[Q] Bluetooth Capability? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Nook Color with an N2A SD card installed. I received a Braven 570 Bluetooh speaker for Christmas. B&N Tech Support saus that the Nook Color does not support Bluetooth applications. Do I have other alternatives?

The n2a SD card is based on cm7 so it does support Bluetooth, although limited range. The BN firmware does not support Bluetooth. Have you tried pairing the speaker in cm7? The pairing code is either 0000 or 1234.

You stated you have a n2a SD card. Insert it into the SD card slot. It should boot up with the operating system. Then go to settings-bluetooth-connect. You may need to set nook color discoverable to devices. Once Nook color see the device, pair and enter the code.

Did That!

I have already done that, the Braven 570 shows as paired, but when I click on it I get an error message that says "unfortunately setup is stopping", nothing more?

If you have an Android phone see if you can pair the speaker and play music through it. You can also try to pair it with a BT capable laptop to see if speaker works.

The Braven 570 pairs with my cell phone wonderfully, it's the Nook Color that I'm looking to connect to.

We know the speaker works. The Braven 570 supports two BT profiles-HFP (hands free profile) and A2DP. I don't know if the OS on N2A SD card supports these profiles. Call the N2A folks and ask them.

I'm running Cm7 and have a similar bluetooth speaker. It works fine, but it has to be less than 3 feet away. I usually keep it next to the Nook, or on top of the screen if I'm taking a shower (works nice and loud!)
Most bluetooth devices pair and connect beautifully, but make sure you keep it within range or the music gets choppy/cuts out.

You can download all this stuff for free. Just read the forums.
Also b&n says there is no Bluetooth because they never enabled it and there is no internal antenna for it. Nevertheless, it is enabled in all released versions of CyanogenMod for nook color from version 7 onward. The latest is 10.1. You'll find BT has a limited range due to the lack of antenna...
And again, the full software is completely free of charge and available online. Some companies have simply taken the free software, slapped their name on it, and are reselling it. Some of these companies do so with an offer of support. You can generally find great support online for free as well.

hardware limitations of Snapvue

just to confirm my belief, the following hardware components are not wired to the Qualcomm 7200 CPU, therefore no amount of hacking/cooking of rom's will ever make them accessible from within Snapvue:
Wifi
SD Card Reader
webcam
hard drive
Is this correct? Am I missing any other components?
yes but can be re enabled. it just needs time.
OK- don't bite my head of - I greatly value your input and given the other responses in the forum know that you have / had access to the actual unit.
The question was literally about hard-wired... a physical connection between the WM part of the unit and the SD / WiFi etc. components... given your answer, you say that they ARE in fact hardwired but the software/drivers to access those components isn't there yet?
I'm on the verge of getting a device like this but if it cannot be enabled (SD card mostly) because of the physical limitation of the device I will not proceed with the 'getting the device'...
Thanks again for the clarification - your input is very much appreciated.
Isn't wifi built in the Qualcomm chip?

hi citivolus... have you ever had a HPC?
anyway, SD *is* wired to the MSM7200, the SPL can access it
i think GPS is possibly fine too
as for the wifi and hdd, i've yet to check those.
Hi cmonex, yes it's me from HPC:Factor, hence my intense interest in the WM6 side of the Shift! Sounds like you've already confirmed that we can access the SD card from within WM6. Would love to hear if you can access Wifi!
The WiFi card shows up as an SDIO interface Marvell sd8688 wireless LAN SDIO adapter under Vista. That should mean it's possible to access it under WinMo.

lol, hey there
well just to be clear, all i can say is the SPL can access it, so hopefully only the driver needs to be found... as far as i know beta roms had it. i'm sure we can see that soon.
as for the wifi, yes it is an SDIO wifi adapter built in, that's all we know so far but that sounds promising.

[Q] Attach an External Keyboard to NOOKcolor

Has anybody made this work already?
I want to use NOOKcolor as a writing device as well as a reading device. Among other things, that means attaching a keyboard.
The NOOKcolor doesn't have an internal Bluetooth radio, so it looks like the mini-usb port is the last resort. I see two options (correct me if I'm wrong here):
Attach a Bluetooth adapter to the mini-usb port via adapter, get the bluetooth keyboard drivers to work
Attach a regular usb keyboard to the mini-usb port via adapter, get the regular keyboard drivers to work.
Pokey9000 says it looks like NOOKcolor has hardware components that support USB On-The-Go protocol (enabling a slave device like NOOKcolor to act a host device for a peripheral like a keyboard):
pokey9000 said:
In my digging through datasheets, it seems both the CPU and the PMIC chips used in the Nook Color support USB OTG, but it depends on how B&N wired them up. Time will tell if it actually works.

