From the testing status, I'll take your word for it!
Still so long?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I don't care that it takes so long but I do care that it takes so long for a leak to spread I mean, the Razr M and the Razr HD both got leaks but we didn't yet I wanna test a leak!
This phone will fly with jelly bean so much faster then my gnex already.

The Razr HD will receive JB next week. I would want to know why the razr i seems neglected.
I suppose that's because of the Intel architecture.
I suppose it's because it's less aggresevily marketed then the Razr M and HD so they don't have to speed things up. Either that or Verizon pays a lot to Motorola to speed things up for the M and HD.

London underground has hundreds of posters for this phone so advertising in the uk aggressive. Intel have to port the android sdk to x86 then test then release. Also hope they are working on 4.1.2 not 4.2 as that sucks and inbuilt toggles are a joke

This is done since a long time for android 4.1.x
Intel released the x86 stuff for android 4.1 in septembre.

First of all: like above poster said, Intel already finished porting 4.1.2 right about when the Razr i hit the market. Second of all: UK is not even half as big as USA and outside of the UK there is not that much advertising. So yes, I think it definitely has to do with gigantous advertising of the Razr M and HD in the USA.

There was a big campaign (street and TV adds) here in France when the Razr i can to the market through the operator SFR.
But it last only 1 or 2 weeks
Now the Razr HD is more pushed by the advertisers.
It it very much not in Intel's interests to be seen as the laggard when it comes to Android updates.
If they want to break into the Android handset market in a big way, surely that will be difficult if people perceive that Intel inside = old Android version outside?
Motorola have a poor track record at getting out Android updates, but seem to be pulling their socks up. If Intel stumble and fail to deliver updates for what is only their second Android handset, it would likely have bad consequences.

Again: Intel already has 4.1 out for more than 4 weeks now. It's just Motorola that has to build it for our phone including their own changes. And Intel is currently porting over 4.2 to their arch so they are taking it seriously.
And don't get me started on the fact that Samsung just released a new phone with ICS even though 4.1 and 4.2 are already out.
Does anyone think that the RAZR i will get 4.2?

4.2 is pretty much the same as 4.1 . Some extra features (like the panorama camera) cant work in our phone but i believe that finally we ll have a 4.2 firmware (in about 3-4 months)
After owning 3 other moto phones I kinda got this this phone as is not expecting any updates

Well, 4.1 is coming within a few weeks.
And our phone is capable of the panorama camera from 4.2 but I hope 4.2 doesn't land TBH because IMHO it sucks big time. 4.1 is the best Android yet, 4.2 brings stuff I don't want (like those annoying lockscreen widgets for example).

im excited for the panorama camera but i reckon the lockscreen widgets will be rather interesting, and im sure(considering it is android) that the developers will make the widgets optional so they shouldnt be an issue anyway!

So far they havent released minimum specs, some sites speculate since its based on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core CPU that it will be the minimum. But a phone can dream.
The question is, if 3.0 is tablet based then what is the next update for smartphones? Surely not Ice Cream Sandwich? Tablet OS should work on smart phones otherwise they should use a different numbering system. Kinda getting ahead of myself since the x10 wont get as much as 2.2 officially.

From what I understand regarding 3.0, if the resolution of the screen is above a certain amount (ie a Tablet) then it will have the new UI and but if the resolution is smaller (ie a phone) then the UI will remain the same.
In this article on the german smartphone site areamobile.de, they say, that Honeycomb will stay a tablet-only OS in the near future.
But later this can change since they want to reunite the Android versions in the long term.
You could try Google translate if you're interested in the article

Considering the fact that I haven't used 2.1 since mid December and now currently running a stable 2.3 I'd say that no more updates is a little exaggerated. It's not about running it better than ICS, it's about game compatibility with the touchpads and the overall gaming experience compared to Gingerbread.
Hence why they didn't update to ICS in the first place, It's extremely unlikely that we will get Jelly Bean or anything else as a matter of fact tbh. The only way we can get Jelly Bean is by porting but gaming will always be a problem with roms from ICS onwards.

