[Q] Does Nexus 7 - 4G support 3G too? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does Nexus 7 4G compatible with 3G too.
Can anyone of you let me know the 3G frequency it will support?
As per tech crunch page, it has been mentioned as 3G compatible.

Thanks..

In my experiments it shows HSPA on both US AT&T and T-Mobile. Most likely it is the same as Nexus 4.

Thanks for your reply.
Does it work in UMTS or 2100Mhz?

Currently using my USA purchased N7 in Malaysia. Works great here. On a train trip the other day I noticed the following indicators above the bars, depending where I was. G,E,3G,H. HSPA speed is good.

Yes.

It supports the 21mbps speeds of hspa just wont support there 4g LTE
Careful though... Just because at&t might offer it somewhere doesn't mean you'll have it in your area. I'm in the Chicagoland area, arguably one of the largest markets in this country, and all they offer here is hspa 15 because of their LTE focus. So you might not want to focus your decision on the fact that hspa 21+ is technically possible through at&t.

If you have a choice, I'd go with T-Mobile. Their 3G is WAYYYY faster than ATT's 3g...
... at least here in california... i get like barely 1MB down IF IM LUCKY with ATT...
...when I throw my sisters T-Mobile SIM in my nexus,, its at least around 2-3 MB/sec!!

Here in SoCal and I'm on AT&T and I average about 5-7Mbps, highest I've gotten is 10Mbps.
I get 12-18 down on Solavei which uses T-Mobile

Yes. The LG Google Nexus 4 supports both HSPA+ 21/42 and compatible with AT&T.
Fastest I have seen on my phone with Att is 13.2mb/s

The numbers don't work like that. HSPA:+15 is either 21mbps or 42mbps. The 15 is not the Mbps cap of the network.

Well, according to this link, even at&t refers to the number of the hspa+ revision as it's top speed, so if you could show me something explaining why that's not correct, they would be great.

joshnichols189 is correct. Here is why:
HSPA-15 on your phone refers to Network type, not the max download rate. See the codes posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029722
Download max on HSPA-15 (HSPA+ or 4G) are 42.2, 21.1, and 14.0
Download max on HSPA-10 (HSPA or 3G) is 7.2
For more on the true max speed, see this Wiki page:

b vs B. If both of you stayed true to b = bit and B = byte, the highest you've ever gotten was only 1.25MB/s.
can anyone confirm all the posts online are not needed to get hspa+ on ATT with nexus 4? links like below say you need to have ATT do something with a fake IMEI since it couldnt detect mine and then set custom APN settings. My status bar says H but about this phone says HSPA+:15 for mobile network type. My phone when simw as inserted automatically set wap.cingular and all that and when i use speedtest.net app the ping comes back but fails to test the up and down speed. Any help is appreciated, i figure they people on this forum would know best.
PS. it wont let me post links until 10 posts. pm for links if needed.

NEXUS 4 T-Mobile HSPA ROAMING

Since the n4 uses all frequencies of the USA T-Mobile & AT&T. Has anyone noticed T-Mobile roaming hspa off att in areas that T-Mobile does not offer their 4G service?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
It is always interesting to know since they t-mobile were given 7 yrs to roam at 850mhz for 2G & 3G. Recently T-Mobile announced moving hspa, edge, and gsm to 1900mhz. I need to know if anyone is getting hspa T-Mobile roaming off att?

no roaming here on my prepaid and post paid phones

Not understanding the nexus 4 and its 4g restrictions

So I read in most forums and it seems to me that you can get 4g but at the cost of Google now not working. I'm just a bit confused. I've had my nexus 4 for about 2 weeks now. 3g only. Currently on T-Mobile what I was wondering is that how come my box says 4g but I'm only getting 3g and I checked best buys website and they're selling nexus 4 and in the description it says it has 4g.

they call hspa+ 4G. while its technically 3G(or 3.5G), it can be very fast too, so they call it 4G. ive gotten data speed as fast as 30mbps for download on hspa+ in my area. i think that you are thinking lte, which is also considered 4G. they are just different technology.

In fact it's got a LTE modem inside so it was possible to connect but no specific amplifiers for 4G signal, also the newest update from Google rendered it unusable.
HSPA+ 21/42 is fast enough, as said above, I guess.
What everyone above me said. For what it's worth, for most people, hspa+ is more than fast enough. There is nothing you'd do on a phone than warrants needing faster internet than your at home cable internet lol

3g on a LTE 4g Galaxy S4?

Hi all. In a few weeks I will be buying a sim free Galaxy S4. I am thinking about getting the LTE model, AKA the I9505. My question is, will 3g work on this model because I plan on using 3g until the price of 4g comes down.
Yes this will work, every mobile phone supports this.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Yes you will have no problems.
Odd that you get charged more for a 4g services than a 3g service. doesnt work that way here in OZ really just gotta be lucky to get 4g connections lol
Yes it will work! I have the 4G LTE version, too. And I use a 3G flatrate, because here in Germany 4G is very expensive... :crying:
3g will work

It does, you will just have to be rooted and flash either an older radio or a hybrid radio to use LTE

Oh you lucky devil. LTE Advanced is the next step beyond LTE. It's called True 4G because LTE technically isn't 4G. There are very few places and carriers that use LTE Advanced today because it's so new. Anyway, the Nexus 4 won't be able to use LTE Advanced because it doesn't have the proper hardware. In fact, I've only heard of one major phone that has the hardware, a special GS4 that Samsung released in markets that could use it. I'm sure there are others, but that's all I've heard.
If I may ask, where do you live? I'm just curious as to where they're rolling out LTE Advanced.

I come from the tiny little island called "Malta" in the heart of the med. I suppose for the first time in history were actually technologically advanced. Vodafone just announced it this morning and I got in-contact with someone who works there. Shame nobody will be able to benefit from it immediately
Sorry I don't think Vodafone use Band 4. You might want to wait for the announcement of the Nexus 5. There is some rumor it will support all the LTE bands, though its unconfirmed.
You can see the list of LTE bands here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
