Android 4.1 Jelly Bean - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

This thread discussion is going to be continued in the new Sticky Thread JellyBean Ota
-----THREAD CLOSED-----
Google has inadvertently confirmed that the next version of Android will be called “Jelly Bean” and that it will appear in the new Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ phone.
hough the report lists Jelly Bean as “Android 4.1,” other rumors have said that’s the code-name for Android 5.0. Google is said to be switching strategies for Jelly Bean, allowing multiple manufacturers early access to the OS. Previously, Google had partnered with a single manufacturer to provide a “reference” for other models.
More details about Jelly Bean will likely be announced at Google I/O, the developers’ conference, next week in San Francisco.

we will surely get it on ours notes, hope not so late

Let's see if it is a "new" android version or an enhanced version of ICS (that was an enhanced version of GB)....
Looked around but couldn't find the hardware specs it needs, will the note (still) be able to handle this ??
I know that there are going to be devs playing around with it but if it comes out "original" it will be more reliable in the earlier versions.
Wait and see, i think.

Possibly true but we will get Jellybean on one shape or form eg CyanogenMod 10.

I totally agree in referring to the touchwiz version if ics BUT you have to try one of the roms that's pure aosp/aokp/cm9 without Samsung's fingerprints all over the ui and you will see a BIG difference compared to gingerbread!

ICS is an improvement over GB imo. It just needs a few updates to make it better and sorting out some bugs.
GB also needed quite a few updates before it became stable and fast.

All I desire is a fix to all the battery bugs for ICS and I'm perfectly happy with it. Although, to be fair, there isn't much difference between GB and ICS with Samsung's Touchwiz UI plastered all over it.

Galaxy Note didn't even get ICS in my opinion, though they label it ICS it is a premium suite as they say, so Note didn't get ICS just got a premium suite which is a faint resemblence to ICS but carries a ton of bugs and issues that can be avoided by not upgrading. Its good to see a new version already coming out and hopefully (fingers crossed) Samsung grabs this chance to fix thier mistake that is ICS for the Galaxy Note
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

Since it's Android 4.1 and not 5.0 it clearly means it's a minor upgrade ( meaning that it's "enchenced ICS" ).
I don't see why we wouldn't get it since the current Nexus device has even weaker hardware than Note. The only reason there might be for not getting it - is Samsung's policy. But there's always Cyanogenmod.

Totally agree.
When I first took a look at what Samsung did to ICS with their amazing premium suite i was like are we still running GB or is that a kind of joke.
I'm really disappointed by Samsung updates that also take too long to be released.
I just hope this time Samsung will release a real update with great UI and not that TW crap again.

We have the same ROM on BML and MTD. The main reason is that even if we have a larger system partition, we can still not fit bloatware, touchwiz, and ics.
As mkasick has said before, Samsung can change BML and RFS all that they want for an update. They just do not choose to because the Galaxy S 1 should be EOL by now and even if they did do an ics update, it would run pretty slow and be buggy and miss features of toucheiz that the average user likes.

I see the average user as they want an update from thir damn phone so gps works and want a better look, I've asked several people I know who have this phone they don't know anything about rooting, etc... they all pretty much told me they wanted something that works and were all tired of the TW look to it so I say otherwise. Get rid of bloatware its not needed and strip TW away as much as it needs so ICS will operate.
I asked them all about battery life and they told me it doesn't matter as long as a charger is near by there were a few who said I would like longer battery life and pointed them into the rootin process. I surveyed more than 10 people.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Why does it matter if TW is present in the updates Sprint gives us? We're all rooted and have a choice between stock/custom TW or AOSP roms. Sprint is only updating the Epic long enough till they get a new slider that have LTE. I doubt they'll update pass GB, and the value pack would be pushing it. Too much of a hassle for those who like their phone for it's average looks.

Our phone isn't a Nexus brand phone, so bloatware and TouchWiz are mandatory (so to speak) on our phones. No way around it. Sprint/Samsung would never send out an update to a TouchWiz based phone without TW on it. While we here at XDA would love nothing more, it's simply not going to happen. They have to profit some way, some how from all that crap otherwise there wouldn't be a need for it in the first place. And once it's there, from a stock standpoint, it's there to stay.

Now that jb(jelly bean) is officialy announced...

It's not about running it better than ICS, it's about game compatibility with the touchpads and the overall gaming experience compared to Gingerbread.
Hence why they didn't update to ICS in the first place, It's extremely unlikely that we will get Jelly Bean or anything else as a matter of fact tbh. The only way we can get Jelly Bean is by porting but gaming will always be a problem with roms from ICS onwards.

I agree that there's so many useless threads which have been created over and over again with people moaning even though its for their own good. Then they wonder why the get insulted and called noobs etc.
Plus some people on this forum are so ungrateful to what we devs give to them and just always complain, You can never win with some people hence why I stopped developing my ICS Rom further with constant posts saying touchpads aren't working blahblah..

Yeah, I would agree with your point, ICS performance-wise is no doubt far better than Gingerbread (not to mention Jelly Bean), but I don't see it in the last ICS Beta on my Xperia Play ... the reason being ... may be lack of good driver support, if there's no official driver support, and Sony just expect hack work from the XDA community can resolve this issue they are too cheap-skate ... no offends, I think the open-source initiative is pure good, but official support is crucial too ...

BEFORE YOU BUY THE PHOTON (Nexus Slider)...

