I noticed a couple of people with similar issues on here, however I felt this wasn't explained in a detailed way or my issue is just different but here goes:
2 NEXUS DEVICES:
- Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 both running 4.2.2 and the latest version of the Play Store
ISSUE:
- This issue will jump back and forth from the N4 to N7 play store,
- when I go to the "My apps" section in the play store on either device it will sometimes show 30 apps installed, even though i have about 128 apps installed. this will occur vise versa (N4 shows 30 apps, N7 shows 128, vise versa)
- Also when i go to the web version of the play store it will also show the same inconsistencies on both devices under "my android apps" for both devices listed.
- I only use 1 gmail account for both devices
- when the 2 devices are experiencing this odd issue and i try to download or purchase a new app, i will get this error: "error retrieving information from server [BM-PP-14]"
- The only device not having this issue and may not be worth mentioning is i use a sony Internet TV Box (google TV)
- THINGS I HAVE DONE TO TRY TO FIX:
- factory reset on both devices
- uninstall updates/clear data/re-boot device/re-launch play store
- google the issue but no luck on fix...(or the issue comes close to mine but missing something)
- made sure on google wallet only shows the 2 devices linked to them
OTHER ODD ISSUES I'VE NOTICED:
- when going into the play store on any device under "my apps" and you swipe to the right under "ALL" the screen keeps "loading" and apps appear, and disappear, in a looping matter.
So thats it, I cant think of anything else to do, I have read suggestions of login in with another gmail address, or something of that sense, but I never ever had to do that, this issue just started, and I've always had multiple devices....
Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Probably gonna jinx it but mysteriously this issue was solved last night, woke up this morning and both play stores on both devices show over 100 apps installed under "my apps" as it should be. Thanks anyways no one lol

As we all know the Google Latitude service is shutting down on 9th August 2013.
Does anyone know of a suitable replacement?
p.s I never made it to the moon :crying:
The official replacement is "Locations" in Google+. Any reason why that won't work for you?

Come next month, they won't be using Latitude either. I don't understand why looking for another app is preferential to switching to Google+. Is it just having to add it to your account? Or is it something else?

Google latitude ran under Google maps, so users of Google maps (virtually anyone) could follow each other. Now that latitude is being moved under Google+, only people with plus accounts will be able to use it. Since my family and friends don't use Google+, if we want to follow each other we will all have to sign up for Google+ accounts, just to use latitude. Seems like an unnecessary amount of work, for a feature that is useful during vacations and trips. Hope this explains it a bit.

Google+ is a single option on a Google account. If they are using Maps with Latitude, the already have a Google account. IIRC adding Plus to an existing Google account is a single mouseclick.

Google+ is a social media service, like facebook, that is altogether separate. Larry Page is obsessed with having everyone sign up for Google+ because most people are surfing the web via their mobile phones and Facebook is dominating the mobile ad space. My friends and family are not likely to migrate from Facebook to Google+, so I need an alternative to Latitude.
If you'd like further clarity, feel free to PM me, rather than us having a long personal conversation on a forum about Latitude alternatives.
You don't have to use it, you just need to opt in to use the location services. I don't see what the big deal is but to each their own.

You will have to open the Google+ app to follow your friends and family. It has been physically removed from the updated Maps app.
The problem is that you don't even HAVE to have a Google + "account" just because you have a Google account. I can go into my Google account right now and delete my Google + profile. So that's not even true. To have to opt into and then use the Google + app is a pretty lame alternative. ALSO, the Google + Locations really sucks right now. My boyfriend and I are in each other's circles, have shared our locations with each other, and turned on background location reporting, but he does not show up as a person who I can see his location. He showed up for 1 hour when we first set it up, but he's since disappeared, even though I've been right next to him and seen his settings on his phone as we tried to troubleshoot. It needs some serious work before it's ready to replace Latitude.
I've been trying to use Glympse for those times when I need to let someone know where I am, and for them to track me. The only down side is you can only let people see your location for up to 4 hours at a time. When you've got an active Glympse running, your GPS is in constant use too, so it will drain your battery faster than Latitude did. You can opt to turn your GPS off and just let Glympse use WiFi or cell networks to locate you, but it won't be as accurate.
Other than that, all the other alternatives are also closer to social networking or checkin apps that also happen to share your location. I just want something simple, LIKE LATITUDE.
Oh. I guess the alternative is Latitude. I don't understand why they killed it off. I hope maybe Backitude will pull a Feedly and create something neat out of this.

