[Q] Locked out - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have nexus 7. I tried to many pattern attempts and the tablet locked. It aks me to log into gmail but it won't accept the username and password. The password is correct, i tried on my pc and phone. The problem is that the tablet is disconected from wifi. Is there a way to unlock it or connecting it to wifi without losing all my data?

If your bootloader is unlocked, it is fairly easy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33029578&postcount=4

Shouldnt it connect to wifi automatically when its turned on?

Not if wifi is disabled.

You can access the status bar from lockscreen?
Or cant you access the lockscreen? Just the google login page?

You can still unlock the bootloader without booting android.
Boot into bootloader using power and volume down.
Get the nexus toolkit and unlock boot loader, flash cwm recovery and factory reset

I have the nexus 7 toolkit. Instaled the drivers and everithing. When i connect the tablet in fastboot mode the pc does not see it. When i tipe adb devices it shows nothing. The tablet connects in mtp mode while its in lock screen but when i start bootloader or recovery mode windows says usb device not recognised.

Adb is for when the tablet is booted and debugging is on.
Try fastboot devices. If its not there check device manager again

Bootloader unlocking

Hey, loads of you have unlocked bootloaders and I'm wondering if i should unlock mine. I'm a heavy xperia arc user but I am not a developer or anything. Does doomlords kernal make your phone FAST? Do you recommend me unlocking?
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
I'd say do it.
Can root every ROM and DooMKernel is great (overclock and other mods)
And most ROMs need a custom kernel --> unlocked bootloader needed

Thanks, well i was thinking of sending my phone in for a housing replacement in a couple of weeks, if my bootloader is unlocked, SE might trick me into saying the bootloader caused my phone to overheat meaning the crack in the housing came, lol.

Imo, it's quite easy.
And the only other way to unlock the BL is the testpoint method.

[Q] nexus 4 debugging not working :(

Hey guys! So I just got a nexus 4 today and I went to use wugfresh nexus root toolkit, did it successfully (unlocked boot loader, rooted it), as soon as I took it out of the box. I got a system update right after I did all that, so I updated it. Now I lost root, and when I go to root it again, I can't seem to get the adb thing to work, it says its offline due to some security thing on 4.2.2, and I tried everything it said to get debugging to work, and nothing works! I unchecked and checked it again, plugged in a different USB port, restarted phone and computer countless times, and even tried it on a galaxy nexus to see if the box comes up with the computer fingerprint thing, and it didn't work on that either :/ is this a computer issue? How can I fix it? Any help would be great, thanks!
Try changing storage from MTP to PTP and checking unchecking debugging as new drivers may need to install.

I'll check it out, thanks. But weird thing is, I rooted a nexus 7 on 4.2.2 with no problem using the same tool kit, and the box with the computer fingerprint showed up after clicking on android debugging enabled, so idk why it isn't working with the gnex and n4 :/
i tried what you said, it doesnt work. in command prompt i get error: device offline.
what do i do now? :/

Odin is for Samsung, not gonna work on nexus. Why not just flash stock images via fastboot, then lock, unlock, lock bootloader. That's what I did when I broke the screen on my first n4.

Yea, just flash factory image via fastboot. That'll erase everything and return it to completely brand new like state when powered on.

[Q] How to save files from soft bricked Nexus 4

Hi all; I have a soft bricked Nexus 4. I need a way to save it without wiping the files. I have an audio file I need to rescue from the phone. All online solutions I have found so far assume that I can access the phone features/settings (I can't) or that I can remove the battery (I can't - it's a Nexus 4). The phone is stuck in recovery mode.
I'd be hugely appreciative if anyone can tell me how to either:
A) retrieve my audio file from the phone
or
B) unbrick the phone without losing data
Do you have a custom recovery or are you stock? Also, is your bootloader unlocked?
What did you do to get in the condition the phone is on now?

Thanks, jd1639. I *think* the only thing that happened was that the battery went dead. The battery is not dead now.
Recovery Mode screen says fastboot mode and it says locked.
I guess I am stock? I don't do anything fancy to my phone. I'm too much of a noob.

Is it working now? If it isn't you'll not be able to recover your file. Doing anything will wipe the device.

If you can't boot thart's nothing left to do at this point. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the device. But you might be able to save the device
