I bought my Nexus 10 off eBay from someone who accidentally ordered an extra unit during the release of the nexus 10.
I've had it for about a week and a half now and have noticed two issues with the device.
The first issue is that I definitely do not see the 10 hour battery life or anything near it. With playing games, after about 2-3 hours, the fully charged battery goes down to about 20%.
The second issue is that when I push the sleep button to but it on standby mode, it occasionally switches back on when I put it down or lift it up. I have a zip case for it, and I've opened it up to see the nexus on the lock page.
Is this normal? Anyone have any similar experience, and could this be related to the short battery life?

They "purchased an extra one accidentally"? I find that hard to believe since you can review your order and total price before actually submitting it.
Anyways, no, the unit turning itself back on when in sleep mode is not normal. You have to hit the power button. Are you sure something is not accidentally hitting it when inside the case? Either that or there's an issue with the power button (loose connection?).
FYI, in order to experience the full capacity of the battery, you have to cycle it a few times (ie. drain and recharge to full).

There were a lot of instances with the Nexus 4 purchase that resulted in double orders and people not being able to cancel them. Same could of happened with some Nexus 10 purchases too.
As for the screen turning back on, perhaps it might be another app that's installed?

I bought 3 by accident, I was able to only cancel 1 of them. I was shipped 2 and sold it on eBay .... so yea it happens.

For checking the battery issue, maybe try resetting your battery stats and monitoring the charge levels using this app to see how the battery is doing as it charges or discharges to make sure you really are charging it all the way.

For the on/off issue, This case advertises an automatic wake/sleep function. Maybe something about where you put your tablet is triggering it (magnets nearby?)

For some reason, my g1 alwyas randomly turns off during the day, sometimes when i try to text, it just turns off, or when i recieve a call, it turns off, and the battery never represents a true showing, because sometimes itll sayy its very low and turn off, and i wait 5 mins, and turn it back on again without connecting it to a power source, and it says its a 66 pct... anyone have an idea why?
Is ur battery bulging in the middle? Your battery is probably crap. I would try buy a cheap new one online for like 5 to 15bucks that should fix the problem. I seen some 1400mAH batteries on ebay, you get 2 for 10$ but i dunno if they are good. Try look in the acessories section and you might find some good reviews on batteries. I need to get one too i wanna get the seidio one but priced at 40$ i rather sell my g1 put it with the 40$ and buy a mytouch 3g slide...

Im pretty sure its your battery. Check the center of your battery and if its swollen then you solved your problem. This happened to me about a month ago and i feel u that rebooting reeeaally gets annoying! Just buy a new battery. I bought one from amazon for 15$ Give it a try

NOBODY SAID THAT!
They're saying that it is LIKELY the battery.
NOT that it MUST be the battery.
then what could the software problem be? i flashed it back to the stock firmware and rom and everything, but the battery still runs out in like 8 hours

Suddenly my nexus has frozen with screen off.
Per Google CS instructions, Ive tried to hold down the power button down as well as holding the power button down with volume rocker pressed and still no restart.
Has anyone had this problem, would rather not have to buy a new device and send the other back as that is all I could do.
Hopefully I can just fix it without having to go through the trouble of getting a new device and returning this one.

Try leaving it on the charger for a day. Could be that the battery somehow completely drained which messes up the recharging system in the battery. Leaving it in the charger for some time might help, or not.

Worth a shot...I really miss removable batteries right about now!!!
Yeah, this has happened before with my nexus 7 and my touchpad also. I had left something running that totally killed the battery and I could not get a boot at all. After charging though I was able.
Chances are it is not frozen but rather dead most likely because of the battery.

Turns out its most likely not the battery as it was just about fully charged prior to the freeze. Plugging in to a computer to try to do the hard reset gets the notification light to flash red. Someone on another android forum had the same issue and needed a replacement.
Just ordered my replacement which they have available since they kept a reserve for possible defective devices. A hold for the new phone will be placed on my account until they receive the defective unit.
Hopefully its a fairly painless process! That being said, it was a great phone when it worked! Hoping its not going to be a widespread issue among other users.
Just got my new nexus delivered... Hopefully no issues with this one!

Nexus 4 Freeze
Is there any chance you could possibly let me know how you returned your device, as unfortunately the same thing has happened to me.
Nexus 4: on google earth, phone crashed/froze, held down power button, dark skreen, frozen still, want exchange.

