Sony made a Play?
I do stuff with my play I can't describe on this board O.O
best things to do imo would be:
install .62 firmware
unlock bootloader(pay if u must)
install doomkernal, oc to 1.5ghz and undervolt to close to stock voltage.
install link2sd and titanium backup.
create an ext3/4 partition on ur sd card and configure link2sd to autolink to it.
install widgetsoid 2.x or something else which gives u notification toggles.
dump some roms to ur sd card
install mupen64/fpse/md.emu/neodroid/snes9x ex +others if u want.
congratulate yourself on having an amazing phone+ games console.

do you have to root it 1st then unlock the boot loader?,
then i can put different roms on it ?
what is the best way to root it as ive seen a few ways
my android version 2.3.4
kernal-2.6.32.9
buid-4.0.2.a.0.42
EDIT* rooted is done.
Everything you could do with your old android you can do with the play. Its an android.
You can also use the gamepad to play a few thousand games, same games as your other android except with the gamepad.
Also all the things like bootloader unlocking etc etc are not needed to enjoy this android phone.
If you wanted anything more beyond that then sorry, you went from android to android.
Lol this ain't an iPhone where you're given a little sandbox to play in, but not outside of... this is Android, meaning that its not a matter of "what can you do", it's "what do you want to do?"

Im just gonna beat the already dead horse here but... You can do anything any Android can do, we just do it in style!... lol I use mine to clean my house, wash my car, make my breakfast, and to save the world from the zombie apocalypse! Oh did i mention, it also makes phone calls! what a trip!
Sorry, that was my attempt at humor. In all seriousness though, I would atleast put the camera mod on it, so you can use the "R" bumper to take pictures, but if your gonna throw a custom ROM on it, most ROMs have that mod included already, then throw the notification toggle mod on. Its really hard to make a list for you, cause it really depends on what your into.

Dude, this is an all-rounder, it's got anything you'd ever want from it.
A LED flash camera (torch), HD video recording, LED notification, nice screen (coming from SGS), stereo speakers, 2 microphones (for better call quality), good battery (if you get the .36 baseband), great music, it's Playstation certified WITH gamepad AND touchpad, GREAT GPS (Glonas stuff, google it) ... and the piece de resistance... it's an Android.
Think of all the possibilities... the sky is the limit!
P.S.: I love this old phone... it might not be the Galaxy Note in terms of performance, but i use it more than i would've used a Galaxy Note.

So earlier today I was in math class and the kid next to me has an iphone 4. he starts bragging about his retina display (LOL) and how his graphics are so far ahead of the Vibrants. This is my question: The iphone has games with amazing graphics--and as far as I know, there are zero games on the android market that are as smooth and crisp looking. I know my display is better and I want to be able to show him so he can stop bragging to everyone on campus about how he has the best phone available. So do you guys know of any games that will show off the Vibrants glorious screen?
The Dungeon Defenders: First Wave game is built on the Unreal engine, the same one that makes some of those cool games on there. That's probably your best bet.
Dungeon Defenders or Raging Thunder 2.
Well angry birds shows much better on the vibrant. Nfs shift is a good one to.

and then you can tell him the developer will be porting it to iphone "soon"
Dungeon defenders is the only option really all the other good looking games are multi platform

Dungeon Defenders and GT Racing Academy (not in the market, you have to get it from Gamefly) are probably the 2 best looking games on my Vibrant.

