Make all games "Compatible"!! - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Gamers here might be disappointed by the fact that all phones having Qualcomm MSM8255 processor except our "Ideos X5 pro" are shown compatible with all the games available on Play Store.
So, in order to wash off your disappointment, I've found out a way to make all games compatible with our awesome phone..
P.S.- It is expected to work on all rooted ROMs (I had tried on official ICS).
Also, some ROMs already have it (e.g.- MIUI).
Here it goes-
1. Using root explorer (I use X-plore File Manager, as its the best), open /system/build.prop
(X-plore File Manager has a built-in text editor as well)
2. Replace the following-
ro.product.model=U8800Pro
ro.product.device=hwu8800Pro
ro.product.board=U8800Pro
with this-
ro.product.model=U8800PRO
ro.product.device=hwU8800PRO
ro.product.board=U8800PRO
3. Save it back to /system
4. Go to Settings-> Applications-> Play Store-> "Clear Data"
5. Reboot your phone
6. Open Play Store and Search for Modern Combat or Real Racing 2 or GT Racing Motor Academy or Brothers in Arms
7. Give a "big" smile
There are other ways too to do this, for example the most common one is using HTC Desire HD's identity.. But why resort to such fake methods when just by writing the name of your own phone in capitals can accomplish it all!!
Sent from my awesome Ideos X5 (U8800pro).

Its not really a hack, its enabled on some roms. Others keep it lower case for simplicity (just as i)

Yeah, I found this while using Geno's MIUI v4
All my thanks to him!
"Keeping it lower case for simplicity"... and the result of this simplicity made me feel cheated by Huawei..
But now after this discovery I'm fully satisfied with my phone.
I can now show-off to my friends that my phone despite being 1/3 the price of their phones is compatible with all games

Just a few questions from a new SGS2 owner

Hello everyone.
I just gave my beloved HD2 after almost 2 years and decided to move on to Galaxy s2.
What i would like to ask is:
What do you suggest to do on my sgs2?
I mean things like rooting and overclocking, apps and tweaks?
Everything is welcome.
Thanks !

Welcome mate i too am coming from a HD2, it was a superb phone and served me well for a year and a half but the GS2 is unbeatable
I would definitely root your phone, there is so much you CANT DO if you don't, it's entirely up to you if you flash a custom ROM as the stock ROM is good but personally i run Cognition 1.15 and this is definitely one of the best there is for the GS2, do a search on this forum for tips and tricks, superior battery life can be achieved if you follow a few tips given, set CPU is recommended but not totally required, calibrate your battery and download some apps like Battery Monitor, juice defender plus, system panel, CPU spy, root explorer, titanium backup most are paid apps but well worth getting especially Titanium backup and root explorer.
If you've any more questions ask away people on here generally are friendly and helpful.
Lol was something i was going to ask.also just got my s2 & also just come from my hd2.loving the speed of this machine and not customized it yet.

rooting it would be a good idea,,if u want to do stuff besides normal....and there is no need to overclock,,,,i dont think there is anything on android that this beast cant handle(1.2 Ghz dual core is more than enough for now),,people are under clocking this device to get better battery life,,,As for apps,it depends upon ur usage(if u r into ebook reading, download ezpdf reader,,if u r into mobile gaming,go to the gameloft website for hd games or market for normal ones,,etc,etc)....and for tweaks ,just search this forium,,u ll find a lot of useful stuff,,,
Godspeed.
Thanks for your replies guys!
Till now i have installed:
adobe reader
alarm clock plus
angry birds
antennas
antivirus
apps2sd (like i'm going to use it... uninstalled!)
battery monitor widget pro
beautiful widgets
compass
electrodroid
equalizer
es file explorer
flashlight alerts
gps status
gps test
greek eortologio (widget rocks)
launcher pro plus (looooooove it)
minimalistic text
miren browser
moboplayer (kinda reminds me of KMplayer)
network info II
phoneUsage (rocks too!)
phono
photoshop express
quick settings
quick pic
ringdroid
root check 2.8 (and it says that i dont have root )
smart keyboard pro
task manager
unistaller
winamp
x construct (my favourite)
I checked the forum and i couldnt find a step-by-step guide to root the sgs2 (woa! i feel like the first time i flashed a custom WM rom on my hd2! )
Could someone please point a guide?
Thanks again!
Once you root, I suggest you install these Root enabled apps:
1. MarketEnabler
2. Adfree
3. Root Explorer
4. Titanium Backup
Also these non-root apps are great:
ZDbox
1Password
iSyncr (to properly copy music including all ID3 tags)
MediaFix (incase any tags are still shown as "unknown")
I have many of those apps too.
Search mate there are a few different threads on rooting here is one.

