Just alerting Evo owners (Android owners too) that Amazon just launched their Amazon Cloud Player and Android App. You get 5 GB for free and if you purchase a mp3 (just one will do and for .99 cents pretty cheap storage) you are automatically updated to 20 GB for one year. You can upload your existing music collection to the cloud and listen anywhere; home PC, phone, anywhere with an internet connection. It also allows you to store other files there as well (so they say but haven't checked out that option yet). There is an Android App to go with the program. No subscription fees. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Secures your music in case of hardware failure and has the potential to free up a lot of space on your SD card. If you want to pull your music back onto your phone to listen in a premium music player, thats doable too. Great concept and the price can't be beat. This should be especially useful to Sprint users with unlimited data plans. I uploaded 10 GB of music this morning from my computer over Wifi from home and will clean up my SD card from music I don't listen too that often. I think it's a great utility and let's you manage your own library of music pretty liberally.
When they sell flac then I'm in. Until then ill pass
swyped from my cyanogenized and gingerbreaded EVO
Im thinking about this but i want see what apple and google offer next.
A whole 20 gig? That wouldnt even house my music with artists starting with A. Do these people really think people have that little music? Ive been buying CDs since the 90s and ripping them. At 320K, it doesnt take long to rack up some space.

Hi, so If I upload all my songs to the cloud .. is there a mp3 player within the cloud that will play my songs, or do i need to download the song in order for it to play?
You can use the amazon mp3 app on your phone to play the music or use the web app on your computer.
Also if you purchase the $.69 album linked below you'll be upgraded to the 20 GB plan. 20 GB for $.69. EASY....

The best streaming service I've tried is mspot. It gives you 2GB free space but you can buy more, I fit alot more than 2GB in because it gives you an option of song quality to upload from the original format so I chose the lowest (its just a phone and sounds great even the website through my computer speakers), and best of all its all in the cloud, no need for your computer to be on to act as a server like other services.
I was up very late messing around with this last night. Honestly, I think it's an awesome move, and has thrown down the gauntlet to Google and Apple. Plus, 20GB is enough for me to fit all my most listened to music up there. I like that it streams in the songs original bitrate too.
A lot of people in the comments section on various sites keep mentioning Audiogalaxy as an alternative, but what sets this apart is your home computer doesn't have to be on and connected to the internet all the time.
I may move to Google Music when it comes out, but for now, for me, this is the cream of the crop.
You guys may want to be real careful on what you upload to CloudDrive for a while.
Seems Amazon is taking a "unique" approach to this cloud storage & streaming service. They are arguing that they dont need distribution licenses from RIAA because the service is more like a user saving files to an external harddrive, but in this case its the cloud.
They dont have a license agreement with ANY of the labels, which means that things will likely go south. RIAA and labels are likely going to sue Amazon and issue a C&D letter to get the service to stop. They may even get Amazon to turn over user info and lead to other headaches... Sony for one stated that they are "shocked & upset" over Amazon's new CloudDrive service and others are saying they cant believe a company like Amazon went ahead without securing licenses...
http://http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Amazon-faces-backlash-over-rb-3699819521.html
I would only store music previously purchased from Amazon or CDs that you own, just to be safe. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I would bet that if Amazon doesnt secure some sort of licensing deal & tighten up their offerings, RIAA is going to bring lawsuits.
I presume all those who pre-ordered get the credit. :good:
This is my first "Android" tablet (I own the Sony PRS T1, which is a reader FWIW), have never used an Android application till date.
Would really love recommendations for apps for this tablet OR how do you guys plan to use your credit? I am not into games, so any productivity applications for this tablet, which I shouldn't be missing out, give me a shout.
As I already own a ton of apps I'll probably dump mine into games.
For the sake of reference my daily go-to apps that i think are worth investing in would be:
Browser: OverSkreen
Music: PowerAmp
Forums: Tapatalk
Facebook: Friendcaster
Twitter: Plume
Photo editing: PS Touch
Everything else I use daily is either free, games and emulators or camera based, which doesn't apply here. I'm happy to supply a list of some of my favorite freebies if you like but as there are tons of threads devoted to such so I won't clutter this thread with it.
Edit: Plume and Friendcaster both have free versions too but as good as I think they are I supported the development and bought the paid versions.

Email? Have been reading reviews and it seems K9 does not implement IMAP server search. From what I have seen from K9 reviews and its config options, it seems perfect for me, but IMAP server search would be a show stopper.

Indeed you can. It's very nice.
If you're going to be using XDA (which is for folks that root and flash ROMs) you'll want Titanium Backup Pro. If you don't know what that is you'll figure it out really fast the first time you screw something up...
I'd also recommend:
Wifi File Explorer Pro (super easy file transfers whenever your computer and tablet are connected to the same wifi).
Swiftkey 3 Tablet (though JellyBean apparently has a great built-in, so maybe not necessary)
ezPDF reader (full featured PDF reader with annotations)
GrooveIP (if you use google voice and want voip on your tablet)
IP Cam Viewer (pretty sure you can figure this one out from the name)
TuneInRadioPro (streaming internet radio)
Unless you need something special, don't waste your money on an office suite (google drive or Cloudon are both great). If you absolutely want one, get Quickoffice Pro HD.
What's a good program to use for streaming videos from my Windows shared network folders?
Are there any 3rd party apps that will let me listen to my Google Play Music or will it only work with the native app? Any reason the 3rd party music apps are better?
What's a good podcast listening app? Something similar to iTunes so it saves your last played location, deletes it when you finish listening to it, etc.