Ever since I got my G1, the thing that has been synonomous with my android phone is retro gaming with emulators. It's actually one of the biggest reasons I will only buy an android phone with a keyboard, ergo I upgraded to Vision.
Shout outs for Earthbound and Chrono Trigger anyone?
If you've never played those games, do yourself a hugely enjoyable favour and buy super gnes or snesoid from the market and start playing them now!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I've got the roms on my evo. Haven't tried any emulators on the g2 yet. chrono trigger its one of my favorite games of all time. Earthbound is just goofy.
Swyped from my evo 4g using the xda app.
Did you ever finish earthbound? It gets pretty messed up by the end lol. I've used both the *oid emulators and super gnes. IMO super gnes works better; the music keeps playing even though sometimes things get slowed down. Snesoid would do weird things with the sound when the game would slow down. Perhaps it's been fixed since then.
One note is to always save games via emulator, but also save ~inside~ the game too. That way the savegame from within the game is on your sd card in case you install a new rom or need to wipe for another reason.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Never got to far on earthbound but I did finish trigger. Also secrect of the mana was a great game. I don't have the patients to finish rpg's like I use to but they don't make rpg's like they used to.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
It's true, they don't make them like that any more. About 2/3rds of the way through earthbound it gets all psychedellic and psychological and has a really gratifying end. I actually just finished it right now haha.
Maybe I'll do secret of mana next, since I've had that rom on my phone for a while
But speaking of roms, I'm off to try the latest gingervillain! I'm pretty hooked on virtuous, but last time I checked in on what the villain was up to, it was quite promising!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
The only thing I really don't like about emu's on the G2 right now is the way the key mapping works. I wanted my D pad to be:
UP = Q
Left = .com
Right = A
Down = menu
But it wont let me choose those buttons. So I have to use W-S-Z-A. It's easier to track where your thumb is by the edge of the phone.
I wont be buying the game gripper because I have a case. I've thought about buying one anyways and modding it to fit but I really don't want to just throw away $20 right now.

Final fantasy 7 beats em all.
Ff7 is where all the retards started playing because of the 3d graphics.
Ff6 had a better plot, story line, and probably the best soundtrack of any video game ever. Just look at any "greatest of all time games" list, sabin would slam cloud game anyday with a bumrush hahah
US ff2 was also really really good.

I wasnt slamming on the graphics, I didnt like the story. If you like rpgs play jpn ff6/us ff3. It beats ff7 on every "best games of all time" list ive seen.
Alot of people say the ff7 is one of the most overrated games of all time.
Then again most of the time it comes down to which games you played as a kid. SNES was and still is the best system for me, followed by N64. Not nes since I wasnt really skilled enough at that age. Born in 84.
No, but I'm always on the lookout for a new one. Thanks!
I decided to play Mother 3, since I just finished earthbound, but I'm going to play secret of mana probably next. Then terranigma? I like having games to look forward to

Classic Games
Earthbound - great game, ending was amazing... Had never heard of it until a friend of mine spent like $40 on ebay to buy a copy!
Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore, FF3 (FF6) etc.. All Square (now SquareEnix) and all great games. When Square said they were not making games for the N64, but for Sony's PlayStation, I got a PS
Other RPGs (aside from the epic Link to the Past ). Lufia series (starts with Fortress of Doom), Breath of Fire, RoboTrek (very cartoony and 'PokeMon'-like... Developed by the same company that made Terranigma)
Don't forget the original phantasy star on genesis and sega cd. I liked the first super mario rpg. That was goofy but fun.

Its actually FPse on the market and does circles around psx4 droid .Playing fff9 full speed. Post games working full speed for reference!
Edit-
Alright this is going to be simple.
My evo-
Mikfroyo 4.4
Netarchy-toast 4.3.2
Setcpu- smart ass- overclock 1036
16gb class 4
Games tested
- Marvel vs Capcom
-FF9
-Resident evil 3
-Digimon world
FPse at its current state is not much better than early version of psx4droid v2, though it plays cutscenes great, because it struggles to emulate at full speed .
M vs C is a great example since the opening scene and player selection run full speed, but hits a wall at actual game play. In FF9 I am in Oilvert in disc three so the game play seems great . Then in RE3 THE WHOLE GAME AND EMULATOR CRASHED at the beginning cutscene of game. Digimon world started and ran great.
The controls are very well made and much more friendly to big thumbed people, the only complaint would be that you must activate through the input menu the L1L2, R1R2, select , and start buttons for landscape mode for different games.
Note also that this emulator doesn't YET stretch the image fullscreen.
Over all it will take a few updates to polish it but I am confident this developer is headed in the right direction. How this helps some one.
meh, my psp can do that
I think you just got punk'd
Edit:
Wow, great performance. I think zod just got served!

