[Q] Precached maps: 'Error loading, tap to download' - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else get this with the Maps app? It seems they are stored for a few days to weeks, then the application or the system deletes them. Does anyone know why?

Interestingly enough, I ran into the exact same thing this morning. I'd downloaded a section of my local area a few weeks ago after wiping my 32 gigger & when trying to check directions this morning (offline), the map never filled in & I noticed the exact same message on the offline pane. Being able to store offline maps is kinda useless if the device reclaims that storage via some kind of background process.

I have this too, all the time, on my Galaxy Nexus stock 4.1.2. As far as I know, this has always happened, sooner or later, to any off-line maps I had downloaded. What could be causing this? Is there a way to repair/circumvent this bug?

Bug has been fixed!
Apparently this bug has been fixed: with the latest version of Google Maps, it doesn't happen any more. Thank you, Google!

[Q] Issues downloading apps from marketplace after firmware upgrade

HI all, this past weekend Kies popped up with a notification that there was a firmware upgrade for my Galaxy S. I immediately downloaded and installed it, I guess a newbie mistake. When completed I found that all my apps vanished and my settings went back to out of the box state. Though annoying I spent much of Saturday morning trying to get my phone back to where I had it before the update. The issue now though is that when I log into the market I find I am unable to download certain apps, I get to the install button on the phone then I get an error message "file not found". This is troublesome as there are a few apps that I had before the upgrade that I can no longer install, including paid apps, (examples Pandora, Pure Calendar) nor am I able to install certain new apps. I read that the market will no longer display protected content after this upgrade. I spoke to Samsung who told me to take the phone back to the Bell store. Bell told me to call Samsung as it is a firmware issue
Has anyone else experienced this, and does anyone know of a solution to the problem.
Thank you

Some people suffered market problems after upgrading to the UK-released JM1 last week. Apparently Samsung has to notify Google that they released an official update, so that Google allows access to paid and copy protected apps for that firmware. It took a couple of days for everyone to see everything over here. Maybe you just have to wait a bit (?)
Same happened here in Australia.. It was fixed the next day. I called Samsung to complain about it (when it was still happening) and was told that there was nothing they could do (which seemed like rubbish to me)..
If you are updating to a unsupported (beta) fw, make sure you install a rom or replace your build.prop file with a supported fw file.
Hi my phone is a month old now, everything is stock..no mods so far..I am having multiple problems with my phone.
- I cannot download anything from Market..it starts download and then 'download unsuccessful'
- FM radio never worked for me, not even after manually tuning it.
- I am not able to use wifi..it just says 'obtaining address...'
I did a factory reset yesterday and after that I was able to download 2~3 apps from Market..but today I am facing the same issue again.
Please help me guys..
Thanks guys for the help, it turns out that the issue was exactly what you said, but maybe more to the point, my own impatience.
Thanks again

I am on the Captivate running the beta I897UCJH2 firmware. I have market issue with some apps (e.g., Asphalt 5 HD, Fandango, and G4Tv) not showing up. I tried your method of copying over the build.prop file from the official I897UCJF6 firmware release. Even rebooted after doing that. The missing apps never showed up, so I reverted back to the JH2 build.prop file. Any other suggestions to fix my issue?
P.S. - Spoke too soon. This does work. Someone suggested clearing Market cache, followed by reboot, and then installing and reinstalling a couple of apps. And that did the trick.
from what i can gather it seems to be related to a location issue, as in certain apps will not show up for some countries and other apps will, etc.
so if you load firmwares from different geographic location the market is filtering what it allows/not allows bassed on the rom firmware location.
it'll be great if we can remove that filter and have it show everything online.
the work around that i do is find and download the apps via browser, instead of market
also avoid the barcode scanner downloads, which just launches the market app

Are you saying there a site where I can get the all the apks for these missing apps downloaded by bypassing the market? I have never run across it so far. Every one of the solutions so far has the phone launching the market app at some point, which fails, as the apps are not listed or downloadable there. The apps I am talking about are all free and should be legally able to be sideloaded, but how?

