it for a good 10-15 mins installing and setting things up. (Also using a Gel case, guessing that wot help heat escaping!)
Well that's not too bad mines at 12 hrs and 37% but Im constantly on mine all day

Okay.... have an issue!
Have been using the Nexus 7 happily today, got it down to 6% and it switched off by itself. I don't mean powered down, it simply died.
1. Plugged in the mains lead and tried to boot up but it wouldn't.
2. Tried again 5mins later and this time it showed the white battery charging icon so I left it.
3. Came back 2 hours later and with it still charging I powered it back up, only after it had loaded the battery percentage has only increased to 8%
So, anyone care to help me out here...... has anyone else experienced this?
Just had another peek (it's now been another 30mins which means 2hrs 30mins on charge) and it's only increased by 1%.
So from 6% when it died to 2hrs 30mins later on charge it's only risen 3%
It's a stock 16GB device.
