I'll pass on both. The only things that this current xoom is incapable of doing is the 1080p recording and IR. Everything else, adobe 11, and stream Netflix is possible on the current xoom. I won't buy a new device just to record in 1080p and IR.

Xoom 2
My mother always said to finish what I have started before moving on to begin something new.
Well mororola how about my sdcard support?
I'm debating on selling my Xoom as is and getting the new one. I have a feeling it'll drop in October. I hope it does come with an IR port. I could finally use my Xoom as a remote control for my TV and possibly my 360.
How much do you guys think the 10 incher will run?

That does sound nice, but moto most likely doesnt care about this one anymore, hence the new ones coming already
There's enough stuff to make it ever so slightly tempting, but not enough to make me really care to put the effort or money into updating to the newer model. Wondering how pricing will turn out for our xooms and the new models.

I've been on a custom rom since the first day I got my xoom, so my experience on the matter is lacking, but I thought the SD card support was related to the honeycomb version which is controlled by google, not motorola. Didn't the release of 3.2 add SD card support? At least to some extent...

Definately. Drawing on the Xoom's is laughable. I have better results on my iPad.
Look at the pic for Media edition, possible Ice Cream Sandwich??? or Blur? of course it could just be me overthinking it
I don't get it. Maybe if you want 1080p and some really ugly corners. Will have to see the final specs but this seems like a minor incremental upgrade at the moment. Fine with Xoom 1 for now.

I just spent a few weeks with a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet specifically for its N-Trig digitization and must say that freehand writing, PDF annotation, and Autodesk Sketchbook Pro transform a slate into a nice conference room and classroom tablet. The new Xoom's leaked specs make it possibly to thin to carry on on board stylus slot like the Lenovo.
Btw, I love my xoom rockin' Tiamat!

How's your Xoom and Sketchbook working out? Mine has a lag and jumps when I'm drawing. I can't get a straight line consistently. I really hope it's just the apps fault and not a defective panel.
I can't wait to see a video walkthrough of the new Xoom.

Hi guys my wife just got me a Wifi Xoom from Costco for my birthday. I want to see how everybody feels about their Xoom and if I should return it and wait for a newer tablet. I already have a rooted Evo 4g so I don't need the 3g version of the Xoom.
I'd great appreciate some feedback.

I've had my Xoom for a little over a week and think it's the best thing I've ever owned. My iPad doesn't even compare and ended up giving it to my kids. Love the form factor, great screen and Honeycomb rocks. I highly recommend keeping it if you like Android.
On the other hand, the iPad is much more "dummy proof" and much better for someone not very technical.

I think the question is, what are you planning to use the tablet for? The Xoom still has some features that are a little better than some tablets, and is also missing features compared to some others. Also if cost is a concern, you are almost guaranteed to be better off in 3-6 months since the newer series will be out by then and you'll see discounted clearance prices.
SO, tell us what you think you're going to do, and how comfortable you are in waiting, and I think we can better answer your question.

Ill mostly use it for reading and surfing the net. Also ill be doing the usually nerdy stuff by trying out new ROMs and such.
I wasn't considering an iPad, I was more curious about if the performance isn't up to par, and if I should wait for a better honeycomb tablet.

These questions are so stupid. It's like asking if you would prefer a blue dress or the red one with laces... C'mon dude, there is an argument on both sides on whether or not you should keep the xoom, wait for another tablet or get an ipad. At the end of the day, it depends on your personal preference, your knowledge of computers/ android os and YOU doing research. Everyone's taste is different! If you don't like the question dude then don't read it. The subject made it pretty obvious what the question was.
Back to the question: I've had the Xoom since Feb 24 and like it a lot. I use it primarily for web browsing, news reading (RSS), email and FB, and the occasional game. I had an iPad for 8 months and was sick of the iOS limitations so happily gave it up.
The only thing I don't like about the Xoom is the rear facing speakers. When watching a video on the web or doing a video chat, to hear the sound good I either have to really crank the volume up, or cup the speakers to get the sound to come forward.
Thanks for the feedback. I've been playing with it all morning. I'm still trying figure out the best way to type on it though. Browsing isn't as smooth as I would like and it is a little heavier than I would like. My kindle spoiled me there. Everything else seems work pretty well. Email, tapatalk, google reader work well on the tablet.
Still trying to find useful 'tablet' apps though.

I picked up a wifi Xoom the other day, since I decided it's a keeper it's already rooted and isn't going anywhere. I also have a Viewsonic G Tablet which is nice but doesn't hold a candle to the Xoom. The G Tablet is now for hacking and testing software that I'm developing.

