lolwut? I get 17Mbps down here in Chicago on HSPA+. There's no need for that battery draining pos LTE if you ask me.
I did the phone menu thing and changed it to lte/CDMA/gsm and its a little faster.
Going to do a speed test.
I'm on T-Mobile BTW and either way my phone gets the H not the 4g icon
Going to download speed test and screen shoot the difference to see

TMobile does not have LTE. It will not make a diff with TMobile SIM.
This may work if you have an ATT SIM and in ATT's LTE area.

isn't working on ATT, for me at least it isnt, and I know theres LTE coverage here, when my S III on ATT is sitting with LTE service, and my N4 isnt picking up any service while in LTE Mode, both microsims are LTE enabled with LTE shared Data Plans, both have APN set to pta (manually added on N4)

Thanks for confirming.
Pretty sure it's been confirmed on some att. Did you change your APN settings to match what the s3 has?

Basically if it's not Band 4 it won't be supported, Band 4 only appears to be active in Canada, and in America (AT&T, but i guess either it may only be rolled out in some places, or they may just have the spectrum, but not actively use it for LTE)

Why was this thread needed? There is a perfectly good one in general where ALL of this has been discussed?

My only concern is how will this affect the battery?

As stated in last post on first page of this thread. Canada using Band 4, and USA ATT is using Band 17. So less there's this phone does somehow support Band 17, and just need proper settings, then we are SOL for this fix.
"Since TELUS has the same LTE band 4 (1700/2100MHz) as Bell and Rogers, this means the Nexus 4's LTE will probably work on those carriers too.
UPDATE: AT&T has only rolled out LTE on Band 17 so far, so this won't work on AT&T.

It supports the 21mbps speeds of hspa just wont support there 4g LTE
Careful though... Just because at&t might offer it somewhere doesn't mean you'll have it in your area. I'm in the Chicagoland area, arguably one of the largest markets in this country, and all they offer here is hspa 15 because of their LTE focus. So you might not want to focus your decision on the fact that hspa 21+ is technically possible through at&t.

The numbers don't work like that. HSPA:+15 is either 21mbps or 42mbps. The 15 is not the Mbps cap of the network.

Well, according to this link, even at&t refers to the number of the hspa+ revision as it's top speed, so if you could show me something explaining why that's not correct, they would be great.

joshnichols189 is correct. Here is why:
HSPA-15 on your phone refers to Network type, not the max download rate. See the codes posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029722
Download max on HSPA-15 (HSPA+ or 4G) are 42.2, 21.1, and 14.0
Download max on HSPA-10 (HSPA or 3G) is 7.2
For more on the true max speed, see this Wiki page:

b vs B. If both of you stayed true to b = bit and B = byte, the highest you've ever gotten was only 1.25MB/s.
can anyone confirm all the posts online are not needed to get hspa+ on ATT with nexus 4? links like below say you need to have ATT do something with a fake IMEI since it couldnt detect mine and then set custom APN settings. My status bar says H but about this phone says HSPA+:15 for mobile network type. My phone when simw as inserted automatically set wap.cingular and all that and when i use speedtest.net app the ping comes back but fails to test the up and down speed. Any help is appreciated, i figure they people on this forum would know best.
PS. it wont let me post links until 10 posts. pm for links if needed.
Has anyone on T-Mo's monthly 4G noticed that if you go to roaming and then go back in an area where you would normally have HSPA or 3G that it doesn't switch back to signal and it just stays on roaming? It doesn't happen all the time just every so often.

Yeah, when you're roaming there will be a little R in the signal indicator where 3G or HSPA would normally be.
so still no answer to the OP's question? Sounds like a valid question to me and I also would like to know the answer and I don't yet have T-mobile.

Even somewhere where AT&T has service you won't necessarily roam. T-mobile only has roaming contracts with AT&T in some areas, so if you're in an area not covered by a roaming contract, you won't be able to get roaming, not even by trying to force register to AT&T. I've tried, believe me. T-Mo generally only has roaming contracts in areas where there are 10+sq miles of non-coverage, e.g. most of Montana.

Hello,
I bought an unlocked I9505 version of the Galaxy S4 and live in the US and my carrier is AT&T.
I know I have LTE service in my area since I came from iPhone and other phones in my household has LTE service in their phone's but mine?
My I9505 only shows and toggles between H and H+ but not the 4G and LTE subscript text next to the signal bars.
I've checked to make sure that under Mobile Networks that LTE/GSM/WCDMA is chosen and APN* settings are correct.

