[Q] best rom for battery life? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will be going away soon to a location where i won't have access to any Mains , any advice on what rom offers the best in terms of battery life?

Battery Life Comparison of several Roms
Defy ICS- In your face MOTO

the post from above link does not mention miui series.
in my opinion, wiui 2.5.27(the stable one) does a good job also.

Im on ics from quark and when not doing mutch with my phone it takes like 10 percent a day with stock cpu clock, wifi off.

Questions go in the Q&A section

You should consider using either Walter's MS2Ginger rom or use Defy+ CM7 with walter's kernel. I see that if left alone the phone drains at approx 3% every 8 hours... so standby time increases. I get 2-3 days with moderate use. Of course if you're a heavy user (wifi, 3G, games etc) then it won't matter much.

Tips or What is in your opinion the best rom for battery life for the HD2?

I have searched around the forum but cant find any recent discussions on what is the best HD2 rom, i recently used CoreDroidGBX and i find the battery life to be pretty good on that (Lasts me till end of day with light use (Light use being screen on about 2-3 hours out of that day) End of day being 7:00 Unplugged Low bat around 5-6:00) But i see about 300-500 mA useage when im actually doing anything on my phone(But just like 2-3mA when its off and i disable data)
So i keep experimenting with different roms and i am wondering what you guys have experienced the best battery life with on your HD2's.
Also i have to manually toggle off data, is there a app to auto do it, like automatically whenever the screen is turned off? I had my phone on battery nearly 24hours (Although i was on my laptop and only used it for like 20 mins of phone calls and a few texts) but still a real full day was awesome

Coredroidgbx? There is a Coredroid series by Sergio and a hyperdroidgbx by Pongster. Both get rave reviews for battery. I run hyperdroid and I get 18 hours of normal use no problem. If you consider watching YouTube and flash video all day normal there is no rom that will last doing that.
Do you prefer a sense or a non sense build? GB or Froyo? CM7 or ASOP?

I would say u need to check some nand built on your own as different phone respond differently to rom built. hyperdroidgbx and rafroid hd 4 are good option to move ahead and check
+1 agree.
Thoese are my favorites too.

tried using CoreDroidGBX before also..
smooth... but battery is almost the same as other builds..
In my opinion the best battery life was in unofficial nightly CM7 by charsingh (1-3mA in standby). But due to some issues i had to switch to Typhoon CM, battery drain is notably higher (6-10mA standby) but for me it is the best ROM ever.
I think that the functionality of the ROM is litle bit more important than small diferences in battery drain.
Motoman234's Moto-MyTouch4G v3.3
Nand build and the best I've tried so far. I can get 2 days with light use (text and moderate calls) and a full day with fairly heavy use ie: web for 1-3 hrs and 1-2 hrs of various games along with calls and texting. I call my family on the east coast frequently and a 2 1/2 hour call is not unusual, loose maybe 20 to 25percent on the call depending on my signal. Great rom, a chef that responds and helps, again nand build. totally functional for me no issues flashed 4 different phones to it so far! .
I as a rule, leave wifi on always and use bluetooth, location, and background data only as needed. Blue tooth and background data will suck the juice right out! Still, if I forget and leave those on I can still get a full 10 hr day out of a single charge, provided i dont spend hrs surfing.
+1 for Cyanogen Mod 7. I tried a lot of DesHD builds but CM7 has the longest battery life by far for me. One charge lasts me about two days with light use. With all DesHD builds i never made it past 24 hours. Usually even less than that.
Furthermore CM7 is just beautiful, especially with cyanbreadX
i'm on rafdroid 4.0 and unplugged this morning at 8 am and the time now is 5:30 and i'm at 60% with moderate use and wifi off.
i will say though that if i play bubble blast 2 that thing sucks the battery like nothing and i'm not sure why. it's amost 1% battery per min i can feel the phone get hot from use.
Running cm7 unoficcial right now and seem to be getting good batter life, but I have seen it actually use 700mA (srsly) when just charging ..
But can idle forever. But lost 15% in an hour during lunch...

I just put HyperDroidGBXv7 on my phone a couple days ago and its been great on battery life so far. I unplugged my phone about a 12hrs ago and its at 74%, averaging about 3-4ma on standby. No classes today, so I've only used it lightly today for some quick wifi browsing, short gaming (Angry Birds), and about 30 texts.
Ok been trying cm7 and for some reason when actually using my phone I seem to get a steady 535mA battery useage, any suggestions on fixing this?

Anybody know why my actually using my phone usage is so darn high? I just flashed to the stock rom, reinstalled magldr + Clockwork and im about to flash android again.
Doubt that will help but i need battery life..

