Where to buy a touchpad for Windows 8 - Windows 8 General

i just installed windows 8 on my desktop and i am looking for a touchpad like the logitech t650 but less expensive. is there something of cheaper than it? i'd like a multi touch panel to use it as an input device to have a better user experience, according to the metro UI.
or, do you know if there's an app available on android to use a android phone as an input touchpad fully compatible with win8?

sorry for the question but......what is an ARC?
in my opinion a touch mouse is not so easy to use because it is small, i think that a flat touch screen panel as the touchpad t650 is better but at the moment it is too expensive for me.

Damaged X1 - Planning to replace X1 with Touch Diamond 2?

Hi folks!
My X1 recently stopped working and I had to sent it back to amazon. Instead of repairing or replacing it they gave me just the money.
Now I'm not sure wether to buy a new X1 or another almost newer phone. I'm thinking of the HTC Touch Diamond 2. The main reasons for this thoughts are:
+ smaller form-factor considering the thickness
+ leight weight (117g instead 147g)
+ built-in touchflo (no need to flash)
+ announced winmo 6.5 upgrade
Drawbacks may be the missing hardwarekeyboard and flashlight and no panel support?!?!
Any comments or suggestions what to do?
greetinx,
gordonshamway
Hi, why not a touch pro 2? its an upgraded x1 pretty much ok its not for sale yet tho..
Keyboard or not?
I'm not quite sure wether I need the hardware keyboard or not. I did not use it very often with the x1. FingerKeyboard just replaces the hardware keyboard. Together with the smaller form factor I think the diamond 2 will be the right choice for me

If you're not writing many emails, then go, get the diamond II. For SMS, the finger keyboard is doing good enough.
I was also thinking of changing the phones but I am writing mails quite often, so I'll stick with the x1 for a while

hi Alf.
I believe that You've answered Your question. I personally, cannot live without hardware keyboard. As x1 is my main pc of choice, so whether I am posting on forums, writing email or texting it is more convinient for me to have one. and form factor as I stated in other post is an epic win of xperia over, for example, touch pro 2. x1 doesn't look like a bar of soap in Your hand, so tbh I'd rather go for d2 if You don't need hard keys or ... give xperia another go.
I replaced my Diamond with the X1 because I didn't get on with the fingerkeyboard, it was too small for my fingers. I ended up using the stylus all the time. I'd stick with the X1 if I were you.
actually the touch pro 2 is already for sale, but the price tag is nearly $1000.00 USD

Getting an Android Tablet?

Any one here planning on getting one of the what seems like dozens of Android based tablets that will be coming out later this year?
What about Google TV? Anyone planning on springing for it?
I have already looked into many of the tablets that are available over seas right now.
Some are as low as $100 bucks... got to do more research though.
I've noticed some rumors of really cheap models <$150 (iPed)
But the specs are laughable in some cases even compared to our phones.
I have an iPad and it's pretty nice but it is really lacking in a lot of areas and I can't wait for a Nvidia Tegra 2 Android Tablet to come out so I can sell the iPad and get a real tablet that or one of the windows 7 tablets that are coming out too. I really just want iPad build quality Tegra2 hardware with a 10"+ screen and Android the iPad is really a faster larger iPod touch and iPhone OS has nothing on Android. It would be really nice if the guy who got Android running on the iPhone could port it to the iPad I would be in love because the build quality and the screen of the iPad are top notch pair that without the best mobile OS out and you've got a clear winner!!

I agree, There is no official Android Tablet out there, just the bull**** that comes out of China. If you have been current on engadget, you would have seen their china gadget segment where they show all the knock offs that china sells. I really dislike China in that aspect because they do sell knock offs of real gear. A real tablet in my opinion is not some ****ty operating system that runs one program at a time and does'nt use the "Internet" correctly.
In the mind of Steve Jobs, he is a self indulging lunitic who favors a internet world without flash apparently, A operating system without multitasking, A world without people who have more than 1/4 of their brains. Meanwhile a monkey deep inside apple corporation is telling the dev team how to build a phone os by pointing at bananas and various nuts and fruits.
A real tablet pc in my opinion is a Windows 7/Android based operating system with a ATI or Nvidia based chipset that can run Starcraft 2 or Farcry 2 out of the box. We just need to give the Android team time, they are just getting themselves situated in this field and I know we can expect some amazing **** to come in the future.

