[Q] Defy+CMX+NTFS+Torrent=Problem? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Im trying to get my Defy+ which runs CMX to download a mkv file thru a bittorrent program. The file is around 7Gb big which easily should be accepted by the NTFS filesystem on the SD card. But when trying to download the file to the sd card bittorrent tells me that the file exceeds the filesystems limit.
Anyone got any idea how this can be?
Cheers

G1 can't copy large file from computer to G1's SD card via USB

hi
My G1 can't copy large file from computer to G1's SD card via USB. Everytime i tried to copy a large file to SD card via, the G1 will turn off the USB storage. Would you like to let me know how to fix it? Thank you very much.
Define large.
And secondly, what happens if you try to even access the files on your SD through windows? Do you get the same behavior?
Filesystem is formatted fat16 OR bad USB wire OR you use windoze.
I am having a similar problem. I have a Rogers G1 and bought a 16GB Lexar card from Walmart for $55 CAD(seemed like too good a deal and it was). Took it back after trying to reseat the card several times and the issue still persisting. The 2nd card is still having the same problem.
I first noticed it when trying to copy my 8 gb MP3 collection... after about 5-10 mins of transfering the SD card becomes unmounted.
I suspect that it will work fine if I mount the card in an adapter and put it in my laptop, but will confirm.
Might try to fatten up the micro sd card a bit where the connectors are, and see if it makes better contact with the phone...if transfers work from the laptop.

'Large' means the file size is more than 100MB. I can copy the large file to SD via USB adapter successfully. And G1 itself can access large file successfully. Now i have not test it in Linux environment.
thl16888, What kind of memory are you using? Who did you get your phone through? Little shy with your details..
I am able to copy files from widows directly to the card as well...just not so well on the phone.

My SD card is Scandisk 4G. I can copy large files into sd card via USB reader. it is not so well via G1's USB.
There is a 4 gig file size limit on Fat32 format. So anything larger will not work.
I have the same problem in Windows. However in Linux it works perfectly so I know the phone cable and SD card are fine. That only leaves one problem, Windows! I think the Windows USB driver is not very stable.
My g1 had the same problem..so what I did was mounted it in terminal..the phone can't scan it so it can't close it...so heres the url enter this in the terminal emulator or console click here
i have a similar problem to, help plx
I have similar problem to, but itz with any file, until the smallest note 1kb.
I try to copy a file, like a music, ok, its there, but after when I remove safely the usb, and unmount on the g1, I look for the file and its not there. I tested with every type off archives, and with a 200mb file, the sd don't keep the file. Help plx , maybe its a config wrong.
Ahh, and I can't download files on g1 by browser, it says that I haven't space, but I have 3GB on sd and 20mb on internal.
Before I haven't this 2 problems. Someone know what are the problem?
Sorry by the bad english, I'm portuguese =P
I have the same problem, i can't copy big files to the G1. When i put the sdcard in a card reader, windows detects nothing.
Download MountUSB App from the Market on your G1, and try again....that worked for me.
I'm having similar problem just copying a 646KB file for Cookie Monster's app. It constantly disconnects from my pc.

[Q] Error writing to sd card

Hi folks,
I am running CM7.1 off a 4gig sd card on an otherwise stock NC. Most things are working as intended. I can install apps from the market and they install and run fine.
The problem comes up when I try and sideload anything to the sd card. If I connect the NC to a pc with the usb cable and enable usb storage mode and try to copy a file to the sd card I get the error "Cannot copy [filename]: The parameter is incorrect." but I can write the file to internal memory without an issue.
If I try and write a file to the sd card using the 'File Expert' app by copying form a network share to sd it appears to copy the file and the file shows in the directory but it is corrupt. File Expert cannot generate an MD5 sum to compare with the original and the file can not be loaded into an app (ebook reader for ebubs, etc.) it just returns an error that the file is invalid. I can copy files to the internal memory using the same method and everything works fine.
Downloads from a browser also abort and nothing is written to the sd card but apps downloaded from the market install fine.
Could this be a permission issue? A problem with the sd cards partition? Is there something else I should be looking at to help diagnose this issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Problem writing to SD card

