I think samsung start rolling update for it based on sammobile.com news

talked to Samsung customer service the other day. They said there's no information about the update. They said they usually receive information about the update 2 weeks before the update rolls out. So it's more likely that we won't get it by the end of this year. Samsung is a liar. They said the update will be rolling out in Q4. What a bad lie!

I'm really hoping it comes through soon. I have 4.2 on my phone and I love it

Well the 8010 OTA is out which hardware wise is pretty identical. There should be roms available in Development within the next few days. Just check there.

After trying to get a straight answer out of anyone at Samsung USA I am not betting anytime soon. If it happens by the end of this year I will honestly be shocked.

After going through the new christmas advertisement, i have a feeling that the update will definately come on or before 25th dec.
I think samsung wants to cash on shopping time, and put in a new advertisement in front of ppl to get that feel good factor for this tablet.
I really don't think they have any other reason to hold this update back from 8013 users otherwise.

That advertisement is posted on the Samsung mobile facebook page. The one they use for international users. If you look at the Samsung Mobile USA facebook page they do not even mention the note 10.1 AT ALL. It is all S3 Note 2 and the tab 2 10.1 It is like the note 10.1 does not even exist.
You would think with all the tech sites that someone could get answer about the 8013 but nothing to be found.

good point. The 8013 and 8010 are basically identical hardware wise, but it seems the 8013 has so many issues, including slow updates and problems with getting palm rejection on ezpdf reader. Had i know all this, I would have definitely gotten the 8010.

So the question remains
So.... With all that has been said the question still remains. Where and when is the update? There was a time, just recently, that you could not turn on the tv without seeing a Note 10.1 ad a thousand times. Now it is only occasional. They have moved on to the note 2.
You would think that with all of the tech sites and tech people that someone would know somebody at Samsung that would have an answer.
Why so silent about the 8013?
Is it an issue with the apple suit?
Are we just spoiled and impatient because we were not first?
You would think someone could figure this out.

It's a great question. You would think that with the 4th iPad, TF 700 as closest competition in the US they would get it out asap. They've pushed their GS3 with JB on almost all carriers in US (correct me if i'm wrong), their Note 2 had JB when released and almost all got the new update with more multitasking, all that's left of their top 3 would be the GN 10.1.
As an earlier posted stated some misgivings about the 8010 and 8013, i thought they were identical in hardware. The only difference methought, was some of the applications that were on the Note 10.1. Part of the reason other countries got the JB update I thought was 1.) They had GN 10.1 released to them before the US, 2.) Had cellular support 3.) Beta test for any hiccups. I've never known Samsung to have huge issues with their updates (except on cellular which is more carrier related and the 1 incident that could essentially wipe your phone with a html link) but i thought maybe some of these carriers made a big stink BEFORE their contract with Samsung saying they wanted JB by [certain date]. I know if Samsung doesn't get it out by that date they get fined or charged per day - but this is all a guess on my part. I can see the new 8020 getting JB before it gets released, because it's newer and has LTE. All i can think is that sadly this time around their wifi didn't get the update 1st.
If there was someway i didn't have to change my csc and essentially do a complete wipe on my 8013, i would upgrade to another version of the JB. If all i have to do is Odin the pda file of the UK version then i'll do it - i am getting anxious as all of us, but i refuse to lose my data this time around (yes i know about TI, i just prefer not to have to do it).
Perhaps we should write to the leaders of XDA and see if THEY can get a response out of samsung and post it on their main page. That or androidcentral. Android central posted when germany was getting the "premium suite" upgrade that it was a slow roll out - which made it seem like it was hitting all the different countries/regions separately and over time. Technically i guess this is correct, but i'm wondering if they just repeated what was written elsewhere or from the PR which didn't explicitly say whether it was just for germany, etc. (Although then the UK received it, etc.)
What us Wifi users are waiting on is when the 8010/8013 suite will be released from us, and so far, thanks to the success of the GN2 and GS3, we are what seems to be one of he last of priorities.

Does your data get wiped? It uses the same kernel i'm guessing?

It almost has to be a legal issue with Apple at this point. Portions of the trial are still ongoing so Its quite possible the Samsung lawyers are blocking anything that could fuel the fire, especially since Apple specifically moved to add the Note 10.1 and Android 4.1 to the lawsuit.

Sad that Verizon was faster on the s3 than Samsung was on their so called "flagship" product. Never thought that would happen either. At least I now have JB on something

Then why would Samsung continue to release updates to their US carrier partners such as Verizon with the gs3? The premium suite is essentially the same across the board with except of UI and how its implemented.

