Maybe it is an upgrade, but maybe the phone can last a little longer using a fast ROM like Beautiful ICS which is Best ROM for ICS i ever tried and then upgrade to an even better phone later

i love it, had it about 4 months its pretty solid, battery is good, dual sim is a nice to have,
im hoping to try an mhl adapter and bluetooth kb&Mouse
the screens great, it IS big, love gaming on it, i have had a couple of crashes (but then vlc is on beta)
ive just played minecraft on it for a several hours. xplane is good on it, im now green eyed on the 950 "phablet" larger screen,
(clarkson Moment) more power!

I usually only buy from known manufacturers. A bit more cash goes a long way, especially for warranties and so on.
Off topic: Lol you actually watch top gear.

i hv one also. this surprise me at the quality of the phone which is produced by a not well-known manufacturer. it is really good and very stable. one thing to care about is the charging time is a little bit longer. it takes you about 6 hrs to charge from 0% to full for that 2300mah battery. you should get a 1g ram version for a better experience.
my ordinary phone is xperia neo.
I have one and I think it is great. Running a custom rom from a Spanish developer. Just an FYI, htc was unknown a few years ago, although they built lots of pda for companies and others.

Sony Xperia Arc: vs Samsung Galaxy S2
I'm really interested in the Arc due to the fact it has Autofocus/Hdmi/Takes excellent pictures in low light plus great pictures in general. The Video is very smooth/clear. You can run mutiple apps without lag. It comes loaded with 2.3. Must important of all it has clear/loud/incredible sound whether using the media player or talking on the phone or using the speaker phone. It has a great screen with vivid colors.
Just because its a single core processor does not make it slow. This is the same processor that the Desire HD uses.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that the Samsung S2 is not a good phone.
Here are my thoughts
-Dual core processors are brand new(1st generation)
-it will take awhile for them to prove themselves
-how long will updates take
-it will take awhile for developers to develop games/apps for dual core phones
-not everyone needs or uses the power of dual-core processor
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day I want a phone that I can clearly talk on/play the odd game/listen to music. Play utube stuff/watch videos without lag/surf the internet the odd time/take some picts/odd video.
Im not into heavy graphics/rpg games/editing movies or pictures.
I believe that Arc can do all the above and more.
To me Dual core is overkill for me for now. Besides at the end of the year we'll have Quad Core phones.
Tell me your honest opinions on the Arc/Vs Samsung Galaxy S2.
Thanks
Joplin
For me is just easy, if heavy for game play, I go for Xperia Play. If not, I go for Xperia Arc.
Because I hate the out shape design of the Galaxy S, it's too similar to iPhone, even the UI.
Arc out shape design is too great!!

Gaming is fine on Arc, too. The screen is more than huge enough to support gaming via touch.
As for topic, I'd go for Arc, considering as you said, dualcore won't matter for at least next 2-3 quartals, and even not then as well.
It's a experimental area, phones don't really need dual core stuff just yet imo.
In the end it's not about what people tell you
It's about what you want
For me i'm going with Arc, it has everything I want in it

Well some people are actually genuinely unbiased.
It's just a mobile phone, also, strictly speaking, you'll milk more out of Arc than SG2 with your money for the time being. But on the end, everything falls down to preference. Dual-core won't make that much difference for the time being, plus I'd imagine it rapes your battery life faster. On another side, SG2, if the dual-core CPU actually matters much, is the smarter choice here. Again, proving my point that personal preference is all, I've seen some people picking up inferior phones just because of brand or it's looks ( cough cough iPhone )
Pick what you like, is the best answer you can get on these forums.
I appreciate all the positive feedback.
Thanks

Just throwing my .02 in... I'm returning my Atrix within the next week or so due to Motorola locking down the bootloader and Designgears calling it a lost cause... but I figured I'd just throw it out there that the Atrix with the Tegra 2 (dual core) CRUSHES any other phone I've EVER owned in the last 6 years on the battery life. If the bootloader wasn't signed I'd drop Cyanogenmod 7 onto it and be a happy camper for the next 2 years (Tegra 3... mmmmm...)

Hmm, the battery life thing is interesting, a man would expect it to drain more power ._.
I believe that dual core processors are more power efficient because they each run at lower clock speeds, and therefore lower heat.. and therefore use less battery!
Ah, fair point. Guess I'm just dumb today

The fact you cannot get rid of Sony Ericsson's ugly blues theme makes it pretty underwhelming. Sexy phone but ruined again by SE. I was set to buy it but after learning there is no way around the iPhone-esque lockedness I would just get SGS2. If I want a locked experience I have the iPhone 4 for that. No need to settle for same thing again.

if u want power along with beauty go for Samsung Galaxy S2 (the best phone available right now)... latest hardware shouldnt be outdated for another 10-12 months... btw some of the TOP devs at XDA are already working on SGS2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1058
lg 2x (aka G2x) has got good hardware but they have wasted a lot of space on the handset design... i have tested it and the display/screen is only 4'' but the whole device feels unnecessarily bulky/big almost as big as the 4.3'' ones... the touch sensitive buttons are not really very sensitive and require a little fiddling to get them to work (especially HOME button)...
if u just want to go for the looks of the Arc only then buy it... already outdated hardware... it is already 8-10 months old (MSM7230/QSD8255)...