^THANKS^^ battery life on Simply honey 3.8 was pretty good....
This thread is a great idea, but let's put some numbers down rather then, "I get really good battery life!"
CM7: I get about 13 - 15 hours with minimal use on edge network.
Minimal use for me is about 2 or 3 phone calls about 30 seconds to a minute each. Less then ten text messages, very little to no web surfing. Check weather, look at news headlines.
Well, i have only tried CM7 and MIUI, wich is CM7 based, and to be honest, battery life is the reason that i came back to Froyo...just terrible batery life...i can't be charging my phone every 5-6 hours. On Froyo im using Super DragonModz on Project V, and i havent charged my phone in two days, and still its @ 25%...average/min use. Until GB gets good battery life, i might not be using another GB rom as a daily driver...

anyways i get 10 hours on Revolution rom 2.0 with moderate use
moderate use -check xda couple times ,on h network always with background data ,some texting,3-4 30 second calls and ocing to 1.2ghz
Yea. I calibrated. I thought it was just a bad flash but after multiple flashes I had the same result.

Blitzkrieg 18 to 20hrs moderate use 3-4 hrs screen time one.
Pretty good if u ask me.
Screenie attached 30% batt left. Calibrated two days ago.
With every type of battery caliberation it takes a few cycles of charges for it to actually work. I use sgs tools and apply script and that deletes battery bin files. But doing that is not gonna take effect right away i hope u guys know that.
Im on cm7 and my battery usage is better then i expected. With me using either google music or Audio galaxy streaming for a 8 hour workshift and texting and websurfing during a lunchbreak and when that shift is done i still have about 20-to 30 % left sometimes as high as 40% But if im not streaming music and just doing normal things like playing cut the rope and web surfing and emailing, texing etc i can go on all day with out a charge. So maybe u guys have a bad battery???
Simply honey 3.8 was eating up 3-4% per hour just idling and much more when actually bring used. Back to Trigger.

simply honey 3.8 has really good battery life i get 19 hours moderate use with kb5 modem and OC'ed to 1.2 ghz
On Revolution Rom, I can get 16-17 hours of heavy use, which is flashing a new build almost every hour, going crazy on the battery life testing. But people have reported about 24 hours of battery with moderate use.
Asgard 3.0 and 3.1 Both are giving me 13-15 hours with moderate use gaming (my kid 45min-1 hour) internet use, tweeting, email and moderate to heavy phone use (20-40 calls per day) and 1 hour of tunein radio.
I got an average of 15 hours on Blitzkreig with 15-20 short (under 3 minute ) calls, 35-40 texts and an hour or so surfing.... plus a little gaming. I am at 5 hours on Asgard 3.1 and 78% battery.

I am running the Revolution Rom RC1 also and I'm getting about the same battery life. It's about the best that I have gotten on my phone, Bionix Final 2.1 aside. Great job, keep up the good work Ali.
Revolution ROM's battery life is pretty good.
Can't compare with others since I've just started flashing GB roms now (I had tried MIUI before but back then the battery sucked so much it doesnt even count)
thanks for starting this thread, it was just what i was looking for.
i used CM7 awhile ago and the battery life was pretty terrible so i switched back to froyo. so now i was looking around again for reports of battery life now after a couple months of waiting, and looks like its still pretty bad. i guess im still sticking with froyo.
but hey i still appreciate all the work the devs do to bring GB to the vibrant
with all the MINIMUM use or HEAVY use
can you guys post the screen on time with it to shows how heavy/ minimum you use....
I've been using Blitzkrieg for a week or so and at first it seemed really good but the last few days it has been draining fast for some reason. I also have had it reboot a couple of times while on the phone the last 2 days. I'm not sure if it's related....

Do any GB roms have froyo level battery yet?

would love to try one of the new MIUIs or other GB roms but poor battery life holding me back.

Check out the Simply Honey thread. I posted a pic of my use yesterday. over 31 hours with 10% left. Yes light use (calls, texts, XDA app, facebook, gmail, browser) but moderate will easily get you a full day.
Spare batteries are like $3 a piece....buy some! Amazon is my friends lol.
Not at all.
No. But you can get a Samsung genuine 1800mah battery from the Galaxy S2 4G Touch. Battery fits perfect and the bonus gets CM7 closer to the battery life of Froyo ROMS running stock batteries. $23.

Thanks very much, Alienz, it sounds fantastic, where one can buy it?
I have found just about on par battery life with the JVQ/JVR/JVS ROMS in the dev section. Im on simply stock JVS with PaulDiddy remix theme. Went to bed with 100% battery power and 9 hours passed I was at 89%, so it sleeps fine.
Only thing I was worried about was flahing the GB boot loaders. After hitting start in Odin and changing underwear all was fine.
on lidroid 2.9.1.