Its going to be a looooooooooooong time before we see a tablet that will run games as graphically intense as Far Cry 2. Most pc's other than fairly high end systems can barely run it, if at all................besides, you need a mouse and keyboard for games like that, doesn't fair well with a tablet..................Besides, tablets are a pain to carry around, don't fit in the pocket or on the hip....

I feel with gentures and multi-touch capabilities that we will be without the keyboard before long. i mean its long overdue regardles.... The keyboard is like what.....30 years old now? We need to move on to higher and better things especially with multi touch or even on screen keyboards.
I swear to god if our PCs start going to soft keyboards, I will personally huntdown and gut whoever made the push.

Agreed, I love my keyboard LOL.
I have a couple of tablet devices I use at work and there will never be a virtual replacement for the tactile feedback a keyboard gives you.

I don't think that will work well with games, unless they go the route of the Wii and use motion sensing.....
I love my keyboard and mouse......
I think touchscreen interaction is, at best, a sideways move from physical input devices. The future is going to be a pure thought-based interface.

I actually think games like starcraft 2 would be amazing on a tablet, using multiple fingers instead a lot of on screen clicking with a mouse you could micro easily and do a lot at once.
off-topic. anyone ever see people play starcraft (especially koreans) they are amazing good, I used to play sc a lot and couldnt come close to anybody actually good. starcraft is like a national sport in korea, best players are treated like celebrities.
Dig up your old starcraft cd key and you own it for life on blizzard website, you can download it as many times as you want and play online still...
I used my starcraft non broodwar cd key i found in a box in my attic and they gave me broodwar for free...
worth trying out.
Only if I can find mine, looked earlier when i seen i could try to get the beta for sc2

LOL this keyboard

there was so much hype about the keyboard when it came out and i had a thread in august or july about how it is totally overpriced at $150 and i thought $108-115 was a reasonable MSRP.
now that im typing on it, it really isnt that great. the keys are pretty cramped and i'm used to my mechanical keyboard so i keep missing keystrokes, thinking the keys will activate halfway down the stroke. instead of having to bottom them out. if the chicklet keys were more crisp it would be more tolerable but they are squishy and there is no definitive bottom out lol
cringing while i type this, anyone want to buy it?
and the reason im making this thread is because people ridiculed me for like 6 pages about how it's the best thing ever and they would pay 200 for it LOL
I could steal it....
Just messing, it is just like any new keyboard takes a bit of getting used to.
Saying that with it sat on the sofa as I type adding to the bounce probably pressed delete 10 times typing this out after making mistakes.
Honestly though you do get used to it and I use it all the time typing long emails or even creating quotes at work etc.
How long you had it ?
How much you willing to sell it for?
For typing long e-mails, this keyboard is much better than using the soft keyboard. It's definitely not perfect and if it were just a keyboard, I'm not sure I would have bought it but it also has a nice high capacity battery and that makes it better than any other keyboard on the market for tablets.
However it has 2 big issues for me:
1) Touchpad is way too sensitive forcing me to turn is off while I type.
2) Keys must be slammed on to complete a keystroke. Literally I feel like I'm driving down on each stroke which makes typing slower and more cumbersome.

Yep, definitely, the only downside to this keyboard is the touchpad. It's good that it's a tablet though because I always turn it off..
the battery is excellent i'll give it that
At the beginning I was like you, but 3 months later (or something like that), it's over. You just need to use it often, and it'll be better.
If you read the reviews at all, that have been out for a year now, you would know that the keyboard is crap. But it's a netbook keyboard and it's a one of a kind item. Yes, I would pay $200 for the keyboard because without the keyboard this tablet is worthless. Both in the aspect of the GTab 10.1 being superior tablet, and that I wouldn't want a tablet that I couldn't use as a netbook.
Do you people really just go out and buy things without doing any research/reading any reviews? Shame...

