As you may know or not there was a found leak yesterday of REAL android 4.3 for the Samsung Galaxy S4 I-9505.
Well how does this relate to us?
Well we all are interested to see the difference in the system.
I thought it would be a good idea to keep a discussion thread just in case someone brings it up and people go off topic.
Some quick info on the firmware:
- A lot of backdoor additions such as the new norm of Low Power Bluetooth support.
- This version is NOT KEY LIME PIE.
- This version has almost no UI changes, but noticeable changes include settings access method in the camera e.t.c
- Some apps have Android 4.3 and even the modem name attached into the description when accessing app info.
- Known to increase benchmark scores by approximately 1800 in Antutu.
- Has a SeLinux button at bottom of About Phone in Settings.

Well only a leak for a phone.
Even Google didn't say a word about it but it is a firmware for a Google Edition phone made by them so it's official.

Even if the performance on Android 4.3 would be better, we would sadly never get it to a state on the Xperia Play so that it can be used as a daily driver. We're not even able to get wifi working on android 4.2!
I don't think anything above 4.1 is worth working on.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda app-developers app
for someone that doesnt use phone for gaming even android 10 will be good on xperia play
What about performance?
great
It will be great if we can have a 4.3 roms for XPlay but i think that will kill the gaming performance of the device!!
It is rumored that Android 5.0 will run better on low-end phones than Jelly Bean did.

If you mix this rumor with the other rumor that Motorola has some secret new low-spec'd phones coming out, there may be some truth to it. I certainly hope so.
Personally I believe our phone is good enough to run JB. I don't see why it couldn't run Android 5.0 well.
JB performance is impressive and a lot of people don't understand RAM Consumption to a full extent on Android.
I think even 4.2.2 won't do the play any bad.

The video is real, many sites have it reported that many manufacturers had Android 2.4 running on several devices there.
Also look at the baseband version they are running there. It is newer than ours ...
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Anyone notice the i9023 baseband?
edit: /\ that guy did.
OK that video is in German. The woman in the video says that the nexus is ready to be sold and that it is not shure yet which carrier will get it. Price will be somewhere between 500 and 550€, like the sgs. It is also not clear if it will get a samoled or a slcd, she said.
I think the vid is legit, she seems to be from Samsung or something like that...
Could it be that its just a specific version of 2.3 made for German NS? Similar to the Motorolla Droid's having custom versions of 2.1/2.2? I've read a lot of rumors on 2.4 but nothing seriously confirmed. I can't imagine the UI would be that different from 2.3-2.4, but then again I didn't think that there would be such drastic difference from 2.2-2.3.
I've read alot on every android website possible concerning these rumors, and nobody really has anything solid other than alternate baseband numbers and pictures of the Xperia and NS running 2.4
In Sweden it will be called I9023. (Stated by Samsung)
How will it differ, SW/HW wise apart from the SLCD screen, will be intresting. (Prob only SW)

Hasn't even been announced yet, so I doubt anyone even has a clue But I imagine it may launch/be released about the same time as Honeycomb is fully announced, so maybe end of January/early Feb.
I read somewhere that 2.4 is mostly going to be gingerbread with just updates. More or less how Moto Droid started with 2.0 then moved to 2.1, still eclair but it included updates and what not.

It's not about running it better than ICS, it's about game compatibility with the touchpads and the overall gaming experience compared to Gingerbread.
Hence why they didn't update to ICS in the first place, It's extremely unlikely that we will get Jelly Bean or anything else as a matter of fact tbh. The only way we can get Jelly Bean is by porting but gaming will always be a problem with roms from ICS onwards.

I agree that there's so many useless threads which have been created over and over again with people moaning even though its for their own good. Then they wonder why the get insulted and called noobs etc.
Plus some people on this forum are so ungrateful to what we devs give to them and just always complain, You can never win with some people hence why I stopped developing my ICS Rom further with constant posts saying touchpads aren't working blahblah..

Yeah, I would agree with your point, ICS performance-wise is no doubt far better than Gingerbread (not to mention Jelly Bean), but I don't see it in the last ICS Beta on my Xperia Play ... the reason being ... may be lack of good driver support, if there's no official driver support, and Sony just expect hack work from the XDA community can resolve this issue they are too cheap-skate ... no offends, I think the open-source initiative is pure good, but official support is crucial too ...

Everybody hm...My guess is, that KK will be optimized more than we might expect. Obviously not everybody has a high end device. You CANNOT fully enjoy android 4.X on a low/mid spec phone. It gets the job done, but is nowhere near the experience you get on a high end phone. Hell, 4.X is often / laggy on quadcore phones with 2 gigs of ram. I believe that we can expect a big performance jump on every phone.