I've been using psx4droid for a while and i really like it. This one though has some serious potential. I tried street fighter alpha 3 and the first thing i noticed is how much better it looked than on psx4droid. However, it ran much slower, im not sure if i can change any settings to fix that. I was amazed by how well it ran rival schools though. Psx4droid runs it but its really slow.
Couple things i dont like about fpse though. There doesnt seem to be haptic feedback ftom button presses. I need haptic feedback.
Also, on fpse the keys arent very forgiving. What i mean is that you need to press the button precisely or it wont register, thats kind of a problem. Psx4droid registers my input even if its a little off.
I cant get start, select and the shoulder buttons in landscape mode. Thats gotta get fixed.
All in all, this emulator has some issues, but it is a first release and has some big potential.
Keep the reviews coming. I don't want to buy it because of that 15 minute window.
I downloaded it just to try it and compare it to psx4driod 1.7 and v2 and I gotta say it still needs some work fsce (wateva the spelling is) is kool but dosen't play ff9 at full speed like psx4driod does....It has potential after a few updates and the ui needs to cleaned up menus look wak to me...just my 2 cents

Had the same issue. Download Autopopstation4 and read the readme. Trying it now.
Update: Works like a charm. Tried this with Final Fantasy V, Metal Gear Disk 1, as well as Legend of Dragoon disk 1. Go nuts...
Update2: Autopopstation does not work on multi-disk eboots. Still looking into that....
Let me start off by saying that I used to use psx4droid on some previous roms and it worked fairly. Definitely not a genuine playing experience, but it worked enough to show it off a little bit. Then when I jumped ship to MIUI it stopped working, no big deal. I just stopped using it. Then I tried this and what do you know.. works like a charm. I messed around with kernels a bit to get the wiimote working and voila.. my rig:
MIUI 1.2.11
Cm snap latest (7.5?)
HW Version 003
The first thing I tried out was Crash Bandicoot. The title and intro scenes flew by at well over 100fps so I decided to turn on the framelimiter in the options. I played the first level and a half and to my almost disbelief.. solid 56-60fps constantly. Very few drops to mid-high 40s. Sure I only played a few minutes, but I was definitely impressed.
Second game I tried was Spyro. Again, runs very smooth at a constant 56-60 during gameplay. Drops during cutscenes, but the gameplay itself is flawless. Again.. incredibly surprised.
Third game.. and this is where things get a bit rough. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. The game itself while you run and jump around runs at 45+ fps but it's definitely playable. It's not perfect 1:1 of what I checked out on youtube, but it plays. I skipped the beginning cutscene hastily, but there are some scenes generated with the games actual engine that you can't skip. This is where it all went downhill. There is an ominous voice speaking to you as you come back as the soul reaver or something along those lines.. I couldn't make it out cause the framerate kept dropping and his voice would skip. This drove me nuts. The sound emulation is generally not great on this emulator, but this game particularly was bad.
Other stuff:
For some reason, the settings don't save for me. I have to set them every single time I start a new game. Hopefully this is not a product of my setup and of the app itself.
I was able to play full screen. I saw someone post earlier that it won't stretch to the full screen, but it seemed to play perfectly across my entire screen beautifully. Just pointing that out.
This got me so excited for gaming on my evo that I actually ordered a Classic Controller Pro from amazon.. I can see myself using my evo much more once it gets to me for gaming. Very excited!
Battery drain was insane. Literally a % a minute. Although don't take this for much as I JUST flashed the kernel and usually I do see quick drain the first day or so of usage.
EDIT: My next game will be Tekken 3 only because I remember having such a hard time emulating it on a stock hd2 about a year ago and once on my own Evo. If this emulates it nicely... well... We have a winrar on our hands.
Updating with a new post otherwise no one will see this. I tried out street fighter 3 alpha and surprisingly enough, it runs like crap. It maintains around 40 fps but unless it runs at 60 it's just not smooth enough to pull off combos and all. Tekken 3 won't play at all past the first logo, the game just crashes. It came as a bin.ecm which I renamed to just a bin to get it to with which might be the problem

Fruit Ninja THD is pretty nice, but not enough changes other than having multiplayer (it's splitscreen, not online)
I'm trying Samurai II: Vengeance right now. I'll report back after. So far it seems good.
@whosdaman: download the Tegra Zone app off the market.
Where do you get the Tegra Games?
Alright, I've had enough time to test out Samurai II: Vengeance and the verdict is it's good. It's not amazing, but it's very smooth, seems like an interesting story, and time consuming. However, it is the classic "Hit, hit, slice, roll" controls that can seem repetitive if that's not your style. Otherwise, for a gamer like myself I think it's worth it.
Fruit Ninja THD isn't worth the upgrade, but if you've never tried Fruit Ninja before, get THD immediately!

