Hi,
I saw one thread where someone mentioned that franco's kernel needs to be installed over stock kernel.
However, franco's thread doesn't mention that. So, can I simply install franco's kernel over the CM10.1 kernel?
Any steps or links would be appreciated.
Thanks
Yes you can install it over the cm10.1 kernel.
Yes, in Franco's OP, he states that his kernel is compatible with CM. You just need to flash it and it replaces the CM kernel. If you update CM to a new nightly, you'll need to flash the Franco kernel again.

Using it right now with CM10.1. No issues so far. Give it a go, it's easy!
Just remember to reflash your current rom first if you ever decide to change kernel from Franco's. Else you'll get have problems booting.

It is also written and confirmed in the OP of franco kernel lol Don`t you read at least the OP?

I always think it's disrespectful when people don't try and find answers before asking. People need to start thinking before they ask.
Pretty much use search. This is why I never make people use toolkits. People don't think. They don't learn. They just click a button.

How exactly is that supposed to be a troll? It's simply raising awareness that toolkits lead to no good. By telling people that toolkits aren't any good and they actually invest 10-25 minutes sitting down and reading a stickied post and following it step-by-step is well-worth it. It's even more important than a lecture in class that people will most likely fall asleep through or not pay attention especially if you plan on tinkering your phone with custom ROMs / kernels / recoveries.
It's a basic fundamental of flashing. Using a toolkit gets you from Point A to B. But what if you need to go back because you forgot something on the way? You ask a question. But if you were at Point A and read all the directions and did it step-by-step as you go to Point B. Well, you won't be so confused on how you got there! Guess it's true that technology is outsmarting us
All of the biggest technological inventions created by man - the airplane, the automobile, the computer - says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness. ~Mark Kennedy

Technology is great. It really is. But what's the point in doing something when you don't know the background behind it and how exactly it's done? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to install basic ADB environment and type some commands that you won't even have to remember. They're on the internet. There's a reason why someone posted that guide on how to do it. It's imperative and is stickied for a reason.
I'm a troll with 1200+ thanks. I must be doing a good job trolling the Q&A forums? You're a new member, Welcome to XDA. But if I am a troll, then you don't know the other side of it because there are a lot worse people than myself. Just use the search feature before asking things. Especially if it's in the FAQ of a OP post. as it does say,
2. This kernel works on Y or X rom?
A: This is one of the worse questions you can ask on my threads. This is a Nexus, it works on every rom you can possibly imagine.

Read.... lucky that this isn't the Galaxy Nexus forum or something. You might accidently flash a ROM thats for the VZW version when you have a GSM version then wonder what happened to your phone. Reading is imperative.

Some of us (noob and non-noob) do a few things that make XDA not as enjoyable for all of us.
1 - Please do NOT make MULTIPLE threads on the same topic (5 topics on page 1 are by the same person, 4 of which are all related to the same topic). Wouldn't ONE thread with everything be nicer for the OP and ALL of XDA?
2 - Edit your posts - if you forgot to say something or you need to word it better, just edit your initial post, no need to make more clutter.
3 - Be respectful... as much as you can tolerate.
4 - Try and help if you can.
5 - Rather than go back and forth in a thread (arguing/talking), PM the person. Hint, WE do NOT care.
6 - Developer's ROM threads are for THAT purpose, developing. It is NOT to be compared to another rom, and nobody cares if you are about to flash it.
7 - Post in the correct section! This is not hard... questions go in the Q&A. Apps/Themes go there... ONLY developers should post new threads in the development section. General is a catch all for everything else, related to the Vibrant.
8 - Spell Etiquette correctly (I'm flashing Gingerbread on my Nexus, doing this while backing up.... my excuse )
Also, if you feel a thread like this IS the issue.... you may need to look in the mirror.
may want to edit title, it's spelled etiquette...
just friendly heads up before the flaming starts lol
psst...! i think you mean "etiquette".
you might wanna add "please take your disagreements outside of the thread or just agree to disagree".
i dunno about you, but i'm getting sick of seeing arguments when reading threads in the dev section. ~_~
Is this topic meant for that person that rides x's?

Can you possibly tell me their title or link?
Here is another one. Comments in a rom are supposed to be for that rom only. Ie. Bugs fixes, performance, etc. You should NOT compare roms.. Ex. " boomers" rom is much faster than this... " comments like this are pointless and do nothing for the development of the rom the thread is about.