[Q] New Market Place

So everthing was fine till yestarday, this morning I open the market place to see if there is something new or exiting that I should buy. Suddenly I noticed I have only two options to choose from either; samsung or all. before it was;
samsung
games
apps
maps
social
etc
How the hell did they downgrade to this. Right now all the games and apps are mixed up. Anyone has any idea how to fix this.
Thanks
Bikram
Have you changed the language or region settings on your phone? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause this kind of behavior.
Does the phone auto update the market based on where you're located?
Might try relocating yourself with the settings. Might have been a GPS error.
This might have been when the marketplace was down, experiencing errors though.

[Q] Google now - not showing cards..

Hello,
So I've been using Google now for about a month now, and in that time I thought the service should have learn my patterns etc...
However, it hasn't, I have all the privacy intruding options on, e.g. GPS location services etc, and I have my home and work set up correctly, though I haven't had any cards on when I should leave for work, in-fact I haven't had any cards apart from weather at-all. They're all enabled, but it just doesn't show anything?
I've set my home and work locations, and according to Google latitude's history it logged me in at work (when I get there) and at home as-well.
I've looked up some "set-up" tutorials on Google now, and I've done it all apart from this screen:
http://puu.sh/2dPgs
I dont seem to have that screen at all, I have the option but when I go to the option I get this:
(sorry for the blur, I'm very privacy conscious) http://puu.sh/2dPqi
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Could be related, but Google Now seems to be down for me (noticed it was down around 6p and its 9p my time). All I get is local events and my next appointment. Up till this afternoon it has always worked for me (been using jb since it released).
EDIT: It seems that gNow is partially down at the moment others are reporting issues as well http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...301-weather-card-google-now-went-missing.html

[Q] Play Store on multiple devices issue.....

I noticed a couple of people with similar issues on here, however I felt this wasn't explained in a detailed way or my issue is just different but here goes:
2 NEXUS DEVICES:
- Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 both running 4.2.2 and the latest version of the Play Store
ISSUE:
- This issue will jump back and forth from the N4 to N7 play store,
- when I go to the "My apps" section in the play store on either device it will sometimes show 30 apps installed, even though i have about 128 apps installed. this will occur vise versa (N4 shows 30 apps, N7 shows 128, vise versa)
- Also when i go to the web version of the play store it will also show the same inconsistencies on both devices under "my android apps" for both devices listed.
- I only use 1 gmail account for both devices
- when the 2 devices are experiencing this odd issue and i try to download or purchase a new app, i will get this error: "error retrieving information from server [BM-PP-14]"
- The only device not having this issue and may not be worth mentioning is i use a sony Internet TV Box (google TV)
- THINGS I HAVE DONE TO TRY TO FIX:
- factory reset on both devices
- uninstall updates/clear data/re-boot device/re-launch play store
- google the issue but no luck on fix...(or the issue comes close to mine but missing something)
- made sure on google wallet only shows the 2 devices linked to them
OTHER ODD ISSUES I'VE NOTICED:
- when going into the play store on any device under "my apps" and you swipe to the right under "ALL" the screen keeps "loading" and apps appear, and disappear, in a looping matter.
So thats it, I cant think of anything else to do, I have read suggestions of login in with another gmail address, or something of that sense, but I never ever had to do that, this issue just started, and I've always had multiple devices....
Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Probably gonna jinx it but mysteriously this issue was solved last night, woke up this morning and both play stores on both devices show over 100 apps installed under "my apps" as it should be. Thanks anyways no one lol

[Q] Google Play Books Issues

Hi Guys
Not entirly sure where this goes.
I love using Google play books as its the best close platform reader I can find.
The issue I have is that on my Note 3 when I select to download a book the size of the download is extremely large.
For example I tried to download a book which was 3mb and the total data for the appp shot up to 388mb. When I had download a slection of around 15 books the data was 7.2gb before I noticed. The downloads of boxes tend to fail alot its almost as if it fails then starts again without deleting the partial download previous.
I also noticed an issue today where the app downloaded over a gb for what I can see to be no reason, its also as it was downloading anytime it found wireless ran through the battery in around ten hours.
Has anyone came across this before and managed to get it resolved ?
Its a shame there is so many problems with it given how good a service it can be.
Cheers Guys