What will i gain by rooting the phone?
I dont know the difference. The android roms i had on my HD2 were already rooted
You gain a roted phone and can choose your rom use rooted apps etc .
Or choose a custom rom from dev section with inbuilt root .
jje
Can i use chainfire3D on sgs2 or it causes problems on stock android?
rooting for sure since its easy. overclock not really needed, its so fast anyway
Ok fellas!
I decided to root my stock SGS2 and flash a custom rom.
Any suggestions ? Which roms are you using?
Recommend some please!
Don't worry mate whatever you do, this thread will probably get closed for being in the GENERAL section

Sony made a Play?
I do stuff with my play I can't describe on this board O.O
best things to do imo would be:
install .62 firmware
unlock bootloader(pay if u must)
install doomkernal, oc to 1.5ghz and undervolt to close to stock voltage.
install link2sd and titanium backup.
create an ext3/4 partition on ur sd card and configure link2sd to autolink to it.
install widgetsoid 2.x or something else which gives u notification toggles.
dump some roms to ur sd card
install mupen64/fpse/md.emu/neodroid/snes9x ex +others if u want.
congratulate yourself on having an amazing phone+ games console.

do you have to root it 1st then unlock the boot loader?,
then i can put different roms on it ?
what is the best way to root it as ive seen a few ways
my android version 2.3.4
kernal-2.6.32.9
buid-4.0.2.a.0.42
EDIT* rooted is done.
Everything you could do with your old android you can do with the play. Its an android.
You can also use the gamepad to play a few thousand games, same games as your other android except with the gamepad.
Also all the things like bootloader unlocking etc etc are not needed to enjoy this android phone.
If you wanted anything more beyond that then sorry, you went from android to android.
Lol this ain't an iPhone where you're given a little sandbox to play in, but not outside of... this is Android, meaning that its not a matter of "what can you do", it's "what do you want to do?"

Sorry, that was my attempt at humor. In all seriousness though, I would atleast put the camera mod on it, so you can use the "R" bumper to take pictures, but if your gonna throw a custom ROM on it, most ROMs have that mod included already, then throw the notification toggle mod on. Its really hard to make a list for you, cause it really depends on what your into.

Dude, this is an all-rounder, it's got anything you'd ever want from it.
A LED flash camera (torch), HD video recording, LED notification, nice screen (coming from SGS), stereo speakers, 2 microphones (for better call quality), good battery (if you get the .36 baseband), great music, it's Playstation certified WITH gamepad AND touchpad, GREAT GPS (Glonas stuff, google it) ... and the piece de resistance... it's an Android.
Think of all the possibilities... the sky is the limit!
P.S.: I love this old phone... it might not be the Galaxy Note in terms of performance, but i use it more than i would've used a Galaxy Note.