Has anybody had any luck verifying NOOKcolor's hardware setup supports USB On-The-Go mode? Any success getting a keyboard hooked up and working?
I'm still holding out for the Ti OMAP 3621 chipset to have the BT enabled in the future, though I'll be using it for a BT GPS dongle and wireless headset. Devs will be working on it soon, after a tear down is done on a development unit.
I don't have URL posting status yet, but here is a text list of what I've been able to find:
GigaOm-dot-com posted a good compilation article on attaching a keyboard to your Android phone, including links to hacking your own dongle. Search:
"How To Add a USB Keyboard to an Android Phone"
langtoninfo-dot-com has a usb to mini-usb dongle. I haven't verified it'll work. Search:
"OTG Cable Adapter Mini USB A-plug - USB A-Socket".
I would like to somehow connect a gamepad to the nookcolor.

Cyanogen develops highly-praised custom ROMs on a variety of android devices. There's a donation thread, hoping to convince their team to develop for the NookColor. There's hope that someone can unlock bluetooth capabilities on the NookColor, and when people need something like that done, they often think of a cyanogen ROM as being the answer.

[Q] Audio via USB?

Since the Nook Simple Touch does not have an audio jack, it's a deal breaker for me.
However, might there be some way to route audio via usb -> 1/8th TRS? If so, I would definitely jump on the device and buy it as soon as I get some money to spend on new toys.
Bluetooth maybe?
Well since the Nook Color hardware is so close to the N2E, since they have working bluetooth, I bet it won't be too long until we see the N2E with it as well.

Well I believe the SoC includes Bluetooth hardware. Since it's there why not have that ability on the Nook as well. Enabling Bluetooth could solve general lack of audio issues for some people.
I thought I saw it somewhere that it's concluded Nook STR does NOT have function BT?
This week at Walmart I saw a USB / Bluetooth adapter. I believe you would need a micro-USB adapter to connect it to the Nook. But as I was looking at it, I was thinking of this thread and wondering if you could make the physical connections work, would the nook end up with Bluetooth capability.
Any thoughts on if this would work or not ?
not bleutooth ...
the thread seems to be going into bleutooth mode...
Was wondering if connectiing a headphone with a microusb adapter would help get the audio?
like say this micro usb to headphones adapter
www[dot]amazon[dot]com/Samsung-Headset-Adapter-Strive-Flight/dp/B003W057FS/ref=pd_cp_cps_1
same as catzilla this would really help me decide on the nook touch
People seem to get it working with the nook colour, so it may be for the touch as well.
First step is to get USB host mode
check this thread,

But this only works on CM7. Still waiting for something that may run on regular nook android. And it is quite scary that you may fry your usb on th enook in case you forget to switch it back to client mode before connecting to your computer.

Someone with a little patience could probably take the required code from the latest CM 2.6.29 kernel sources and apply it to the Nook kernel sources.
Also I seem to recall that the "usb power issue" was solved some time ago?
USB host mode is nice and all that, but are there actually any libs in Android that can push audio trough USB?
I remember dreaming of being able to connect my X10 to an external DAC, but that was before I invested in a couple of squeezeboxes
Well, I hope we can find someone with time and knowledge to do so.
And regarding the usb host, that is the information I found from saombra's post.
I don't know regarding library, but I know that in this post those guys learned how to get audio from a dock using a samsung smartphone usb port. So there is a way. Maybe the only way.

I got mine today. I ordered it over a week ago. Weird because I didn't get my shipping information until last night, and when I tracked it, it was already out for delivery.
My Measy Air Mouse R11 is screwed though I think. It keeps sliding to the left hand side. I even tried on my PC and it does the same thing. I've tried to resync it and screw with it, but it keeps moving. Very hard to use a mouse that doesn't stay still. The MK808 is fun. I just got it tonight. I haven't had the time to get really crazy with it. Seems to run ok and would be far more enjoyable with a good input device.
Ordered mine today (only $60), if it really works as reviews say, it's quite a bargain

I fixed my Measy Air Mouse R11.
To reset the Gyros, you lay it flat and press and hold LEFT ARROW + G for a few seconds... making sure it is flat. Now it works great.
I'm having some weird issues with some misbehaving apps. Root explorer started freaking out. And now my FPse won't use OpenGL for the life of me. I'm interested in trying the CM10 build for it but the operation requirements are bland. Supposedly it requires CWM recovery, which is supplied but doesn't give specifics how or what order or process to get it done.
I have to say that it is a fun unit to work with and chews through FPse roms. I'm surprised how well it runs for a chinese chipset.
Flashing is a bit of a chore and instructions aren't very clear, so I'll post them here:
With the unit OFF:
Insert a paper clip into the reset hole and press it in and HOLD IT down.
Awkwardly insert the MicroUSB-PC cable into the OTG. This will power the unit and it should boot into Flash mode given you've held the paperclip down properly.
Trying to install eGalax Touch Screen linux driver
I'm trying to install the eGalax Touch Screen driver for Linux 2.6 that came with my liliput 7 inch touch screen. The touch screen is for use in my car. Using the mk802 II or ug808 to replace my audio system. I just need to get the driver installed. The driver installation script is looking for the locations "usr/local" and "usr/bin", but the only "usr" directory I can find is in "system/usr"... I'm not sure if I should use that location and create the local and bin directories there or not. But when I created the usr/local and usr/bin at the same level as system (which is in the "mnt" directory which is also at the same level as "root" directory (btw, I cannot find a "home" directory), the install seemed to work fine using Better Terminal Pro android app with the bash shell. However, when I restarted the device, the "usr" directory that I create was gone, so the driver install was wiped apparently, and the usb HDMI touch screen still does not work... I can post the bash script if that helps. This is the last thing I need to get this to work, then I can have a full Android ICS system in my car. Thanks in advance.
FYI The HDMI works great to view and use a usb mouse or the RII keyboard. they work great. It's just the touch screen input does not work. It used to when I first turned on the device with the touch screen on, but the x-y coordinates were reversed, hence attempting to install the driver. I have ICS compiled from source and may attempt to add the drivers into it and create an img to them load on the mk802 II, but I fear that I'll loose any proprietary hardware drivers that came with the mk802 II.
I also wanted to make a img backup using ROM Manager, but ClockworkMod is not available for the MK802 II. ANy leads on this would help. Been researching and testing this for a month now.

