Hey guys lurker here finally registering to get some help.
I have a nexus 4 with T-Mobile. I bought it unlocked through Google and have it on the same plan I had my G2 on.
My problem is every time I get into a HSPA area my service just drops. Like completely drops. I cannot even make a call. It will come on then off then on then off. It makes the phone useless. When I'm on edge it's perfectly fine.
I went to T Mobile and got a brand new sim car and that did not help my problem.
Much appreciated any help I can get.
Factory reset first and see what happens.

That happens when the radio on the N4 switches between 3G and HSPA doing a factory reset won't affect the radio. In other words its the carrier coverage in your area. Try Straight Talk with At&t

I've got a Nexus 4 on AT&T and i've got HSPA (no +, i've checked in settings). It seems when my phone switches between towers i lose service until i go in and select AT&T from a list of available networks. On other phones in this area i always have Tmobile and AT&T, but with this one i'm getting two AT&T's. I usually select AT&T, but the last few days i've tried selecting "automatically select network." It doesnt appear to have made any changes. Just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas before i factory reset this bad boy.
Factory reset, reflash of the stock ROM using the nexus toolkit, unroot and custom Roms cm10 and paranoid android. Nothing has helped my issue. I have the LTE plan and the WAP APN gives me hspa+. Still getting a signal drop every time I move more than a mile or so.

Doubt anyone is even watching this, but i called google and the rep says it sounds like a hardware issue. Getting a warranty replacement.

Hey guys, long time lurker infrequent poster. I recently got my nexus (loving it by the way) but there is 1 thing that I have noticed that kind of bugs me. Noticed everytime I'm connected to my data connection my signal bars go down considerably. (No data i get full bars 95%of the time, with hspa or hspa+ im lucky to get even 1) This will happen whether i disable my data in the settings, or connect to wifi.
I am kind of new to the whole unlocked device idea having to add the APN settings and what not, and I definitely did not have this problem with my last two devices. (Galaxy S i9000, Galaxy Nexus) if anyone has some insight that'd be great, I'm going to head down to my carrier store tomorrow, to see if they might be able to help me ( chances are probably not they're pretty useless)

Are you using a new carrier, for you? T-mobile maybe? Are you indoors?
The nexus 4 generally has very good reception, unless their is so,ethi g wrong with the device.
If your a new t-mobile customer building penetration can be low compared to other carriers.
Outside, inside, happens everywhere. And I'm on Bell. Same plan, same carrier as my last two phones.

I noticed some issues as well, but only on custom ROMs. My only conclusion is that it was something with the APN. I googled and found some APN settings to try, which has really helped me. For me, it was mostly with 3g to hspa switching, it'd toggle back and forth and would time data out. Since I've changed those, works much better. I'm on T-Mobile though.

Hello,
I have a Nexus 4, my carrier is Telus. I have had my phone for 3 weeks now. When I first got it, I used the *#*#4636#*#* trick to get LTE on my phone. It worked great! According to speed test I was getting 27mbps download, whereas on HSPA+ i got 7mbps.
In the last two days, for some reason my phone will not work on the LTE network. I get full bars but they are grey. Also, when the connection used to work, there would be flashing up and down arrows on the signal bars. Now, there is only a flashing up arrow (no down arrow).
I called telus tech support and had them reset the connection to my phone, I also bought a new micro sim card, neither worked.
I do not require LTE by any means, but it is disappointing that I cannot figure this out. Has anyone had a similar problem? I spent the last few days checking other posts and there doesn't seem to be anything similar posted. If there is, I apologize, I am a noob, and I watched the noob video.
Take care

Hey there. Fell Canadian (and TELUS customer) here. I live in British Columbia, and I just checked my LTE and it seems to be working. Are you using a custom ROM? What Baseband version do you have? I'm on M9615A 2.0.1700.33. Hope this helps.

I am in Toronto. I told google that my device makes a buzzing noise (which it does) and they are sending me a replacement. Hopefully the new phone won't have the same connectivity issues.
Did you try changing your APN settings? I know for Rogers customers, there is a specific/different APN to use when you want to use their LTE network on your Nexus 4.
does it work without LTE? if you go back into the settings and change it back to the default, does it work on HSPA+ or 3g?
My LTE works, and is really really fast. download is about 90mbits/s and upload is about 75. I am in Barrie Ontario, on Koodo.
However, the speedtest app will not work, no matter what I do. So I have to use some other crappy app. Anyone else?
So I've been having this problem for a while now. I've tried contacting T-Mobile about it but they've been completely useless. Basically, I'll lose service randomly and it won't come back for hours (sometimes it'll be gone the whole day). And I mean I can't make a phone call type of lose service. I live in a semi rural area, but there are still plenty of areas that have HSPA/HSPA+. I've tried new SIM cards, going back to complete stock ROM, no root. I'm at a loss at this point. Has anyone had this problem? If anyone cares, I'm currently on PA 3.15, .48 radio and latest boot loader.
Edit: Stock APN settings as well. And when I go to choose a network operator, both T-Mobile and AT&T show up, so I assume it's picking up some sort of signal, it just doesn't want to connect...