Lol, try Splashtop and make an RDP connection to your pc. Windows 7 on your tablet! Even better, use a good wireless keyboard connected to your pc to be able to sit in front of the tablet and use good old Office in stead of the crappy Office wannabee software such as Polaris. Saved me from buying an totally overpriced and dodgy Asus keyboard.

It isn't a full size keyboard. That should have been obvious before buying it. It isn't meant to replace a computer. Don't like it, return it or sell it. No reason for the thread. Personal preference is just that.

Keyboard is crap? I've owned the keyboard dock since day one and I find it indispensable. In fact, the transformer is just another ordinary tablet without it.
Then again, I need my device for business use. Perhaps those who don't like it, simply don't have a need for it.

i like the idea of the keyboard but these scissor switches are terrible
does anyone here actually have a mechanical keyboard?
I have used my keyboard for my last year of school and I would say that 75% of my use is with the keyboard on mine.. I agree that the keyboard is what makes the tablet.. Yes it is different then a regular keyboard.. its the same size as most netbook keyboards.. 92% of full size right?
I didnt like it at first either, but after a month on it, I can type just as fast on my transformers keyboard as I can on any of my other keyboards.. just have to give it some time.

I do, a Siig keyboard with Cherry Mx Blues (wanted to get a Das but I didn't have the cash for it).
I mean honestly, I've been typing on keyboards since I was a toddler (used to play with my mom's old portable IBM computer back when she was a consultant manager). Some keyboards are much more comfortable to type on than others depending on layouts and the technology under the hood so to speak, but with a little time you tend to get used to whatever you're stuck on (unless the keyboard in question is inherently broken, your hands are way too big, etc.)
For quick notes in class, my transformer is now simply awesome. Before I got my dock, it was a Netflix bed machine and not much else. After grabbing my dock from CL for $60, I actually have a handly little netbook/tablet now.
If you don't like it, that doesn't affect how much enjoyment I'll be getting out of mine. I hope you do come to enjoy the newfound utility of your Transformer though.
USB ports. That is all.

Did you read my post? I said that it was absolutely necessary, as the device p much sucks without it. That doesn't stop the keyboard from being total ****. It's very difficult to type on, even compared to normal notebook keyboards.

I use my keyboard daily! I blog a bit, do lots of business emails on it (much better than typing on an iPhone all day).
I always end up turning off the touchpad to type.
I would not buy a tablet without a real keyboard after having one.
BUT - That is my preference. Not everyone feels the same way about the keyboard.
And one great side effect is when someone asks you about your "laptop" or "netbook" and you tell them it is not either, but it is a tablet. Then you get to watch them have a nerdgasm when you undock it and keep using it.

Use this as touchpad??

I have a udraw game tablet for the Xbox 360...theses tablets are under 20 dollars online and seem to work very well. I know you can use them on the PC but can't find how to get this working...any ideas??

Here is some neat stuff I found:
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/touchpad-t650
This is what the OP is looking for. Like a big laptop trackpad with tons of gestures but it is $80 so probably not worth the money.
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/zone-touch-mouse-t400
Here is a mouse that replaces the mouse wheel with a trackpad with support for some gestures, including Windows 8 ones.
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/touch-mouse-t620
Finally this mouse has replaced the entire surface with a trackpad. I have no idea how awkward traditional pointing and clicking would be but it seems to be nice alternative to the traditional mouse with lots of gesture support. It is pricey though at $70 and it would probably take some time getting used to.

App concept - Win8 touch gesture remote

Hey guys,
I was just thinking about the win8 and the new metro UI. What they are going to offer to all non-touch screen Laptops and Desktops are those smart multi-touch pads. (like the apple magic pad or what-was-its-name...) (or like this one http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/touchpad-t650).
So I was thinking - wouldn't it be much better if we had a nice responsive touch capability WITH video on it... and here out Xooms are kicking in.
We all know that Splashtop Testbed exists, but it offers a remote desktop experience with correct resolution only on the Android Tablet. That means that what is to be seen on the actual PC screen is low res.
Wouldn't it be possible to make an App that will offer smart remote control for win8. I imagine the tablet next to my keyboard navigating the metro UI.
What do you think of that?
PS have a nice weekend