Just buy an extra battery lol
I'm running Biffmod and I get pretty much the same (honestly I think it's a bit better) as when I was running froyo. Easily make it through the day with light/moderate use. Also, I have a USB port in my car, so I plug it in whenever I'm driving around.

You must have a lot of background apps running or something. I get 16 - 17hrs easy on MIUI, and that's with moderate to heavy use. Lots of texts and checking up on my World War character and Words with Friends...

Best battery SGS ROM and kernel

I have to charge my SGS daily.
Reading some opinions at forum I noticed that average SGS lasts about 2 days.
In 6 hours sleep SGS eats 10% battery (previous phone with same battery, more stuff: max. 3%).
What kernel and ROM are you preffering?
Thanks.
MilkyRom - Best for battery
Hi,
I'm a fairly light user and I found MilkyRom v1.3 to have amazing battery life - I could get between 4 and 5 days use from one charge:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207466
It's also really fast and stable too Downside is that it's only JVR
I've just moved to ZuBy's JVT ROM and that seems pretty good too - I reckon I'll get at least 3 days from a single charge:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360372
Enjoy!
unles the creator of some particular mod have not broke anything there will be no change in battery life betwen mods
only thing that could impact battery usage is user

Just switch off WiFi, 3G, GPS, synchronizing, direct push, etc. and finally set your display brightness to 10%!
is there the FC bug with Semaphore kernel also?

I use obsession XXJVT (wich is almost fully stock, only difference +16 lockscreens) chainfire kernel and I get full 48 hours of intensive usage. can anyone please confirm no FC with custom kernels?

I call sh*t on this. 10-15 hours of youtubing, display time of 15hours? That is with gaming for 2-3 hours?
Impossible.
Had the best battery life with some Darky ROMS so far, but I am always wondering about the stats some people post here. I was far away from these runtimes the whole time I own this device.
Maybe because I keep 3G, WiFi, Sync etc. on most of the time... But that's what I bought a smartphone for.
If I would disable everything that makes my Phone a smartphone I could also have bought a Nokia...

It all depends on the kernel anecd the options that have been applied. Too many variables have to be considered and their corelations as well. That said no FC should take place if everything is applied correctly according to creator's suggestions.

MIUI mint berry has a very good battery life. On samsung firmwares I had to recharge the battery 2 times a day on my normal usage.
I currently use galaxydroid 3.3, with semaphore 1.9 kernal. This give fantastic battery life, drops only around 5-6% over night, I have wifi, gps and 3g all switched on all the time and the 3.3 rom gives loads of nice little tweaks, which are gone from 4.0

MIUI 2.4.2 battery drainage and optimal setup

I'm using MIUI 2.4.2 for about one month and i must say that is a very good rom. The only thing that makes me crazy and i cannot find a solution is battery drainage.
My setup
406 baseband, also tried 366
New MIUI 2.4.20 update for DS5!!! (also tried Streak MIUI 2.4.20 English)
240dpi MIUI LED_Notifications_ON (from ternorex Longhorn CM/MIUI Combo Beta ROM in order to have led notifications)
Test 3 Phoenix kernel (without hPa's patch)
WIfi on
Data off
With this setup had no lag, very good sound quality, no wifi issues. I'm not tried voip (skype. etc). The battery has autonomy for about 35 hours which is very low. I changed to 2G network only and now i have about 50-55 hours which is also low compared to other roms.
I love this rom but the battery drainage makes me crazy, so please share your setup and a possible solution (if any).
Do you have many apps installed/run in background?
I get 300h standby on MIUI 2.4.20 when I was using it (in airplane mode/wifi on).
I would expect about 150h standby with the cell on and wifi on.
So if i understand right it's not ok for the miui rom to last at lest 50-55 hours with moderate use. it has to last longer.
But please give us some hint's how are you using it, what applications are you using, phone calls, messaging? In standby with out using it it's not ok to last 50 hours but if your using it battery life seam very good, where you live there is good gsm signal that eats battery like hell, but if you are using it and want more then buy a 4800 mugen battery.

I have only the basic setup. I haven't install other apps. 300h in airplane mode tells me that probably the drainage comes from gsm network.

I only use it for phone calls at the momment, 5-10 min a day. 50h most of them in standby. I have full signal reception.
Also,i used 2 different batteries, both of them new, so it is not a battery issue.
I'm using miui 2.4.20 with test kernel4, and i have just like you around 50 hours of battery life, but i use messeging about 10-15 a day, around 30-45 minutes phone talk a day, 30 minutes of web with wifi, and other stuff like changing themes.
