Agreed. Things are far more complex than they were in the early days. It would be a long road. Rooting is the easy part

I disagree. It took an act of Congress to get root and install a new ROM just 8 months ago. ****'s cake now.
Well I went through a little time being nervous too but I read and read and just did it. Never asked 1 question. Still rarely do. I'm just saying if this is how the journey is starting it's gonna be long.

Doesn't matter for achieving root. That doesn't come into play until your flashing recovery/ROM/kernel.

Well it's mainly because most of the root procedures include flashing a new recovery/ROM. The idea of rooting in itself isn't device specific. It's simply adding the su binaries to the ROM.
I don't know what Hboot is and i don't know if i have 32a or 32b. I have like 250 mb of memory I think, I read somewhere that 32b has 192? I dunno.
My baseband is 62.50SJ.20.17u_2.22.28.25
Kernel 2.6.32.9-g93b855e
build number 3.56.531.1.cl300801 release keys
How do I know if i have the correct USB drivers installed?:
You NEED to put your phone on USB Debugging mode
You NEED to install make sure the Android drivers for your phone are installed
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
If you still can't get something to run, try doing it in recovery mode.
I know I can mount my sd card when I use usb, but does that mean the usb drivers are installed?
Do u have sdk installed on your PC?
Sent from my Dream/Sapphire using XDA Premium App
I have SDK installed on my pc, but I don't know how to use it.
Well I used that oneclick root and it worked. niiice, although when I go to emulator and type SU nothing happens, but when the program did the root test, it said it was rooted. so I don'tk now
I am not sure on even how to get into any mode after phone is shut off. I want to try installing some roms, but obviously I need radio and spl to install. I don't know how to do that with the MT3G
When u open terminal u get
$
When u type su u should get a new line with
#
Does this happen?
Read the stickies at the top of this general section. U will find all the info u can handle on fastboot, adb, sdk and so on

How can I unlock my Samsung Vibrant phone

Hi,
I have bought a Samsung Vibrant from T-mobile. And I have read this thread about loading pit, pda for Samsung phone. Is there a pit/pda for Samsung vibrant which let me use a non t-mobile sim?
http: / / forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Thank you.
SGS Unlocker from the market should work.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Is there any option which is free?
Galaxy S Unlock in market is free but requires root-as they all do/will. There is also another thread in the Q&A about this very issue.
The easiest free way to do this is to call T-Mobile and ask for the SIM unlock code. If you have had it this long, they usually won't have an issue giving you the code.

You need to have Tmobile account to do that
I know GUN. Wasn't this covered already. We actaully had a successful post this morning about it.
I remember back in October we didn't need root.

Let me know if it works for you.

I used a windows program that was uped here when the vibrant came out you had to be running 2.1. You just opened the program plugged in your phone and it would find the unlock code then you just had to insert a different sim card an type in the unlock code and your good to go well it worked for me. If you odin back to 2.1 and find the unlocking program on here im sure it will still work.

Galaxy S Unlock by Helroz has worked for both of my Vibrants. Make sure to backup everything first.
ok so ihave unlocked at least 10 phones with this app thats called Galaxy_S Unlock by a developer called HELROZ
1.make sure your rooted before you try this usually superoneclick works fine
2.make sure you tell the program to install busybox with in the process it will ask you if you want to.
3.Once you do that then reboot the phone
4.download the app from the market it usually pops up when you search galaxy s unlock
5. open the app and follow the step beginning from 1-3
and BAM your unlocked
In personal experience this has worked for me every time
When you unlock with the program instead of the actual code, does Odin overwrite the nv_stats file, causing it to be locked again?

Bootloader unlocking

Hey, loads of you have unlocked bootloaders and I'm wondering if i should unlock mine. I'm a heavy xperia arc user but I am not a developer or anything. Does doomlords kernal make your phone FAST? Do you recommend me unlocking?

I'd say do it.
Can root every ROM and DooMKernel is great (overclock and other mods)
And most ROMs need a custom kernel --> unlocked bootloader needed

I have the nexus 7 toolkit. Instaled the drivers and everithing. When i connect the tablet in fastboot mode the pc does not see it. When i tipe adb devices it shows nothing. The tablet connects in mtp mode while its in lock screen but when i start bootloader or recovery mode windows says usb device not recognised.
Adb is for when the tablet is booted and debugging is on.
Try fastboot devices. If its not there check device manager again

[Q] How to save files from soft bricked Nexus 4

Hi all; I have a soft bricked Nexus 4. I need a way to save it without wiping the files. I have an audio file I need to rescue from the phone. All online solutions I have found so far assume that I can access the phone features/settings (I can't) or that I can remove the battery (I can't - it's a Nexus 4). The phone is stuck in recovery mode.
I'd be hugely appreciative if anyone can tell me how to either:
A) retrieve my audio file from the phone
or
B) unbrick the phone without losing data
Do you have a custom recovery or are you stock? Also, is your bootloader unlocked?
What did you do to get in the condition the phone is on now?

Thanks, jd1639. I *think* the only thing that happened was that the battery went dead. The battery is not dead now.
Recovery Mode screen says fastboot mode and it says locked.
I guess I am stock? I don't do anything fancy to my phone. I'm too much of a noob.
