Now that jb(jelly bean) is officialy announced... - Xperia Play General

JB is announced... It seems to improve performance a lot, so Xperia Play will run it better than ICS...
any one dares to make a port (please)?

Will Jellybean be available officially from Sony for the Xperia Play ?

Our play has been ditched by Sony
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2

google announced jb today so it can take about 1 Jear until Sony says something about it.

https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_7_16gb
Who wants one?!
EDIT: Also, it says Jellybean supports BRAIL ?
How would that be possible?

Did google say anything about the source code yet? Did cyanogenmod made a statement?

Hahaha even Google is trolling with our xperia play

It's not about running it better than ICS, it's about game compatibility with the touchpads and the overall gaming experience compared to Gingerbread.
Hence why they didn't update to ICS in the first place, It's extremely unlikely that we will get Jelly Bean or anything else as a matter of fact tbh. The only way we can get Jelly Bean is by porting but gaming will always be a problem with roms from ICS onwards.

Don't waste your breath. There are tons of threads started about ICS and people try telling them that it has to do with the gaming aspect, not the specs. They won't listen.

I agree that there's so many useless threads which have been created over and over again with people moaning even though its for their own good. Then they wonder why the get insulted and called noobs etc.
Plus some people on this forum are so ungrateful to what we devs give to them and just always complain, You can never win with some people hence why I stopped developing my ICS Rom further with constant posts saying touchpads aren't working blahblah..

There is a 99.9% chance we're not going to get this officially from Sony, on the other hand there is a 0.1% chance we May get it!

Sony got to throw resources into this porting effort

Yeah, I would agree with your point, ICS performance-wise is no doubt far better than Gingerbread (not to mention Jelly Bean), but I don't see it in the last ICS Beta on my Xperia Play ... the reason being ... may be lack of good driver support, if there's no official driver support, and Sony just expect hack work from the XDA community can resolve this issue they are too cheap-skate ... no offends, I think the open-source initiative is pure good, but official support is crucial too ...

So far they havent released minimum specs, some sites speculate since its based on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core CPU that it will be the minimum. But a phone can dream.
The question is, if 3.0 is tablet based then what is the next update for smartphones? Surely not Ice Cream Sandwich? Tablet OS should work on smart phones otherwise they should use a different numbering system. Kinda getting ahead of myself since the x10 wont get as much as 2.2 officially.

From what I understand regarding 3.0, if the resolution of the screen is above a certain amount (ie a Tablet) then it will have the new UI and but if the resolution is smaller (ie a phone) then the UI will remain the same.
In this article on the german smartphone site areamobile.de, they say, that Honeycomb will stay a tablet-only OS in the near future.
But later this can change since they want to reunite the Android versions in the long term.
You could try Google translate if you're interested in the article

Considering the fact that I haven't used 2.1 since mid December and now currently running a stable 2.3 I'd say that no more updates is a little exaggerated. I never said that I expected an official se ROM, that would be a madness comparable to a iPhone user happy with the lack of flash. j & z have provided seemingly miracles in the past and I don't see why they can't again.

people use that garbage?
You are such a goon, why come into threads to complain that people want more out of their device than stock 2.1? Not everyone is a capitalist sheep that will let companies give it to them in the ass..

[idle conversation] no more leaks so far...

Is anyone else becoming increasingly concerned there hasn't been many leaks?
By now I would have expected quite a few more leaks, but there hasn't even been a whisper of another one...
not at all, i would rather stick to a stable GB rom than use the buggy ics leaks
people seem to think ics is magically gonna transform the device...
ICS certainly transforms the device. Going back to Gingerbread from ICS makes you realize how inadequate the former is for such a wonderful device. ICS is silky smooth while Gingerbread feels like watching stop-motion photography. Livewings did such a good job ironing out some of the kinks in the ICS leak that it has become my everyday rom. You couldn't pay me to go back to Gingerbread.
+1 on this.
If you try a ICS build in your Note, and if you can flashe it without getting FC´s and some other errors, you never want to came back to GB again, because the speed and usability is just in another level.
I don't know why there is only one leaked ICS rom for the Note.
It's very strange when we see the SII with many leaked ICS roms and other devices too, but not the Note.
Is the ICS Rom for the Note the biggest secret Rom from Samsung?
The awesome thing is that all leaks are running at 1.2GHz CPU speed and the real one will use 1.4, so it will be even faster!

Personally I've found the relative regularity of frequency of Leaks to indicate solid Dev work..
I feel that the fact that we've had one buggy release, a blown out release date and now "promised' extras make me think that they're not getting much Dev done.
Its common practice to promise more when you've missed your promised release date, in an attempt to "curry favour" with the disaffected customers.
this looks promising, from same forum that leaked the last one

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

This thread discussion is going to be continued in the new Sticky Thread JellyBean Ota
-----THREAD CLOSED-----
Google has inadvertently confirmed that the next version of Android will be called “Jelly Bean” and that it will appear in the new Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ phone.
hough the report lists Jelly Bean as “Android 4.1,” other rumors have said that’s the code-name for Android 5.0. Google is said to be switching strategies for Jelly Bean, allowing multiple manufacturers early access to the OS. Previously, Google had partnered with a single manufacturer to provide a “reference” for other models.
More details about Jelly Bean will likely be announced at Google I/O, the developers’ conference, next week in San Francisco.

we will surely get it on ours notes, hope not so late
Let's see if it is a "new" android version or an enhanced version of ICS (that was an enhanced version of GB)....
Looked around but couldn't find the hardware specs it needs, will the note (still) be able to handle this ??
I know that there are going to be devs playing around with it but if it comes out "original" it will be more reliable in the earlier versions.
Wait and see, i think.