I get this sometimes. Sometimes a power off/on works. Other times it doesn't. It's never been for hours, only about 10-15 minutes total but it's really unnerving because it could happen at the worst possible moment. I think I've had this happen to me 3 times since I got my N4.
Would it comfort you to know that its not a error on your part but rather T-Mobile's?

Haha! I figured it was, just seeing if anyone had heard anything from T-Mobile about it or if there was a fix. Thinking of switching to AT&T because of this tbh

Yea I'll constantly lose signal and that normally works but occasionally I'll get it to where nothing works and I'm stuck with a paperweight for the rest of the day (today being one of those unfortunate days)

Do you know anything more than that? Is this some sort of handshake issue between our radio and their cell towers? My wife is on T-Mobile and she doesn't have the issue so I presumed it was my phone.

I was having this issue as well. I would lose service for hours at a time on random days for like a month and a half. I found out that they were doing tower upgrades to get lte up and running (I'm in the north jersey/NYC area). Now my service is alot stronger and rarely ever lose service.

Thinking I might try to get a replacement phone actually. My roommate has a nexus 4 as well and he's had no problems whatsoever. Hmm... the plot thickens...

I've been having the same issue with both the original and replacement phone. I've changed SIM card too, it still happens. Each times it lasts for a few hours before starting receive signal again. So you are definitely not alone here.

Yea it sucks but it's definitely nice to know it's not just me. Too bad T-Mobile and Google just point fingers at each other as opposed to finding an actual solution...

Update: So I went ahead with an RMA and already I think I made the right choice. I'm getting 3-4 bars of H+ in my living room where I used to struggle to get a bar of 3G. So, I apologize to anyone who thought this was a waste of a thread and just cluttered up the N4 forums (God knows this forum needs to get decluttered), but if my experience helps at least one person out, then I guess it wasn't such a waste after all. Moral of the story, if your signal sucks just get it over with and go through an RMA (Google made it super easy and painless):good:
Hello xda!
Okay, so I seem to have some very very bad issue with my brand new Nexus 4. It is currently on the latest JDQ39 radio, unlocked and rooted. So here''s where the actual issue lies.
So to make it a long story short, I bought the $30 prepaid plan on the walmart website. You know, called up T-Mobile activated it, plugged in my SIM card and all, I dial #BAL# and everything's how it should be! BUT.. I decide to send a text to inform a friend of my new number (coming from US Cellular) and it takes a good long while for it to actually send.. about 2 minutes.. I think to myself," Something's wrong.." so I decide to call a random person to make sure I've got my service. It says dialing, then "Call ended" every single time! Can anyone tell me if it's an APN Issue? Or what do I do! I am panicking! I need to have service..!!! My signal strength is -91dBm and 8 asu
It's set to WCDMA preferred, and I'm honestly lost and helpless.. HELP PLEASE!
I've also restored my stock nandroid!
Bump..

They put up a ticket, refreshed me on their tower, reconnected and disconnected, still not working. The only workaround was to use 2G only instead of actually taking advantage of the HSPA+ data. It bothers me but at least it works..

Try calling 1-877-789-3106. This is the T-Mobile porting department. I had a delay of 3 days trying to port my number from Verizon to T-Mobile. I called this number, and they were able resolve the issue right away.
Although the rep said it could take 24 hrs, I got a text msg that my number had been activated on T-Mobile as I was ending the call.
BTW, I am very happy that I switched! $30/month for 5GB of 4G data!

No clues how to fix it..

My friend recently had an issue with his 4g cutting out. Airplane mode being toggled on and off seem to bring it back, but only for a short amount of time. Finally found a thread on VZW forum of people having the same issue. I'll link to it when I find it again...
Come to find out it was the sim card. Got a replacement and had solid 4g with no cut outs. Unfortunately my friends G2 screen died the next day so he couldn't reap the benefits lol

Hey guys- I'm having this same issue, on my D801 with CM10.2 and DarkPA (tried both). Started yesterday evening - my phone automatically switches back to GSM/WCDMA preferred no matter what I pick. It's only picking up 3G/H+. I'm in the Chicago area.
I called TMobile and they gave me some BS about it being my tower, but also software issue, etc etc. The guy was just saying things. Still no luck. I am going to go to the TMo store today to see if a new SIM card will fix it.
EDIT: Turns out the cell tower near me is just being strange. I can walk down the street and get LTE, but when I walk towards my apartment the LTE dies and switches to 3G/H+. Weird.
Hi, thanks for replies. I got my 4G overtime. Happened to my brother as well. He waited 2 weeks before getting 4G. And btw, is H H+?