For me, three things:
1. No option to navigate to a person on the map
2. No "last update" time stamp means sometimes the locations are 5 minutes old. Sometimes an hour.
3. No accuracy bubble
It's basically useless as a way to figure out where people are at any given time. Extremely annoying to have that go away. Hopefully there will be a replacement that shows up that doesn't drain the battery. Something that automatically responds to a ping for a check-in rather than polling for locations every X minutes would be great.

Hi, these are some valid concerns. I am not a big fan of the location tracking features so were unaware of these. Hopefully, as Google continues to unify its social services we will eventually see more granular features resurface. I miss the offline ability in the new maps more than anything else at the moment. Hangouts not showing online status is annoying as well. Its important to leave Google feedback through official channels when valued existing features go AWOL. It has always been Android's nature to throw out something half-baked, and improve (or kill ) it over time based on user feedback.
As for battery... Google announced a number of new API's that would be rolling out this year. Some of which are specifically designed to reign in apps that poll/push data. I remember location services being a big part of that.I'm willing to bet this will get better over time.

I've already complained to google, but I'm not real hopeful there. If Latitude wasn't being used heavily, it didn't make sense to leave it in Maps cluttering up the interface. I don't blame them.
For me, literally the only thing I want to use this for is making it easier to coordinate with my wife, or friends/family when we're on road trips. I suspect thats how most people were using it. It's great to be able to see that she's left her office or is at our kids' daycare or is 10 minutes away from a restaurant without calling her a dozen times a day. Losing the 'last update' stamp ruins that use case. Really not sure how they envision people using the G+ locations feature.
Apple's Find My Friends was great when my wife and I were on iOS. It behaved almost exactly right, only ever reporting your location when someone on your whitelist opened up their FMF app. There was no real power drain associated with it. All the apps in the Play store that fill this niche seem to report locations on their own, which is dumb *and* a redundant power drain given that Google location services is already grabbing that location.
Oh well.

Apple does it right in not allowing apps to just go out and post/get whatever they want, whenever they want it. The app has to register for the info, and the system coalesces these requests for when the corresponding hardware is connected. Google is well on their way to implementing this same behavior.
Having much of this stuff better unified is a good thing IMHO, and I understand the thinking that things related to friends and family should be found in + and not maps. And based on what I saw at I/O, this will get better.
From what I've heard, the previously mentioned Glympse is a pretty decent replacement depending on what features you need. It's more aimed towards temporary location sharing between people during car trips, theme park visits, going out for lunch, etc. There's no option to leave it permanently on, though, and it doesn't appear to use intermittent polling.
Now that Latitude is dead, who knows if it will introduce this functionality to get new users?
I'm hoping that there is a location history feature in the new Google+ locations as I use this a lot, but I would love to eventually reach the moon - and maybe beyond!
It's an opening for another Feedly to come in and increase their market share. Someone like echoecho or swarmly could tweak their application to provide the same functionality, while furthering their own growth, a percentage of those new users would start using their services as result.
If I knew enough about Android development I’d quickly drop an app that pulled the Google+ location information and dumped it into maps provided by the Google Maps API with the options for satellite imagery and streetview. I'm really surprised that Google didn't merge the existing functionality into Google+, it must be available as they'll only be leveraging Google Maps anyway, certainly in regards the above.

Location history will remain:
If you use Location Reporting and have Location History enabled, your location data will continue to be recorded to your Location History. You can view and manage Location History data on the Location History dashboard.
Note: We’re no longer supporting Google Maps for Mobile 6.14.4 and below for Location History or Location Reporting settings.
google is forcing us to use their G+, first was gtalk converted to hangouts, now latitude
i have yet to find a map of people in G+ on the PC, i can only see people on the phone
now they have a universal "location tracking" setting in android, the new maps v7 is garbage, hopefully someone is able to mod the old maps apk to push and pull data from their new location service, reformat it and keep latitude working in the old maps