I'm sorry?
I posted the first thread "vibrant comes with 2.2!" because i'd made a thread a day or two ago asking if Vibrants now come with 2.2
Everyone on the thread said NO.
I wanted to let people know that it does, because i just got a refurb with 2.2.
the second was a question kind-of.
I was wondering why people were hating on stock ROMS because i had great experiences with it. (not 2.1) Everyone on this forum says "STAY AWAY FROM STOCK, ITS LAGGY!!!!" I wanted to oppose that because i had no problems what-so-ever with that.
I don't see how their related just because they both have something to do with 2.2 though.
I really dont see what ya'lls problem w/xrider is, his posts may have been similar but they are still different.
This is an open forum and with so many new people coming and going it will always be like this, theres no way to control it,and in trying to do so will only create undue stress
The only way it can be some what "controled" is to make it a closed forum :-(
And by editing does it bring in new viewers not likely.
Imho i dislike cyber arguing but some times it apperently takes a lil cyber flogging to set some straight or get rid of the bashers
This is in no way a negitive post towards the OP nor anyone else

+1 Agree totally. Singling out some person just creates a feud and that is rarely productive. The real issue is for people to try and remember that when writing in the thread, sarcasm, double entendres, and other other verbal expressions rarely make sense in written form. Plus, the macho adolescent comments do not go over well either.
My best advice and rule that always works is this :
Try to make your comments so if your parents or some one you respect was reading they would understand what you are saying and the intent.
Follow that rule and you will never have problems (of course unless you are a sociopath-)
I think somebody should post all the roms and new updates on one thread that way it would make it easier for noobs to get the things they need and that would prevent all these how to root topics

Throwing a ****load of roms (that are required to change their title already when updated) in one thread is gonna lead to alot of headaches unless you break down specifically the requirements of each one. lmao wow by far one of the best ideas I have seen here in the forums.
not that i don't entirely agree with some of the sentiments of the more senior members, but i was a complete noob w/ my 1st smartphone not too long ago so I can see how someone coming into this now after all of the DL09/EB01/EB16 releases can be overwhelmed...
so here's a link to a thread on android central with exactly what you are looking for
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ks-roms-themes-kernels-updated-3-17-11-a.html
... a LOT friendlier with a handful of senior members that seem to be on always to walk noobs through
you won't get as many comments that, although may be true and one should take note of, doesn't contribute at all to what you asked.
Again, everyone is entitled to their opinions on a forum, so I'm not making any attacks toward anyone, but I feel like you know when your comment doesn't help the OP and only helps you feel better about walking into a post that annoys you... and maybe consider that there are people of all different ages and lives that may not allow for hours upon hours of catch up reading

While I agree that if such a form existed... at the end of the day it most really be useless.
People will still have the same questions about this and that rom, and term, and version of phone.. etc... and if you combine ALL those answers into one form, well I would maybe make it too the third or fourth page before I give up and move on. Like a lot of forums now, some are a thousand pages.
I'm sure many people will agree the next scenario, which I find myself in a fair bit. You just soft soft bricked your phone, or something new is released... 20 min later you're sitting down with 5 or 6 browser windows open, each one has 20 tabs, and you have 30 new bookmarks made just case there something you might need later from one those pages.
lol... i tell you guys, its awful messy sometimes.. Especially when a friend gives me a phone he bricked and I've never used the phone before.

Wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to unlock OEM for the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G model G988U1 (z3q) and flash a custom ROM to it. I'm aware that certain models don't allow this and I'm hesitant to test it out from the posts that I've seen describing how to do it. I saw the same thing for my model of the Note 9 and soon after found out that it's not possible for my model of it. If anyone can confirm whether or not I can and provide a link to a thread that includes the sources to what I need or links directly to the things I need it'd be much appreciated.

SFR 1.2, still the king after all this time. Until official GB or 1.3 drops, I am staying with it. Need a phone with all of its functions working reliably, none of which current GB leaks provide. CM7 holds a lot of promise but until devs get everything working I will not use it as my daily driver.

I see you are using the XDA app. You would need to switch to Browser view and search there. Or you can scroll down the General and Q&A list since it has been asked at least 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Only you can decide what ROM is best for you. You will find people that love SRF 1.2 and people who had problems with it. The same goes for any ROM because every phone is different. You won't find an answer here. You will need to go to Development and read the threads under each ROM and make your own decision. A lot of developers left XDA for various reasons, some just upgraded their phone so there is not a lot of development going on for EC05 and GB is still just a leak with no source for ROM, only kernel. That leaves only a few ROMs left and everyone wil tell you the one they are using is the best. I went to Gingerbread leaks right in the beginning and never looked back.
I'd like know this also.
I personally dont like theme of SRF1.2
and right now, themes that I like doesnt work well with SRF1.2.
I am wondering if there is stock CM7 like super stable rom for froyo?
Currently, I am tired of instable GB roms. That made me use phone less.
Is there froyo custom rom with good themes (or stockish theme)?

I used to browse the General and Q&A threads to find my own answers to start rooting long before I registered and could post at all. Later I registered myself, and used my gained knowledge to answer questions for other people in these threads.
But now, all one can find is the same repeated questions from lazy users that won't even put the slightest effort in. And none are so irritating as the "Best Rom?" threads and half of them are "for a friends phone."
Oh well, I think I'm done with the General and Q&A threads. The spirit of rooting has run dry here.

