[Q] Help!!! - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried installing he paranoid android rom, i have no idea what happened, now i just get, unfortunately, setup wizard has stopped, error.

Did you flash gapps too? If so, which package? Also, It would be helpful to know which version of PA you flashed, as 2.54 and the 2.99 betas are going to need different gapps.

I tried to install this first, pa_gapps-full-4.2-20121127.zip, when i started my nexus 7 nothing showed up, nothing changed. So then i download pa_grouper-2.99-beta9.zip and gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip. Then i got the problem, unfortunately, startup wizard has stopped. By the way my nexus 7 runs android jellybean 4.2.1.

CM 6.1 Stable

Hey, question. Every single CM from 6.0 I have downloaded I have had issues with. I love the rom, but every time I get the same issue. When I install the rom all worked fine. I wipe all data, clear cache, and have to reinstall of course everything, my issue is that my phone will randomly freeze. Sometimes I get an error message saying the process process.android has failed, other times it just freezes. Does anybody have any ideas?
I loved CM 6.1 best Rom I've had yet. But after a week it started acting up and having problematic auto shutdowns like 8 times a day. I then searched for another stock Rom and tried skyraider vanilla, I hate it. It's basically skinned sense. That's it. I enjoy sense but it eats battery. My favorite roms so far are the desire Hd Rom and
CM but without the shutdowns is be perfect.

only people
So this is the only other person I have run into with this problem. Everybody else I have talked to over other forums or IRC has never heard of these issues at all.
The only time I've ever had those shut down issues is when I start screwing with themes or when I start screwing with kernels or overclocking. I'm not sure what you've got going on there though
Well...
Well I have done some of that however I have reverted to "stock" several times. I have Hboot .92 installed also, i saw something online. The latest radio is also installed. I guess has anybody else seen any issues like this?
Try formatting the system in addition to wiping. CM does not format anything when you flash it. In CWM its under mount sd section.

This happened to me today, I am 99% sure it was the kernel I had installed though. I put back invisiblek's #18 and had no problems before or after.
okay I can mess around with that and see what happens then.

This morning, I d/l the cyanogen 6.1 stable from ROM Manager, I then rebooted my phone into hboot then into recovery console. I then did a wipe of dalvik and battery stats. I then did the wipe data and then the clear partition cache, I then flashed the Cyanogen 6.1 Inc rom... then went fine... I loaded up into Cyanogen I then did a reboot and that's when my phone would not leave the HTC Incredible screen when rebooting! any ideas that can help me? I really like the Cyanogen ROM
Help!!! please!

You need to be a little more specific but do this.
1. Click on the Cyanogen link in my signature and download it.
2. Download google apps
3. Reboot into recovery
4. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
5. Wipe Cache Partition
6. Wipe Dalvik Cache
7. Select install zip from SD card and choose the cyanogen ROM, let it install
8. Select install zip from SD card again and choose the google apps.
9. Reboot your phone and sign into your google account and let everything sync
This is the best way to do it. Not through ROM Manager.
If this doesn't work then I have absolutely no idea. That is the 100% correct way to flash a ROM.

Yeah I mentioned it earlier in this thread. For some reason #21 and #22 do not like cyanogen.
I'm running #21 on my phone and I haven't had any issues yet.
Yeah IDK either... I had to revert now it's running like a champ! love the Inexus theme!
ok an update, I have everything working. I an using cm6.1, latest radio (on cm site), kernel 27, hoot .92, and the very latest clockwork that just came out. I know those last two should not matter, just letting you know. As of right now my phone is not freezing and everything works fine, even faster than before. When I first turned it on the phone did freezer and after that yet took a long time for 3g to start working. On reinstall I did a total revert to stock then did a factory reset and cleared all caches and everything on the phone there is to clear. It has been afew hours. I will update this if there are any more problems

CM7 RC2 Problem - possibly gapps corruption?

Hey yall I'm having a problem with my Aria. I formatted my micro sd and wiped the phone to start with a clean slate. I downloaded CM7 RC2 from the CM website and i also downloaded gapps from there as well. but when i installed RC2 and gapps it would start up normally then when i would try to use the setup wizard it would freeze once i touched the android guy and would go into a boot loop. i recorded a video to help explain what im talking about. could it possibly be a corrupted version of gapps? cause i tried installing just rc2 and it worked fine....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZWiYGHh8LQ
Was it plugged in while in recovery?
yes and no. i didnt have it plugged in the first time around but the second time i did. and i did a factory reset, cleared the cache and the dalvik cache
Try re downloading the rom and gapps file. Make sure phone is unplugged and wipe data and caches again and then flash again. Ghats what I would do.

