u8800-51 Forum request - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hi, since a few of us have this model and the related posts get lost among the other forums and as a way to keep make information more accesible to our fellow u8800-51 owners i think it would be nice to have a U8800-51 development forum. That's it, just sharing this idea.

Hmmm. Fighting with all the mods won't get you it. There is only one way and that is in some submitting form. There is not enough demand as it looks.

Hi Mayers.... i have a -51 and see the u8800pro dev forum. I´m Brazilian and see others with same phone here. I think just getting organized embedded in the forum u8800pro-dev, since most of u8800pro firmwares are compatible with our device.

I have the same problem. I lose myself in forum u8800 and u8800 pro
and understand that u8800-51 is basically the same pro ... but there are other drivers for Wi - Fi and mobile data
:crying:I tried all the ics pro 8800 pro- no wifi.
:crying:aurora no mobile data.
In short it's a mess.....
I want to make things right
Remember u8800-51, we exist!

Well, post your request in the requesting form
Sent from my Impulse 4g running vPure Professional CM7.

Where is request forum located? Consumer Cellular in the US is selling the 8800-51 with 2.2.2. Currently the 51 appears to be the neglected device out of the family.

The request forum is located HERE.
And for anyone looking for some ROM there appears to be two here:

Because more people are realizing they are by wifi most of the time. If you are on a family plan you can cut your att bill by about half by moving to consumer cellular, depending on your data usage or ability to use data wisely. More people are aware how bad the main providers are screwing them in the US and they are finally willing to take some steps to do something about it. I realize Consumer Cellular is an att reseller but moving to them still saved us a bundle.
The 8800-51 is the faster of two huawei phone sold by Consumer Cellular so that may be why there is a sudden interest in the phone.

Verizon and AT&T. Well, I'm trying to modify some modules.
Sent from my u8800-51.

Here in chile the -51 is the only u8800 family phone available. i actually bought it thinking it would have some kind of support since they advertised it as the u8800 which has 4.0
and yhea, the u8800-pro forum can be quite confusing for new members and users.

Separate sub forum

thinking bout picking up the verizon play and wondering if we'll get a sub forum for the 800x, since it is cdma and the others are gsm wouldn't it be bad to haver it all in one? we had a huge problem in the fascinate forums since there was a gsm and cdma one but since people don't read and some didn't state which in the start had a ton of soft bricks and that lead you the whole lot of I'm bricked fix my phone noobie threads lol... so is there enough hardware difference between them to justify another forum?

So WCDMA is the best then?
Do some Xperia Play's only come with GSM and no WCDMA option?
With WCDMA enabled i get an "H" appearing for my data connection. And it is super fast. Just like broadband.
Youtube videos stream in HD no problem at all.

WCDMA (Wideband CDMA) descibes a platform that can be convenient for the deployment of 3G. this is because of its spreading bandwidth -5MHz.
CDMA is a complete cellular system which was employed for 2G and now for 3G network. CDMA2000 is the version of CDMA system for 3G.
see there not the same thing CDMA is a type of network, while WCDMA is a radio technology, you get better reception on WCDMA rather than GSM because it uses a wider signal
+1 I agree its causing alot of confusion

Sub forum? seriously? the Play forum is pretty dead already, why on earth would you want to split it up and make it even worse?
just tag your post [R800x] or [R800i] etc it will solve alot of the issue. but like person above me said these place is like a god damn ghost town for some reason. I honestly thought devs would be all over this phone least on vzw side as being a ASOP phone and having game controls...
well the verizon one only been out a couple of days and peoples upgrades mostly went to dx2 and the inc2 I would imagine. I know its dead and everything and if people would tag their post it would solve the problem, but people don't do that. it saves a lot of time and bricks in the long run to just split the development into a gsm thread and a cdma one. also people don't read so tagging doesn't always work lol

Yeah, we'll have to wait until people actually root the Verizon Xperia Play. So far most of the methods I've tried have not worked terribly well. Gingerbreak holes are confirmed as closed, and I haven't had much luck with psneuter or rageinthecage via ADB either (could be just me doing it wrong, but it worked for other phones). Secondly, the bootloader unlock doesn't seem to work for CDMA due to no real IMEI number (just ESN), and the IMEI availble via ADB doesn't report correctly.
We have 2 fascinate models sharing a forum. Once everyone understood marking their posts, there has not been to many problems. I Say either is fine.

