2.2 has began to roll out in Europe. Of course we know that they have the international version but I think people are neglecting to realize that their press release states "north america" will receive it soon as well. I think we all know what phones they are referring to.
I don't know about you but I'm excited.

My gps and lag were both fixed in JI6. I highly doubt they would take a step back.

I think you need to practice reading.
"The Android 2.2 upgrade wil be available from the mid of October 2010 in the Nordic region and gradually rolled out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, North America, Africa and rest of the world."
That pretty much means all of their devices.

Guy, where the heck have you been? Samsung released the JI6 update for people to download ahead of waiting for T-Mobile. They release majority if their updates via kies and even made a special mini kies just for us.
Please, at least know what the heck is going on before you bring your skepticism.

This is for the international Galaxy S (i9000). There are people in North America that have them so it makes sense to push the update here. We are going to have to wait for T-Mobile to push it.
This does give me hope that it is getting closer though.
It actually sounds promising. ..we might get it before Christmas.. and, yes t-mobile sends the OTA, but guess who makes the updates...

You must be new to this.
Unless they specifically refer to our devices, they're not including us. North America i9000 devices more likely refers to the Canadian Vibrant which is closer to to the standard i9000.
There are some significant differences between our devices which would preclude us from being included in the i9000 rollout.

Thank you! This guy is so one sided he does not see that it does not include us.
First, the official press release states "Samsung GALAXY S." It does not say only I9000, it just so happens that they are the first to get it.
Secondly, our phones are still "Samsung GALAXY S" phones, or have you forgotten? Just because they slapped a label on it does not mean it does not fall under the Galaxy S line.
So Samsung's press release states that their Android 2.2 GALAXY S update is ready and will begin rolling out to a North America and the rest of the world. Are we not to assume they our phones are Galaxy S phones, that we are in North America, or even part of the World?
Be a skeptic all you want, but these updates are not far off. There was already a Froyo leak for the Captivate so they were being worked on. Whether or not T-Mobile does an OTA doesn't even matter at this point. Once it is leaked or released from Samsung then we can have it on our phones in some form.
And thanks for calling me a noob, oh bright and genius one. Hope it made you feel better.

Your right our phones are a Galaxy s phone.but its a sub phone. This refers to the build I9000Jpm, I9000 being the ORIGINAL Phone!
Bottom Line.
you people arguing over the way this update will come are missing the point.
This means the devs will get to see a galaxy s froyo rom and it will help them out immensely. CM and others who have been having trouble getting froyo to run on our phones will be able to look at this and use it as a sort of road map. Who cares if t-mo or samsung will be releasing an ota or kies update for our vibrants? The vast majority of the people here aren't going to be satisfied with a stock rom.
Lets just say its coming for my questions sake...
If I rooted the Vibrant and didnt change roms or do anything fancy, will it receive OTA updates? How do OTA updates work w/ rooted phone?

Ok, you're right. Hey guys, listen to Blader. He knows best. We shouldn't expect Froyo until sometime next year because that's how long it is going for them to modify the 2.2 code. We know our phones are completely different from the original so basically they have to start all the way over from scratch. I'm talking Linux. Hopefully they will be done with the process before 2012. Don't expect any leaks anything or either. Samsung doesn't do that.