Why we are not getting 3.2

Well i mean this is just speculation from my standpoint.
For wifi versions, no 3rd party software developers are impeding the process
I.E. Verizon LTE versions are affected by Verizon's wishes as some people had problems with the Fascinate if you know what i mean.
Now i believe that the reason we are not getting anymore updates on the 10.1 tab for honeycomb is because of the upcoming release of the ICS.
Because ICS will be for both phones and tablets, there is probably no interest from Samsung to spend the time and the resources to update their tablets to the most updated software.
And as we all know Samsung got the first dibs on the ISC software code, i think it is not in the near future that Samsung begins to release ICS source code for all of their products.
It maybe even possible that they are working on ICS for their soon to be released products such as Galaxy Note, Galaxy TAB 7+, Galaxy Tab 7.7
OH well this was just my simple rant for today
I wanted to know what your thoughts were..
Best,
3.2 is more for smaller screen tabs. We are not missing much aside from resizable Widgets.
Look at all the issues the guys in the Asus forums are having with 3.2.

I don't think they are working on it because they are engulfed in a legal battle with Apple...
Since its been only two month since the "Touchwiz" update and there are no pressing bugs to fix nor brings 3.2 any real needed functionality, I'm not surprised that Samsung hasn't updated the tab. A new version number might seem important to a few people but I can understand why it's not exactly high priority at Samsungs.
The 7+ is launching next month on T-Mobile US with 3.2. The SGS2 currently runs 2.3, 2.4, and 2.5 depending on the market. We think a lot harder about this than Samsung does.
These threads are in every forum. This is not just Samsung. Every phone/tablet forum has people who want the next update as soon as it is announced. What are the real differences between touchwiz and 3.2? I can already resize widgets.

Also..who here thinks that Steve Kondik uses a Galaxy Tab 10.1 as well?

me personally cant wait till ICS goes open source so that CM team can take it and start doing CM8

They'll almost certainly be working on it but the devices you've listed will be released with 2.3.X, 3.2 and 3.2 respectively.
So Samsung clearly are devoting some resources to working on 3.2, albeit for other models of Tab.
It raises the possibility that the 3.2 update might be released around the same time as these new models of Tab, though it's obviously a matter of waiting and seeing.

Whilst ICS is certainly a bigger update than 3.2, I don't feel we should have to justify missing out on one software update by hoping that we get the next one sooner.
Good after-sales support would've seen us running 3.2 already as well as receiving ICS, not one or the other.
And the fact that Samsung seem completely unconcerned about updating the Tab 10.1 to 3.2 must surely raise questions as to their commitment to bringing ICS to it in a timely fashion.
Considering Samsung has gotten the first hands-on look with ICS since they are making the next Nexus I would imagine they would have already gotten a head start on developing it for the Tab, which is their flagship tablet.
I'm the owner of a Samsung Vibrant and I really think it has been the US carriers letting us down with updates for the GS line. The international Galaxy S has already gotten Gingerbread a very long time ago while everyone in the US is, officially anyway, stuck on Froyo.
So I would also imagine that since the carriers aren't involved in the WIFI model's update process that we will be seeing faster updates for the US WIFI model.

They may be making the hardware but the mark of a Nexus device is that Google handles the software in-house, Samsung quite possibly will have had minimal access to the code so far.
Equally, Google are supposed to be implementing a scheme whereby the larger, 'better' Android OEMs get advanced access to the source code of new Android versions in return for keeping their devices updated quickly and generally providing the best possible user experience for their Android devices.
So it is possible Samsung already have access to the ICS source code but, as I said, it's hard to be positive about ICS when Samsung seemingly can't be bothered bringing us a much smaller update.

The i9000 has had Gingerbread for a while now, yeah, though it was still a fair way behind other handsets in receiving the update - a number of HTCs got in there first if memory serves.
That said, as someone else already pointed out, Samsung have done a far better job of keeping the Galaxy S2 updated, so it seems that they are at least moving in the right direction.
Check out my post, its title Ipad 3, we are all dealing with this slow update process, apple is far ahead in the update department.

Manufacturers usually don't announce something and take it away. If they don't want to offer something or aren't sure they just say it's "under consideration." For months sometimes. In addition the U.S. carriers have all published a list of Samsung devices to be updated and all the G-Tabs other than the original 7" are on it. If Samsung was just kidding I'd doubt they'd take the U.S. carriers down with them.

So true. I've had the same experience with different manufacturers, and they are pretty much the same, depending on which device you choose. As soon as they have new products on the market, they tend to put other products on the backburner. Sad but true. Only thing you can do to create a difference, is complaining to the manufacturers again and again, and not on forums.. that want do nothing for nobody..