Right now its not a great deal having a xoom. For me its been kind of a dissapointment the apps support. Not even google have updated theyre own apps! they work but are not for tablet and low awful. The apps from big company names like facebook, twitter, etc havent even bother to upgrade to honeycomb. Maybe in 5 month we will find more than 20 apps for tablet (if you are from other country other than us. you cant install many honeycomb apps), but by that time xoom will be obsolete and there will be xoom 2 or whatever

You do realize that the Honeycomb/tablet interface 3.0 is a mere 9 weeks old? Apple's IOS for tablets had already been out for roughly 55 weeks and had the the advantage of using existing iphone apps from June of 2007?
I believe Android didn't come around until November of 2009.
It took Apple quite some time to deliver apps and polish the software to where it is today.
It does take time and I would think Google is prepared to put up a hell of a fight.
interesting discussion guys, I am about to decide whether to buy xoom or ipad 32GB wifi.
Simple user, prefer a stable and trouble free tablet for daily use. Occasional movie, email, light gaming and some ebook reading. Wont be experimenting much. Almost decided on xoom, any last moment advise?
I love my Xoom. My only concern is the lack of apps. I think 6 months from now it won't be an issue.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
The XOOM is waiting for one or more important software updates. The XOOM was the first HC tablet and has been out the longest. I have also yet to see these other tablets advertised (as) much. Which one will get the most app / accessory support? My bet is on the XOOM regardless of which tablet ends up being technically superior later in the year. When things don't end up working as well other tablets (even though they perhaps should) as the XOOM, I'll be mostly unaffected.
The LG G-Slate has a smaller screen and lacks a SD Card Slot. The newer Samsung Galaxy Tab lacks a built-in HDMI port. The HTC Flyer may have their Sense UI Skin on it, I personally dislike manufacturer skins. The ASUS Transformer's build quality is not as good IMO but it can be had cheaper and supports mouse usage with optional dock. The Toshiba Tablet will have a full SD Card size card slot. Rea search the differences, decide what is important to you.
I'm returning my Xoom, and I'd just like to thank all the devs for their hard work. I'm returning it since I'm not very happy with what Motorola's doing, with (still) no working SDCard. I know Tiamat does that, but my Xoom just ate up an SDCard Also, I'm not as impressed with Tegra 2 as I thought I would be, so that's basically why.
Thanks.
Are you planning on getting a different tablet now?

Definitely, but not now. I'm probably getting something Tegra 3, which is coming out probably in a few months. Also, I'm sorta mad at Google for not releasing Honeycomb Source, which severely hinders what we can do with development. I know that it isn't the fault of the devs; hell, we still got BRD's rom, but we didn't get as much development as I thought.
Well asus seem to have released 3.1 code so im not sure it's Google's fault ?

That's the kernel source, which Asus have to supply as it is GPL code.
It isn't the Honeycomb source.

I also really loved the Motorola Xoom, but with it not officially supporting the microSD card I exchanged it and got the SGT 10. So far I really liking the SGT 10 feel and though it doesn't have some of the features I had on the Xoom or a MicroSD card slot. I will be keeping the SGT 10 as my 10" tablet.
Im also be selling mine. Its not about motorola that im dissapointed. its honeycomb. It just seems like no dev cares about it, not even google update theyre own apps to honeycomb. The market place for honeycomb is broken since day 1. Apps that i was interested in are region locked...(books,earth,maps navigation, video).
I was happy with my android phone even with 2.1 because apps that i like worked fine.Thats why i thought buying an android tablet with the latest firmware will be my next step but i was wrong.
At first i didnt like the ipad (it just looks like a big ipod) but they have apps that works, no region lock on books, music, videos , the game library is interesting... all those things that i forgot why did i choose android.

Thanks for voiding the warranty, shortening the life span and then when custom software didnt work for you, returning the product. Those of us in the retail industry really appreciate it
I have both the XOOM and the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
After using the Galaxy Tab 10.1 my appreciation for the XOOM has increased tremendously. For whatever reason, the XOOM is smoother and more responsive - significantly so. Everything about the XOOM from build quality, to SD slot (at least it has one that can be made to work) seems better to me on the XOOM. And charging times on my GTAB 10.1 are horrific. I spend more time charging it than using it.
Oh, and something a lot of people seem not to have considered: for movie playback you are locked into the 4GB limit again with the GTAB 10.1 which means you are forced to limit the bit rate of your movies to make them fit. You can use as high a bit rate as you want on the XOOM as long as you store your movie on internal storage which has no 4GB limit. This means that many of the movies that you converted for your XOOM may not be usable on the GTAB 10.1 if they exceeded 4GB and you may be forced to re-encode them.
Only major advantage with the GTAB 10.1 is the screen, and to lesser degree the weight - and honeslty, unless you're an absolute movie buff, the XOOM screen is pretty good despite all the criticism.
I think a lot of the complaining is an excuse to aquire a new toy.
No, I won't be getting the Asus or the Samsung, mostly for the same reasons as why I'm returning my Xoom. It's mainly because I'm not happy with Tegra 2 (that Samsung Exynos is pretty awesome IIRC) and that it's worth the wait of maybe 3 months.

