According Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/02/nexus-10-review/ The N10 does not support Miracast after all (yet). Any opinions?
CENT says it does but seeing how no TVs support it yet (and won't until next year) you need an adapter.
"The Nexus 10 supports Miracast, which allows you to display Nexus 10 content wirelessly on compatible HDTVs or through the use of a Miracast adapter -- basically, an Android version of Apple's AirPlay Mirroring. However, according to Google, HDTVs with this technology won't hit the market until 2013, and the adapter I ordered didn't get to me before press time. As soon as I've had some time to test it, I'll update the review."

Canadian link but should be available in other regions.
I will be getting one shortly after I get my tablet and confirm it is there.
No more cables and it's portable!
I have a WD TV live player and Miracast says it supports it on their web site. So should I be able to stream movies from this tablet?
Now I feel dumb for buying a TV late in it's life cycle. Should I return it for something coming out at CES?
I have the Samsung UN46ES6500 and was having flickering issues with it anyways, was going to return it and get the UN46ES7500, but now I'm worried that at CES there's going to be a lot of cool features like Miricast that I'll be missing out on. Anyone know what else should be coming out in the next few months?

Google should have announced Miracast as a Nexus 4 feature, not Android 4.2. Lame.
That's strange... I watched Android developers hangout on YouTube last week and there they told that both the N4 and N10 support Miracast.
It makes zero sense that the N10 won't support Miracast. Never mind that it has a bigger screen and potentially more storage space than the N4, because there's no logical reasoning in the world that could explain this. Why would they remove a software feature from one device? Is Miracast an open standard, or is it proprietary?
I really doubt that the N10 will ship without Miracast, but we'll see once they actually deliver.

Any idea what the best adaptor for a TV would be? I use my tablet to film people I am training (I'm a PT) and then would like to show it on the TV in my gym so I can annotate the video for all to see?
This would be perfect, otherwise I'll need a very long HDMI cable.

As far as I know the only Miracast compatible adapter available at the moment is Netgear Push2TV PTV3000. But AndroidCentral review says that it didn't work with Nexus 4. This could be because of pre release firmware, but it seems no one knows for sure.

They didn't "remove" the feature from the Nexus 10. If the Nexus 10 doesn't wind up having Miracast it will be because it doesn't have the lower level software support yet. Just because Android 4.2 has support doesn't mean it will work on all hardware. Miracast requires support from the bottom of the software stack to the top of the stack.

Guys, the reviewers don't have the final Android 4.2 system on their Nexus 10's. Miracast, multiple user support etc, will come with an update on launch day (tomorrow)
So relax

Still not there according to JR Raphael.
Beyond what I said above about the whole stack needing to support Miracast...I'm not sure how Google/Samsung will support miracast since the display is 2560x1600. My guess is that they will scale the 2560x1600 down to 1080p but I'm not entirely sure whether that will be an option for them or not.

With all the new Honeycomb tablets and the majority of them being Tegra 2 based, is it really possible a Netflix app will not be made available to devices with non Qualcomm Snapdragon processors? I'm hoping this really is just a "Qualcomm first, Tegra 2 to follow" scenario. There will be a lot of upset Xoom (and other new tablet) owners if thats the case.
Well as I understand it.. it is a DRM issue. So the question is does Tegra have the DRM capabilities to satisfy the wanktards in Hollywood.

Nothing is stopping us from side-loading. Though since they are using some hardware level DRM stuff.. it is reasonable to assume it wont work on non-snapdragons unless the DRM can be fully bypassed.
It's a valid point in this thread. I'm a big Netflix fan and if the Xoom doesn't support the DRM requirements, it may drive some buyers towards other devices... However, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has the Tegra 2 as well.
Would really stink if we could only watch Netflix on our snapdragon cell phones, but not our $800 tablets.
It would be nice if Nvidia would come out and clarify whether or not this will be supported, considering that this applies not only to tablets, but a mass of upcoming phones as well.
As a side note: I'm surprised. I thought WP7 phones had Netflix support, and aren't they running on current-generation Snapdragon processors, or is this not the case?

Agreed. This is my current dilemma. I was hoping to lay in bed streaming Netflix WI to my Xoom, not to my EVO. Now do I wait for a snapdragon tablet instead? For some people a Netflix app isnt a big deal, but I dont have cable and I stream everything over my media center pc. So I was really counting on a Netflix app. Grrrr.

According to Apple's new subscription service requirements, Netflix will have to be 'purchased' through the app store, so Apple can take their 30%. I doubt Netflix is going to let this happen, and may pull the app like others are threatening, such as Audible.
DRM is built into Honeycomb so any app can utilize it.
2.3 and earlier OS don't have this so they require a hardware fix.

