Just got my N10, and have been trying unsuccessfully to set up the device to sync with my office's exchange server. I am using the same settings that already work with my Galaxy SIII, but I keep getting an error message that it could not connect to the server. Anyone have any ideas?

I had the same problem ... but a bit different ... I can sync all except my inbox... a paid app called Touchdown by nitrodesk works but I'm not happy about having to pay $20 to do what I've been able to do on my phone for over 2 years... This is old tech and should be baseline functionality for any tablet.
Let me know if anyone gives you the real solution
David
Sorry guys, But I don't see how this is Google's fault?
Exchange Mail is Exchange mail.
I'd be leaning on your work's IT staff to figure out why it's not working correctly via Active Sync.
One thing to check, depending on what/how you have yours set up.
My Exchange limits me to 10 mobile devices. Now I know that doesn't sound like much...but once you start testing ROMs, etc., that gets filled up quick.
So check and see if you have a limit on devices, and if so...clear out any old or unneeded devices.
My Mail also asks for Administrator permission. Before it'll sync, I have to drop down a notification and allow it administrator access.
(I can remotely wipe a device if I log into my account via our WebMail interface)
My guess is either too many devices or your naming schema/paths you're using on the tablet.
I had the same sort of problem with my Apple iTurd mini. S3, Nexus 10 and Desire all worked fine, but the iTurd did not. Logged into OWA with my laptop, went into options and then mobile devices and I removed ALL devices from there. Now my S3, N10, desire and iTurd all work.
More than likely an issue atteh exchange end. Some are also set up to only allow x number of deivces.

I'm syncing with a hosted Exchange 2010 server (outlook.com). I had to change the server address from m.outlook.com to the actual pod*****.outlook.com address, but after that it's working perfectly with my DX on GB.
We have Exchange 2003. Tried everything.
I lose synch whenever my ROM changes.
The first time, I deleted my corp account, and recreated it...that worked.
The second time, I re-entered just my password and the last field had changed the name, not sure why...but fixed that and it resynched after both of those.
It stopped working for me too, but I haven't tried inputting the actual outlook exchange address. We always used m.mycompanyname.com.
Apparently Motorola knows about the problem. I just did a simple google search on my pop up about not being able to provision for my device. So much for "enhanced activesync" lol:
http://motorola-global-en-usa.custh...id-pro-after-mr2-update-(copy-of-answer-67174)
Still no corporate email or calendar sync. I've nuked phone clean and it still won't update.
Another e/ee here received the OTA update from Verizon and it ruined her corp sync too. So it has nothing to do with root.
I think there is some issue with pulling the certificate.

I think you are right about the issue having to do with pulling a certificate.
In my case, first OTA install failed, then Verizon folks had me flash back to 2.2, wiping my existing settings.
After the rollback, I was able to install the OTA to get to 2.3 successfully, but now I am not able to setup corporate sync on the phone. All correct settings gets me an error message saying "Login to the server failed, please try again."
One thing I notice is that on the 2.2 Corporate Sync settings, it asks for:
"domain/username" in one textbox
where on the 2.3 settings page, the username and domain are entered on separate textboxes.
Maybe that has nothing to do with anything, but it was something I noticed.
I'll update if I find anything about this issue.
****update
Call was disconnected with VZ, Moto, and I'm too mad/tired to go through the hassle again. Boo.
Droid X - Activesync issues after GB Update
So this is really strange, and I'm truly frustrated. The Mobile device policy in our Exchange 2007 environment will not allow the Corporate Mail application on our DXs provision with the server... unless we check the Allow Simple Passwords option in the policy itself. Then the device is provisioned properly and email, calendar and contacts sync.
This is not optimal as we have a strict Policy for passwords and using a simple password violates that.
Regards,
Edge
I feel your pain Edge... same for me.. doesn't allow for simple passwords. So now I am receiving the provisioning error. I called Verizon lastnight... they forwarded me to motorola and they said for me to send a document stating the settings my company needs to change.. what a joke. I am furious. I don't want third party software to download email... Although my HTC Eris sucked because of the speed.. the company HTC supported my email. Every time there was an upgrade it continued to work.
still busted. Tried several things with my company's outside tech support.
Exchange 2003. Factory reset of phone (twice). Even pulled the SD card after the second factory reset. I manually added certificates. Tried Touchdown. turned SSL on, turned off.
tried all kinds of domain settings. Tried stuff on server side. Still nothing.
Now I'm getting error messages with Gmail.
SUCCESS!
Our certificate expires in August so the IT guy went ahead and updated it. When turning on account, I left off the domain name and checked SSL. Worked immediately after that. Good luck.
FWIW, i just upgraded to p3droid's rooted GB (performed a full data reset in the process). Setting up my corporate sync was painless (worked first try) and it works flawlessly. Our IT guy is sharp and knows how to configure and maintain our Exchange server with all the latest updates and such. If anyone is having issues with Corporate Sync, I'll bet a dollar that it's a problem with your Exchange Server and not GB.