Has anyone else experienced problems writing files to external SD card just lately? All I know is that the SD card works fine If I use it on the computer with a card reader.
For instance if I copy 300mb of titaniumbackup files it will randomly stop in the process and tell me there is a problem writing the files. This also happens with other files. I can't seem to find anything in the logs either, but then I'm not exactly sure what to look for.
I've tried ES file explorer, the CM11 file explorer and FX file exporer. I've reformatted the SD card using CWM, put it in my card reader on my computer and was able to copy over 40gb of data flawlessly so the card doesn't seem to be corrupt.
I'm not really sure where to start with the troubleshooting, as I said before I'm not sure what I'm looking for in the log files regarding failed file transfers.

If the sdcard is not already formatted with fat32 your best bet is to format it
fat32 and there is an excellent chance that you will be able to use it in your
phone and computer without any further issues.
Here is a direct download link for the windows fat32 formatter:

Good luck!

I switched to slimkat rom to try it out. It's also based on 4.4 and the same kernel as what I had before. I re-formatted the sd card to fat32 at the same time but everything seems to work now. I wonder what it was. Maybe just a kitkat bug with exfat that still needs to be sorted out

[Q] ExFAT is read-only on GS4 (i9505)

I've got a 32 GB SD card which I've formatted to exFAT through Windows. The card works as expected when inserted in my PC; I can add, remove and change files. Though, I can not delete files I copied to it from my Windows PC when it's in my GS4, using stock Android 4.3. I can read files and strangely apps can read/write/delete files they create themselves. The problem is, if I delete a file in for instance ES File Explorer or any media player, the UI pretends to delete it (no errors given), but when I refresh the view, the file is still there.
I'm a bit stuck as it's a bit annoying having to move the card to my PC to delete files created on my PC.
Is there a low level difference in how Windows and Android devices handle exFAT? I can't format the card to exFAT from within the phone, it will only default to FAT32. I tried to download the "Official SD card formatter" from sdcard.org, but that one also defaults to FAT32 on 32GB SD cards.
Has anyone else had this problem? Not being able to delete files on an exFAT SD card? If so, how did you get around it without rooting the phone?

Moto X Play File Transfer Issue

I am having issues transferring most of my videos off my device onto my windows computer. All videos can be viewed and played on my phone but I receive an error code of
"Can't play, this file isn't playable. That might be because the file type is unsupported, the file extension is incorrect, or the file is corrupt. 0xc00d36c4" on my computer after I attempt to move the files.
All videos are transferred and saved as an MP4 file, and I can view the date created and the size of the file, although there is no length/run time indicated in the video details on my computer. I have no issues with the transfer of any photos, only the videos.
I did indicate that I am having issues transferring "most" of my videos, because the main bulk of them are stuck on my phone but for some reason, an odd video here and there will transfer successfully and I have no idea why as I am doing nothing different in the procedure of taking the video, transfer settings, or in the program on how to view them. The video details seem the same to me as well for the ones that are corrupt versus the ones that are successful, the only difference being the runtime is indicated for the successful transfers.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
what's the file size of the videos and what's the exact SD card type - SD, SDHC or SDXC? And which ROM do you use? If an affected video file exceeds 4GB the reason could be the partition format. It seems that at least the LOS17.1 ROM doesn't support exFAT, but uses FAT32 instead (see posts #119 and #121). With FAT32, which is a usual partition type for SD and SDHC, the file size is limited to 4GB. SDXC cards usually use exFAT ("SDXC adopts Microsoft's exFAT file system as a mandatory feature"; Wikipedia SD_card, section Capacity/SDXC).
Windows seems to be able to read from and write to an SDXC card even if it's formatted with FAT32. But this ability could be limited to files below 4GB. And, in Windows you can't even format a SDXC card with FAT32, it only provides NTFS and exFAT.
If your video files are below 4GB or if you don't use an SDXC card the partition type shouldn't be your problem.
Regards
If the MP4 files can be played on your phone, your player on your PC may not support the file type. First, try other Player. If no, try other way to help you transfer your videos files from your phone to pc.