No argument here. Tegra 2 is so bad it has made me re-think my choice of graphics processor in my PC - makes me start to doubt NVIDIA's quality in other devices. Just hope Kal El isn't another disaster. Really wish there were more choices. I think if Samsung had gone with Exynos and an SD slot, it would have swept the market. Ironically, they may have stuck with Tegra so they could support Tegra games and Netflix DRM. And we still haven't gotten Netflix anyway.

Lack of games
Try throwing 720p anime/movies on any t2 tablet..
I have a xoom and love it but I can't turn a blind eye to the issues that it has.
I love my xoom, and it does what I expected it to do when I bought it. Does Motorola suck at software updates, yes. We all knew this from any other moto phone. That's why Google is good. Also, I have never noticed a shortage of devs on xoom. On games, well I have patience, there are more and more cool games released every day. The screen, well it is not perfect, but capable, same as the tegra chip.
So in short, I see how some may be disappointed, but in all reality, they shouldn't be. (unless they were not very smart and bought a 4g tablet, then you have every right to be disappointed about the lack of an upgrade)

The only valid argument in this thread about returning a xoom is the lack of support for other country with many google service, and this is not google fault it's company who are enforcing drm to the limit.
As for the sd issue, it will get fixed soon, I can understand an early adopter to be pissed off but if he managed to wait until now it's a matter of week now.
out of topic but I have a panasonic blue ray that have netflix installed, but it doesn't work in my country, can you believe this...
The screen on my unit is quite nice, not sure why some people complain.. so far I am happy with the xoom so I keep it, I have a 3 month return windows with costco, I will evaluate my option by then but so far it's a keeper!
hi everyone , ive just bought my motorola xoom mz604 , and i think its awesome because android honeycomb is really good OS, it is fast and smooth
but iam having some problems with installing apps, and i realized that most of them aren't compitable with the xoom, like the android games hawx, assassins creed and modern combat 2...
anyways i just wanted to know the adv and dis-adv of my device from an expert
thnx =)
sorry for my bad english
Answering the question in your title, the xoom IS good... very good, in fact. Sure there are a few apps here and there that do not work, but for the most part, everything runs fine. Additionally, the new scaling option in 3.2 ensures that more apps are functional. I simply love the beauty and elegance of honeycomb, and I still find the xoom to be my preferred method to obtain the honeycomb experience. Plus, being Google's reference HC device, we get all of the updates first.
I like it

What about the Galaxy Tab displeases you and makes you want to switch to the Xoom? They are about even on features and such, with the Galaxy being slightly lighter and thinner.
Ummmm. Its the "google dev" device. With that said...
Moto is a horrible company
The xoom 3g has turned into the last tab to recieve updates
Still no promised 4g
Sd support is only soso...
I would recommend a samsung device...the xoom is a bastardized piece of hardware. Go with a device that is "popular" thus will be supported more....not the xoom

I couldn't disagree more, but to each his own...
I'm plenty happy with mine, just a wifi though and no cell network model. That, honestly, is probably the issue with slow updates just like it is for my epic: the company that runs the network it's attached to wants to manage its stuff (aka install crap and extra 'features') and is slowing down the process. Sprint is HORRIBLE with this.
As for why I chose the xoom over others - part of it was price, it was the $400 32gb wifi model off woot.com. Second was that it has actual ports on it (micro-usb, mini-hdmi, etc) and not some proprietary jack *cough*galaxytab*cough* that you need to hook up some dorky dongle to in order to get a usb port.
I'm pissed that the Xoom 3.2 update only let's you read the SD card but not write. That's ass backwards to me.
I have to root this thing to get that basic feature. I think they still haven't figured out the issue that devs figured out. Other than that I like it and apps are slowly starting to catch up.