Exchange support on any android platform is usually from a mis-maintained Exchange server, but it just seems that motorola is extra messed up with their support. I know how my Exchange server is set up and I still have a hard time getting full functionality out of my DX and my corporate email account. At my work I depend on calender support because it's the main means of communication between our IT staff as to who is going to in the office at what point. As of right now, I'm using my work phone to keep up with work which is... Normal? I dunno, but I just know I'll have to float until I can get my hands on a decent root and ROM for the OTA update. I've tried using P3droid's patched version and out of the six times I've tried it, I've either gotten into a boot loop or I've lost all data connectivity- weird.

I had lots of weirdness with GB too when I upgraded (twice) using P3droid's update. I SBFed back to .340 and then did a Factory Data Reset just prior to booting into Clockworkmod's Recovery to do the upgrade. Haven't had one lick of problems since. Give that a try.
Hello all. I have done a quick search but didn't find any relevant threads, so apologies if it has already been discussed.
I bought my Xoom 5 weeks ago and configured it for 3 emails - Gmail, Outlook Exchange server and BT Internet. The first 2 are working absolutely fine but I am having constant problems with the last. When I first set up the account, the device set it up as 'IMAP' but that stopped working after a few days - BT said they don't support it and it should be setup as 'POP3'. That I did but soon I started getting error messages saying there were problems connecting to the server. This has been happening intermittently - even on the same day. I have deleted the account and set it up again - on occasions working fine but on other days it says there was an error with user name or password. After talking with support at Motorola today, I tried another client - 'K-9', but that also is having the same problem. I should add that while all this is happening on the Xoom, the email is easily accessible on my PC and even my Android phone - HTC Desire HD.
Can some one please help? I am getting very frustrated.
Regards.

maybe its the same kind of issue i got. Only way i found to fix it was to go back to 3.0.1, then setup email account and update to 3.1
It's nothing to do with your xoom.
Bt are known to have ridiculous email servers. Clarify that the settings you have from them are correct.
As we all well know IMAP and POP3 are extremely different things?

I have seen on the CM9 thread that there are a few users who are having trouble with the stock apps syncing with Exchange.
I had the same issue after installing alpha 2 a few days ago. A little research let me to this article: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22975
Basically, there are a number of Exchange configurations that the stock ICS clients simply are not compatible with right now. It may be as simple as the security requirements that your employer is trying to enforce, or in my case, the fact that my employer is running Exchange 2010sp1. Apparently sp2 is compatible.
In any case, this is an upstream Google issue, and is not specific to CM9. They are working on it.
I am using Moxier Mail in the interim.
And, yeah, I know I should have posted this in the thread, but I don't have enough posts yet.

Glad to hear. Hope it gets fixed soon. My college's notification website pushes all notifications to our school email which uses exchange. Sadly I have to log in to my email to check for these rather then get them automatically on my phone.

Can't you use POP or IMAP, so you don't have to log into the website?
No. MS Exchange Server is a completely different and much more secure protocol than POP or IMAP, and entities that use it do so precisely because they do not want their sensitive info going out on POP or IMAP. And, as Exchange offers true push, and several other features that go beyond the scope of just email, it has other advantages too.
And, while there usually is a website component available (Outlook Web Access) that's not what we are talking about here.

what issues specifically are you having trouble syncing.
All. None of mystock android apps work with exchange.
My work uses Exhange 2010sp1 and there is a security requirement that android 4.0.x exchange services do not support. The issue is not present in sp2. I'm not an expert. This is what I have found out through my research, and have been told. My employer has no plans to implement sp2. Now why android 2.3 would work, and then they would leave out that compatibility in 4.0 is beyond me. And why the android team would still be working on it 4 months later without resolution is also beyond me.