Awww, that's a bummer.
I am having the exact same issue, I have an i9505 and do not get the option of LTE on the list only GSM/WCDMA, GSM Only or WCDMA Only.
I had an LTE S3 and obviously that had an option for it in the network settings.
If the 4G was not compatible in my area then i would assume it would not be able to find a signal and not just disallow the selection in the settings.
Im in Australia btw and bought it unlocked from a company that shipped from Hong Kong.

I've contacted AT&T tech support and found out the reason why I can't get LTE. Different techs will give you different answers so I kept prying each
tech that I've encountered with to give me some sensible answer.
One tech said that the 9'th and 10th digit of the ATT sim should be 2 and 5. I checked my old iPhone's nano sim and it was 2 and 5. The replacement sim that I've received when I got my S4 was 2 and 9. So I went to an AT&T store to have my sim replaced, ofcourse they ignored what I told them that I'd like to have a sim with the 9th and 10th digit to be 2 and 5. ATT rep said that their new sim should work with LTE (which I thought should be) regardless of the 9th and 10th digit. Then, nothing still H+. Oh well...
So went home and tried chatting with the rep again and found out this:
LTE service is not provisioned in my plan since AT&T's system can't recognize my phone's IMEI hence they can't add it to their system.
So does that mean that GT-I9505 can have 4g LTE with AT&T's as long as they can register my IMEI on their network?
but w/e the sooner I can get over that I9505 isn't compatible with AT&T 's LTE the better.
Hm... When I was with Hybrid ROM MDN and modem MDN without ANY CSC, it shows me LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect). But now I flashed Modified MDM ROM with MDM modem with BTU CSC and the LTE disappeared..... I have only GSM/WCDMA option.... (just to remind that My GSM Operator does not provide LTE)
What do you think? maybe the LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) in the menu depends on th chosen CSC...
I think they are telling you a bunch of lies. The I9505 does not have the LTE bands for AT&T and that's really all there is to it.

I asked the store rep if Sprint is working on a fix, but we all know the Sprint reps are usually useless answering these questions (by this I mean at the store they are only trying to make a sell). Her answer was that Sprint is working on a fix that will fix all phones with an OTA. My next question was is this a hardware or software problem which she responded that it is a tower problem. I looked online for an answer but all I could find is that Sprint responded with a weird kinda lame answer that didn't really say if they are working on a fix or not. On Sprint's Forum a rep says they are, but they say a lot of things on the forum that aren't correct also. This seems to be a very frustrating situation actually.
Does it matter to you?
It does to me, but at the same time it isn't a function I use all the time. My only reason that it has helped me, is that it has greatly helped me with work a few or more times.
I am kinda forced to buy a new phone for framily / billing reasons... huge bill without it. I am sorta thinking that I will upgrade the phone but at the same time keep my S4 handy in case I hate the S5. I went to the store today and I have to say it actually surprised me with it's new version of Touchwiz- even though I usually hate Touchwiz.
The only real reason I can see me upgrading is the camera and battery algorithms for power saving.
I call crap!
I've had none of these issues personally, and you can just turn off Spark.
I spoke with sprint today and they said it would be fixed when spark opens up nation wide.

Spark is crap!!!
The reason you can only use one at a time is the triband antenna in the phone it can only use one signal at a time. It may be fixed once sprint starts using voice over LTE. Plus spark is just a unborn baby right now, not even full deployed. The sprint map says spark coverage is in certain areas on the sprint coverage map on the website. This is not true, the sprak network is 2.5Ghz radio head on the the already existing towers(have not be built or not on-air yet). According to sprint Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung towers are the only companies that are contracted to work on spark networks. Ericsson is looking like they will not be apart of the upgrade. This means there will be 1/3 of the sprint market that will not have spark. Sprint has the the companies split by markets and only two of them have contracts to build in their area.
Here is an article that will cover a good about of that info.

NSN will be the contractor for the Areas served by Ericsson for NV 1.0. The reason you can not get SVLTE is because they do not have multiple pathways for 1x and LTE. Here it talks about it. The S5 was not the first phone to have this happen, All tri-Band Phones will most likely be without SVLTE from now on.
S4gru has a few pages explaining it better.

Having sprint spark doesn't mean your going to have best speeds unless your connected to band 41 or band 26 which is the newest bands. With those speeds you have there i wouldn't be surprise if your connected to band 25 which is the 1900mhz which yea its loaded with majority of sprint customers which is going to give you real slow speeds.
Here some speed test on band 41 i took yesterday morning when i was heading to go play some basketball.

Where do you live? And also what i did was i went into my settings ##data# and made band 41 as my primary. My list is #1 band 41 as primary, #2 is band 25 and #3 is band 26 since its not active here in Miami yet but band 41 is doing great so far as you can see.