they shipped on the 29th (tracking never worked).
And it arrived on the 6th. So quicker than expected.

It now seems to play any avi / mkv / mp4 i've given it (usually on a usb stick or micro SD). It happily plays avi's over the network (using ES file explorer).
Its definitely better than the out of sync UG802 which wasn't quite right and the power lead came out too easily.
I use the custom stock video app (seems to come with most of the RockChip devices) and MX player (it looks a lot nicer)

It is a mini PC that has HDMI output. Your TV must have a vacant HDMI input so you can plug the mini PC into it. My TV supports 1080p. And so I can set the output resolution on the mini PC to 1080p. But it also could be set to 720p as well. These don't come with any display so you have to plug it in to your TV or a monitor that supports HDMI. The audio is pushed through the HDMI as well. To control it you can use a USB mouse and/or USB keyboard. Your cheap wireless mouse will work but the USB ports do not have power to them so I've had to use a powered USB hub to make my wireless keyboard work further than a foot away from the USB dongle for the keyboard. The hub also allows you to plug in other devices like a USB camera. But the ones that work are somewhat limited , be aware. Does that help you understand it?

probably you will need the kernel sources. also, you need root access. that error (directories that get lost after reboot) might be due to yo need to remount the /system partition in rw mode (by default is ro) and perhaps you will neet to do some symlinks on /bin to /system/xbin.
other thing you..must get in considwration is that android is different from linux.. and that you might need to compile the kernel module, such thiing im not sure that is posible from within the device itself...
or.. i just might be way off track, in which case jyst dismiss my answer

can anyone comment on this non-support of XBMC for Rockchip? and if not Rockchip, which stick-PC gets it right?
one comment also that I would like more info on is that both iMITO units underperform compared to MK808
"Lack of XBMC support for HD hardware acceleration is a major issue that Rockchip needs to address if they want to keep selling SoC chips to the Stick PC mfgrs. Stick PC makers need 2 take action on this as well and if Rockchip won't play ball, they need to consider alternative SoC. We need more processing power anyway to get close to current smart-phone level and play the latest 3D games."

Fire tv stick and favi bluetooth keyboard with touchpad mouse=awesome

Just got my favi bluetooth keyboard and I used side loaded settings app to pair. It works great it has backlights and has android hot keys. i.e. home, back, and menu. The mouse pad works good for those apps that you can't navigate with remote very good. I highly recommend this i got mine refurbished for 25$ on amazon. Model # FE02BT-BL and here is link if interested.

I have an off brand that looks identical to that one. I could never get mine to pair because it needed a pairing code that I could never get to work. Did it require you to type in a code on the keyboard?

Yes it did and i typed it in and hit enter and it worked immediately.
Can't believe I haven't thought of this, I have on of those Favi keyboards (and the Favi Android stick to go with it).
Thanks.
Was looking for an easy set up with touch pad built in.
Right now ive been using the amazon fire tv remote app and it works great with xbmc. Types like a keyboard and works on wifi so i dont have to aim my phone at the tv.
Will set a reminder incase this model goes on sale
Can it control multiple sticks?

Fans on..lights on. Tv on...etc etc
If i could get motorized window shades....id control them too.

Yeah that sounds cool to control all that from one remote.

It was mentioned on another thread the favi was picked up at gamestops.
Ive called local gamestops and they all say the same that they dont carry the keyboard in store and can order it for $40??
Those that picked them up locally were lucky

Looks like there are few other members have the same problem. It only works on the stick, not box
Thanks
You can get this one at Amazon (FAVI FE02RF-BL Mini 2.4GHz Wireless PC / Tablet Keyboard Designed for SmartStick): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0090BTY8Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
Same form factor but comes with a bluetooth dongle. No need to pair. I have two.

I tried with USB as well but it did not work. I talked to Favi support and they offered to exchange mine for a new FAVI FE02RF-BL. That's nice
fe02btbl not pairing with fire stick
I bought fav after seeing this thread..but im not able to see it on settings screen.
It seems to work fine with my s3.
You need to launch the settings.apk app you side loaded the go to the bluetooth section and activate it with your remote to search for devices to pair.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Yes. Bluetooth is enabled in the new settings app but still doesnt detect the favi kb
