[Q] unlock bootloader void xp warranty?

Hi fellows,
So far I find the common way to unlock bootloader is to require an unlock code from sony by providing IMEI no. And we will be warned that it will void warranty.
However, I am confused that so many fellows use custom rom. So is it ture that those fellows just simply don't care the warranty or they still have it?
I know there might be some other threads talked about this, but i just havent find the answer.

I do not know what the situation is in your country, but here, sony isn't responsible for my warranty. They cant void it.
Still, i haven't seen anyone brick their play permanently yet. so the risk is low and the gain high.

Don't know but once I bricked my xp flashing nordic 2.3.4 that time I had unlocked bootloader,bloatware removed , rooted firmware and dooms kernel installed I go to Sony service centre they said my phone still is in warranty and they unbridled my phone for free .....
(May be because any one can use SEUS tool for free)

Every single person with any device using a custom rom has voided there warrenty. Whats your point?

i meant, for sony, if i understand well, we need to request unlock code from sony by giving the imei of device. i guess they may have record of this?
or is there any easier way to unlock bootloader? i am new to xp, and my previous anroid device doesnt have bootloader lock.

Well, lets look at it objectively.
They say: "Warning! If you perform this step, you will unlock the boot loader and which may void your warranty."
correct me if i'm wrong here, but that doesn't sound like you just lost your warranty. It sounds like sony wanting to make you think you did.
I suppose that if you completely fry it by over-clocking to far, or mistakes flashing, thats your risk. but say a screen or button that stops working should always be under warranty, regardless of your bootloader.

When Sony published the bootloader unlocking page, they let things clear. Unlocking the bootloader per se doesn't void your warranty, installing custom software (such as rooting and custom ROM) will do.

Thanks. That is what I am looking for. So it should be very safe once we have nondroid backup.

Nope, you're pretty screwed. When unlocking the bootloader, the phone tells you that your warranty is now void.

The nexus S has a oem bootloader unlock. In other words, samsung will not hold the fact that bootloader is unlocked against you. You do need to get rid of miui and get back to stock. There is a thread showing how to do this and provides the files you need. I'll see if I can find it for you.

dude shut up if u dont know what your talking about ..
go back to stock,stock recovery isnt even neccessary to be honest i know alot of people in the customer care for samsung and google they dont even check they issue command via bootloader, lastly you go into fastboot mode and issue command fastboot oem lock

I said that because I was screwed over by Samsung.

I just use cwm to flash the latest ota rom then locked the bootloader and reboot.
no issues from samsung regarding voided warranty. Perhaps you had sent it in with the bootloader unlocked?

Just use rom managers stock 2.3.3 and flash it... then lock bootloader by the instructions provided a post up
Just a heads up... same thing happened to a guy and he sent it in.for a speaker that wasn't working ... he waited over a month to get his phone back rather then them sending him a new one or refurbished

just flash the original system images found in the development forum, i think they are a sticky
good luck! make sure the bootloader says locked, and there is no super user app and no custom recovery!!!

I used Stock Odin image that will restore everything rom, recovery...ect then just lock bootloader. Funny thing is i sent mine back all stock and bootloader locked few months ago and got back with bootloader unlocked.

Will rooting void the warranty?

I recently bought a Nexus 7 and have a Sony Xperia S. Sony will not repair your device for warranty if you unlock the boot loader as your DRM keys are lost forever. However I've looked at a few topics regarding this and can't seem to find a straight answer regarding the Nexus 7 as some say it does void it and others sag it doesn't.
Do Google care if you unlock the boot loader as I received the C80 model and read that lots of people are still having issues. Thank you for your time.

Yes, it states everywhere when you try to root that "This may void your Warranty"
What they mean by "May" is that they will use this as an excuse not to honour your warranty if they decide.
But if you can prove that it is a hardware fault, not in anyway caused by you rooting it then they will honour your warranty.

As far as I know, yes. But you can always flash to stock ROM. It will bring your warranty back.

Flash stock in fastboot, fastboot oem lock.

Of course if your device is broken then flashing stock might not be possible.

Claiming warranty "Relocked"?

Small question, as I came from using HTC, their bootloaders will write "RELOCKED" if I've relocked the bootloader. I'm curious to know if this is the same for the Nexus 4 as I'm considering in buying this device.
Is there a way to leave no trace of root/unlock to claim warranty? I've tried searching, couldn't find what I wanted.

As long as you flash stock and relock the bootloader, there's no trace of ever rooting the device.

Yeah, if you relock the bootloader it will say 'LOCKED', just like it would out of the box. There's no 'RELOCKED' text

How Long To Wait Until Unlocking The Bootloader?

I am expecting my Pure tomorrow. Normally the first thing I do is unlock the bootloader then root. After reading about the speaker issue, I am hesitant to do that.
Is there a good test for the speaker to see if the problem exists? Anyone return a phone with a bad speaker and an unlocked bootloader? Does it make a difference if I have or don't have the extended warranty?

If it is a hardware problem they will still replace it.

Just unlock it when you get it. Motorola despite the official stance they have posted generally doesn't care if you unlock the bootloader. Your best off doing it right away as doing it wipes all the data off the phone.

they post it officially but yet dont follow what they say, according to you? so if I or him unlock the bootloader and need warranty, and moto say no warranty, then what?
