1, you must become a member of that site to download
2.Do not follow the QB king video in post 3, it is meant for the old tutorial which has been updated...
3.the tutorial is only 6 short posts long from the top.
4. Worked great for Me

Registration to other sites are against the rules. Qbking77 has 2 youtube videos to root FC09 that work just fine.

Rooting EB13

Can EB13 be rooted using z4root? If not how can I root it?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
No, z4 has been patched.
But over in the dev threads you can use One Click 2.5.5
Sorry I'm new to this. Can u provide a link
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Can't post a link (not enough posts, but w/e)
You can find what you are looking for in the following section:
Samsung Epic 4G > Epic 4G Android Development
The thread name is:
One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! v2.5.5 Now has ClockworkMod Redirector!
Normally no, but I'm heavily caffeinated this morning, so your lucky.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Man... After BT put so much effort into the cookbook thread. I suggest you read it. It's full of awesome stuff for customizing your Epic.

You don't need to wait for a video. There are several well-written step-by-step tutorials posted here. You just need to expend a small amount of effort to read them. Come on, Bro! You can do it!

[ROOT][FC09]

Hey guys!
I have a root method for the OG Epic on Android 2.3.6 FC09!
All the requirments are that you install ODIN from the link below and download the proper files from the links below as well!!
Step one) put your device into Download Mode
Step 2) Connect to your computer and make sure ODIN recognizes your device
Step 3) Flash the Clockworkmod.tar.md5. Make sure EVERYTHING is unchecked INCLUDING AUTOREBOOT!!!!
Step 4) Once ODIN does its thang, unplug your phone and pull the battery
Step 5) Now reboot into CWM Recovery by pressing and holding the power button, camera, and volume down button until the capacitive buttons at the bottom show
Step 6) Now locate the ROM.zip. It should be called DeodexedFC09.zip
Step 7) Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache Partition, Wipe Dalvik Cache, and if you want Wipe Batt Stats
Step 8) Now reboot, and you should be running Stock Rooted FC09!
Enjoy!!

Thanks for trying to help the community, and welcome to the Epic forum
As you can see, some of the old timers like to pounce on the new posters, so please take it all in stride
Ummm...hi...welcome here...we are all rooted here and have been for a long time. It sounds like you are just writing out the instructions in qbking77's video using my FC09 deodexed ROM to root. Same thing but thanks for trying.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Greatly appreciated! If you've got that down...try learning more! There is lots out there to learn! For instance trying different roms and kernals and see what you can find that someone hasn't or learn to build app(I'm working on one). Skys the limits....Always Challenge Yourself, even if you complete one thing.
Thanks for helping the Community, someone will find this helpful!

Lol, finally our Savior has arrived and taught us all how to root our phones! I thought it could never be done! Haha, jokes aside, thanks for trying to help and welcome to OG epic boot camp.

With this thread and the necessary hazing required for newbies, I am tempted to ask what your next thread may be? How to install ICS on the Samsung Epic? (Hazing complete)

If memory serves; didn't Mkasick write a zip that prevented the stock recovery overwrite? This way, you could leave the "auto reboot" box checked in Odin when rooting? I seem to remember a follow-up QBK77 video chronicling such an event...
If u wanna keep the hazing going go ahead. But I'm not a newbie. Lol. I'll probably post a how to root the galaxy s3 tutorial

When I was looking for the new method the only thing I found the specifically talked about root access was the video. I know that there is a thread in development but you have to dig into the thread a bit since it's not stated in the OP.

OK guys I've learned a lot in the past 12 hours. I appreciate all of the help. My question, is it easier just to download cyanogenmod on the rom manager app than downloading it thru the website?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
I would just go to the thread in the Original Development section on this forum, follow the direct link and download the latest nightly - I have experience with other devices but, after die research on here, bought my S4 this evening and had CM running ten minutes after I got home. You can do it too!

Good deal, you graduated No seriously, download it direct from the site. This insures a good copy. Very easy setup, so go for it.

Now as far as any OTA updates i want/need, what is the protocol in getting them?
You can't get them on a custom rom
I forget what I read on a custom recovery and rooted--getting older--
I think you need to go back to stock--someone can confirm
I haven't Googled that yet either
There were some rootkeeper apps that were used on my other phones, don't know what works here
I never took OTA's after rooted and flashing my other phones as dev's seemed to have updates faster than my carrier

Generally, the newer firmware versions that get pushed out as OTA updates will be incorporated into custom Touchwiz roms, such as ShoStock and Mint Jelly. However, if you flash CyanogenMod or any other AOSP-based rom such as SlimBean or AOKP, OTA updates will be completely meaningless. It's a different world altogether.
Either way, my advice is the same: Don't mess with OTA's. At best, they could give you the same features as a custom rom. At worst, they could kill the Loki exploit and lock your bootloader for good.