http://www.theverge.com/2012/3/12/2...-4-0-update-korea-today-sweden-poland-hungary
"As promised, Samsung is finally rolling out Android 4.0 to Galaxy S II users in South Korea today, and has also announced the first details of European availablity. Poland, Sweden, and Hungary will also be getting the update today, with more countries on the way — and the UK could be one of the next up. A tweet from Brendan Arndt of UK carrier Three has revealed that their final build of Ice Cream Sandwich is currently undergoing internal testing."
I'm sure all of you know what this means for us Note users. Can't be much longer now before we see ICS. Looks like Samsung might make good on its estimate for ICS delivery.
Taken from Twitter
Well March 10 came and went without the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II, but hey what’s a few extra days? If you remember, we posted that earlier today a tweet was pulled by SK Telecom announcing that ICS would arrive on March 13. It was pulled because Samsung wanted to make the official announcement, which they just did via Twitter and Facebook. Here’s what they said on Facebook:
We’re thrilled to announce that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be served to GALAXY S II users in the European countries including Poland, Hungary and Sweden, as well as Korea today, and gradually roll out to other markets.
ICS for GALAXY Note, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Tab 8.9 and 10.1 will follow soon.
In addition, we’ll also offer Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware upgrades for GALAXY S, GALAXY Tab 7″, GALAXY S Plus, GALAXY S SCL (Super Clear LCD) and GALAXY W from end March. The firmware upgrades for GALAXY S, for example, include Face Unlock, Snapshot, Photo Editor, and others.
The availability and scheduling of the software update and specific models upgradeable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and wireless carriers’ requirements.
I would expect to see the Galaxy Note and others to get ICS by May. If you’re in the U.S., you’re probably wondering when ICS will make its way stateside. Unfortunately I don’t have any confidence that we will get a taste until at least the Summer.
Also the Gingerbread firmware update for the Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab, etc. is quite interesting in that Face Unlock and Photo Editor will make it’s way to these devices. It’s unlikely these devices will ever see ICS, but at least Samsung is trying to bring some its features to these devices.
Source - TalkAndroid
ICS in the USA is at the hands of the CARRIERS. I wouldn't count on Verizon or AT&T releasing it unless it snows in July LOL.
Another reason to buy full price, international versions. Most will get any updates way before (if ever) a carrier branded version.
Heck, I got my note in late December and have had 3 updates (GB). The carrier notes have had how many updates? Not sure, but are they even on 2.3.6?

Cosmetically different.
Does not seem to add much in terms of function for most users.
Imilka's asop is something worth trying out. It has somebugs but not a big issue. However still find GB roms to be better and faster.
@Taptalk-GalaxyNote
New browser and hardware acceleration alone makes me want ics, not to mention the other features.
Shame it's got touchwiz all over it.

I really dont understand what makes Samsung take so long for Note, if they have already done with SII. My opinion: except the S Pen app remaining things on Note are similar to SII. Porting S Pen should not take much time.

It looks like the days of Qualcomm-based mutant derpbeasts are over.
http://vr-zone.com/articles/samsung...ipset-shows-up-in-korean-galaxy-s3/16442.html
There is finally an LTE/GSM dual-mode modem available from someone other than Qualcomm.
People have occasionally said "the Exynos 4 Quad isn't compatible with LTE" - This is false. Nothing in the CPU makes it incompatible/compatible - the only issue was that until recently, Qualcomm was the only company that had LTE/GSM combo basebands available, and Qualcomm won't sell their modems to someone not using their CPU.
A non-Qualcomm baseband chip changes everything.
I probably should've noticed this long ago - but CMC221 references have been cropping up in Samsung's source releases for a while now.
Edit: CMC221 seems to be an older chipset, there's a lot of conflicting info on exactly what is going on. Either way, it looks like Samsung now has access to SOME sort of baseband chipset that isn't from Qualcomm, OR Qualcomm has changed policies and is now selling LTE basebands that can be paired with non-Qcom CPUs.

Unknown. I need to do a lot of research. I've been really angry with AT&T's handling of Samsung devices, to the point where my plan until today was to ditch them for Straight Talk combined with international unlocked devices when my contract was up.
Nonmutilated LTE devices might change this... I'm still not sure, it still remains to be seen whether this new generation of LTE chips doesn't have the severe battery life penalties older LTE implementations did. Also, I'm not eligible for an upgrade until February and I really don't want to give the asshats at AT&T money for a full-price device just for a feature I likely won't use.
If ONLY the AT&T variant is capable of AT&T LTE - Maybe (I live in the boonies, I won't see LTE for a long time)
If the international variant supports the AT&T LTE bands - Hell no for the AT&T variant (say no to unjustified carrier mangling), possibly for the international variant.