Galaxy Note didn't even get ICS in my opinion, though they label it ICS it is a premium suite as they say, so Note didn't get ICS just got a premium suite which is a faint resemblence to ICS but carries a ton of bugs and issues that can be avoided by not upgrading. Its good to see a new version already coming out and hopefully (fingers crossed) Samsung grabs this chance to fix thier mistake that is ICS for the Galaxy Note
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Since it's Android 4.1 and not 5.0 it clearly means it's a minor upgrade ( meaning that it's "enchenced ICS" ).
I don't see why we wouldn't get it since the current Nexus device has even weaker hardware than Note. The only reason there might be for not getting it - is Samsung's policy. But there's always Cyanogenmod.

When I first took a look at what Samsung did to ICS with their amazing premium suite i was like are we still running GB or is that a kind of joke.
I'm really disappointed by Samsung updates that also take too long to be released.
I just hope this time Samsung will release a real update with great UI and not that TW crap again.

[Official] No Jelly Bean for Xperia Play and Xperia 2011 Range .

John Cooper, UK Product Manager for Sony Mobile, has been taking questions from customers on Facebook and, perhaps inadvertently, revealed that both the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S and Xperia mini pro will not receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
We have been waiting for Sony to make an official statement on their Jelly Bean upgrade plans and this is the first concrete news we have on the matter. The Xperia arc S was the highest specced 2011 Sony Xperia handset, so if this handset isn’t getting it we can conclude that none of the other Xperia handsets from the 2011 range will get the update either. However, the 2012 Xperia range do look likely to get the update, although timing remains an unknown right now.

Not really surprising.
Vendors should be ashamed, JB's announced, out and about, some people are waiting for their official ICS update.
Likelihood is that their will be some semi stable JB ROM's for the Play before some devices get their ICS update.

Leaving all about that the Xperia Play didn't even get ICS, the most impressive of all this is the fact that companies like Sony, HTC, Samsung, etc. make devices that cost about 400-600 € and only give ONE year of updates support. And nobody says anything.

Sony cant do that... The xperia 11 line NEEDS jelly bean. ICS runs awefull even on the arc s. Homescreen transition on arc s with stock 4.0.4 is not "laggy" but the framerate is very low, definetly below 20 fps. If i compare my xperia play on stock gingerbread with my friends stock ics arc s this is a major difference. And jelly bean would fix that, look at the nexus s it has less power than arc s and runs choppy with ics aswell but with jelly bean it is smooth, fps is high. ICS is kinda a beta for jelly bean. Every ics device must have jb. Never Sony again.

Since the Xda community has figured out the Touchpad issue(not Sony) and added it to ICS, I am dying to see if the gaming would come back to us with JB. That would be a smack in the face of Sony and might actually influence people to not buy more Sony devices knowing they wont support.

Sony even don't want to continue on XP2... This line should be ended already..

[Discussion Thread] Android 4.3

As you may know or not there was a found leak yesterday of REAL android 4.3 for the Samsung Galaxy S4 I-9505.
Well how does this relate to us?
Well we all are interested to see the difference in the system.
I thought it would be a good idea to keep a discussion thread just in case someone brings it up and people go off topic.
Some quick info on the firmware:
- A lot of backdoor additions such as the new norm of Low Power Bluetooth support.
- This version is NOT KEY LIME PIE.
- This version has almost no UI changes, but noticeable changes include settings access method in the camera e.t.c
- Some apps have Android 4.3 and even the modem name attached into the description when accessing app info.
- Known to increase benchmark scores by approximately 1800 in Antutu.
- Has a SeLinux button at bottom of About Phone in Settings.

Well only a leak for a phone.
Even Google didn't say a word about it but it is a firmware for a Google Edition phone made by them so it's official.

Even if the performance on Android 4.3 would be better, we would sadly never get it to a state on the Xperia Play so that it can be used as a daily driver. We're not even able to get wifi working on android 4.2!
I don't think anything above 4.1 is worth working on.

for someone that doesnt use phone for gaming even android 10 will be good on xperia play
What about performance?
great
It will be great if we can have a 4.3 roms for XPlay but i think that will kill the gaming performance of the device!!
It is rumored that Android 5.0 will run better on low-end phones than Jelly Bean did.

That would be great but I wish there was some solid proof from Google rather then just rumors

If you mix this rumor with the other rumor that Motorola has some secret new low-spec'd phones coming out, there may be some truth to it. I certainly hope so.
Personally I believe our phone is good enough to run JB. I don't see why it couldn't run Android 5.0 well.
JB performance is impressive and a lot of people don't understand RAM Consumption to a full extent on Android.
I think even 4.2.2 won't do the play any bad.

Hopefully we Kindle will get the 4.3. I wish though JB could work on the R800x although that's a mission impossible.

Check it out Here http://www.sammobile.com/2013/06/28...05-ported-from-google-play-edition-gt-i9505g/
So what's new with 4.3? Any cool new features? And since its been ported for s4 is it possible to port to other phones now? Or still to early?