[Q] Can't Install GAPPS on my Nexus 7

Hi Everyone,
Sorry my first ever post is a question, but I have looked around a lot and can't find an answer for my problem.
I have a 16gb nexus 7 that I have rooted and unlocked the bootloader. I have successfully flashed both CM10 and AOKP roms, but each time flashing the GAPPS afterwards results in absolutely nothing. The ROMs work fine, and I can still access the Play store, but none of the GAPPS show up in my Applications folder. I have tried this multiple times with multiple GAPPS zips.
I flashed ClockworkMod Recovery, but interestingly I can only get into it by rebooting via CM10 or AOKP reboot to recovery options, or through ROM Manager's reboot option. If I manually enter fastboot then try to go to recovery it hangs on the Google loading page.
I am okay with the CWM issue, but I would really like to be able to flash the GAPPS zips! I change ROMs a lot (I have a Galaxy Nexus, which I have never had any issues with), so manually installing the google apps each time would be a pain.
Any help would be appreciated!
Hello,
Are you flashing this right after flashing the rom or are you booting into the rom then restarting and flashing the gapps?
You should be doing this...
Be sure to back up your current ROM!
Update your radio to the above recommended version if you have not already done so.
Wipe data/factory reset.
Format /system (mounts and storage->format /system).
Install the zip from SD card.
Install the gapps zip from SD card.
ONLY IF YOU ARE ON NON-TOUCH CWM RECOVERY: Install darkside-wipe-cache-only.zip (which fixes bootloop due to bad /cache format)
ONLY IF YOU ARE ON TOUCH CWM RECOVERY: Format /cache (mounts and storage->format /cache)
Reboot. Let it sit for a few minutes after the first boot. Be patient.\
good luck!!
Yes I flash the gapps immediately after flashing the rom without actually booting in to the rom first.
I have been doing a full wipe, but I did not re-format so I will try that later when I have time.
Also, never heard of the darkside wipe cache zip so that is probably my issue with the bootloop!
As for the radio, I could be totally wrong, but does the nexus 7 even have a radio file..? I thought that was just for phones or tablets that can connect to network carriers.
Thanks for the help!

hey i tried everything you said and still no gapps... I tried to do a titanium backup of the stock rom then use that to install the gapps on the aokp rom but that didnt work either. I did notice though that when I did not install the gapps package the play store wasnt installed, but if i install the gapps zip, the play store is there...just none of the other apps.
Just search apps by Google inc on play if you have the store

It would nice to not need to do that every time as I frequently flash new roms but oh well I will do that for now. Maybe it will change with a new update
I have the same issue. Using CWM I've installed two different roms and two different gapps versions (using the recommended procedure) both times my Nexus 7 boots up & the only Google app installed is Play Store.
I'm having a related problem with GAPPS but it's much more severe.
I have installed the Kaos rom on a Nexus 7 (and that install would ONLY succeed if one de-selected the GAPPS option during the Kaos installer process, otherwise you'd be thrown into infinite boot animation land) and everything was looking perfect.
Then i attempted to install GAPPS from a zip that was linked in a Nexus 7 thread. the specific package i used was...
gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip
... and ever since that point the tablet cannot boot into the Android environment. It will attempt to, then hang for longer than it should at the Google logo screen (tiny lock at the bottom) and when that fails it will boot into the recovery environment.
I'm running TeamWin Recovery 2.2.1.4 because ClockworkMod constantly failed to work properly for me (never could manually launch recovery from the bootloader, but TWRP will launch manually just fine)
The TeamWin Recovery can see everything and even give me a terminal, and fastboot still sees the device just fine at the bootloader... so there's a lot i could try, if i only knew where to start.
The REAL annoying thing, however, is that i performed a backup just prior to attempting the GAPPS install (because of all the trouble this gives people) and now TWRP cannot successfully restore that backup. it can see both of the backups that i have made (stock and Kaos initial successful boot) but whenever i attempt to swipe to the side to start the restore, the whole recovery environment just restarts on me.
help? suggestions?
well, i see that i wasn't running the latest TWRP for the Nexus 7. i just used fastboot to flash to ver 2.3.2.1 and that appeared much happier.
it was able to see the two recovery images made by the earlier version and it's now restoring...
... and now we're rebooting...
... and KAOS appears to be proper booting...
... and back in business to the way it was before i tried the GAPPS install!
(this single run-on post -- as opposed to a series of small update posts -- brought to you by the faster processor and nice system specs of the Nexus 7 which kept on ticking along as i was typing here in my browser!)
---------- Post added at 06:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:03 AM ----------
and now i have successfully installed GAPPS using a 4.1.2 package... gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
it's amazing how things can go sideways so quickly if you're simply using the wrong version of one thing or another. and it's also amazing how quickly these threads become outdated given the very fast pace that Android keeps evolving and how fast the dev community pops up with new packages, roms, and mods of other roms.
speaking of which, the KAOS fork of CyanogenMod is excellent! i already love the Apex launcher more than the stock Trebuchet (little interface tweaks like a quick menu popup whenever you long press a home screen item, for example) and i think this is a wonderful rom package.
great work, and a wonderful installer... just remember to NOT include GAPPS during the initial rom install process! uncheck that box!
UPDATE: gapps install incomplete / market installs failing
So it seems that while my Nexus 7 now shows the Play Store (which i still find myself calling the Market because Play Store is a colossally dumb name) i don't see most other Google apps.
Background sync and all that is working, but maps and youtube and such are not there. I've read that these are removed from newer versions of the GAPPS pacakges because it takes up less space and said apps are in the Market anyway.
however, when i search for them and pull them up in the Google Market they fail to install. i do not know why this would be. it doesn't matter a WHOLE lot to me, because i don't use GMail, i run Brutal Maps instead of stock Google Maps, and NextVid is far better than the stock, bloated YouTube player.
still, it made me curious.
so, it appears that i am not the first person to experience the "Unknown error code during application install" error, naturally. the (very simple) fix is in this thread.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992241