yea I know been there from day one so many bricks happened the first week do to a gsm n cdma being named the same and also a bunch of boot issues thanks to there being two sch-i500 on different cdma carriers until people finally stopped flagging the wrong modems. that's why the mesmerize got its own thread, same exact model number but different software.
rather we get another or not doesn't truly matter to me, just trying to be a friendly guy and save people some headache I'll be getting a xperia play either way and I'll be reading everything throughly so yea lol

It would get a bit mad if every provider got his own board... I'm getting annoyed with all the verizon talk that's going on. But since a lot of things are universal I wouldn;t want the boards to get split up.
Just don't open threads that state that they are for the R800i or for the rogers version.
The reason why you find few useful info about the R800x is quite simple: nothing has happened: no root, no unlocked bootloaders, nada.
You USAns should exert real pressure on your carrier cartel so that you don't get different models per carrier instead of whining about other people discussing their phone.
Hey be happy you get Vanilla Android.
kidding yea it can be frustrating when the Rogers model launched I was frustrated because their was no information or anything about it here because the European model was already launched.
Give it some time it will all get sorted out soon besides there is nothing yet for the Verizon Play.
I expect root to arrive soon because most newer android handsets like the Droid3 haven't been rooted yet and even european and canadian plays can't be rooted at 2.3.3 unless you use the loophole through 2.3.2 but your device launched with 2.3.3 so that is where the problem is.
Are device came with 2.3.2 thats how lame we are

Development is off to a slower start for the VZW Play but it will pick up eventually.
Just be thankful the members of this forum aren't always saying "Search before posting noob!" like the rest of the forums out there.
adb shove iPad2post.apk to /forum/thread
Ya I go into the android development section only to check the r800x root thread to see if there is an update, but I don't mind having a combined board. Just hope root comes soon.
We do not need a separate forum for one model of the Xperia Play.
The only real difference between the Verizon model and the rest is GSM and CDMA.
Verizon's model came with 2.3.2 on it but there is something blocking the Gingerbreak exploit from working, All you can do it be patient and hope that the Verizon versions see's some attention.
You cant go into every thread demanding an answer or wanting something outrageous to be done about the phone. Doing that will just piss off current Dev's and could ultimately hurt it for everyone.
Just sit back, relax, have fun with your phone, donate to help convince the devs to help us out, or complain. your call, but the last option will just get people ignoring you.

Thanks for the offer mate, really appreciated. Could you post a dump of your stock rom? I'm interested in what changes occured in the home app and the framework. If it's too much effort then i totally understand, all i want to do is satisfy my curiosity - im not a dev!
Thanks again, welcome to our forum and i hope you enjoy the power of our devices!
That's very nice of you deedscreen, i believe the Atrix have many things to borrow from its younger cousin the Photon 4G. I hope MoPhoers can get a %100 working CyanogenMod soon enough.

I'm glad you know the Photon's nickname !
We are currently working on CM7, but supposedly we will have better luck with CM9, (*as CM8 was shut down*).
Thanks for your support.
Actually used the MoPho for 2 days. I was the one who went through the Evo3D forums alone (braveheart) and helped them to realize the wall of facts about the MoPhoKing I was frusturated with the Sprint activation problem. Seeing that it's still a problem for international owners. Especially after i noticed motorola removed the airplane mode shortcut with the power button in the latest official rom 24/10/2011.
I was very harsh with the Photon and it resisted everything, definitly a very strong phone physically and integrally.
Thank you sir! I believe I'll actually find your offer quite useful as I will be leaving my current family plan on AT&T with the Atrix, to get my own Photon on Sprint in January. My only concern is the Sprint 3G. It seems so subpar. Perhaps it's only in my experiences that it's like that. However, I was pleased to find out that a closely-related phone to the Atrix was available on their network.
Thanks again, and I'm sure we'll be speaking soon!