Current rumors indicate it has the quad.
They appear 'hardware equivalent' enough that I wonder if you can flash international ROMS onto it.
I guess that's a pipe dream though, since it has a different model #, implying different hardware somewhere.
The N7000 was fun that you could flash different country's roms onto it - less waiting for new features.
I guess at this point I guess it'll mainly depend on when it gets released to AT&T.

It may be similar enough to only require a porting package.
For example, these were the differences between the SGH-I777 and GT-I9100:
I777 had a different call audio interface to the modem - I9100 modems and kernels would not work, but only a few kernel changes were needed to fix the kernel side of things.
I777 had a different microphone configuration - Swapping libaudio out would fix this initially, with ICS I reverse engineered it to the point where only a kernel change was needed
I777 had NFC - If you didn't mind it not working (note: did not work on I777 firmwares ANYWAY), didn't need to do anything when flashing an I9100 firmware. Actually, thanks to the I9100P it was easier to get NFC working on I9100 ports than I777 bases...
I777 had the typical USA touchkey configuration - needed a small kernel change and a keylayout change
The above meant that it was possible to develop a nearly universal porting tool for all Gingerbread firmwares, and once ICS kernel source was released, same for ICS firmwares. The main disadvantage was you couldn't do anything with I9100 leaks - kernel source was required.
CDMA users will be screwed - too many differences for a GSM firmware to ever have any hope of being cleanly ported to a CDMA device. (Exception being AOSP bringups.)

I'm really hoping it comes through soon. I have 4.2 on my phone and I love it

After trying to get a straight answer out of anyone at Samsung USA I am not betting anytime soon. If it happens by the end of this year I will honestly be shocked.
After going through the new christmas advertisement, i have a feeling that the update will definately come on or before 25th dec.
I think samsung wants to cash on shopping time, and put in a new advertisement in front of ppl to get that feel good factor for this tablet.
I really don't think they have any other reason to hold this update back from 8013 users otherwise.

That advertisement is posted on the Samsung mobile facebook page. The one they use for international users. If you look at the Samsung Mobile USA facebook page they do not even mention the note 10.1 AT ALL. It is all S3 Note 2 and the tab 2 10.1 It is like the note 10.1 does not even exist.
You would think with all the tech sites that someone could get answer about the 8013 but nothing to be found.

So the question remains
So.... With all that has been said the question still remains. Where and when is the update? There was a time, just recently, that you could not turn on the tv without seeing a Note 10.1 ad a thousand times. Now it is only occasional. They have moved on to the note 2.
You would think that with all of the tech sites and tech people that someone would know somebody at Samsung that would have an answer.
Why so silent about the 8013?
Is it an issue with the apple suit?
Are we just spoiled and impatient because we were not first?
You would think someone could figure this out.
It's a great question. You would think that with the 4th iPad, TF 700 as closest competition in the US they would get it out asap. They've pushed their GS3 with JB on almost all carriers in US (correct me if i'm wrong), their Note 2 had JB when released and almost all got the new update with more multitasking, all that's left of their top 3 would be the GN 10.1.
As an earlier posted stated some misgivings about the 8010 and 8013, i thought they were identical in hardware. The only difference methought, was some of the applications that were on the Note 10.1. Part of the reason other countries got the JB update I thought was 1.) They had GN 10.1 released to them before the US, 2.) Had cellular support 3.) Beta test for any hiccups. I've never known Samsung to have huge issues with their updates (except on cellular which is more carrier related and the 1 incident that could essentially wipe your phone with a html link) but i thought maybe some of these carriers made a big stink BEFORE their contract with Samsung saying they wanted JB by [certain date]. I know if Samsung doesn't get it out by that date they get fined or charged per day - but this is all a guess on my part. I can see the new 8020 getting JB before it gets released, because it's newer and has LTE. All i can think is that sadly this time around their wifi didn't get the update 1st.
If there was someway i didn't have to change my csc and essentially do a complete wipe on my 8013, i would upgrade to another version of the JB. If all i have to do is Odin the pda file of the UK version then i'll do it - i am getting anxious as all of us, but i refuse to lose my data this time around (yes i know about TI, i just prefer not to have to do it).
Perhaps we should write to the leaders of XDA and see if THEY can get a response out of samsung and post it on their main page. That or androidcentral. Android central posted when germany was getting the "premium suite" upgrade that it was a slow roll out - which made it seem like it was hitting all the different countries/regions separately and over time. Technically i guess this is correct, but i'm wondering if they just repeated what was written elsewhere or from the PR which didn't explicitly say whether it was just for germany, etc. (Although then the UK received it, etc.)
What us Wifi users are waiting on is when the 8010/8013 suite will be released from us, and so far, thanks to the success of the GN2 and GS3, we are what seems to be one of he last of priorities.

