Unlock Bootloader Pros and Cons

Hi all
My XPlay is unlocked and i have not rooted it or used a custom rom.
What are the good and bad points if i unlock the bootloader?
I have no intention of using a custom rom(just wish they would release official 2.3.4 tho) dont care to root it either tbh(tho that could change )
Is it worth unlocking the bootloader?
Oh and have SE confirmed a date for ota of 2.3.4 yet?

I would not say its worth unlocking it...
Cons:
Can't update (As fare as I know)
Warranty Void
Pros:
More freedom to do with your phone (Android offers enough anyway)

No you don't need to that's all I have done to mine is sim unlock aswell as the bootloader ota and pc companion updater all works fine.

What did you use to root your xplay jutley? and does invalidate warranty?

Rooting won't void your warranty and you can root here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
Follow the guide and it will be safe, Also you don't need an unlocked boot loader for that root either, to be honest if you don't plan on using another ROM then don't unlock the boot loader, its pretty risky as the xperia play auto updates OTA.

Yep did this earlier and works great. Took me all of 5 minutes.

Root does void your warranty, because it's a software modification in the operative system that Sony doesn't support.
However, you people should learn to understand that your warranty and your technical service is XDA.

+1 but it depends how the warranty is worded, many people with the DHD got there rooted phone fixed because the warranty did'nt specifically mention software modifications

My brother said he was never going to root his phone, but then I showed him all the things he could do with it and now he can't believe he ever felt that way. I think if you looked into the possibilities a little more, you might change your mind too.
Unlocking the bootloader is another thing entirely. If you're satisfied with the stock firmware, then there's no reason to do it.

Just want to know if unlocking bootloader will void the warranty?
The Nexus 4 says it "may" void warranty, as seen below.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
If it were to unlock bootloader (to install custom roms), could you relock it so they wern't to know and
would this void warranty for future hardware problems if any occured?

Unlock your bootloader may void your warranty...but after you've done this, you can change the recovery, root your phone, change your ROM...
You can even restore the original ROM, restore the factory recovery and relock your mobile:angel:

As long as you return the phone to stock rom relock your bootloader your warranty is good

Is there a way of them knowing you ever unlocked it? There were reports that "Samsung"? or someone knew if you did it but unsure if they actually cared.
And on a different note, is this phone do you know already rooted?

It basically means that if your device is broken due to modifying the software then the warranty won't cover it.
Warranty is still covered in defects caused not by you.

It will not come pre-rooted.
You could unlock the the bootloader, allowing you to write to the system partition and then root it. Most will unlock bootloader, load custom recovery, and then just load a pre-rooted ROM.

Although it is definitely possible for a rom to be non-rooted, I doubt you'll see many (if any) roms like that since they are generally pre-rooted.
CM is rooted

Hardware damage that is not your fault e.g. backlight driver blows is covered under warranty even if bootloader is unlocked. Unlocking the bootloader voids the software warranty only.
Or atleast thats what I understand.

so i am thinking of changing my htc one x to a nexus 4 mostly because of the pure android and htc's attitude to developers. i have found a used one which is unlocked. would that be a problem with the warranty? when i unlocked my htc obviously i voided my warranty..

You can always unlock and lock doors..you just need the key.

One Click Root?

Hey Im getting the Moto X Pure Editon and I was wondering if there are any viable one click root methods, or a way to root without unlocking the bootloader. I have read that one certain (very questionable) method that XDA is against (and rightly so) can be used, but I have no plans on going that route. Im certainly not new to unlocking a bootloader and am not against it. Ive had the original Moto X Developer Edition, and currently have the Nexus 6, but the whole void the warranty deal I would like to avoid if at all possible. If I could get root and use titanium backup and ad free I could be fine with that. That being said is there a way to root without unlocking the bootloader. And is there something like on the old Droid Razr where you could install a recovery while the bootloader is still locked. Yes I know google is my friend and I have looked but haven't seen anything. So my assumption is I will probably have to unlock the bootloader. But I did want to ask before I jumped and unlocked it, because if anyone would know I know I could find out on here.

No, no one has developed a method to root without unlocking the bootlader and i doubt there will be one anytime soon(if ever since it's so easy and is an unlocked phone)

With the hassles Motorola gives people trying to get warranty support after unlocking the bootloader, it would actually be quite beneficial.

Unlocking bootloader does not void warranty completely!!! Software issues caused by the user are indeed not under warrenty anymore. Hardware related issues are.. I had 2 times screen blemishes and both times my screen got replaced for free. Great service from motorola.

Ok I have done that with other phones but I had read mixed results concerning the Moto X Pure. So if it is hardware related Motorola will honor the warrenty, software your SOL. But software we can always reflash the stock system and all.

