Dolphin is a PITA for copying URLs.
Add bookmark for the page you want to copy the URL for, but before clicking "OK", long press in the address then click copy out of the box there, then click cancel so you don't have the bookmark.
The only way I know to copy URL in Dolphin
you can highlight the url to copy.. It takes double tapping on the url just exactly right to fast it will reload to slow .. ahh i forget what it does.. Its frustrating beyound reasonable.. the book mark thing works as well...this issue also exist in stock browser... GRRRRR Makes me wanna chuck my tablet across the room at times...

I'll try this out when I get home. I don't have this problem when using my Evo 3D on the dolphin browser. I thought there might be a trick. Thanks for the info.

It's been a known issue with Dolphin since day one that they haven't deemed necessary to fix!
I have an Acer Iconia A500 and I use Dolphin Browser HD with the stock keyboard.
To copy a URL, I navigate to the page, press and hold in the address bar, and then select "Copy page url" from the resulting choices. It doesn't visibly highlight the URL, but it's there when I go to paste.

Glad to know that my first forum post actually helped someone. I'm using the latest version (7.3.0) of Dolphin Browser HD. I'm not sure when the "copy URL" feature was added, as I've had my Acer Iconia A500 and A100 for less than a month.
I'm new to Android, and I have a question that is probably very basic.... My touch is often imprecise, even when the page is zoomed, and when I'm trying to type something I often find that I need to move forward just a character or a word or two. Is there some way to do this with the on-screen keyboard? Sometimes it drives me nuts trying to find the spot I want to get to with my finger!

Not with the stock keyboard. Try Hackers Keyboard in the market, it adds arrow keys.

I have never had that issue on my a500, even when I was running pure unrooted stock. Just press and hold on the URL in the address bar. Little bar above comes up with cut, copy, and paste. Easy easy.
*redownloads dolphin HD*
*instantly remembers why I removed it*
Ah well. Yeah, as I thought, look at the address bar, press and hold on the URL, there's your menu, with copy URL on it.
Simple.
I don't get what issues you guys are having, sorry.

It was not always so in Dolphin HD. As a matter of fact if you do a deep search in this forum (at least a few months back), Dolphin lacked that feature

The little blue tab that appears when you click in a text area is supposed to help with that (supposedly just drag it where you want your cursor), but it's FAR from perfect

I just tried that, and it does help a lot! I was able to slide the green arrow tab where I needed it to go. Thank you so much!
Does anyone know where there are similar Android on-screen keyboard tips? I'd like to review the basics—like how to highlight, copy, paste, etc. I tried Google, but I couldn't find what I was looking for.
heres your guide:
To highlight something long press on the word. In dolphin a menu will pop up. Hit select text. The word will be selected and there will be a bar on the top of your page with copy, ect. In the stock hc browser, the popup menu step is simply skipped.

Thank you! I've been able to copy things randomly, but I was never quite sure how I had done it!
I just tried what you suggested, and now I see that I can move the green arrow tab(s) to highlight and copy multiple words too. Yay!
(Sorry, my mistake - I meant to post this in Q&A and just realised I posted this in General, could it be moved please?)
This seems really basic but it's been driving me mad. Don't know if it's just me?
First, in some apps the keyboard has no @ symbol and I can't find it whatever I do. In others you can long press the / key to get @. So the on-screen keyboard implementation seems inconsistent across apps. I tried switching to the US keyboard but it was the same, so it must be the app.
Secondly, the copy/paste functionality also seems inconsistent. In some apps I can long press and get the option to copy. In others, whatever I do I can't call up any copy option at all, only Paste. I found this out when I tried to enter an @ symbol in one app (whose keyboard didn't have the @ symbol) by pasting the symbol from another app.
Has anyone else got this issue please? Is there an easy way to get the @ symbol, and also to call up Copy?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

the @ symbol is left of the spacebar. Either hit caps (up arrow) to select it or hit the numbers button (123)
I often have hit or miss on copy/paste. copy works if you hold it over a word, so zoom in.
Inconsistent keyboard layouts and @ symbol