Went out yesterday afternoon with some friends, had about 80% charge on the battery. Probably an hour into my night, I went to check my phone (i always keep it in my front pocket), and to my confusion, it wouldn't power on. Okay...maybe somehow an app left running killed the battery (although I think they designed the phones not to do this). Fast forward about 4 hours, when we get back home. I plug the phone into the wall charger and instantly see an unfamiliar blinking red led light just above the charge port. The phone wouldn't power up, decided to check back later. 30 Minutes later, still nothing. 8 Hours later on charge, still nothing.
I've tried hard resetting, I've tried holding the power button for 30 seconds, I've tried holding all three simultaneously. I guess it's just a dead phone.
I didn't root the phone, I didn't custom-rom the phone, no 3rd-party kernel...nothing...she was completely stock.
I called google, their support agent wasn't familiar with the phone. Said he'd get an RMA started, would email me the details he needed from me...never got back to me. I'm pretty pissed.
Waiting 5 weeks for a phone that dies in a month....not a happy camper.

UPDATE #2
The phone "died" again. Took it apart again, pulled the battery, again. Factory Reset, the phones been on a charger since then and it is still on, we'll see how it lasts the day.
I'm not sure if there is any proof of this, but I read somewhere that benchmarking apps can cause this(?) I had Quadrant installed on my device shortly before this happened. Anyway, I'll let you guys know if I have any more problems.

Yes and Yes, but I don't want to void my warranty on such an unknown problem. I'd rather see it replaced and they can research the problem on my phone and try to prevent it in the future so others don't have to go through this. Thanks
Don't you just hate the fact that some random employee at Google will easily have access to all of your personal data left on the phone?

I'm not aware of any warranty/void stickers on this phone.

If
If the phone battery has been discharged too far then it becomes dangerous to try and recharge it as it can explode, this is why these sorts of safety mechanisms kick in sometimes.
Your only option is to send it back, if the battery safety device has been activated, it will be permanent and can only be fixed by a new battery

Are you sure? Can anybody else verify this? What were you going to suggest doing? I'm having lots of complications with the RMA process because i'm currently visiting in England until the end of the month and then I'll go back to Germany where I'll be living for the next ~7 months. I got this phone last month when I was visiting home in the US. It's a total disaster and if disconnecting and reconnecting my battery is all I need to do (and I won't void the warranty), I'd prefer to give that a go.
oh and another thing...when I connect the phone to my laptop, the USB connect/disconnect sound plays every 5-6 seconds. So it seems like the phone is turning on, and then off again...over and over again.

I figured that all this red light stuff could be solved by a simple battery pull, but LG was too STUPID to realize that people need an accessible battery and now to even try it, you have to open the phone and unscrew the battery connector.

I'm back. The phone has done it again. I've not got the patience to peel the back off, but it's gone into the blinking red light on charge/not booting up at all mode.
GOOGLE/LG, IF YOU'RE READING THIS, Send us all a new battery as well as the tools to replace it, and update the software, too. I'd also like $50 for the trouble, and please, fire every single "support technician" that thinks the sim card is behind the battery on a nexus (I've had that 2 times now from support)
The phone is great when it works, but it's "infrastructure" is absolutely god awful.
Will report back. Recommendations are welcome!

Nope, I haven't done that. I just took it apart and reconnected the battery for the 3rd time. I really don't know what the f**k to do at this point. Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this? Google will not allow me to RMA the phone because I bought it in the US and I live in Germany (they won't ship it to Germany for some **** reason).

Find a replacement.
You can also call LG instead of google. They may RMA for you.

It's lasted through the night off the charger on Franco's Kernel and CM 10.1
not sure what that tells us, but I'm happy!
I'm 90% sure all of these weird battery problems + red light are because of stock charger!

But instead of telling us to search, could you provide us with sources? Because this is interesting.
Somebody should compare the LG charger with another good quality charger, a Samsung or Nokia for example, using a scope.
So I see this is a common but no one has mentioned static on the screen. When I plug it in, it boots as normal with the nexus animation etc. When it starts it immediately says shutting down, and turns off. However, while it remains plugged in the static on the screen is there and a very very faint buzzing sound from the top/back of the tablet.
Anyone had similar? I've searched and searched but nada.

It might help if you plug it in while off then press power and vol down and hold, it should go to a screen where you can scroll with vol down to shut off.
Then unplug and replug into wall, let charge for while then boot up
Seems to be a common fix, hope this helps

Thanks for the replies guys, I just took it back and had it replaced where I bought it since I had it less than 12 months. It was a 16GB but they only had 32GB in stock, so guess what I got?!