I have had the chance to play about with most of its major rivals in the 10 inch space (The Transformer and the Iconia and a 7 inch Tab) and while each has pros and cons (and nearly identical tech specs), I prefer the Xoom for several reasons...
The build quality is excellent. The device feels solid and durable while also giving off a sense of luxury. Most people who have handled it have commented on how "high-end" the Xoom feels.
As a Google experience device (thanks to special ordering a US model), the Xoom has the best chance of the current crop of tablets to run Ice Cream Sandwich well in a few months.
The XDA community for the Xoom is the best developed of the current slew of tablets with many excellent developers and plenty of other users willing to help and guide you (and "gently" remind you when you are being an idiot).
I like the design of the Xoom, with the power button recessed on the gently curved back. The placement works well for me and I prefer it to having the power button on the front of the edge of the tablet.
Those are my reasons for choosing the Xoom as the first amongst equals, but as always, ymmv. I suggest you find a store with demo models of most brands and see which one feels right to you.

Fair Enough. Touchwiz might be able to be disabled when it comes out but maybe not. The xoom comes with a bit of crapware itself, dungeon defender and cordy are the ones that come to mind though there may be more.
It would not be worth the cost to me but to each his own. You could probably find a xoom owner who is fed up with Motorola enough to do a trade.
xoom
I totally agree with you. I bought mine with a $100 off coupon from staples. I initially wanted to buy the tranformer now looking back I dont regret my purchase. Love my xoom.

I had to fiddle around with the formatting in order to make it work, but I know the problem you had and eventually got around it. Try ntfs, fat, or whatever - just mess around with it in your computer until you find one that it likes. I forget offhand what made mine happy.
So I told myself, "Self what I really want for this Christmas is an Android tablet".
Now I would like to know which Android tablet you people are planning to get by Christmas. I know tablets are gonna be the top thing to get then so I could see competition stepping up. I'm gonna want a wifi only one with the option to tether my Vibrant to it (yes Im planning to still have at least one of my Vibrants by then). I know the Ipad2 and the HP pad seem a lil ahead of the game compared to the Android tablets but I'm sticking to Android cuz I want to have the freedom to customize it like I did this Vibrant. Do not reply if your NOT getting an Android tablet please.
So which Android tablet are you getting and why?

Funny you ask, I've only ordered mine (a first for me and a new one too) from Ebay just a couple days before. Aaaaaand it's a ViewSonic G tablet.
Why you ask? Well for 3 main reasons; The 10.1 inch screen, the Unmatched Dev community it flashes (only 2nd to the 7" Galaxy tab) and the great price....Im getting this for as low as 250$ with a 16gb sd and a screen protector. Couldnt have asked for a better really.
Oh and did I mention the rush of a flashmania circling through my system since I received shipping details, CRAAAAZY
If I get one it's probably going to be the asus eepad or the acer iconia, just because they're the cheapest 10" honeycomb tablets. I'm still hoping for touchpads to come back in stock though........
I'm waiting to see what comes with Ice cream sandwich and how it changes things.

Just looked at that one on ebay, but looks like they put some kind of crappy skin on it. I'm hoping that you can flash that off of there for stock honeycomb?

I like the 10.1" Galaxy Tab but its too thin for me. People seem to go with the thinnest out there to show off but I want one that doesn't feel that I could snap it in half, like the Toshiba one.

Outside of watching video on Netflix in bed because I don't want to move my XB360 into the bedroom, I don't see a reason to even look at a tablet, TBH. They're overhyped devices that don't offer much more than Smartphones in a more restrictive form-factor. That's the only reason I'm thinking about it, and that's why the crappy 1st gen Samsung Tab would be more than good enough for me.
I don't trust those cheaper brand, TBH...
I wonder if the Blackberry Playbook has a Netflix App...

Not sure if it will be on a tablet by then but I would think if the Prime is supposed to come out then I wouldn't be surprised to see a tablet came out around then. If I had to buy one now I would get the Asus transformer. I really like the idea of the keyboard dock.

Funny cuz the main reason I want one is cuz I like watching Netflix or Hulu in bed b4 crashing out for the night since its the only time in the day (or night) I get to watch anything. My HP laptop 19" is nice but it thinks its also a toaster oven and my Vibrant is nice but I want a lil more screen size

Pretty much the same for me. Maybe I'll look into a 11.6" notebook and get a cooling pad for it. That may be cheaper than a tablet, even... And certainly more useful.