So I was wondering how many of you had gone through with implementing the buildprop change that enables Google AI. I decided to do it the other night and have been fiddling around with it since then. If you haven't done it, it basically turns Now-on-Tap into "Voice Search by default," but you can still do screen searches for things like USPS Tracking and Phone/Address Lookup. Voice searches are vastly improved; it will auto-start Navigation, fetch links as a list of cards (for example, miniaturized news feeds), open apps instantly (provided the phone isn't locked), and essentially just be all around snappier than Google Now/Now-on-Tap.
That said, it does bother me that the phone literally had to be rebranded as a Pixel to make this work. A) It's not the most stable change, and 2) that change is now reflected on any device/prompt that interacts with my phone. It managed to be picked up by adware on a sketchy site (don't ask what sketchy sites I go to), and my desktop also mislabels it on USB connection. Does anyone know if Motorola allows you to change the device name for USB connection? I know LG lets you.
But yeah, those are my thoughts on it. I might try it out for a week or two, and if I'm not exactly bowled over by it, I'll probably just go back to Now-on-Tap. But I wanted to hear your guys' thoughts.
I don't even use now-on-tap, and I've done the assistant bulildprop trick before, and it made little to no difference on how often I use both of them. I understand what you mean by having to rebrand it to a pixel though - Google shouldn't make this Pixel exclusive
I recently discovered the joys of package disabling, using this XDA article as a guide and it has been 99% amazing. My battery life went up significantly and the bixby button is disabled without having to use some third party app.
However, the 1% that isn't amazing is the fact that google play seems to no longer be able to automatically update my apps. I can go in and manually update them, and it still shows a big list of which apps are available to update, and auto update is still turned on... but I suspect something I disabled may be not allowing google play to actually run the updates. Any thoughts?
I was reading another thread about which things people have disabled, and someone mentioned the settings menu loads slower... another person knew right away that it was two services that you had to re-enable, so I figured maybe someone just kinda knew what to do without having to go through each service/package and guess...

Bump!
I'd recently installed Google Play onto my Fire HD 10 and noticed my weather apps could no longer access the location services to give me the local weather. It doesn't matter if the apps were downloaded from the Amazon or Play store. The only weather app that still works is the preinstalled one from Amazon. I've checked the Location function is enabled for all the apps within Settings.
Before Google Play installed, the weather apps downloaded from Amazon appstore definitely worked. I'm surprised this issue is not widely known as I've tried a factory reset several times to start again and could reproduce this problem each time.
Please help as this is really annoying as I really want to use the Google Play store.

We jerry rig these things to the point amazon internals cease to function properly, even without root. Location among them. I guess I can go ahead and write a guide this weekend that could put an end to that. In the framework, there are a few pre defined settings for AGPS. These settings use the Google AGPS system. Amazon only has it half set up. There are no servers set either. I have inserted some default settings I have come across on various devices, to at least get a position lock. Google maps has me off by only a few feet. The issue is, Amazon set it up in the framework for AGPS to work, but never activated it. This also prevents adding a gps.conf file because any additions made to the framework AGPS, override any settings set in the system files. What I will do this weekend is start from a fresh framework-res.apk and settings apk, and set only the AGPS settings. If it works, you unfortunately get no visual effect aside from what your apps provide you.

Now I understand, I thought I might have a faulty HD 10 as no one else has mentioned this problem but somehow knew it must be a software issue as before Google Play it worked fine. I'm not even sure the AGPS settings work myself. I'm just speaking based on my experience so far. Very very few providers use the agps settings in the framework because their devices support GPS. The HD 10 supports GPS. Even has a GPS chip. However, the instructions sent to the preloader at boot tell the preloader GPS is unsupported. I can switch the settings in the Project config.mk, but if it doesn't match the values set in the preloader, the preloader overrides the settings in the .mk. it also links to the other loader too so that would also need to be modified. But without an unlocked bootloader, we can't make changes to those imgs without bricking the tablet. I wish we could take the preloader settings from the HD 8 and load them into the HD 10 preloader. All we need to tweak is the cpu specs and it would be good to go. Damn you Amazon.

So the HD 10 has a real GPS built-in, that's interesting. I wonder is that why a compass pointer appears momentarily at the top of the screen when the Amazon weather app accesses the location services. Never mind but thanks for your effort to look into this. Yes damn you Amazon indeed.