1 second faster?? lol
Where are you getting these numbers?
Also, 1 second of speed for a cpu makes a hell of a difference, one second of lag vs. one second of no lag.
It is 2-3 times more powerful and has at least double the quadrant score and linpack.
The cpu/gpu is a current gen vs. an outdated one.
You can think whatever you want, but electronics is my job/field.
The sgs2 is far more advanced than the arc.

It wasn't bad, but they pushed off releasing it so far that by then it was falling behind, especially with the version of android.
Then they release their new batch of phones, a full generation behind what the technology is shifting to.
I love my x10 still, but I'm definitely not impressed with SE's latest offerings. They're going to have to do/release something major to get me to buy an SE phone for my next phone

My wife just got a GS2 and after setting it up and playing around with it for a few days I'm convinced the two are fairly similar in use.
Sure the GS2 is a bit faster when multitasking but day to day use is to me almost the same.
That said I'm happy to hold off for newer design when it comes as jvq on GS1 with ext4 does it all only on a slightly smaller screen.
Battery life is comparable.
Browser is almost identical in speed.
Gmail a slight bit slower.
Phone call quality is on par.
Music player... Sounds great with both running voodoo app.
Just wish it had a flash for camera but still takes amazing pics for 5mp.

Thank God the SGS2 wasn't released the 14th as I believed, because I would have bought one. I think my SGS1 does the job very well and it would be stupid to buy it. All that "must get better phone" non sense... I'll leave that for the iPhone users
I will install CM7 soon and will forget the thought of buying this phone.
SGS 1 is better then SGS2 about the battery cover and other important parts.
I would like the RGB screen in SGS2 (compared to pentile on SGS) but other than that I'm not really clamouring for any of the other features. Maybe the RAM would be nice, but the dual-core and 8MP/1080p camera don't seem that big of a deal.
The clincher for me to upgrade would be a higher resolution, 960x540 would be nice at 4.5", and a more powerful GPU to go with it. I feel like future games will run out of GPU before they max out the CPU, maybe I am wrong.
One thing that many reviews don't really consider is what about SD speed? I find myself wishing the SD card were faster when doing many tasks like transferring files via USB, installing/updating applications, etc... I may have seen something about improved SD speed in the SGS2 but I can't recall exactly.
In the end I would be very happy to win one for free in the Bell contest, but for my own money I will hold off until at least the next flagship release. I shouldn't really be dropping $500+ on new phones every year and I have no regrets about the SGS, it seems like it will have good longevity especially in the GPU department.

Agree with the screen and the ram, the SGS2 is a multitasking god.
It rarely kills apps which most of the time makes it seem like its faster because it never has to relaunch anything

Hey dude
The one thing I miss from sgs is an led flash.
Optimus 2x has that.
But optimus has a lcd screen, where sgs is oled.
Because oled has no back light, if you use a dark theme, you can get so much more battery use with the display on with oled phones than with lcd phones.
I'd never buy an lcd phone again, but I do miss having a camera flash on the sgs.
Depends what's more important to you.

Anyone suggests worth buying Xperia Mini (not x10 mini) over the X10i, ignore the size of screen, apart from that its much cheaper and seems like everything may be more than x10i.
thanks
There is tons of development.
Plus they hacked true multitouch.
The mini has a lot going on

xperia mini, seems like the same processor as Arc, and lot of stuff and right true multi touch not dual touch....
was wondering anyone used it...

I'm using a phone with the same cpu/gpu and believe me that phone will destroy the x10 in every way.
You will realize how badly the x10 lags once you try that out

Just in general..
Even at it's fastest the x10 is very laggy.
The battery life can't possibly be worse than x10 lol

LOL on x10i battery life... agreed, can't be worse than that...
gutted that i lost my x10i as i eventually found a combination of wb6 rom and addons to make it as fast as possible and good battery life...
but i guess i shud go for xperia mini now...
stupid of SE to name it so similar and just loose the x10... even many searches on amazon or review sites bring x10 mini when you type for xperia mini... two totally different phones altogether, could be xperia mini 2..

You get 1ghz scorpion cpu "just as the arc"
And a adremo 205 gpu "just as the arc"
Multitouch
where as the x10i has 1ghz snapdragon and a adreno 200 gpu.. the 205 gpu is 4 to 5 times faster..

There is a difference of a year in technology. No one in right mind will even think to compare both lol.
Just like you don't expect your Incredible S to be as good as SGS II jk

Oh for sure!
I don't claim it to be at all.
It's in the same category as the arc, etc...
Still I traded my x10 for it,good upgrade I think.
I can save my real contract upgrade for when something mindblowing comes out.
I know a Guy bought mini and sold his x10 and he is very happy with doomkernel 1.9 Ghz
All latest gameloft games like 9mm officially supported and my favorite asphalt 6 works on it...