Yeah, I would agree with your point, ICS performance-wise is no doubt far better than Gingerbread (not to mention Jelly Bean), but I don't see it in the last ICS Beta on my Xperia Play ... the reason being ... may be lack of good driver support, if there's no official driver support, and Sony just expect hack work from the XDA community can resolve this issue they are too cheap-skate ... no offends, I think the open-source initiative is pure good, but official support is crucial too ...

I think yes. It's cheaper and easier to use the same code.
Consider we're talking about motorola. That UI is for OMAP devices and Atrix isn't equipped with OMAP. We'll see all together.
I doubt the UI will be different just because the processor is. With it so deblurred, you gotta wonder why they even bother redoing any part of it. They can just include the bloat they want as apps without messing with the framework. Maybe the carriers are insisting on crippling some features.
Code is written in high level programming language like C++.

Its the same case as why the Photon and Atrix got a different, uglier and sluggish Blur instead of the one that came with all the Motorola phones equipped with OMAP4 chips.
Heck, the ICS Blur we see on our Atrix might even be the original ugly Android4 blur that is available for download everywhere.

Agreed.
Heck the launcher on the initial Froyo builds was so much more faster!
And then the rest of the Motorola phones comes out, and guess what ? Atrix is suddenly sluggish? I mean seriously?
I actually complained about screen switching being TOO fast on the Froyo build lol... ooops.
GB update was weird for me, it worked GREAT for a long time, then it started getting buggy and sluggish, I factory reset it like 4 times with new blur accounts etc, and nothing helped, finally rom'd it the other day and couldn't be happier..

If reports are correct (that Webtop has been replaced with tablet mode plus some candy), then the only solution that is rational is to run a headless Linux disttro and RDC into it.
Even if all the bits of code needed to spin up X are opensource, it is going to be a huge pain for somebody to port it over to ICS. And some items (such as the kernel mod that mux's inputs to both X and 'droid) I do not beleive are avaiable.
Using an RDC aproach makes it is fairly easy to put a distro of your choice on the Atrix though, so that is a plus.
To me the question would be if I was to use a full screen RDC to an 'ux desktop, or just bring up a window to the app that I want. Really need to see how it all plays after we get the real Tegra drivers for ICS out.

As you can see in another thread (OMAP 3630/3620/3610 and Ice Cream Sandwich), other companies have been capable of making phones with ICS that have hardware equivalent to Defy+.
The new Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside brings some light (minute #36)
"We know that keeping current on the latest Android Operating System is important to all of our users.
We will upgrade most of our devices that were launched since 2011 to Jelly Bean very soon, but there are a small number of devices which can't be upgraded without degrading the phone performance.
So for those owners, we'll offer a $100 credit with the purchase of any device we unveil today."

I really appreciate their efforts to bring the upgrades, fair enough when phones with great hardware such as
Milestone 3 (dual core Cortex-A9) would otherwise "remain on Android 2.3" (https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c).
The question is: can Defy+ handle something better than Gingerbread without degrading the phone performance?
Sure it can. CM10 by quarx+ custom kernel = better than any motorola stock bull****
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
I followed every build of Quarx's CM10 and found it great. I had one recurring issue where the phone would sometimes not wake up. It would take up to an hour to wake up and I would usually just pull the battery. Also many games were slow.
I recently reinstalled CM7.2 and feel like I have a new phone. Of course it depends how many apps you are running and whatnot. No more lag though and games are fast. From my experience, going to Jellybean is hard on the Defy and it really starts to show its hardware limitations.
Well that's not true. Yes there are issues with ram consumption and delayed app starts but its not even in an rc stage yet. Nightlies are meant to have problems. And the speed in which superdev quarx is correcting them is madness!!
As for me, I've been using the jelly build since the first usable nightly, and its going well till now. Risks involved but well that's part of the fun
My bet on the op is defy plus users will get a tap on their back and a lollipop(maybe)

Well you kinda confirmed it true with this statement
It may end up being faster than cm7.2, but none of us know if it will or not. I can only speak for right now. Nobody knows if the slow down is bugs or just the limits of the hardware, though I suspect on a dual core handset it would run pretty snappy.
For now it's slower but Quarx's progress is superb.