Holy crap does it work flawlessly. That is kinda pathetic for the Tegra 2 that our phones can play their games effortlessly with a hacked opengl driver. I thought the games would at least be chugging a little bit, but they are perfect. At least Samurai II: Vengeance is.

Agreed! Although, this shouldn't be shocking. The reason why these games are meant for dual-core is because of the CPU usage these games use, and their ability to drain the battery pretty quickly if you play for a decent amount of time. Our phones do run the games well, however it does take up a lot of CPU usage, which is why Dual-core is more efficient since it can balance the memory between each processor without stressing either one.
But, does that really matter if you're home or at work next to a charger trying to find a way to pass some time? Of course not. Which is why this is amazing.
Chainfire is a god. Almost makes me want to find out what phone he has and switch to that. He just singlehandedly saved Android a HUGE amount of fragmentation. Seeing developers make games and apps that could only run on a specific hardware setup was worrying to me more than any other sort of fragmentation.

i figured everything out...i started over by restoring my nandroid backup...im running urbanlegend rom and i think it already has journaling on (im not sure and I don't know how to check if its on or not)...everything I flashed the zip for the "journaling on", my phone bootlooped...so i restored my old backup and just ran the app and everything works perfectly now...the chainfire app will works now and i am currently playing samurai ( a bit repetitive but a great game)
[email protected] i think this chainfire guy might have solved the android gaming issue also (hopefully)...being able to play games for different processers is awesome and i hope our galaxy s can keep up with the new processers and games that come out next year
the lack of a nvidia chipset is the only bump that is stopping me from getting a Galx2
This isn't a ratings topic or a top whatever topic...This is a topic of what game you just can't get enough of. Don't get me wrong there's a lot of great games out there. I'm curious of the diversity of the crowd/ XP community.
For me...its Minecraft. I started playing it on android & after uninstalling to check out other games, I always bring it back. I like how smooth it runs. Its the one game that I have truly never had a problem with...but enough about my choice.

MMMMMMMMMMinecraft!
And Asphalt 7, but since i do development of roms, i mainly change roms so i dont stick with much gamez.
Being a classic gamer, I bought my xperia play mainly for emulators. The first console game I ever owned was Sonic 1 for the master system. Even these can always pick that up and not get bored
I found that the xperia play is great with NES and GBA emulators, maybe I'll try to get a SNES one soon as well.
pokemon FTW !!!
Pokemon and emulator gaming.

My Boy! is my favourite. The UI is tidy and easy to follow. It has the ability to disable linear filtering. Cheat support was included with the latest update. I get full speed in all the games I play without needing to use frameskip.
VGBA has good compatibility but the UI sucks and is battery heavy. Also the developer is employing dirty tricks like preventing people with LP installed from using the app.
GBA.emu you would expect to be good but performs very poorly on the Xperia PLAY and other single core devices. You get lag every 10-15s with frameskip on, and is slow as hell/unplayable with frameskip off.
Gameboid used to be my favourite until My Boy! replaced it. Both Gameboid and My Boy! are similar in the UI and performance. My Boy! is slightly better in both those areas, and seeing as Gameboid is no longer being developed, it made sense to buy My Boy!.
Sonic episodes 1 & 2
I allways go back to them!!
Draw Something... Yea yea yea, make fun of me, I keep uninstalling it because nobody plays it. I always go back to installing it after a few weeks without it because I feel like playing with someone. Nobody plays it anymore, so I uninstall it. Repeat process.
Minebuilder. Much more advanced than PE. IMO.