If only it would please them to stop competing with LG for the Delayed Update Award, we'd be in business.
What freaks me out is we still havent seen a single leak.. while its by far the most popular 1st gen Android tablet.
The only reason I see for this is "a" build exists, it isnt being tested anywhere but in Samsung very own labs;
Not a single carrier or anything close to it has yet got to test it on its network. =(
I dont see it poping up on my tab overnight even if Bell says I should be hopefull. This is going to be a long summer.
Guys, you'll get your update, the TAB 10.1 is a popular device and all the 2011 line got the update or is getting it...
See my situation :
- My Tab 10.1v wil NEVER get updated.
- My EU Atrix will probably NEVER get updated while the US will get the update...late 2012.
- My wife's Ray got the update : it's filled with bugs, features that are not activated (auto light, auto flash) and it's super slow although the device is barely less powerful than the Nexus S.

That's exactly what I was thinking! I switched from the tf700 thinking that I was sacrificing an update to jellybean. its really anyones guess whether samsung decided the include the note II features even though the tablet could easily handle all of them, but samsung likes exclusive features on its newest devices. on the other hand, samsung has been remarkably quick with its jellybean update, and since this device is still less than a month old samsung could throw in the note II features to make more people want to buy the tablet.

There's no reason for them not to add new features, particularly when everyone says the Note 10.1 "sucks" compared to it's competitors and will get "pwned" by the Surface/Series 5/etc. etc. They need anything they can get to set them out from the pack, and definitely pushing JB with some serious new features behind it before Asus can get in gear would be a good way to say "hey, look at us!"
This is a halo device, after all (for now).

Here's the way I look at it.
At the August 15th announcement they declared "by the end of the year;" a self-imposed deadline. They could have been more vague and just said "we plan to update the Note 10.1 to Jelly Bean."
At IFA they said "very soon" rather than "end of the year." Again, why change the terminology and increase expectations when there's no need to?
The Note II for all intents and purposes is a smaller Note 10.1 running the same h/w and s/w (with or without some specific features). The JB ROM its running is obviously complete enough to allow reporters to review it.
There are leaked OEM ROMs out in the wild for the SGS3 which shares the same h/w as the Note(s). The only thing different are the S-Pen and digitizer specific features.
The Note 10.1 and Note II don't compete. There's no reason for Samsung to hold back the Note 10.1's JB update or withhold features.
So when you add it up I'm guessing "very soon" to mean next month somewhere around the time the Note II goes on sale internationally. All just supposition of course.
I agree the note II and the 10.1 do not compete. I personally think they complement each other. I am looking for a phone next year and will probably grab the note II. Without the note 10.1 I would be less likely to buy the note II.
I would also be more likely to grab it if the note 10.1 and note II have methods in place to share S notes and other features.
This is a way for Samsung to differentiate itself from Apple. There is no way you could say the Note II and the 10.1 are copies of the ipad. I think this differentiation is important to Samsung.

The 10.1's S-Note app syncs with either Google docs or Evernote so I'm assuming the Note II's will also. It's a shame the 10.1 doesn't have NFC or we could use S-Beam to share files.
If the samsung doesnt include the new features frome the note2, couldnt it be ported or just copied over if its just software?
Same specs right? Essentially same hardware . Take the cellular modems out and what do you have?

Maybe I was hallucinating... but I could have sworn they were showing a Note 10.1 running JB during the "Unpacking" show.
One comment on that though - how does Samsung manage to put on such a huge, elaborate, flashy video presentation and then plunk some of the least exciting people in front of it.
Also, they have to put some mikes in the audience to catch their reactions - because when they were standing there showing the ultrabooks either their mics weren't working or the audience collectively died.

You play the hand your dealt. For all we know those were the good ones. HTC's CEO always looks scared to death at events and Asus' is a raving lunatic.

OK Samsung, W8 is out and taking buyers, time for JB OTA - now!

JB for the Note II has been out for a while now. Note II specs are remarkably similar to SGN10.1 specs. JB with Note II multitasking competes well with W8. The current configuration not so much.
So, open letter to Samsung. Time to push out the JB OTA now! You are going to start losing SGN10.1 users to W8 devices. Get your act together and OTA us dammit. This is a new device. We should NOT be made to wait like this. Pisses us off and just bad business for you.
And if you are delaying us just so your W8 devices can get a foothold you are going to have some unhappy early adopters on your hands.
Get it done.
P.S., This post will solve nothing but It felt good to vent.

Thing are done allot different in tablet mode than in normal phone mode so the fact that the note II has same hardware as note 10.1 doesn't make it easy to make a jelly bean rom for it, the interface is completly different

Sadly, I don't think Samsung listen to you.