Asphalt 7 Note 2 Lag Fix - Modded DeviceConfig.xml

Hi, for unknown reason that Asphalt 7 Lag on Galaxy Note 2. It is smooth on Galaxy S3 with high detail graphics, while Galaxy Note 2 CPU+GPU is the same as Galaxy S3 and even faster. I took about 3 hours editing and testing DeviceConfig.xml. Asphalt 7 on Note 2 uses Galaxy S3 config or android_high in DeviceConfig.xml
After trials, I found the best config for Galaxy Note 2. I changed these setting.
use_hires_map from true to false -> road reflection effects are disabled. some building textures are blured. road textures in distant are blured.
use_high_quality_car_shader from false to true -> not sure what it did, but it doesn't affect framerates. Just trying to compensate low hires_map setting.
use_traffic_shadow from false to true -> Maybe enable traffic car shadow, but it doesn't affect framerates. Just trying to compensate low hires_map setting.
And the game framerate is silky smooth! If you prefer fluid framerate than graphic details. You should install this mod.
To install it
Please note that I have only tested on Asphalt 7 Google Play Version 1.04. Not sure it will work without modification on other versions.
1.Copy patch.1040.com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA7HM.obb from \GT-N7100\Phone\Android\obb\com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA7HM (Might be different path if you use DirectoryBind) to anywhere on your computer storage.
If you are trying to mod on another version. You will need to copy another obb file. For example modding 1.03, you will need to copy and edit patch.1030.com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA7HM.obb. Modding 1.01, you will need to copy and edit main obb : main.101.com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA7HM.obb
(But I'm not sure my mod will work with other versions than 1.04)
Backup the original .obb file in case you want to roll back this mod.
2.Rename file extension of .obb to .tar
3.Open it with WinRAR, Navigate to \data\DeviceConfig inside the .tar file.
4.Download my modded DeviceConfig.xml file from this post attachment, drag it and drop into WinRAR window opened .tar file in order to replace DeviceConfig.xml. Choose compression method as Store, and click OK.
5.Exit WinRAR and rename .tar to .obb
6.Copy newly modded .obb to replace the old .obb in \GT-N7100\Phone\Android\obb\com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA7HM
7.Open the game and enjoy lag free Asphalt 7, but with lower graphic details.

Really? There are some tracks like Shang Hai, Hawaii, Paris that lag badly to unplayable. Some tracks like Havana is smooth and playable. Search for note 2 asphalt 7 on youtube. There is a lot of gameplay video showing lag.
What game version are you running on?
Thanks
Hey, I tried buying the game from Gameloft Wapstore. It's even more expensive than Google Play Version. Its 1.03. And it is laggy like the Google Play version. So dont buy the Wapstore Version.

I m using 1.0.0 and it doesn't lags.
I tried 1.0.0. It lags like old. Going back to 1.0.4 with my mod.
Error in start up
Hi ninekaw9, I tried following your steps 1-by-1 but in my Note 2 but in start-up of Asphalt, it is looking for an internet connection (which is not required before), when I tried to connect via wifi it says please reinstall whole game.
Thank you so much for this.
It's sad that, while A7 is nowhere near NFS: MW graphics-wise (and otherwise), compromises like this have to be made. Shame on Gameloft.
A7 running smooth as butter.

That depends on why you rooted it. I'm a Linux person, so the first thing I did was to put Busybox on it so I can get a larger range of commands.
Titanium Backup for sure, since that's a great backup/restore tool. But, remember that the "sdcard" in the Gtab isn't removable. If you do backups (nandroid or Ti) you've got to pull them from internal storage in case you've got to recover. (I'm in that state now with a two month old nandroid.) :crying:
Wifi Tether is also another reason to root.
When I root a new device I usually start out by flashing a custom ROM. Then I get the "most-needed" root apps, like Titanium Backup, AdAway, DroidWall, AppAdmin, Voltage Control and Busybox installer. And that's pretty much all I use root for. I might also flash some cool mod, like AC!D Sound or AwesomeBeats, or a custom kernel
As for games, You didn't mention what types You like, but here's a short list of games I enjoy on my Tab:
- Deadtrigger
- ShadowguneadZone
- GTA Vice City
- Great Little War Game
- Great Big War Game
I found Asphalt 7, DeadSpace and MassEffect:Infiltrator to be very laggy...

I would recommend to stay away from sites like that, as they distribute illegal pirated apps, that may (read: most-likely) contain malware. Never use a pirated root-app, as You actually don't know what You give root-access.
Malware with root-access = You're gonna have a bad time !