Netflix is a boon to Android. But do they even have much in the way of TV? I got rid of netflix 6 months ago because I found their TV library to be incomplete. Certain shows were missing early seasons, and whole shows I figured they would have were missing. I also have that complaint about HULU. I wanted to watch Star Trek TNG one day when I was bored, and instead had to discover Babylon 5. I only watched it because I was REALLY bored and heard about it on The Big Bang Theory. B5 was meh.
The DRM SDK in Honeycomb is used so developers can interact with the hardware DRM generically.
I thought Honeycomb could support Netflix, but I think that is only a development interaction layer.
I hope I'm wrong.
Honeycomb DRM
It would make sense that Tegra 2 has some sort of DRM solution, because Google basically built Honeycomb on the Xoom. They would need some hardware there to test the DRM framework. Although, this statement is 100% speculation.
I did a quick check on the Tegra 2 specs and I didn't see any DRM reference. I'm also getting the Thunderbolt and the Snapdragon specs for the phone does have DRM referenced.
It would be nice to see a DRM official reference/screenshot to the chipset the Xoom has.
I look at the specs, and all the pretties between the Xoom and the iPad 2 and the only thing I am envious about is that damn netflix. I am very very disappointed we don't have it at release and really no word in site about when / if the Xoom will get it.
Oh, and that magnetic cover is kind of cool.

Xoom will be getting it as it was announced for Tegra 2 processors. Who knows when though.
Yeah I hate waiting for the native Netflix & Hulu apps.
PlayOn could be a good alternative in the meantime, but the Xoom needs Flash for it to work. It's subscription based and a little pricey (about $40), but it works great on my Droid X.

All trolling aside, if you are really so dense as to not understand why netflix apps are popping up exclusively on closed software ecosystems and not android (hint: google "DRM") I should be the one spamming
NetFlix will be probably be released on a device-by-device basis as they figure out how design their software around protecting those who have the means to protect themselves
Netflix is kind of a must have app for me in my personal usage. I like to use it while on break at work. I have an iPad and I had an iP4 until pretty recently and they both play Netflix and Hulu really well. I have an Atrix now and love it, but no Netflix kinda sucks. I want to get a Xoom and give my gf the iPad but I want some Netflix action. If the lapdock dock for the Atrix wasn't so overpriced I'd pull the trigger on that because it will at least work with Hulu's normal site.

My question is what does this mean:
Pluggable DRM framework
Android 3.0 includes an extensible DRM framework that lets applications manage protected content according to a variety of DRM mechanisms that may be available on the device. For application developers, the framework API offers an consistent, unified API that simplifies the management of protected content, regardless of the underlying DRM engines.
And how would that affect/help Netflix
With the recent changes to Apple's subscription requirements, doesn't Netflix now have to offer a subscription for the same price or less in the itunes store? Since Apple takes 30% of all those purchases, I wonder how long it's going to take until Netflix gets pulled from iOS entirely.
I'm pretty sure the only reason we don't have netflix is because of Dalvik. It's incredibly hard to obfuscate your code enough to stop people from figuring out how you're decrypting the video stream. Now that processors are coming out with security features built in, they won't have to worry about that....
That's my thought anyway.

Looking at the Apple TV box at Best Buy today, I noticed it had a feature that would allow you to mirror/stream your iPHONE/iPOD or what not via the Apple TV box so that you could basically play your games and view it on the TV. I thought that was kind of cool.
I am a console gamer and noticing that gaming is starting to really become impressive on tablets/phones/etc.
Is there going to be anyway on the new Google Tablet to have something like this where I am sitting on the couch with the tablet and I could mirror/stream it on the TV and see it on the bigger screen like the Apple TV?
I haven't picked up a tablet yet. Honestly, I don't know why I want one. Guess I am a geek like that and I can't get a S III until like October. So I need to get something and was considering the Google Tablet.
Sucks that the tablet doesn't have a video out option though to connect directly to the TV.
Also, is there going to be anything on this that will act as a Google TV? I am somewhat looking into that as well and have been informed of the Google TV from Vizio that is set to take preorders in July.
Just trying to figure this all out so I can purchase the 1 right device instead of many devices.
Thanks,