Regarding copy/paste, thanks very much dilldoe - zooming in and holding exactly over a word worked, cheers! (I'm too used to how the iPad works, I think - you don't even have to tap over a word there, as long as you're tapping somewhere in the box).
But regarding the @ symbol, that's the puzzling thing. Please see the screenshots attached. In Chrome on the standard Google search page, if I tap in the search box on the page itself, the @ symbol is right there to the left of the spacebar, I've outlined it in red.
However, if I tap in the Chrome address bar, you'll see that the on-screen keyboard is now different - the @ symbol is replaced by a colon ( ie : ), and with that particular keyboard it's impossible to locate the @ symbol. Tapping on 123 or to get to other symbols doesn't find it - there's a copyright symbol, and other symbols, but not the @ symbol!
I would have thought the on-screen keyboard should be consistent but even within the same app, as you'll see, it isn't...
It's not such an issue now that I can paste an @ symbol from elsewhere, but it's still odd and frustrating - is this an Android thing, or JellyBean, or app-dependent, please?

It's a keyboard issue. If it annoys you that much, just install another keyboard.
I thought that's due to the keyboard being contextual?
You don't need a @ in the URL bar? - so it rejiggles what keys there are?

That's correct, but I would consider it a bug that the symbol's not available anywhere.

It normally isn't. The only instance I can think of is if you include your username and password in the url (not uncommon with ftp), but even then, it should prompt you for your login info if you don't provide it.

Cheers for all your thoughts and I agree, if it's a keyboard issue that's a bug with a keyboard.
As AZImmortal said, it's possible that you may need the @ symbol in URLs for username/passwords. But even if not, the fact that you can't call it up at all is in my view a bug, or error at least.
thebobp (or anyone else) what alternative keyboards do you like?

This is obnoxious as hell. I have a Nexus 7 and on the app IP Camera Viewer the @ symbol is not available so I cannot add in my IP camera for remote monitoring
Ok, this is going to probably sound really dumb, but it's driving me nuts.
I've used Android for a few years now, and I've never sorted out if there's a way to scroll left and right in a text area.
No matter what keyboard I've used, I just end up deleting the whole dang thing, and typing from scratch, if it's text in a small window.
For example, if I typed a long url, and I realized after hitting enter that I must have made a typo. I'd like to go left to right in that bar and look for it easily.
I guess this has plagued me on every Apple and Android device I've owned. On RIM it was easy enough, and on older Symbian it was fine.
What the heck am I missing here?
Thanks!
Tap anywhere on the entered text - wait - there will be a blue arrow cursor below the text. Drag it whenever you want to start typing from.

Ah, it's a Firefox issue then. I tried chrome and it works in that (though I never really use chrome).
Ok thanks.
I was hoping there would be a convenient left and right key option on the keyboard itself, so that it wouldn't matter what app I'm using, but I guess it's tied to the app itself. That kind of stinks. It's rather awkward in design.
Do you know of an alternative keyboard that supports that type of functionality? I like the "Swpe-like" setup in the stock keyboard, but I'd much rather have an easier correction method built in.
You can enable the function to move the cursor using the volume rocker. It's in Settings - Language and Input - and that option will be down below the input methods
I miss the big keyboard with arrows from HTC Flyer though - it's pretty awesome to use in portrait mode, though not as useful in landscape since it takes much more space than N7's does
And no, I don't know about other keyboard since I don't use them, I prefer stock

That was the first place I looked - didn't see anything from RichNote in there. I do see QuickMemo files of mine.
In the RichNote app, I can see my saved files, but I can't find any way to delete them.
Ohhhh. Got them confused. Long click on the written note in app and select delete. Alternatively, open the note and select trash can.
Thanks - you got me on the right track.
For anyone else that might come across this thread, when using Richnote, the excellent LG-supplied app that you can open-up on top of other apps, there is no way to access the ability to delete or share your Richnote files unless you maximize the app. When the app opens in its default window size, the app does not offer any of these functions. I just had to explore a bit to figure this out!
I just noticed my backspace button on calculator doesn't work in window mode after adjusting transparency. Nothing works on it partially transparent, and backspace won't work at all after unless I maximize and minimize. Can you test yours?