Nope. With minimal gapps the ROM is fast as hell! Using full gapps clogs the system partition causing lag. With proper management of hwa use and a bit of overclocking cm10 blows cm7 away!

You won't get either, unless you're on version wireless, you'll get the 100$. I don't see it other way... I can only laugh when I see the developer edition of the mobiles... to whom will you develop to? The rest of the users cannot use the kernels you develop!
Sadly, Defy+ gets nothing.
Motorola lists phones that won't get Jelly Bean, offers $100 credit to buy a phone that will
Back in September, Motorola Mobility announced that some of its handsets from 2011 and later wouldn't be making the jump to Jelly Bean. In an effort to smooth things over with exiled customers, the company pledged that it would offer a $100 rebate to those who trade up to a select Motorola smartphone. Today, the Google-owned Android maker has released a list detailing which phones qualify for this promotion. If you're among the many who purchased a Droid 3, Droid X2 and Photon 4G, it looks like an official update to Android 4.1 is out of the question. It should be noted that this offer doesn't affect your wireless contract's terms and conditions (read: ETF may still apply). However, if you're just aching to pick up a Motorola phone that released in 2012, then why not score a $100 credit for your troubles? Move past the break to see which other devices made didn't make the cut.

I have one small worry though. 4.3 is expected in the coming weeks, and the Z1 goes live tomorrow, so we're now third in place for future updates. Kinda sucks don't you think?

Sponsoring by Nestlé? Seriously? This has to be a joke.

Take a break dude, have a kitkat

It's even on the website of Nestlé: http://www.nestle.com/media/newsandfeatures/google-nestle-announce-android-kitkat
I'm not using those ridiculous names anyway. Android 4.0, Android 4.1, Android 4.2, etc. is much easier and shows immediately which one comes first. Android 4.1 and 4.2 even have the same name.
Kk (kitkat) as u say bro.

Well .. only has fans in the USA i reckon
No bother to me at all, I never refer to the updates as sweets anyhoo, I'll be sticking to 4.2, 4.4 etc
So I wrote an article about 4.4 link is here
But Cliff notes
It killing time so more people can get off 2.x
Its here to appease those Nexus, AOSP, and Google edition Users hoping for a major release this year
Positive press for Nestle and Google
All because 5.0 is going to get them bad press again because its going to be too powerful rendering many devices unable to upgrade to it
"It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody."
Everybody hm...My guess is, that KK will be optimized more than we might expect. Obviously not everybody has a high end device. You CANNOT fully enjoy android 4.X on a low/mid spec phone. It gets the job done, but is nowhere near the experience you get on a high end phone. Hell, 4.X is often / laggy on quadcore phones with 2 gigs of ram. I believe that we can expect a big performance jump on every phone.
And i'd take KitKat over "key lime pie" everyday.

High-five brother :highfive::highfive::highfive::highfive::highfive:
I was wondering the same thing. Google isn't looking to make Android for performance-driven devices only. The the sucky part is that OEMs aren't going to update older phones with the new software. Mainly because the hardware is outdated and not supported, like say a TI OMAP chipset and Tegra 2. I'm pretty sure Xperia S owners are going to start cribbing about this in a few months too. Bringing Android to everyone is a forward looking statement where new devices, both low-end and high-performance, will be able to run the OS smoothly.

I wouldnt be sure about that. Sale of mobile phones is on its best in the first five/six months, then it decreases. Mobile phones being over 1 year old are commonly taken as sold out and you hardly get it in any mobile network offer. For SONY and other brands those phones are not money-makers and no one will provide updates for them, its not cruelty its just economy. Another aspect is that if they do so i mean update older phones they will definitely lose some clients for new ones, its like im not going to but expensive new one cause there is no difference in buying cheaper: same software, apps, other features. Economy is a keyword for updates, most of older devices are capable of running newer software enough smoothly.

Thats what I live about the Sony threads, no-one has an idea, but everybodys talkin' gibberish
Nothing against people bringing in.ideas or such, but the bull that's going on.mostly, what a laugh
Not expecting much changes except maybe the UI and eventually a few bugs removed. It's still a version 4.x

instead of keep improving hardware specs, they should improve the integration between os and hardware more ==