Hold up, Sprint, (to me) has great service, but the 3G Speeds are at the higest 20kbps. That is TERRIBLE. The 4G is a huge battery drainer, and it's best if you are on WiFi. Sprint is getting an LTE, or Long Term Evolution Network in 2012, the Photon is a great phone, but it is still debated whether or not it is a LTE-capable phone.
My best suggestion to you, is to stay with AT&T, month-to-month, (DO NOT RENEW YOUR CONTRACT UNLESS YOU ARE DEFINITELY SURE THAT YOU WANT TO STAY WITH AT&T!!!), until Sprint releases more information about the LTE Network, and if we find out if the Photon is LTE Capable.
It is up to you, but if you think you are ready to jump ship, welcome to The Now Network.
If you want to see some cool information about the world right "NOW", click on "The Now Network" Link I posted above. It is a cool site.
PM me if you ever want more information about Sprint, or its services and devices. I am an Android guru, *not to be conceited, lol*

very regretful about my 10.1 purchase (SCH-I905)

god... I needed an LTE tablet... but this was the wrong one.
Verizon and Samsung... the 2 worst companies when wanting a software update for your device.
Anyone even gotten a straight answer from Samsung or Verizon that our SCH-I905 would be included in the July/August time frame for an ICS upgrade?
If I would have only bought the Xoom like I originally wanted.
Meh . . what can we do?
Paying termination fees to jump to Xoom now would just be a waste of money considering the fact that hardware wise it's not much of an upgrade if any.
The sad thing is there aren't any better android tablets on the horizon for release on any carrier networks with LTE built in. The latest iPad is going to have a lock on that market for the next year it seems, which is a shame.

It's not them, it's the carriers too.
Not sure if you caught Nilay Patel's editorial on the Verge a few weeks back but it certainly helped shed additional light on things we all already suspected for a long time.

Manufacturers just don't want to have to deal with the carriers for these things if they're not going to sell well. At this point I'm starting to consider myself lucky to even have a 10-inch android tablet with LTE built in.

He's right, there is no custom ROM available for the GT 10.1 that has the LTE modem drivers baked in.

well the biggest thing is the manufacturers need to modularize their devices, and have the carriers sell the modem portion. this would make 100% sense...
The SCH-i905 is going to be updated, (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00046726&fm_seq=49755) just not sure when. The HC 3.2 update took about 4 months longer for Verizon to roll out the update.
The support is minimal, but to be honest I still love this tab. Even with HC 3.2. I do a lot of travel, and it is so great to be able to grab e-mails, access dropbox, search for restaurants and check the maps, and access websites when in the middle of nowhere. There may come a time when the country is blanketed in wifi access points, but until then the LTE tab is great.
Hopefully ICS makes it even better, but I really don't have any issues with HC 3.2 at the moment.

The biggest issues I have are that..
a) VZW lied to me and told me their online documentation was wrong and the tab would ship to me with ICS..
b) My company has a few custom written apk's that only work on ICS apparently...
c) I hate the fact that they have taken so long to release the base update, but then we have to wait for verizon to get off their lazy ass and push it.
I will never buy another verizon product for myself. I am going to have to go to one of the ****ty GSM providers just to ensure I can get support like I need it from now on.

and i am not even complaining to the XDA community, more just complaining in general about Samsung. i really will never buy another Samsung device, or another Verizon device. Between the two you are just screwed if you need an update.

Then call them, write them emails, pr go stop by their houses with a basket of fruit and complain there. But please please please don't start any more threads that have no purpose or value to XDA besides complaining about your (frankly, very very small) issue.
BTW- Just get a portable hotspot and a wifi tab if you absolutely must have a GT10 with hacked firmware. Honestly, I don't understand why anyone would pay for internet for just a single device anyways; not to mention that the 3g/4g variants of most tablets are way less common than wifi-only versions (so they get a lot less development).
Exactly! You'd be most likely winner if you'd upgrade your data plan on your phone and use it as a WiFi HotSpot
Question... A few posts up I posted a link to JB for SCH I905... In the link the author post a screen shot from the "about device" screen. The device is a P7500 or something... But not SCH I905. Can
Jb or ICS be installed on SCH I905. Searching doesn't provide a clear answer and I don't want to use the trial and error method.

Why would Xoom be any better? Still a Verizon device.

What you're going to want to keep an eye on is the builds that pershoot is posting up on http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/ . You'll want the p4vzw variants. All the instructions should be there to read.
CM9 is ICS based, CM10 is JB based.
Just be sure you're on the right CWM version and you make adequate backups before you flash.

Not sure but I believe he's mentioning xoom because developers for that device managed to get the modem working in their ICS builds.

