You need to be rooted. After flashing, you'll find that option (Settings > Wireless & Networks > Tethering and portable hotspot).

there is no option to do it without root the device?
there is not external app that can do the same thing ?

Well, is there any options similar to what I said in my last post?

No, you need to mod the kernel at least.

No need to have a plan from your carrier. I'm with ATT and have never had a tether plan, but I have been tethering for over a year on various device.....SSHHHHH!!!! don't tell

Does you're wifi tethering work? I can't get it to work.
It's installed, it's sending a signal, but I can't pick up the signal on any of my computers, phones, or tablets.
I'm using wireless tether 2.0.8.
Don't install another app (wireless tether).
Use the program that comes stock on your phone. You can find it under settings > wireless and network > tethering and portable hotspot > portable wi-fi hotspot settings.

Thanks. I guess I'll stick with this one.
I guess there is no point for anyone to write a kernel for this app to allow netfilter-enable, especially since the stock one actually shows up as a wifi signal as opposed to ad-hoc.

Data connection problem

Check " settings > data usage > turn on mobile data.
Also settings> more > mobile networks > check data enable and uncheck use 2g network. If these instructions don't work then you need to get right APN for your network.
Hope this helps

I have the same problem but not always, only sometimes.
Any advice?

[Q] Tethering another phone (with data) so my N4 can use it

Situation:
I have an LG Optimus V (with Virgin Mobile) that is currently under the 25 dollar plan (basically has 3G "unlimited").
I have it rooted and use Wireless Tether for Root Users to usually tether data to my laptop, iPad, even my desktop w/ a wireless USB adapter.
However no settings I have tried and played with can get my Nexus 4 to see the tether set up by my LG Optimus V at all. My iPad, laptop, and desktop see it, but my N4 cannot.
I have tried Barnacle Tether, and same result.
Is there something I can do to get my N4 to see my other phone's tether and use it properly like my other devices?
Thanks in advance.
bluetooth teether
Open Settings -> WiFi -> Menu button -> Advanced -> WiFi frequency band -> make sure it's on auto.

Mine is on Auto on my N4. There is no option for that on my LG Optimus V (on a custom ROM though).
I've tried all suggestions given to me.
No luck.
Anyone else?
Any luck with this?

I would try a bluetooth tether, also check if you can put the optimus in an infrastructure mode if its on ad hoc mode
foxfi
that was my answer to my problem and just like @lopezk38 said use the bluetooth wifi... foxfi worked just great for me.:cyclops:
Don't know if it makes any difference but the Optimus V lacks 802.11n In its Wi-Fi hardware just something to consider and rule out as a culprit.

Tethering?
Wi-Fi Hotspot:
Settings --> Wireless & Networks/More... --> Tethering & Portable Hotspot --> check "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot"
Setup Wi-Fi Hotspot --> Here you can change the SSID (name) of your Wi-Fi network, add/remove security (WPA2 PSK recommended), and change the password.
USB Tether:
Connect your phone to the computer via USB, access tethering options the same way as the hotspot, check "USB Tethering"

I'm not sure if the xbox supports USB tethering, but I could be wrong. With the wifi hotspot, try disabling the password and see if it works then.
I had a my touch 4g before and used a wifi Tether app cause I was rooted and it worked but when I tried using the same tethering app it said that there was a installation bindery error see show log

Try the stock tethering interface. Disable the security (for testing purposes) and see if it works.
