[Q] advice needed.apps keep crashing - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

not sure what happened but recently all my apps started acting up and nothing works.the only things i can kinda get working are
alarm app
facebook
keepsafe
chrome
these will work for a short amount of time but eventually all crash.and its happens a ton
i have a few other apps like
gbc ad
flashlight
google sky
snes droid
youtube
forum app
these do not work at all.these all do the same thing.all free base apps.so they launch.you see a add(thats normal.)than what is supposed to happen is app does whatever task it was designed for(reading forums.play gameboy games etc) but what happens is it keeps looping and starting back to launch..than add...than crash reboots self and starts again........
phone specs
razr maxx 912
ics 4.0.4
rooted 3.0.8 kernal
stock rom
now i have been looking into it and i think my best and may be only option is a factory restore?i know that jb just came out and i seen a few things over the internet about splicing ics root with jb where i go back to stock .211 and than do stuff and than ill have rooted jb...which is what id like...but im not sure if that will fix the app issue.so what do yall recomend
factory restore than straight to jb?
or try to keep root than splice jb so i can stay rooted on jb but like i said not sure if that would fix my app issue
upgrading to jb isnt a nessicity at this time it just would be nice to do.i plan on upgrading at some point.but i much rather have my phone working correctly

Bump

Sorry bud but you in the wrong section.
Razr M = XT907 or XT905
Is this section, M is not Maxx more like Mini
You have a Maxx which is like the Razr (No Maxx)
Razr and Razr Maxx = XT910 or XT912
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1360
If urs is an Razr HD or Razr HD Maxx
You have to go here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1861
Hope this helps sorry wasn't able to help you here but I think you will get more responses over the other correct section.

ah!makes more sense now thanks man ill remember that for next time
seeing how the thread is already here i thought i would update it just in case someone comes along and has similar issues
i flashed phone back to stock.factory reset.reformat sd....so totally wipe clean and start over.and just redid root and still on ics and everything is working great now.didnt take but an hour.should have done that in the first place

No problem man.
It sounded similar and familiar but as i don't own a XT910 i was of no use.
But it seems like ur phone is similar to ours in some ways.
Just another heads up,
If you running ICS and then Safetrap and instal JB onto Slot 1.
Depending on the ROM it maybe very unstable also. I don't know why but maybe has to do with Kernel or Core files.
So what ever ROM you try to share with the Stock Rom try to keep them in the same Core Land aka ICS with ICS and JB with JB.
Just a thought someone that is more informed about this matter, feel free to elaborate =)
But for now I stick to same OS version on all my Slots in SafeStrap.

You sure it's a razr m? I don't believe that Rom has been released for our device
Sent from my XT907 using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
Yeah make sure that is a razr M, We only have CM10 ICS-Stock JB-Stock ICS-AU-Stock and Eclipse
but if it is they have FastBoot ICS and JB.
That you can flash back to.
Make sure if you have Verizon Phone to flash the 2 listed here:
JB Stock for Verizon
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017200
ICS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1937007
If you have a Australian Phone by Telstra:
ICS This has not been tested on a Verizon Phone and you will have to do some research on this one.
http://205.134.238.11/~gaming22/Downloads/FullXML-Nov.30-17.48.09.zip
This is from his ad?
Looks like a Jelly Bean Leak to me
But i am not sure since i never played with the Leaks.
98.12.4.XT907.Verizon.en.US is the FastBoot of Jelly Bean.
Double check in the other thread if there is special way to get onto stock JB from Leak JB.
There shouldn't be a reason why not, besides maybe moving/editing an XML around.
Well i went with unrooted M for slightly better price. I will root and leave stock.

upgrading to Razr M - have some questions

hi all - still contemplating on getting this (~$250 on E-bay). coming from a Samsung Droid Charge where there is only one developer (and he totally rocks - made a kick-ass ROM called tweaked).
hows the development here?
any custom kernels?
custom boot animations?
I see there a few ROMs - which one is most active?
One big advantage from the Charge is that it is practically unbrickable. meaning that no matter bad we screw it up, we can always flash it back to stock with Odin (which also resets the flashing counter). is that the case with this phone?
I'm primarily focused on battery life, as I'm sure ICS and JB will be great on this device. When I do get this phone, I will most likely root it right off the bat and slap on a custom ROM.
thanks!

The rom support on this phone is not huge at the moment but it is a quite new device im sure it will grow over time. When you root this device currently there is no way of resetting it that i know of to show that it has never been rooted unfortunately.
well, I just ordered the Razr M today from e-bay ($250). They're including a 32GB sdcard as well.
the first thing I would like to do is perform a factory reset/data wipe and then root it. how do I perform a factory reset?
You can factory reset either in settings privacy factory reset or in recovery. The phone will most likely be reset before shipping to you.