Because the HD 10, and pretty much all modern Amazon tablets have 'HERE Positioning' which has no activity and can't be launched, but is the driver for Amazon location services. What little I can gather from the company, they specialize in indoor GPS and uses a similar system to agps. I imagine a user interface arises when you are registered to certain Amazon interfaces, but I've never experimented with an Amazon tablet fully registered and used on Amazon software.
Point being, there is a GPS chip. Look in /system/data/misc at ProjectConfig.mk you'll see the device includes a GPS chip from an older chipset, but the following line says GPS-support=no. the only way to fix this is to modify the kernel. If you scroll to the bottom you'll see a few director locations, like the preloader. The preloader is going to default to whatever it's programmed to, but I've never looked at it. You can edit the file to say yes, but if it doesn't match what the preloaders say, they will override the changes to the make file and boot to set defaults.
Can it be changed? Yes. Will it boot? The chances are slim to none. Modifying any of those partitions and recompiling them will brick the device beyond repair. Locked bootloader means signature verification is active. You modify the prelaoder or boot images, the device will soft or permanent brick.
There is one good thing about this kernel make file. With root, you can add any of the MTK values that say yes, to the build prop, if they aren't already there. for example, from the make file we have:
Code:
MTK_SIM_HOT_SWAP = yes
This is included in the build, but is not supported in the build prop, or the framework (we don't have a mobile device). But if the framework we're not predefined and this were a cell phone, you could add the above to the build prop as:
Code:
ro.mtk_sim_hot_swap_support=1
and so on...
I'm hoping Devo mode will change all of this and then some.
I bought Fire HD 10 for using as head unit in my car. Therefore, Navigation is important for me. Initially I rooted device and tried some offline navigation apps like Maps.me and Here we Go. It didn't work, now I am wondering if mine is bad unit or GPS is expected not to work.

The GPS chip is disabled in the kernel. If you have flash fire set up, try flashing nano gapps. when I am settled from moving, I'll post and updated framework apk that I've been working on that should help with location.

So it seems I may have found the issue. When you set up the play store, before installing Google, make sure 'find my device' is NOT set as administrator at least until you get the pop up that asks if you want to use Google's enhanced location services.
Was trying to solve this problem on a tablet I wanted to use as a jukebox in my car. The jukebox app required location services so that only nearby users could add songs.
On a whim I installed Google Maps from the Play Store, pressed the compass/zoom on my location button within Maps, and that prompted me to turn on Google Location Services. This was on a 5th gen Fire 7 downgraded to FireOS 5.4.0. YMMV with other tablets/OS version.

It depends how bad you want location services to work. If you aren't too concerned, you can install a GPS spoofer and just use it whenever you need location services. The issue with using one of those, keeping a spoofer running all the time will drain your battery quick.

I don't know. All I know is the chip is there, but Amazon had it disabled at build. It's evident in the .mk file in /system/data/misc on the HD 10:
Code:

MTK_GPS_SUPPORT = no

There are a few good GPS emulator apps out there as well.
Could anyone tell me if any fix for this having found? Pleade, should I uninstall Google play and grant access to my location to any one?
Here is what I found on my own, if you enable Scanning Wifi and Scanning Blue Tooth which were disabled by Default the location works in some applications.

This worked like a charm for my 2019 HD10. Installed Google play & services immediately after unboxing and no weather app would work. I installed Google maps as you suggested and clicked OK at the prompt to turn on location services and presto, all weather apps are now working. Thank you.
Pretty old thread, but hopefully someone will stumble upon this easy fix.
Hello everybody.
I just got the most current Fire HD 10+ (11th Gen, with 4GB) on a Black Friday deal to use mainly as a car Media and Navigation unit, but the GPS Performance is absolutely terrible.
The included Maps app (Nokia's Here) is barebones and can give you instructions but not precise navigation, so I followed a guide to install Google Services/Play Store and Google Maps.
The GPS kinda works, but mostly when I'm stationary. As soon as I move, it loses satellite signal, and it is veeeery sloppy. Sometimes I need to close the app and open again to have some update (you can imagine how trying this can be while driving on a Freeway).
I spent almost 30 minutes doing "the infinity" symbol to improve accuracy, but Google Maps still says the accuracy is very low.
Any advice on what can I do to make this a usable navigation device?
Thank you