Is an extra $300 really the only option for this that we know of at this point?
Your best bet is the Vizio Co-star, like you said. The price difference between it and the nexus q is unjustifiable for a number or reasons:
vizio will have a dedicated tv ui
can also stream from tablet to vizio
most likely can stream 3rd party content, or at least control it from the n7
$200 price difference, might as well buy a receiver with more features than the nQ
the Q is a very interesting concept. Buying it would be supporting american made products, but its uses are limited atm, especially for the price.
Honywld, a Taiwanese company is producing another sub $100 google tv. It's confirmed to be a streamer with "airplay-like features," although it likely wont make it state side.
All other GTVs are either no longer supported, or over $200. That should change as more OEMs announce GTVs, but again, as of now, its the Vizio.
cheers
Questions go in the Q&A section
So this is it? Not even a real pogo cable, case, stand, nothing? Is Google and Samsung going to pretend that this tablet does not exist?
One of the most shameful product releases in recent memory considering the performance of this machine.
I'm incredibly disappointed too. Nexus 10 and Verizon G-Nex and left in the dirt. I just want an official case and dock for my N10 already.
Just because is not available yet, it doesn't mean it will never happen. Nexus 7 just got their official dock, after all this time, so it might be a while but don't act like this is a 2 year old device. Might happen or might not, nobody knows.

I do not like the way Google is handling this. Any OEM accessories should have been out on launch. Not more than half a year down the line.

ha ha! Yeah, I am in the same boat - bought both of these, and had to deal with 3rd party stuff.
Maybe I should warn everyone what I am about to buy so they know OEM stuff will never be made for it. I am cursed.

I agree, this is supposed to be a high end tablet and it definitely should've had official accessories right from the start . they dropped the ball on that one.

Maybe it is Samsung? Nexus 4 had bumper and now orb. Did official wireless charger for GS3 ever come out?

Nope, never did, but rumours suggest the GS4 will have wireless charging
Best solution is to buy yourself a Qi insert and Qi charge pad, that's what I'm gonna do for my GS3.

Just curious, why do people prefer official accessories over third-party if they do the same thing? Is it a hassle using third-party products?
But yeah, Google are being annoying. Again!

We don't have either. The only accessories out that i am aware of are third party cases, and a single supplier for the pogo cable.
Is it a case of the product not selling enough that third party manufacturers see no economic sense in designing and manufacturing things such as charging docks or keyboard docks etc, or maybe google/samsung have put a legal block on them doing so, or maybe the software knowhow required to make use of the pogo pins.
Either way it just makes no sense to seemingly sabotage such a great device. Be it the abysmal stock levels, ridiculous re-stock times and refusal to allow pre-orders so that they simply know how many they need o get in to fufill orders and then keep in stock, seeming refusal to support an advertised feature of the product. If they advertise magnetic pogopin charger under the device features, then even someone with zero common sense or business sense would agree that if you market this feature then you support this feature, but instead we have had to wait for 3 months or whatnot for a third party very expensive pogo charger. That is just something that should have been included with the product let alone be available to buy form the play store on release day.

Our problem is that we don't have good third party cases either. All we have are cases from no name makers. And even the popular ones (like poetic slim book) are made incorrectly for the tablet. That case in particular pulls the nexus 10 too tightly from either side and causes the screen to lift away from the tablet.
All big name companies have said no to producing cases for the nexus 10 to my knowledge. We have nothing that uses our dock pins and nothing that uses our pull away back plate.
Basically boils down to this tablet having next to no support. One of the reasons I'm not buying another Nexus device. Can't blame Samsung because their devices all get accessories right away from launch. Different s pens, cases and docks. The Nexus 10 has been out for several months now without so much as that damn cover the tablet was demoed with.

Alright, I got it. I was unaware of the lack of even third-party accessories. Just got my N10 yesterday. That's a shame then.
Is there a name for that cover you speak of (the one that was demoed)? I wanna peak.

No name. But when the Nexus 10 was announced, there was a cover that clipped into the magnets we have under the tablet body and was just a simple cover that laid over the screen like a smart cover. This has yet to be released or even talked about. And there is no third party case like it.
Things are starting to popup on the play store. A new case for the Nexus 7 just showed up!

So i am guessing that N10 accessories will start appearing soon!

Sure, if they get so delayed as as nexus 7 ones, probably in September we will have first accesory on the market (and with a highly limited distribution)

Hmm, I could of sworn that case was available on Play Store for a while now, idk for sure though.
Minisuit has several cases for the n10. I got the leatherish one with Bluetooth keyboard and love it.

I've had that case for a while on my Nexus 7. Got it from the Asus store when they gave N7 buyers a free voucher. Not sure if it's a recent addition to the Play Store.

Just keep in mind that Google is dependent on Samsung. The reason the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 accessories were delivered is because of the OEM making the device. What Google needs to do is rethink Samsung's involvement in a Nexus device in the future.

If what was delivered was 1:1 I wouldn't really care. As far as the POGO Im done, I got two from the 3rd party and I have no desire for Samsung to make one of those anymore. The problem is there is still no charging/audio dock available from anyone and there is no smart cover available from anyone (the closest we get are those like the Poetic but those add bulk because of the fact they are a full clip-in case).