Personally, I haven't found a need to put a custom ROM on this device. I'm rooted with a 64GB SD-card and froze all bloatware with Titanium Backup. For my purposes it runs great. I hope you have the same success.

thanks - I'll probably stick with the stock ROM at first, and if the BDH ROM can add more battery life (judging from the thread, it looks like it should), then I'll consider installing that.
also, I was thinking about transferring my sdcard from my Charge to this phone and re-installing the app data (not apps themselves, as I'll just re-download them from the market) - does anyone think that this could be a problem given that the backup data was from a different device (running GB)?
also, I did a quick search, but could not find an immediate answer - how can I tell if the phone I am getting is the Developer Edition or Retail?
thanks!
Where do u live? If your getting the droid razr m it's probably not the developer edition the australian razr is unlocked (equivalent to the dev razr m with a few differences.

Then its most likely not the Developer edition unless specified.

Can I update to 4.2.2?

Howdy,
So I'm considering updating my trusty XT907 from 4.1.2 up to the new update 4.2.2.
I"m running stock ROM unlocked with Motochopper, using Safestrap 3.12. Removed a mass of stuff, been running it steamlined and smooth. I'd like to update though from what I've read. I've always ran ROMs for years now, but at this point in my busy schedule I can't keep up with the development, and I"m outta the loop. The last ROM I ran on the razr m before stock was the Energy ROM.
My question is, now with bootloader unlocked am I safe to update to 4.2.2 and keep root? Innocent question, hopefully.
Thank you -

With an unlocked bootloader, you can flash TWRP and install CM10.1 from http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29

Stock has only gone as far as 4.1.2. If you want 4.2.2, you need to run AOSP.

Many thanks for the tips! However, this last one made me a little more confused - are you saying to be rooted with 4.2.2 I need to run AOSP roms?
Apologies but I just upgraded to the razr M after running my beloved Droid Incredible with CM10 forever -- absolutely loving it but entirely confused by the rooting options.
My ideal is to have the 4.2.2 update, and to still be unlocked and rooted, with no additional rom's, and with whichever recovery is needed to achieve this. Then I'll start having a look at dhacker's and the Orion looks good too. But I just want the stock 4.2.2 with root access first - if possible.
Many thanks for the clarity --

if you want to get to 4.2.2, you'll need root access and an unlocked bootloader. stock 4.2.2 is AOSP (it's available in the development section).
the latest update (from what I have read) is NOT 4.2.2 update - I believe is to lock the bootloader. so folks are recommending to NOT accept the update.
I would advise to root, unlock, install TWRP. From there, you can choose your flavor of ROM (keeping in mind that 4.2.2 has not been officially released for the M).

Sorry, I confused things a little, and JCO's post wasn't very clear either.
If want you to run 4.2.2, you need to run an aftermarket ROM. The M has only been updated to 4.1.2. So, you won't find a stock based ROM that's 4.2.2. JCO refers to CM10.1 as being "stock", but it's not. It's the most basic AOSP ROM. As a comparison, the M's stock ROM is Motoblur based.

well, CM10.1 is the closest to stock (appearance-wise) of all the after market 4.2.2 ROMs available (to my understanding, there is no themeing on it). but I think there a few tweaks in it (hence AOSP).

Yeah, CM10.1 is pretty bone stock. I just wanted to make sure there was no confusion with the term "stock." I read our posts, and it would've made a lot of people crawl into the corner, crying.
Excellent, many thanks! That was confusing me also - seeing an update available for my xt097 but reading that 4.2.2 is not available for the razor m - I was wondering what the update was.
I'll be flashing to TWRP tonight - cheers again -hopefully no issues flashing over safestrap. That was neat tho - being able to pick between ROMs to run.
If your already unlocked you never really loose root ever
And the latest verzion update breaks the root method and won't let you unlock if your still locked it doest relock you I think that's impossible

What to do...what to do...

I've got an M with unlocked BL, and rooted. I only like the root so I can use Adfree, I don't get into the deeper stuff. I paid someone $50 to flash the phone to PagePlus, and I don't want to have to do that again after a RSD.
I've got the KK nag screen bugging me twice a day everyday to do it's thing. From what I've read, this is not possible till I RSD.
I really wanted a XT1080M, but no one can flash them to PP yet.
Sooooo..... do I stick with JB/root/adfree and live with the nag, or do I RSD to 412 and let the OTA do it's thing? I see on the RSD files page, there's 442 on there... is it possible to RSD straight to 442 or do I have to go 412 then OTA to 442?
I realize there's no root, but I do have the unlocked BL, so there's hope for the future I guess... but I really want/need the bigger phone and like moto hardware. So I guess its' fix the M up, or go razr Maxx HD.
what do you guys think?
If you are unlocked, you can flash in RSD whatever you want. And you can root in KK too, of course. Just flash SuperSU package in custom recivery

For Pageplus users don't upgrade to KitKat
Do not update to KitKat it will not work with Pageplus.
In order to get pageplus to work on the Razr M/Maxx HD the radios on the phones are down versioned to ICS so that the changes to NV_ONLY to stick. This hack will not work with the phone running KitKat. As of yet I have not seen any work around for this problem.
Since you are rooted you can stop the OTA nag screen by freezing the Verizon updater app.
Check out this threat for all things about flashing Razr M to pageplus

Wow.. am I glad I asked before pulling the trigger! That's what I love about this community. Thank you laspero, I had no idea the update would render my device useless. Any recommendations for what app to freeze with or what that app is called?
I use 'App Quarantine' and froze 'Updater'