So, here we all are. Looking for the next big slider phone to move to. The Photon comes along and while some specs are great, overall most people hate the fact that the SIM is locked and that the battery is not removable. Some of us, maybe all, would probably settle for it, because the idea is that another slider will not come for a long period of time. HOWEVER, I just unearthed this article and honestly, I would recommend giving it a month before we all jump ship and buy into the Photon, if that is your plan at least.
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/05/01/google-patent-application-hints-at-nexus-slider/
Although this is NOT a confirmation, it is still in the realm of possibility. It is worth waiting for, before we lock ourselves onto the Photon for 2 years.
Any thoughts/comments/info?
There is some truth to Google bringing out a Nexus slider soon. Google hired the G1 designer duo, they also came up with the design for the Xbox360.
NICE!!!!!! I just sprouted a tremendous woody!!!!
Highly doubtful. I wouldn't hold my breathe. The only logical choice right now for keyboard lovers is the photon. Especially since Motorola released something similar to HTCdev to unlock the boot loader.

My thinking on the Q, is will there be development, more to the point, will it get picked up by CM
A Nexus device will get dev support almost by default.
But the Epic taught me to be careful about my choice in phones, as lack of great development can drop a phone from awesome, to dam, wish I could get that mod.
Those who got the Epic on release day, waited for CM acceptance on the Epic, will understand why I'm a bit gun shy about one-off devices

I found it to mainly happen in low-mem situations... it's a sort of rendering bug, I've to start some apps (i.e. Play Store) to fix it.
P.S.
It's similar to this: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37627
Man you guys are having off the wall issues with jellybean.
Steps I took after the update
1. Download update
2. Let it do its thing
3. Let sit for 10 minutes
4. Reboot into stock android recovery
5. Wipe data 3 times
6. Wipe Cache 3 times
7. Reboot system
8. Let sit for 5-7 minutes
9. Restore Market apps via the Google play store
10. Done
This worked wonders with aftermarket ROMs as well. But it works just as good for the stock ota update.
Proof of concept:

I am a very very very heavy user. Screen time was 3hrs 54mins. This was on the stock ROM and stock battery

I remember the hype for jellybean and those 4 days of non stop checking, but what i think people are letting it get to their head.
We have a 2 year old phone which in the phone world is more like 10 years of developing.
JellyBean is made for higher end, newer phones like gnex and nexus 7. Dual core and quad core processors with 1 gig ram makes a big BIG difference to 1 gig single core with 512mb ram. We think since we have the latest, newest software that we sometimes forget that the phone is turning 3 years old. I LOVE jellybean because it may be the last nexus s update and because google is taking the steps to knock out apple with google now and project butter and even widgets. For google to perfect a jellybean update for the nexus s would be a step back so at least google is keeping their promise with updating us because lets face it. If we didnt get jellybean we couldnt do anything anyway(except buy a gnex).
I visit the nexus 7 thread and few people complain about jellybean being crap.
As for the custom roms... We lost most of our devs to gnex forums and nexus 7 and pretty soon the new nexus.
nexus s rom making has become a hobby for some and gnex roms are the new priority.
Be happy that at least you have the jellybean update on a 3 year old phone.
There's kids in Africa who don't even have phones, or worse, you can be on an s2 with ICS.

Hmmmm....Possibly the recent update some have gotten. Reported to not be JB. Depending on your build some were as high as 75MB. But.....let us know when you install?
thx
Its an update alright but not JB.

75mb?
Stock firmware to LI3 is what that is. JellyBean would be a lot bigger than 75mb. As you will notice, it's a stability update with a few other changes.
JellyBean (if I'm to guess based on the JB leaks for the S3) will probably be more in the realm of like 150~300mb at the very least, but I could be wrong. and will likely come with a big warning about some apps might stop working! lol
At least that's how I remember going from Froyo to Gingerbread on my Epic4G.

Agree. Major OS upgrades usually ARE much larger. Heck, look at the ROM from samfirmware. Also the stock LH2. Close to a gig.
Bah, no Jelly Bean. Wonder what this update did it's still 4.0.4. Here's all the version stuff.

It updated a few things. scrolling side bars in S-Note is one the big changes, IF that can be considered... big.

And reported xFAT for 64GB uSD. That would seem to be rather good. Hopefully "paving the way" for JB with these tweaks.

yeah. I think my Epic 4G Froyo to Gingerbread update was in the realm of like 250mb or something. It was big as I recall... The update zips for JB for the S3 are 750mb... >.> Really... Honestly I wouldn't be at all shocked if we're looking at a minimum of 500mb, but I'm guess guessing that number based on intuition.

Now, be a good little XDA'r and go in to "edit" and "advanced" in your original post and change the title of this thread. People are going to be pissed opening it only to see "never mind."

Would be nice to see a stable JB leak for us 8013 owners like LIH is for my Sprint S3. Yeah, it's draining my battery about 3x harder despite the fact I've frozen up several offending apps. But I'm curious to see the additional intergration between my Note 10.1 and S3... Will my phone be able to tell my tablet the alarm is going off in 15 minutes and to go downstairs and make me breakfast? Will my tablet be able to send my phone messages reminding my phone that it's been abandoned because 10.1 of screen is better than 4.8? Or are we talking about more realistic things like... S-Note will be able to sync up with S-Memo? >.>
I'm hoping for the breakfast bit, but I'm doubting that feature will come.

Sounds reasonable to me, my man. Just make sure one is on WiFi when that bad boy does show up!