I am wondring if I should buy the Xperia arc S now, or should I wait for the next generation in this price range.
What do you think?
Really. THERE LIKE 100 people making the exact threads everyday.
Can't you search for someone asking the same question???
It may be an old threads ...
Yes :-
1-Clear display
2-HDMI
3-Awesome speaker
4-sexy design
5-The Best camera phone. (not better than xperia s)
6-Will recive ICS update officially.
7-good battery life
8-noise cancelling mic
No:-
1- Became Old cause most of new android devices are dual core and quad.
2-Lags alot with ICS .
3-Not good for HD games even when using GB.
4-Overheat from the back when playing games or surfing the web using DATA.
5-when you speak the other side (who listing to you) will hear your voice repeated specially when using the speaker.
6-Less custom roms ( seriously that's why i started making my own roms) than Galaxy or htc users.
*So it depends on you whether you wants high performance device for gaming and fast picture shooting or not .
Don't do it.
It's too old

I want to break some myths about the Xperia S. The screen is .1 inches bigger but the phone is massively bigger due to the screen bezel and the antenna design and does not feel good in hand. The material feels quite cheap for some reason. The Arc isnt a solid phone but feels more solid and is thinner and lighter. I have been using one form of ICS or another since December with Arc (not S) and its as stable and fast as it ever was with GB. The official ICS ROM will make for even better custom ROMs. The camera is marginally better on the S but is not the best by 2012 standards. I hate the feel of capacitive buttons on the S but I guess ICS on screen buttons would take care of that.
The Arc S is a good phone for its current price but I expect development to slow down in a few more months as more and more developers are upgrading hardware. The One X and the One S is definitely the bar right now. The screens, construction, processors and camera are all the best on the market. I have Sony everything so its hard for me to exit the brand so I'm keeping my Arc for one more year but for others, the One is the upgrade for 2012.
I have played with all of the phones above and Arc overclocked feels the same as S.
One S is better in almost every way vs Xperia S. The feel in hand to the performance. The construction is superb aircraft grade aluminum treated to a very nice finish. The only thing you'll miss is NFC but its still not mainstream with enough practical applications right now (it takes two hands to clap). The super AMOLED is not an issue coming from a lower resolution Arc and is a superb screen despite reviews.
One X is hands down the best phone I have ever played with. There are only two things inferior to the One S and thats battery and finish. Its still gorilla glassed front with ultra high impact-resisting polycarbonate, which is very strong and solid but something about that black aluminum magic is so sexy about the One S.
Either get one of the Ones or Arc S. I cant recommend the Xperia S to anyone.

I didn't want to say get the (htc one x) so the people in this forum doesn't think that i support htc or whatever ... otherwise wait for galaxy s3
I recomend if you still want to buy an arc then get a used one ... so you don't lose too much when you replace it with another phone later .

I strongly disagree with this point. With the final update, it will be at least as smooth as GB if not faster. The ICS beta is laggy because of the incomplete/unoptimized 2D acceleration implementation.

I strongly disagree with most of your points.
1. It depends on what you really need and fit best your needs.
2. You can't even know because there is no official ICS yet.
3. Well it is good enough for HD games. Name one, which doesn't run smooth? I can play GTAIII and MC3 smooth (I don't need anymore ).
4. Every phone heats, you just feel it a little bit more because of the thinness. GS2 users whine about that too.
5. Surely not with normal mic, and for the speaker, I personally don't know any device, which has really good speakers.
6. Less custom ROMs? In Samsung and HTC forums there are only more ROMs, because 80% are stock-based. Do you really need that?
@OP: As I said it depends on what you really need. I am very happy with my Arc S.
BTW: Next time you could search and post your question in Q&A.

1- Agree maybe i should wait then judge the Arc s with the official ICS hoping it will become better .
2-GTAIII is playable but with few glitches ...
* I used to be happy with my arc but not after i saw the benchmarking of GSII ... And the face unlocking on ICS .
I'd say Arc S is one of the best phones in that price range. I admit the processor and GPU are kinda crappy, but it's still capable of running HD games(such as Asphalt 6, MC3, GTA3 etc.) without noticable lag!
Arc has a lot of custom roms. Phones like i9000 has more roms, but why do we need hundreds of different roms, because we all know that only some of them are good!
One thing I really love in my Arc is the screen! It's large enough(Frankly, I think larger would be too big), it has good resolution, and it hard to damage(it is more scratch-resistant than ie. Gorilla Glass).
And don't you say ICS is laggy! They haven't even released the final build! I believe Arc has a good potential of running ICS.

1. I am sure Sony won't release some laggy ****. We should be way more happy with Sony for even releasing a alpha/beta version.
2. IMO, It depends on the ROM. I haven't had any on CM7 and stock based ROM like Arconium.
But still it hasn't enough RAM, apps need more and more RAM.

if u wanna a phone, a good looking phone, with good call quality, camera and sound yes u should, but don't expect it to do any heavy lifting like crazy multitasking or graphic intence gaming..
well,i sold my HTC Evo 3D two days ago and iam using my old Arc For now.
coming from Evo i feel some lag in games but homescreen feels same.overall i dont see much difference in performance(i mean real life performance not benchmarks) but if you are a power user dont get this if you want a overall good smartphone with good camera Arc is pretty cheap now.go for it