[Q] Installed ParanoidAndroid: Device loops after "Google" screen

Heyho,
having some problems with installing the Paranoid Android rom. So im on veryion 4.2.2 and the bootloader is unlocked. I also installed the recovery ClockworkMod (clockworkmod.com).
Next I've done a "wipe data/factory reset".
Then I installed PA (pa_mako-3.00-15FEB2013-223348.zip(goo.im/devs/paranoidandroid/roms/mako))
and gapps: goo.im/devs/paranoidandroid/roms/gapps
Finally I wiped the cache and dalvik and restarted the device. There were also no errors during installation, everything was fine.
Now the problem is that the device loops during boot after the "Google" screen. I also took a log: dl.dropbox.com/u/97517326/log.txt
As far as I can see the device loops and tries something again and again. Help, how to install PA would be awesome. If it does not work, I can still live with the default
EDIT: Found a page which describes the same steps which I have been gone: androidegis.com/how-to/install-paranoidandroid-rom-for-nexus-4-features-hybrid-modes

Had the same idea, because I found the gapps version somewhere else, so I tried it again with the 209 version but still no success. But I have an other idea because I found this exception: pastebin.com/wnC0rFv7 It says that it could not find the provider settings. Maybe this is because I do not have a sim card atm, because it did not arrive until now. Could this be the solution?

I am having the same problem, but I have a sim card. It just loops on the paranoid android 3+ page forever.
installing should be straight forward. factory reset, rom pa-gapps (not goo's), wipe cache + dalvik, done. first boot takes a while,
i havent tried booting it without simcard, but i dont think that could make a difference. can you make dead sure you get the right files?

[Q] PAC-man on Nexus 4 stuck in bootloop! What do I do?

Hi. My Nexus 4 got stuck in a bootloop while attempting to flash the PAC-man ROM and I have no idea what to do!
I am a total noob at this, so I'll just go through the details. I cleaned Dalvik and Cache and then flashed the files: pac_mako-22.2.0-rc1(Downloaded from official PAC-ROM site) and gappsinverted-jb-20130308-signed(From rootzwiki). After flashing these two, I tried starting the phone. The minigame turned up and then it moved on to the 'PAC is LOADING' screen. It stayed like that for 15 minutes... The only way I knew the phone hadn't hung was because there was the constant movement of the loading bar. So I got into TWRP recovery again and flashed Paranoid Android back so the device would be usable again.
I really want to try PAC-man and would be grateful to anyone who can help me out...

You have to also wipe DATA when you flash a new ROM. Use the factory reset option.
also, your gapps are out of date. you got stuck at rebuilding the dalvik, which is kinda normal for android 4.3. all you have to do, should have to do, is force reboot once or twice until the dalvik gets rebuilt, then itll boot.