I recommend Tablet Talk if you use SMS a lot.
When I'm at home on my wifi network, I just leave my phone plugged in and I just bring my tablet around the house. (ie. Watching TV) It also has a pop up to inform you if there's a call on your phone.
You can also use Bluetooth to connect your tablet to your phone. But I haven't tried that yet.
Thanks much, summarizing the list so far (I will use this as a baseline productivity toolkit for my Nexus 7, reading reviews now):
Browser: OverSkreen
Music: PowerAmp
Forums: Tapatalk
Facebook: Friendcaster
Twitter: Plume
Photo editing: PS Touch
Backup: Titanium Backup Pro
File Explorer: Wifi File Explorer Pro
Keyboard: Swiftkey 3 Tablet
PDF Reader: ezPDF reader
VoIP: GrooveIP
Internet Radio: TuneInRadioPro
I guess need recommendations on the below categories as well:
Email Solution:
Office Solution:
RSS / News Reader:
Task Management (Integration with Google Task must):
Alarm / Reminders:
Grocery / Utilities:
Inventory Management:
I will do a running total ($) of all the above, am pretty sure $ 25 credit would be gone in seconds I wish some of the apps, which have ports for both AAPL and GOOG, the transfer was seamless (Need to maintain cash for both "stores" now).
Google is celebrating 25 billion downloads today with 25 cent apps... Just thought I would share.

3 of the apps are at least productivity apps and 1 is a live wall paper app. Google usually refreshes the list with these sales and throws a few repeats in there. At least some of the games look good - they usually aren't all terrible.

Hopefully some pretty good ones to come. I think it will be going on for the next 5 days.
I have a feeling that this is Google's way of fighting amazon
Three of the apps today were previously free Amazon apps
I am glad to pay a quarter and get rid of the amazon app store apk and having to be on wifi or data network to use my "Free" apps
If the next days have more free Amazon apps, I will buy them as well, and feel it really is google vs amazon
i don't like the amazon webstore either.mostly the apps are a tiny bit cheaper but the store itself is really slow and overloaded.
I'm rebuying a few office apps that I got for free on amazon app store. Even having them for free doesn't make them worth having that battery hog installed.

Nice. This time, there are some apps for me
Is the nexus 7 still worth it for me if i do not subscribe to stream movies, buy books and magazines, purchase songs. I do have my own collections of movies, books, songs on my pc.
I don't buy books or movies or magazines either, yet there hasn't been a day that I haven't used my N7 since the day I got it. It's wonderful.
I don't really watch movies on it but I do read books quite a bit however the thing I do most it browsing the web. I pretty much gave up using my laptop after getting my tablets.

This.
I tried to read a few magazines on mine but they take up a lot of space and its a little annoying to have to zoom into articles all the time. Watching streaming movies on the Nexus is great, constantly having them on there at your disposal is a completely different story. Same thing with music. If you want to do all that, I'd say wait for the 32 GB. The 8 GB is a joke if you want to do all that, I can't attest to the 16 GB.
I'm exactly like you but since I got this, I would say its worth every penny.
I use it primarily as a RSS reader, email reader, and to surf the web. I would say it is worth every penny.
I guess it will depend on what you want or need it for.
I use mine for everything.I have a 16gig and it is loaded with everything I use and it still has over 10gigs free space.I have lots of pictures stored on the device and quite a few songs in a playlist as well.I have lots of tv shows and movies loaded on my computer and it does not take long to stick something on the nexus if I want them on the device.I watch it and then get rid of it.No use carrying it on the device when I have already watched it.I have it all loaded on a stick drive that is always with me so storage is no biggy at all any more.
I use mine for checking email, streaming music to my truck stereo and having maps and gps during the day. When at home I surf the web and watch hbo and other streaming sites with it.I use BS player and can stream all the video stored on my computer as well.I also use it for reading my kindle books with the Amazon app.
I KNOW I get my moneys worth out of my n7 and am just scratching the surface on things I can do with it since it is my first Android device..
Of course it does. With the apps available out there, I'm sure you will find something that can help you with whatever you want to do.

I have 10" tab...have a gs3...have no need for this tab at all...however I love this thing. It is damn near perfect. It was worth every penny. Most places have a return policy, if you are unhappy return it. I couldn't.

Should be a problem with the app rather than the ROM.
Are you flashing new nightlies every day?
I noticed this with flashing roms on my phones. The Amazon App thinks it's a "new" phone and adds it like that.
Be sure to delete all the duplicates in your amazon account. There's a limit. Same thing happens with my bluetooth in my car and Play Music app.