Me am not developer but a user and owner of this model! As a user, there are just much restrictions from stock OS such as carriers limitations, limited features, and all official roms available are according to respective countries carrier and lack of lots of great tweaks and apps. Although root is available, but its limited as few tweaks that I can play with like V6 Supercharger, link2sd etc. That's why I'm always looking forward to customs! They are great! I know that why me nv grab hold of one that can be customized is due to of course simple, cost restriction. This is jus a great, budgeted, with potential (underclocked), fast, 4G device available in market.
To keep things short pls devs just look alittle in this device, and if customized eg, roms, kernels , I believe that other models with the same chipset and GPU can benefit as well! Models like the new Mega 6.3 and also unreleased S4 Mini! They are all using the same Qualcomm MSM8930 Snapdragon 400!!!
Yeah! Go mid-range devices!!! :fingers-crossed:
Thanks tanrsquare, will add that info to the inicial post.
What about CWM?
I suppose you know that without a working (backup, restore) custom recovery, flashing any rom may permanently brick our phone, so, the next step after root shod be CWM Recovery.
Any news about a working one? Saw that the i-437 has one already...
Info about CWM for i8730
Hey, doarmga... I'm quite agree with u. A CWM is quite an essential for customizing ROMs, without it, ODIN will be needed if there are going to be problems, and that's bad as it increases the binary counter... omg.
Me too, am one of the guys looking ard for i8730 recovery which is stable and usable, but I can predict tht none exists yet currently. I have search the web as well as XDA and I came to this site: builder(dot)clockworkmod(dot)com/ ...
This allows people to build recovery but then there are details tht are required and catch me no balls haha... Example lik recovery.fstab, graphics.c which I think this should somehow that are needed for the tool to work properly before the CWM recovery can be generated. I think this is similar to the thread -> showthread.php?t=2285898tht someone has tried.

You can obtain a recovery.fstab when you create your own CWM online then snooping around inside the downloaded zip file. Also there is the existence of a vold.fstab but I don't think that would be of any help.
About the binary counter, why don't you use TriangleAway? I can confirm it works.
P.S. LOL I never knew someone would actually read my recovery thread, let alone quote it. Heh. Thanks, people.

hello, in a couple of weeks i will get this phone, i have one question, how is the display? i`m asking because of the low resolution on a big screen.
Ok, now some serious talk... we can get a temporary CWM recovery, sadly some samsung phones have the recovery partition on the kernel, so you need to build a new kernel with CWM, sadly i am not a kernel developer, and i don`t have to much knowledge. For overclock we need a custom kernel... the only thing i know is to build roms, but first we need a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP. I think i can make a temporary CWM but more tests i will make when my phone will get to me

For the screen, overall looks Ookaayy is what I can say. It may not be as sharp as those high def display n colours looks better with higher brightness I felt. And yup for videos using stock player, mostly able to stretch fully, covering the whole screen except for some with weird resolution. Youtube videos mostly can cover the whole screen except for some old music videos with low resolutions, a little borders at the sides may be notice, but the top n bottoms doesn't have any. For high res like 1080p is able to cover the screen. Words n Clock n widgets seems to appear a little bigger n stretched. Gaming still fine n temple run 2 is really quite sharp that I love its graphics... :cyclops: But, then when open up a SWF game or app using an SWF player, some are unable to output full display, show only mostly the center and sides surrounding it being cut off... That's my experience about its screen but yup looks okay though. :silly:

Yay! Now we have another reason to not sell the phone.
P.S. )If this info helps in any way, haha) The Express I8730, like some Samsung phones, follows an mmc format. The recovery partition is /dev/block/mmcblk0p18 (so if I want to flash a custom recovery.img, all I have to do is pull up a terminal and type
Code:
su
dd if=/storage/extSdCard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
* In this example, I located my img on the external SD. If yours is on the internal then use /sdcard instead.
Resolution is 480x800.