good point. The 8013 and 8010 are basically identical hardware wise, but it seems the 8013 has so many issues, including slow updates and problems with getting palm rejection on ezpdf reader. Had i know all this, I would have definitely gotten the 8010.

Or you can just flash n8010 firmware via Odin on 8013 and you now have 8010 note

Does your data get wiped? It uses the same kernel i'm guessing?
It almost has to be a legal issue with Apple at this point. Portions of the trial are still ongoing so Its quite possible the Samsung lawyers are blocking anything that could fuel the fire, especially since Apple specifically moved to add the Note 10.1 and Android 4.1 to the lawsuit.
Sad that Verizon was faster on the s3 than Samsung was on their so called "flagship" product. Never thought that would happen either. At least I now have JB on something
Then why would Samsung continue to release updates to their US carrier partners such as Verizon with the gs3? The premium suite is essentially the same across the board with except of UI and how its implemented.

Jellybean is out on all major carriers in the US for Galaxy S III now. Really doubt that reason.

I agree. I have the feeling it will be here before Christmas. The only question is whether I am patient enough to withstand flashing the German stock rom in the meantime.

Given past history I'd expect Germany to release first... DBT in particular.
Poland will get the first release. Thats for sure.

Generally the country code does not matter as long as your language is included and as long as your language is a widely spoken one like English, German, French or Spanish this should be the case with every release.

My guess is that it'll be released when jellybean gets released for GS2s with DBT. It's strange what's happening with jellybean on our little brother as it's only been released for 3 CSCs yet.

Bit of a rant: somewhat disappointed with the eternal delays. Don't really care for JB specifically as much as the touchwiz enhancements, improved Samsung keyboard (swiping+numbers row in one) and contact load up delay fix.
When the original Note came out, everybody said forget about touchwiz upgrades, Samsung never did it in the past, upgrading to another major version. We kind of accepted it. The majority of us were still content with having this little (big) wonder.
And then came some touchwiz updates with ICS. Shortly after, we were promised S III and Note 2 like features in the JB update. That was when? back in October or November? Which kind of set our hopes high, and got me thinking 'Well done Samsung, that's a good one'
Now it's just silly how low a priority Samsung has given the Note following the Note 2 release. Although I hate how apple controls and restricts its devices, you got to give it to them: they do maintain a reasonably steady stream of updates.
So here's hoping Germany's will be out somewhat faster than 1st of March (or a little later, or whenever, or whatever )
If you're buying a flagship device (like the Note and GS2 were) then you should expect at least 2 major OS updates imo. iPhones normally get 2 or 3 so top end Android devices should get the same in order to keep up with the competition.

You forgot that Apple develops its own software for their own hardware
And iOs never had so many new features in one update as android has. Look, jb brought all new experience with project butter and ics made the ui really good.
What makes apple? Multitasking in one year, folders in next one, than cydia and notification Drawer... So, I hope you understand what I mean.
And to the op, although I leave in Germany, I was born and lived in Ukraine for 15 years, and what I can say:don't trust them.

iOS was just updated to 6.1. iPhone 3GS, which came out in 2008 with iOS 2.0, is still supported and updated today. Support and updates for android devices is utter crap compared to what apple does. It's a shame. and needs to change.