Ditto on my Verizon model.
I like Quick Memo the best. The ability to draw on the screen and save snapshots is great.
I prefer Richnote widget so I can draw, text, attach, ect for more purposeful things. Use notebook when I get involved. Quickmemo for fast on screen draws right from home button. I use and like all three.
ok I came here because it looks like the most active forum for rooted NST
I just rooted my nook simple touch today and I am really liking it
so far. I got nookmanager to work and installed the GOOGLE apps, opera mobile and button savior and everthing is working
in fact I am using it now.
so far my only gripes besides the slow screen
(which I knew of) are the keyboard is hard to work with
and lacks autocorrect, no easy app switching and
lack of an easy way to switch to landscape display mode.
I know there are other keyboards that can be installed
so I will try those out a little later.
Right now I am most concerned with the screen rotation.
I like to do some things in landscape mode - especally web browsing since many pages are optimized for wider screens.
I am aware the nst lacks an actual orientation sensor but I would like a floating button like button savior provides that would let me select portait or landscape. I did quite a bit of Googling but turned up with nothing.
Does anyone with experience with the nook have any ideas?
Thank you

Well, I can't give you exactly what you're looking for, but I can share a tip.
The .apk file below is the installable app that I use to switch my orientation. I like it because it's minimalistic, and because landscape mode sticks in ALL apps, including B&N. To make an always-available toggle, use Nook Touch Mod Manager (which came pre-installed with NookManager), and make the Screen Rotation Control app launch from whatever button you like. I have it set to launch from long-pressing my top right hardware button, which, of course, is always available.
Let me know how it goes!
P.S. I included my favorite keyboard just for fun, so I'd highly recommend it!

Ah. Here's how to fix that:
Get NookColor Tools if you haven't already. Here's the thread: [APP]NookColor Tools
Install the Hacker's Keyboard.
Then, go into /data/app and find the corresponding file (it will have the "Esc" icon on it).
Copy that file into /system/app.
Reboot your Nook.
Open NookColor Tools and select "Choose Keyboard". Then select "Hacker's Keyboard".
You're done! :good:

That'd work, but it is still more handy to have it assigned to a key. Less taps, you know?
I'm working on making the soft status bar "menu" icon into a lock-rotation icon, and then I'm going to assign Screen Rotation Control to it. I'll put the update in my Cool status bar modification thread found in my signature.

Actually, this isn't the same thing. I'd be glad to tell you what DOES work, though!
First thing to do is what is in that post, but then you have to follow these steps, too:
1. Open ES File Explorer.
2. Open the side menu (the icon is near the top right corner; it looks like a phone and a globe).
3. Scroll down till you see the option "Show Hidden Files".
4. Slide/click the slider to the "ON" postition.
5. Close out of ES, restart it, and go to /data. You will see a number of folders there that were hidden before.

EDIT - I'm using ES v3. Strange that it crashes on you.
The first and until about 2 years ago, what I thought was the best file manager was ES file explorer, however since then I've been using Root Explorer and in my opinion is about the best and easiest on the Android platform, no complicated setup or configuration, just click on the top for full r/w access anywhere.

And yes, I have gotten Copy/Paste to work. HOWEVER, it only works if you touch and hold on a text box (with text in it) when it's not selected.

Hard to imagine no autocorrect is worse than having it but it is. Its not because I cannot spell but rather because
I often hit the wrong key on such a small keyboard and it is a pain to back up.
Jellybean keyboard is here: play <dot> google <dot> com/store/apps/details?id=com.jlsoft.inputmethod.latin.jelly.free (Link restriction )
Or I can post an APK

Ah, I see. Makes sense. By the way, there is a setting to turn off key popups (avoid bad ghosting). Click the on-keyboard settings icon, then click "Settings for Hacker's Keyboard". Customize your keyboard there.
Could I please have the APK? I don't have gApps installed on my Nook (by choice).