P.S. )If this info helps in any way, haha) The Express I8730, like some Samsung phones, follows an mmc format.
I agree. But how in the world did you get SWF games to play? Adobe says Android 4 onwards are not supported by Flash anymore.

you can still install adobe flash player apk, just search here on xda
on my s advance Kernel and recovery (stock or custom) are in the same partition. So they must come in package, some other phones can install it separatly, because it is not connected to kernel partition. Until i get my hands on the phone i can`t be sure, but a temporary recovery is posible on stock kernel, what temp recovery means? after you reboot you lose the CWM, but for example if u make a back-up after you reflash CWM you can restore your backup.
Don`t get your hopes too high about CM, it requires allot of knowledge, in my s advance is a team of 8 developer... and they dont have yet a stable release. I can look into it but it will take time. What i can develop more easy? a ROM based on stock witch will have 0 bugs , but first CWM
Regarding CWM could someone provide me recovery.fstab? using root browser it can be found in the etc folder.
Flash on JB; about the screen.
I've searched google about flash on android 4.1 and there are quite a handful of tutorials about it. Can't post links yet but if you google it, it will show up. Basically you have to download a flash apk located somewhere on xda and install it. Also, you need a browser with flash support such as Boat browser, Dolphin or Firefox. (Chrome and the standard android 4.1 browser don't allow flash at all.)
About the screen i can honestly say that even though it has the exact same resolution as my "old" Galaxy S Plus, it looks crisper on the 4.5 display on the Express. Don't know how they managed to do this, maybe something to do with the updated pentile matrix found in SuperAMOLED Plus (3 subpixels per pixel vs. 2 subpixels and a shared one between two adjacent pixels in the "old" SAMOLED).

Thanks a lot, I managed to find the APK. It does look crisper, but the only reason i have for Flash is Flash games. And Opera Classic has built-in Flash, so I don't need to worry about my browser.

Errmmm... I had jus send my phone for repair becos of some gyro issue... I wonder anybody encounter this is tht about the 'Motion' feature in the Settings. When I activates it, the sensor jus keep moving to the right that I dun even have to move the device haha... This cause the pic in Gallery to move constantly and icon in main menu to jus keep moving. Strange thing is that it happens occasionally like let's say 1 wk, 7 days, about less than 3 days hav this prob, then the rest of the days works normally, in other words functionable n this keeps repeating. It makes me cracking my mind if it's a hardware or software issue n tis is jus weird... I tried lots of times on calibration n restarting device but still no luck. Or maybe jus for a short while haha... I heard of no sound after flashing another stock rom, but mine's jus the original stock. Ok... Sry about the nagging but mayb jus to share abit. :crying:
And for recovery.fstab file, I'll retrieve n upload it after collection of the phone... maybe in a few day's time sry abt that!

thanks, i managed to find it
if someone can test temporary CWM http://d-h.st/OBd
just put update.zip to sdcard, reboot to stock recovery, flash update from external storage, then reboot and hold down buttons for recovery.
tomorrow morning i will finish negotiating with my carrier, if all ends well, next week i will have the phone the only down side is after next week i will go on holiday with my family for 10 days
p.s how does this phone performs on high end games like modern combat 4, nfs most wanted, gta vice city, the dark knight rises?
from what i read on the internet the Qualcomm MSM8930 Snapdragon 400 Dual-core 1.2 GHz Krait and Adreno 305 is very good, it can beat some quad core CPUs i saw a benchmark and the scores are allmost like the S3 (because of screen resolution, but still, pretty slick )
Are there any current WIP roms for this specific device. I remember searching the entire forum for this phone a couple months back and there was little to no information, though the motochopper guide existed besides for the obvious root privileges there were no custom roms for the phone.

Yay! Am trying it now.

SO it seems there is no custom recovery for the device... I just got it a few days ago thinking WOW what a good phone and it also looks like the S3.. All of my phones have either been jailbroken or rooted. Turns out the phone has no recovery section. It's in the Kernel, so therefor you will need to build a whole new kernel.. I would love to have this device rooted with a recovery to install roms and such. I will also love to donate for the project if anyone does it.
ok, good news, i signed the contract with my carrier so the phone will get to me next week