High-five brother :highfive::highfive::highfive::highfive::highfive:
I was wondering the same thing. Google isn't looking to make Android for performance-driven devices only. The the sucky part is that OEMs aren't going to update older phones with the new software. Mainly because the hardware is outdated and not supported, like say a TI OMAP chipset and Tegra 2. I'm pretty sure Xperia S owners are going to start cribbing about this in a few months too. Bringing Android to everyone is a forward looking statement where new devices, both low-end and high-performance, will be able to run the OS smoothly.

I wouldnt be sure about that. Sale of mobile phones is on its best in the first five/six months, then it decreases. Mobile phones being over 1 year old are commonly taken as sold out and you hardly get it in any mobile network offer. For SONY and other brands those phones are not money-makers and no one will provide updates for them, its not cruelty its just economy. Another aspect is that if they do so i mean update older phones they will definitely lose some clients for new ones, its like im not going to but expensive new one cause there is no difference in buying cheaper: same software, apps, other features. Economy is a keyword for updates, most of older devices are capable of running newer software enough smoothly.

KitKat is all fine and dandy but without, I am sure, additional sources released by Sony (Ericsson) we will probably never get a JB kernel working and still retain full Xperia PLAY compatibility... then again I may be completely wrong and if I am someone correct me. I have stayed pretty much on GB for gaming. Either way, thanks for sharing... although I think this should go to the General forum.... anyways... thread on.
google says that they made the OS smaller and after so old devices that didn't get in the past update can now get update because they resolve many issues.

True but they also stated those will need to be updated by either the carrier or the manufacturer of the device(s). As $ony long ago gave up on the PLAY, I think its incredibly unlikely we will see any support form Sony and or even source releases.
Still, it would be awesome if we can get it up and running, but dont forget the highest kernel we can sort of get working, is kernel 3.4.
Kitkat would be an even higher kernel number.
Google isn't even releasing KitKat for the Galaxy Nexus. Sony isn't going to do it either, and it would need hardware drivers from Qualcomm side too.
Why is this thread in the dev section?
is that true?

I don't know if the X Play will ever get KitKat but Google introduced a new runtime called ART to replace Dalvik with KitKat, on my Nexus 4 it really improve the performance to a substantial amount, so maybe that will help as well.

Would be great if Sony would pay more attention to their old phones, specially because they cancelled the ics update so sudden.
But i don´t think this will happen.

so? is there anyone working on kitkat roms for xPlay? or its abandoned at all?
By the looks of it, KitKat is out of reach for our device, theres barely any 4.1 or 4.2 jellybean roms functioning, what makes you think we will get 4.4 any time soon? Our Play is best optimised for GB due to performance issues as ICS+ isn't 100% functional on our play. Don't believe me? try any ics rom out and sooner or later you will find out that games will lag and memory will tend to be low. Sorry but this is the bottom line for our xperia play.
Legacyxperia (mostly mike) is working to get gully working 3.4 kernel. Than we wpuld be able to boot kitkat.

Has anyone check the support pages for xperia sp? I think we have a bad news about future update. Before the 4.3 comes, kitkat is the future version. But after an update, the change it to under investigation.

im not complaining about the time to update it, but down grade the status that make me worries. before under investigation, the status of kitkat is Future Version. i hope they do it right.

I also hope i am right :fingers-crossed:
its under investigation because they are planning to abandon further support for sp because they have new sets of mobile lined up for this year which they will focus on more...
I BELIEVE THAT SP IS VERY MUCH CAPABLE OF RUNNING KITKAT
Why even post this considering it's already been mentioned in the android 4.3/kitkat thread....
For Ordinary KitKat i think that it will work but pray for ART

If Sony doesn't release 4.4 for SP I might buy the Z1 Compact or whatever will be the SP's succesor(only if it has 2 GB of ram !). What do you think Sony wants me to do ?
Most of the phones that have recently had 4.3 released had said that they were under investigation to get it. It doesn't mean we won't it just means they are going to see how much work it will take to do. Still a really good chance we will see it

Agree with you. I had the same thought!
I do believe that 4.4 will come to SP, since they have announced it as "future version" like last year. I guess they just want to take a break for a while for the whining that we SP users gave to them.
Sony should release 4.4 +1 version. Since they support a device 18 months, I reckon that a version above Kitkat will release and that will be the last and the final update.

People get really annoyed...
They can also unlock bootloader and upgrade with CM (What I finally did after waiting years to update my xperia x10 mini pro)