If you unlock boot loader ur self. Theres a oneclick root app calles kingroot they quote they can root amy phone its one of those china made apps and closed source, id only use ir if your that desperate. Also they install there own version of supersu.. but theres a way to remove it just.google it..

Kingroot doesn't work. At least it didn't on mine. Only way I've found is either systemless or toolkit if you're on lollipop

I'd stick with the tested and tried methods. One click options have the potential for opening the doorway to unwanted content.....
Chainfire's supersu has been around for a long time.

Unlocking the bootloader is a must if you want to root on this phone... ATM anyway and I doubt it will change. I used to think one click root was the way to go too but once again, there are potentially many things that can go wrong so knowing the tried and true manual ways is always best. Knowing how to recover from botched attempts has allowed me to bring my phone back from soft bricks several times.

Root and warranty

I am fed up with MIUI, and I want to revert back to stock Android. Usually when you root your phone you lose your warranty. But, I have heard that if you root a Xiaomi phone you don't lose your warranty. Is this correct or some hoax?

Rooting your phone and unlocking your bootloader is one thing.
When you try flashing the wrong ROM and brick your phone, it's a completely different story and no company in the world will give you warranty in that case

Just don't overclock your CPU and always keep the Stock ROM ready on your computer. And make a full nandroid backup using TWRP, before you flash any ROM, update or ZIP using the recovery
As long you get the right exact files for your model, verify the integrity before flashing, the chance to hard-brick is almost zero :fingers-crossed: Additionally, fully charge the battery before flashing anything. So you have enough time for rescue attempts, In case you turn into a heavy bootloop and cannot charge the phone
I hope that mine arrives soon, cant await to check out my new phone with Resurrection Remix :angel:

I dont know where u r living but I am in Europe and would like to know how warranty works for here ?

what warranty? chinese promise ?? you should be aware that with this kind of phone your resources of getting your phone fixed is quite limited. other than buying a replacement part and doing it yourself that is.

I am still thinking about buying it or not but I had already prepared myself to not having warranty but then when i saw this post I thought maybe there is sth. that i dont know about chinese thrustworthy
(other option is p10 lite with a bit more money but then have warranty and stuff) (still not sure)

huawai is also chinese company, the only difference is that they have retail business expanded to other countries where there usually cooperate with retailers and have some sort of service station. basically your contact is always where you buy your device, and they will handle it for you. i recently got my redmi and it's a pretty awesome device for the money it costs. quality wise it's on par to other devices. while you pay alot of money for a chinese brand phone... i am not to sure if it's worth it. it's like they are produced next to xiaomi production site anyhow...
i mean they have quality control and stuff so getting a faulty device is pretty slim, other than that if you crack your screen service doesn't really help alot as well because they charge too much money, other than that redmi note 4 is pretty easy to repair so if there is something going on you are free to try it yourself.

I live in India and they sell phones officially here. We don't have to export xiaomi phones here. So if they are selling phones here so they might have service centres where we can fix our phones. I am talking about that warranty ?

I think you should buy this phone because it is worth every penny. Other than Miui (that you can change) everything is perfect imo.

Then I guess only logical upper version to think about would be LG G5 SE .. Huawei is not an option anymore while its camera also not that quality also i guess

Dude I had a Samsung device which hard bricks within warranty period and I said at service center that my device is not booting they just replace the motherboard for free as there is no way to detect whether I rooted the device...

Dude! Warranty does gets void when you flash a custom recovery/rom on xiaomi devices!

But you can reinstall the stock rom and the recovery. The only question is the bootloader Unlock.

You can lock it by typing
fastboot oem lock
In the fastboot mode via cmd or flash the stock rom and select lock bootloader!

Yes you loose warranty. If you unroot it, you will have your warranty back.
To unroot, you must reflash the original software.
Unlocking bootloader won't affect warranty.

On another forum some guys said that when u unlock the BL the Huawei has this info (that u unlock it ) and u lose your warranty. I think always when you root you phone you lose .. Huawei just have this info about your phone .. is that real ?

In my country, if you unlock your bootloader, it won't affect warranty...because the people at the service unlock your bootloader so they can fix the stuff that you encounter.

when i asked for bootloader code, there was some mesaage with, "unlocking will void warant" .. and jeah, they can see, if you are requested bootloader code.. and jeah, waranty are lost if you change software as it wasnt intend. but flashing stock room will lock bootloader and will unroot phone, so warranty need to be back, but thats only theory. better dont try things with phone, if dont know what you are doing!

No I know how to root etc I had a lot of phones but it's the first time I have a Huawei phone and I didnt know if I root it they would know it .

I unlock my bootloader several times.one day i sent to center service and they change my motherboard with out any problems....

Yes

If you unlock the bootloader, you can easily root your phone. Did they install TWRP/CWM or any other custom recovery? Can you check it?