True.. and cooler than a big one but wtf lets be honest...I just want one
i already have a gslate, if i knew the galaxy tab was coming to tmo, i would've waited.. Gslate's bootloader is locked.. Blecchh.. Samsung have the decency to not to lock their devices.
It's like lg thinks gslate users are dummies or something.. Lol
No, it's like LG and T-Mobile don't want to blow their cash on unnecessary support to customers who brick their phones and then lie about it.
Hey guys, the Prime specs have just been released, is anyone contemplating getting the Prime? Asus has so far has a good track record with updates and also the Prime is going to be getting ICS. Will you be keeping your Xoom? Or will you be trading it in for the new quad-core tablet? I love my Xoom and it will only get better with the ICS update and the source released so the devs will truly be able to do their magic but, the Prime looks pretty good and its tempting seeing as it lines up with Christmas.
Link for the specs.
I personally will be holding onto the Xoom until further notice. The Prime is only the first of many quad core tablets lined up for release, like how the Xoom was for Honeycomb. I am a hardcore Droid fan since the launch of the OG Droid, thus I will get a quad core tablet when Motorola launches theirs. I have been waiting very patiently for a quad core tablet since late last year, and I can hold out awhile longer knowing the great ones are on their way.
As tempting as the Prime is, I can control the urge to buy. The Xoom can be overclocked quite high without terrible loss in battery life, and it zips along with great speed. No worries for me!
I need Verizon LTE so no upgrade for me until a quad core LTE table launches.
Holding out for something better. I want to see more ram in the two to four GB range and a higher definition screen .
these arguments are exactly what is kind of preventing me from getting a prime. Also the fact that development will be slow and that the full potential of the prime may not be unlocked until other tabs pop up later... Also in the games arena, tegra3 dedicated games may not come out for a while if at all? so just cuz you have a quad core, you may still only get the same user defined power as our xoom (not sure on that this is my own assumption at present)
Well it looks like my xoom is going to be like my alienware m9700. Old as dust and still kicking butt! I just don't see enough of a performance jump in the tegra 3. Shadowgun plays just as smooth on the xoom, so do videos. I want to see a tablet that supports USB burners, hdd, printers, and everything else my laptop does. Without a damn keyboard!!! I can do everything with my xoom except burn dvd's.

i'll use my Xoom until it can't perform as good as I need it too..
I am not doing anything massive with my Xoom so I imagine it will be kicking along until Android x.x won't install on it anymore.
I'm finding it hard to resist the Prime tbh. I'm a bit of a gadget freak and I really like the look of the Prime. That said, I'm sure my Mrs would go ballistic if I bought another tablet before I'd had the Xoom even a year...!

BTT:
Well, I never liked Asus-products' look and feel (lol @ the transformer) and I can't think of a real benefit right NOW. So I'll wait for something "better" ...
NO LTE, no Tablet for me
I love the specs on the Prime. It's like a Xoom only better in just about every way (not to say that I don't already love my Xoom) but until they make a LTE version I won't be buying. I am not going to hassle with Tethering or have to wait until I have Wi-Fi. When I really use my tablet is when I am not at home or not at work and often traveling.
I would love the faster Browsing speed though, Quad Core with LTE = kick butt browsing.
Dan
The Asus Prime is very competitively priced. It's actually the same price as the first TF 32GB when it was announced, and it'll probably be lower than the Xoom2 10" at 32GB. A little surprising for Asus, who were positioning themselves as a premium brand. Then again, it's hard to buck the $500 ceiling set by the iPad.
Nice to see the price competition. Although personally I'm not a fan of the hybrid package, and the Prime's ergonomics is wanting. But it looks great, which is what matters.
I'd like to see performance benchmarks vs OMAP4, and also the rooting issue. Some of the Asus TF B70 stepping models (going back since August) still haven't been rooted.
>I would love the faster Browsing speed though, Quad Core with LTE = kick butt browsing.
If you need a quad to web browse, then the problem is the OS & software, which for Android at the moment is still kind of true.

This is so true, a single core @ 1ghz should be more than enough for basic trivial tasks.

The Xoom 2 looks a little uninteresting ....

Simple answer though... because I'm paying for it.
Now... whether that would work...?
I about to sell my xoom, and waiting for Prime. But then, i -rethinking that i bought my xoom for $530.If i want sell it now, i would lose around $200. It's not worth. So i guess i keep my xoom, waiting for ICS. And i'll buy a new Window 8 tablet.
I hope Tegra 3 can play any video you throw at it without the need to convert. It may be worth to upgrade to one if I have the money to do so.

That's one of the reasons I'm considering the Prime.
I assume you're talking about hi-res and not just file format? MX Player Pro's codec package will play about any file format on my Xoom without the need to convert.
But the Xoom doesn't have enough power to play hi-res MOV's. Maybe the Tegra 3 will .... we'll see.