To those who would switch, it would most likely be a Samsung Ativ, so to Samsung it's the right pocket moving to the left and its still Samsung.

What concerns me is that we aren't even seeing any new test builds of the JB OTA with all the Note II goodies in them. You would think they would throw a few test builds out before the actual OTA release. Nothing on Sammy at all.
This makes me think we aren't even close.
just an fyi, but us americans aren't seeing some of the note 2 goodies on the note 2 yet. gotta wait on an update - no multiview is one.

We paid the price for the ICS and it has been updated anything else is just yet to come when Samsung thinks it's ready and or the right time for them.
Yes, it's always a good idea to try to put pressure on a company to release software they don't think is ready. I mean, we all know they develop things and just wait and wait for no reason before releasing.

Sadly, we consumers "pay the price" whenever we don't buy stock Android.
I totally forgot about CM10 tho

Is this all apps or specific apps, if not, hope samsung releases whatever needs releasing to help third party app devs implement this feature on tw
Maybe we should start flooding their facebook site on the JB update.
sadly, i would bet 8/10 people have zero idea what operating version of android is running on the note currently out of the population that has it now. the general public is completely clueless when it
comes to android.

I wouldn't expect JB out anytime soon, with 4.2 out last night Samsung probably has to start with the OS base all over again but if they had gotten to the apps then at least those are a quick copy paste but with less devs working on the S3 and Note 2 version as it is practically out we will probably see the update coming through in December late November unless they give us 4.1 and we wait for 4.2.

My first generation note have come through allot of updates (2.3.3/ 2.3.6/4.0.3 /4.04 /4.04 with s3 touch wizard / and finally 4.11 jelly bean with full note 2 software features) I hope we will be treated the same way they treated the original note in terms of updates
Sent from my X10S using xda app-developers app
that depends on how many note 10.1 are sold note sold in millions and hence its still supported

There was no official mention of the Note 2 getting an upgrade to 4.3

It seems that there is some confusion on weather the Note 2 was mentioned as part of the handsets receiving the 4.3 upgrade this October.
The only phones mentioned were the S3 and S4. There was no other device mentioned.
Most online news sites have reported this. Sources :
Engadget
Android Authority
Sammobile
Andoid Spin
We will most likely get the upgrade. This is not a Samsung hate thread. I just wanna clear up the fact that the only devices that are covered by the update announcement are the S3 and S4. Samsung is most likely just giving the Note 3 more exclusive time with 4.3 and delaying our upgrades after the sales of their new phablet take off.

False , Note 2 is getting
What Engadget reported is not true. Here you go with the official demo by samsung. You can see that Note 2 is getting the 4.3 version by october this year.
http://youtu.be/oMr5gywv0zM?t=3m51s
He says the S3 and Note 2 will receive updates in October. Fair enough he doesn't actually mention android 4.3, but as far as I'm aware, the compatibility with galaxy gear requires Bluetooth 4.0 which is enabled through android 4.3? Not so sure about that last bit so please do correct me of I'm mistaken.
I hope we get the new features of the note 3, I quite fancy the look of the new s note and air command.

Hey I'm glad I read this post confirming N2 is due an update Oct '13. I had my doubts because other threads said N2 update was not mentioned at the unpacking.
I follow your reasoning that the update will likely be 4.3. Otherwise connectivity with the Gear will not be possible. It's been unequivocally stated that 4.3 bluetooth is required - where else would the capabilitycome from? Sammy want us to buy the Gear. It all ties in with rumors Sammy planned skipping 4.2 for 4.3

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Usually I'd think they would wait a couple more months to let the note 3 sales ride out before updating the note 2, but in the interest of getting the gear out there, they might just push it early.
I won't be buying a gear as its not for me, but if we get an early 4.3 update with the new note 3 features because of it, then I'm so very glad it's coming out!!
It's sucks
A year after the Note 2 was release and Samsung did not updated Note 2
that sucks, many other Devices had the 4.2.2 and 4.3 and im in 4.1.2
Wifi drains my standby battery like there's no tomorrow. No such problem on my Nexus 4 (or any HTC One S).
I sincerely hope 4.3 sorts this problem out.

I do, a ROM that doesn't utilize the Spen fully on my Note doesn't stick around my phone for long. what's the point of not using it if it's there? Might as well buy a Sammy Mega then:silly:

+1
Plus stock camera and samsung drivers are far beyond any other camera app in the market, CM and AOSP cameras are just pathetic and correct me if I'm wrong but even if S-PEN works in non-samsung based Roms, it doesn't detect the pressure of it.
So I'm still waiting for the update, then the great devs of this forum can do the magic.