well, I wouldn't say exchange is any more or less secure (probably less) than IMAP (POP is dead) over SSL/TLS. Companies do it so that they can enable group policy on the data, you know, like being able to REMOTELY WIPE YOUR PHONE (without your appoval). really depends on the company. I work on the systems team for the production servers at our company, but I'm not part of the IT group facing our employees. We use Exchange. They know the guys in my group are not idiots, so they enable IMAP for our accounts at a special requrest from us. IMO, IMAP is far better than trying to screw around with Exchange/Outlook.
Though I do have a Windows VM that I use to accept meeting invites. *shakes fist*
I just gave up on exchange for now. It was eating through my battery and it would forget my credentials.
I am just having all of my exchange emails forward to my gmail for now.
Yes, in terms of the tranfer of data over ssl, there is little or no difference between exchange and imap, though I would bet that a lot of users don't have their imap account set up with ssl. For a lot of exchange users, ssl is required.
And yes, my employer wants to be able to remotely wipe my phone. I want them to be able to as well. They know, as do I, that some of the information on my phone is personal/private/confidential/sensitive/secure, so to them, and to me, the advantage of being able to remotely wipe my phone makes Exchange MUCH more secure than IMAP.
I guess it's all a matter of needs and perspective.

hello friends,
maybe someone of you is able to help, or at least enlighten me about the cause of this:
since i use ICS on my note (about for 2 weeks, starting with stunner) i have REALLY BIG problems with one of my exchange accounts, the one which is running on a hosted exchange 2007 (second account with my corporate exchange 2010 is fine)! so until today i hoped that the "official ICS" for the note won't show this behavior, but now with a total clean install of the today released LPY and therefore OFFICIAL SAMSUNG ICS rom, the problem persists!
description:
95 out of 100 trys to connect to my exchange account fails with a message telling me that there is a security error (if needed i can provide some screenshots) telling me that either my username and/or password is incorrect! this makes it almost impossible even to simply add the account. and, on the rare occasions (which SOMETIMES can be triggered through a connection change between wifi and 3g) when the phone is able to connect (and sync), it stops after a few minutes again with the same error.
i re-added the account numerous times, tried everything which came through my mind (change password, enabled and disabled sec features) and trust me, i know what i'm doing here. i configure exchange accounts since almost 10 years from now!
clues:
there are a few tickets existing on http://code.google.com/p/android regarding this issue, but with different "flavours":
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16992
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=19366
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=25315
to sum it up:
google developers are recognizing the problem (it seems to exist since android 3+ to some extent) but are unable to provide a solution until now. it seems to be a problem with an EAS policy refresh, which fails and therefore closes (or does not even open) the connection! a guy suggested to disable these policy refresh in the EX2007 config, but this would only be possible if you are the admin of this server (and i doubt that it would make sense, security-wise, too)!
another theory says this mess is due to implementation errors in the connection layer, which directly affects wifi and 3g connection behavior...
i guess that this problem would now get's more imminent, as this security error wasn't occurring at gingerbread. and now more and more people with smartphones will migrate to ICS!
what do you think?
does anybody else experience this? or am i one of the few unlucky bastards?
regards,
markus
so, is exchange 2007 working for everyone?
this would be important to know for me, because in this case i would have
to blame my exchange provider for wrong EAS settings!
can a few people with an exchange 2007 account confirm that their sync work flawlessly? anyone please?

This seems to be the case on all TW based roms, no matter if GB or ICS at least for me. It syncs fine with Hotmail service but not with my company's 2003 server so there has to be some incompatibility there. When disabling all syncs and re-enabling them it started syncing. Just had to wait for about 30 minutes to get all info synced.
E: On AOSP based (CM9, AOKP) everything works as it should right from the beginning without the extra hassle.
I'm working properly in Galaxy Note, from KKA to LPY, with Exchange 2007 SP3.
Syncing is correct in my case.
Samsungs version of ICS (or Gingerbread) doesn't communicate with Lotus Notes traveler active sync. Cyanogen 9 (ICS) is working out of the box. In Gingerbread the Traveler App is working but in Samsungs version of ICS the widgets dont work.
after fiddling around this WE i think there would be no other solution as reverting back to GB (which would suck, and therefore is no real option), or to change to a hoster with exchange 2010!
every client i tried shows the same behavior, if i'm able to establish a connection it won't last long till the security error reappears! this renders my account almost useless...
i will update this post if something changes!
I've found several threads, but none of which seem to help. I can't get my exchange account to "push" my email. I've turned on every option known to man to allow this to happen, but it just isn't happening without me having to refresh. Push works with my other two non-exchange accounts and it worked fine with my old HTC One M7. Any ideas?
I am having the same issues (exchange server not pushing email, have to manually refresh) plus phone is very warm and battery drain since the email is not getting pushed and I think the email app is trying to sync with the exchange servers and draining the battery. But email works (exchange push) with my previous phone galaxy s4 update to 4.4.4 with no problems