This is the main problem. Having easy root methods is all fine and good if you actually research what you are doing. There's a tool on this forum called "search"... 90% of people's questions can be answered by using this tool.
Sorry for the off topic post.. ICS, blah blah blah

Yeah and I think this whole idea of telling everyone to get together and make a single ROM is completely retarded, in all honesty.
Part of what makes this phone great is its diverse selection of ROMs. All these posts about needing a single ROM show A) complete lack of patience, and B)likely little understanding of how the phone, kernel, root, filesystem, etc works at all.
I think bashing someone for asking a question or making a suggestion you disagree with is pathetic. You all act like you wiped the embryonic fluid out your mouth and started spouting code. I'd much rather be a noob than a snob. Do you not realize the more newcomers the better? Newcomers become old comers like the great devs we have today... so don't be a part of the problem by stiffening innovation and contribution. Be a part of the solution: be patient with pwople, encourage ideas, make helpful suggestions (like I believe they are having this discussion on the thread below this one)

I somewhat agree with this. Getting tired of the development threads clogging up with "How do I reboot my phone?" and "Do I need to wipe my ass before flashing this rom?" questions.
People just refuse to read or research on their own anymore.

Wait, you have to wipe your ass before flashing a ROM? ... **** ...
the OTA will be the first fully functional and stable ics. i don't think google have better dev.
i'm sure there is real genius on xda. but google work in team...
so the ics collab is not a bad idea.
and why not one-click-root? every one wants a fancy and better phone! what's wrong with that?
but you are right. no need to ask on forum how to. "root (phone)" on google and you find two hundred answers...
I agree with you too

jeez im sorry for posting this on here, i didn't even know there were a thread like that already, but **** yall need to calm the f down
Well, with all due respect, suggesting or telling devs to work together is almost insulting.
Devs dont take lightly to people telling them what they should and shouldn't do. I'm not saying you're being demanding by any means, but regardless, theyll see the post, and more than likely think "Who the hell does this guy think he is, talking about how I need to work with someone else, so ICS is more complete"
Have patience.....they're working hard....on their day jobs first.

That, or I wish one-click roots would stop existing. It robs people of valuable experience and knowledge of the platform when they can mindlessly double-click and be rooted.

So, finally my nexus 7 will be delivered on Tuesday. I'm neither new to android, nor to the world of nexus (Nexus S), but I don't have any experience with this piece of hardware. My first step will be rooting it, but are there any must-do things? Like on Nexus S Voodoo, NStools, etc. I know, there is no voodoo sound for nexus 7 (sigh...). I consider myself a poweruser, flashing, adb won't frighten me, so pretty much every customization is interesting for me which can give me even better user experience.
Thanks, and I'm very excited to be part of the n7 community!
Recommend app is pimp my ROM, also Nova Launcher by far and away better than stock

Do a lot of reading and don't ask for eta on Roms and I'm sure u will fit in.

Spend some time reading and searching, start with the stickies. Post to an existing related thread rather than start a new one for the same thing. :good:
Might I suggest a ROM? I have had my N7 since July 20 and this is the best I have found.
It has KingBeatZ and flash built in.
Enjoy your new device.

I'm using Nova since its beta version, wouldn't use anything else.
When I read 'pimp my rom', i thought you were joking, never even heard of it, but most definitely will try on my Nexus S before the n7 arrives.

Seems interesting, I'm sure that stock ROM won't stay for long, first to try will be this!

I don't understand why does it annoy You. I was looking for some advice to have a nice and easy start with the n7, wasn't posting stupid things to the development section. I thought general section is a good place for it, to spare me few hours of reading, if anyone cares to answer at all. I already got some nice suggestion how to start, and thank you for that.
If this thread hurts anyone in any way, let it closed or moved by a moderator.
Not one nexus s general threads were opened only to say farewell, when they sell their phones to get an other one, i don't see how is my thread any worse than those.
Look at using wugfresh toolkit 1.6.2, its well explained, can view it on YouTube. That will root, unlock and install a great very easy to use recovery image twrp. just a matter of flashing roms/kernels from recovery, easy peasy. Don't forget to take nandroid backups, titaniuim backup for apps backups is the best by far.
Take a look at the following to greatly enhance sound (which is dodgy with stock)

Right there is the problem. No one is paid to be here and no one is here to "spare you a few hours of reading." This is a self-service forum, not a help desk. Drop the entitlement attitude and do your own work. Most everything you need to know is in here, and if it isn't THEN ask. Is that too hard to understand? It's not whether the thread "hurts anyone in any way," it's about not clogging the forum with threads that can be answered by you doing a little work on your own. You said you weren't a noob, so you should know that this is how XDA operates.

I will stop here, and won't answer to that, or it'll never end.
Some did actually help, others shouldn't waste their time answering me. I was politely asking for suggestions, because it's worked that way on nexus s threads. Someone had a question, others answered, even if it was about rooting or flashing, which has been covered million times. If there was a thread about the same problem, we posted the link to there, he got help, moderators closed the thread. I searched and didn't find the right thread to ask my Q, so I opened one. I didn't mean any trouble, and also some people actually answered. I was excited to get my n7, and wanted to know more about it, now I'm discouraged.

Try multirom! The best n7 development! With it you can use as much ROM as you want, plus linux!