Hey - I guess there's something to say for buying tech gear at local bricks/mortar places.
Yours is the best "fix" of all!!
Be aware that your reported issue might very well happen with your new N7 as well - it's typical, in fact. One great way to avoid that issue (it's listed as a fix in my Sticky that I refereced earlier) is to occasionally just turn it off - for an hour or two. You can charge it during that time if you wish.
Good luck with your new *better* N7!!
Don't I know it, man! The first one I knocked very gently, yet the screen cracked pretty badly. The second burned out so hopefully this one will be lucky.

Damn good luck, getting a new one with double the gb's, def best solution!
Well just a quick update. The new one also broke, I went to turn it on and it was dead. Did think about getting a nexus 10 but since brick and mortar stores don't sell it, it will be too much effort to return when I inevitably find a light bleeding issue. So F google, I'm typing this from my new iPad!
I am a Nexus advocate and the same will most likely be true no matter which name or branding Google chooses to use... that is as long as they don't steer away from the customizability and the virtually impossibility of a software brick.
Anywho I am a owner of a 6p. I bought it in Feb. around Valentine's day. The reason this is revenant is because @ that time is when the gold nexus came out and was on sale. The only problem being was I didn't want the gold.. I wanted the aluminum one. I was able to remedy that easily enough. I ordered a new Rear housing via ali express which came with the glass and bottom plastic piece that covered the screws. I have repaired my Nexus 5 lcd probably 5 times. So I have some experience with mobile repair. When the back finally came in (like a month). I watched a quick tutorial of a tear down. When I was applying heat I used a little too much and ruined my camera. I was able to access the camera but it was very blurry to the point of not being able to make out what ever it was. So I ordered another camera via ali express again, waited a month, then attempted another repair. This time I had no issues with the heat gun or removing the rear housing. To replace the camera was not as easy as it would have been for the Nexus 5... there are several steps involved... one of which being too take out the battery... I cannot figure out for the life of me why Huawei would feel it necessary to apply a **** ton of adhesive on a battery that has little to no wiggle room but they did. While I was attempting the removal I ripped the poly bag and could instantly smell the lithium. Soooo I ended up ordering a new battery from China again. While I was waiting for it to come in the phone fell off of my bench and cracked the screen. I had no idea if the screen would work or not until the battery arrived so I could test. Well the battery came in finally I installed it with no issues. The phone is once again in one piece but unfortunately the screen does not work, but, I am not sure that it is only the screen not working. Is there anyway that I would be able to troubleshoot or verify that it is only the screen that isn't working? This is why I named the post pivotal moment... if it is only the screen and I can somehow verify it then ill purchase a screen... but if I order the screen, replace it, only to find out that it is not the screen where the problems reside and/or it is only one of many problems then I'll probably give up and lick my wounds.. So, in a nutshell, is there anyway to run a diagnostic or anything like it... At this point ANY help or suggestions are welcome.

Well to me it sounds like you should be able to turn the phone on at least? Once it's on, give it maybe 5 solid minutes to boot just in case and try to operate it. If you see no response then try to call the phone. That would engage the screen, sound, and motor for the vibrate, if set... Go from there?

Try holding down volume down + power for a couple seconds and plug it into a PC and see if it tries to load fastboot drivers.
one of my problems is that i cannot tell if the battery is charging or not... is there anyway to bypass charging port and put a direct charge to the battery so that I at least know that the battery will charge and/or hold the charge... That will also let me know if my charging port is working or not.

How long have you had the phone plugged in to a charger?
After installation probably 4-6 hours.. That's the beauty about Liith-poly... The rules of NiCd and NiMh are obsolete and do not apply... unless you are using one of course. Anyways a couple hours here an there..

My apologies about the tardiness of my response.. I put it on the charger yesterday for a good 8 hours..
no matter how long i push the power button I receive no response from the phone..
I've tried this while having the phone connected via USB to the pc..
I've used a multimeter and it reads 3.7v which is right on par but I have no way to test under a load to confirm that it remains at that level.
I'm curious to know if there is a way to test without battery...

No worries, we all have lives.
And well, the only thing you could really do would be to remove the battery and then jump the terminals from an external supply.
It'd be the same as using a laptop with the battery removed and having it plugged into the wall still.