So, can anyone help us?
I get this problem a lot with gmail, yahoo, and hotmail. Sometime it works, sometimes it doesn't. The only good news is that the new Gmail app (coming soon) will be able to handle multiple accounts from Yahoo, Hotmail, and Exchange. So hopefully that will be a better app than Samsung's mail.
PS> If you set it to retrieve every X minutes it will work, but it will waste more battery than push.
Ok, it's been a couple of weeks, so I thought I would ask again. Does anyone have a suggested solution to this? Am I the only one having problems with email not being "pushed" to my phone via ActiveSync? In doing a google search I see that this has historically been an issue, but there is no solution?

Been using the new Gmail 5.0 app, it handles multiple accounts nicely. It doesn't use push, but checks every 15 mins. Overall I like it more than the Samsung email app, so I am using Gmail now. I deleted all the accounts from the Samsung app. I've also noticed an improvement in battery life (subjective).
I have the same issue
Hi all, it's been a LONG time since I've been over here. I recently got the Note 4 as a Christmas present from the wifey, she knows what I like. Probably helps that I've had every Note so it's a safe guess on her part. Yesterday I received the push update from AT&T which took it up to 4.4.4. Well, since that my push email works when it wants to. It will eventually push it but it could be anywhere between 15 minutes and 2 hours. This is unacceptable for me as I own a custom networking company that has jobs in all timezones and I need to get my emails immediately.
I have done all of the regular "troubleshooting" steps including wiping my phone and starting from scratch with nothing installed but the stock email. I even changed the SIM. All of the push/sync settings are enabled......ALL of them.
I would LOVE to use my Touchdown app which I basically keep on my phone now for the server search feature but don't use it for notifications because it doesn't show the email content on my Gear S. The only app I know of that shows that email content on the Gear S is the stock email app (PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG).
Has anybody found a resolution to this? I haven't rooted my phone since my Note 2 but before that I'd been hacking them since these threads at XDA were WinMo only. I'll gladly put a new ROM on if I can get my email working and pushed to my Gear S again. Does anybody have any recommendations that may save me some time poking around?
Thanks for listening to my long winded story. I've been told I write too much. Happy holidays!
use maildroid app.
I have no problems with my MS Exchange account pushing the new emails. I remember reading in the MS Exchange set up instructions that if you set it up as a POP rather than an Exchange account the calendar & task functions will be disabled. Knowing that an Exchange account can be set up as one or as a POP email account I would make certain you have it set up as an Exchange account and not a POP account. Not sure if that has anything to do with the push feature but I thought it would be worth mentioning.
My Exchange email through the Samsung email app works fine and push email works. It's worked on every Samsung phone I've had on every rom I've tried so I guess I'm of no help.

Sprint Note 4/Exchange 2010
I have also been seeing inconsistent results with exchange push email as to the timing of received messages. I was also seeing the battery drain issues associated with exchange push. Although I noticed the battery drain was worse while using cellular data as opposed to wifi. I have only been using the samsung email app with stock NK2, with Hybrid X, and BobCat roms. Same results on all roms. I have repeatedly gone thru the steps of deleting phone thru webmail, delete account on phone after force stop of exchange and email apps and resetup, added account thru email app instead of thru accounts. If I saw it in a forum I tried it. I do primarily use wifi whenever possible. I did confirm it was only exchange push causing my issues as I could set to 15 minutes or manaual and not see the battery drains.
i also had a Nexus 6 along with other devices prior to this phone and push worked just fine.
So yesterday I took the plunge and loaded MailWise. My phone is now using push and is working great. As it has on other phones/devices I have had. Not seeing huge battery drain even on cellular data. Yes, it is possible to see data icon stop running constantly on cellular data after all with this phone. 6 hours off charger today and still at 90%. Prior I would have been pushing 60% range. Receiving email notifications on phone either prior to my desktop outlook or at the same time. Which is normal. Specifically tested by sending messages to my exchange account using gmail and yahoo while having desktop outlook open and running.
I did notice thru webmail that my device now shows up as Android instead of SAMSUNGN910P
Hope this can help others