Wifi tether on unlimited data?

I want to be able to take advantage of my unlimited data and use the wifi hot-spot feature without paying for it any ideas on how to do this. not my first time rooting an android device but first time trying to break past wifi tether feature

There are people said to have gotten it working in diff environments if you read around, and this doesn't really belong in the dev section,

There is a Q&A section for a reason buddy, This is only for Development.
You can call Sprint and add Hotspot to your account...instead of violating the ToS and being one of the people who help put an end to unlimited data. If $20 more / month is the difference in bills being paid or not, then maybe cell phones aren't your cup'o'tea.
Respectfully, I disagree. This is the development section and this mod SHOULD be under development. Why it isnt, I still dont understand. It is a mod people want regardless of how anyone feels about breaking ToS, which by the way, is a rediculous argument.
I dont see this being under the dev section as litter. It should be developed, and have ongoing work if needed, just like any other Rom or software for the sprint G2.

I agree to the degree that there should be a subforum for requests, I think it's more a reason of organization then just ToS. But I understand where you are coming from. If it were up to me, I'd also create a thread about unlocking the phone's GSM capabilities, which imo, is also a pretty important part of dev.
Just get foxfi it works on every phone. Google has the pro key, I'm sure, for you people that don't want to shell out the 5 bucks.

I have it, and that info is incorrect. Foxfi does not work on many phones right now. LG G2 included.

It's not a "rediculous" argument..nor is it a ridiculous argument either. You talking about circumventing -- purposely, in order to gain something for free that is a paid service. This should be discussed right along with IMEI switching and ESN switching...because it falls into that category. If you're gonna steal, do it right...steal the phone, circumvent the bad/blacklisted ESN and go all-out to get some free data.
I've had this in every ROM I put on my GS3 and even my old Optimus S...and never used it because I didn't pay for it. Was it unlocked? I guess so, it was in the menu...but it wasn't something I wanted to break my morals in order to use.
People want this then they wonder why carriers want to increase prices and charge more / add data caps. This is the exact reason.
This is a development thread not ? Thread.
I will ask to close this thread

The reason data rates go up is called profit, not users circumventing something they DO pay for, unlimited data, on a phone I own and control the software on. Keep drinking the koolaid believing that data os expensive. I worked in the hosting business and web search industry of well over 15 years. I can go buy backbone bandwith right now for $0.003 a GB. Know your facts please. Research actual bandwidth prices and you'll realize why mobile providers make so much money on data. Margins tell it all.
Debate over. This should be about development and facts, not opinions.

isn't circumventing part of development? why else would we root our phones its not to break the securities they put in place?
The last time I read the TOS tethering was allowed in limited use.

This is the Development section. Request belong in General.
Benny that was kind of my point. There should be a thread for this in development. Putting things in general hasnt helped sprint development at all. Things are being lost in there with every other carriers stuff.
If roms are in development even when they arent complete are allowed here then why other under things like tether mods allowed here? Should there be a thread for requests under sprint? Maybe so. However other handsets forums on xda have devoted sections to specific carrier version. Why doesnt the G2?
Personally I cant find much under general, or questions, that helps me with the ls980.
If anyone can look into this I put it into development as to find a permanent solution so far I have tried foxfi and a few others and so far no dice the one I have can't turn on the access point...

So, what's your stance on Verizon's tethering policy? Before, you had to pay for it no matter what plan you had. Now, if you're grandfathered in to unlimited data, the took the option away. If you're on their tiered plan, it's now free. They've taken away the option for people who could use it effectively, and given it to people who will make them money if they try to use it in any serious sense.
Now, looking at it from another perspective, the ability has been built into my phones in the past so I don't have to use their software. In those cases, Verizon is not allowing me to use my phone as it was intended. While not a violation of the LTE purchasing agreements because they still provide 3G, it is a loophole that they are taking advantage of. As long as they provide service other than the LTE bands purchased, they can prohibit us from using our own tethering apps indefinitely without being sanctioned. How is that fair? In essence, they are robbing me of the ability to use my hard/software as it was designed. Unlike them, I don't have expensive lawyers or lobbyists in Congress' pockets.
Deodexed version V8 to be uploaded tomorrow by our lovely devs. This next weekend, if work doesn't have me too long, I'll take a look in the files and see what I can do.
