Bootloader unlocking - Xperia Arc General

Hey, loads of you have unlocked bootloaders and I'm wondering if i should unlock mine. I'm a heavy xperia arc user but I am not a developer or anything. Does doomlords kernal make your phone FAST? Do you recommend me unlocking?
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App

I'd say do it.
Can root every ROM and DooMKernel is great (overclock and other mods)
And most ROMs need a custom kernel --> unlocked bootloader needed

Thanks, well i was thinking of sending my phone in for a housing replacement in a couple of weeks, if my bootloader is unlocked, SE might trick me into saying the bootloader caused my phone to overheat meaning the crack in the housing came, lol.

Nah, they already repaired unlocked phones with CM7 installed

Is there a simpler way to unlocking it than using SonyEricssons website?

Imo, it's quite easy.
And the only other way to unlock the BL is the testpoint method.

What happened to my arc S?

Hello fellow xda forumers, i have a problem with my arc s. it starts like this, a few hours ago i unlocked my bootloader. Then after i unlocked it, i tried to flash a kernel to my arc using fastboot but i assumed it was failed since it took forever with *waiting for device* message . The problem is, after i did all those things, now i realised that my phone can't connect/install MTP driver when i plug in via usb and worst is, my home button is not functioning ! Could someone please help me fix this problem? i just got my arc S a few days ago, i'm so loss now
Reflash it with FlashTool to fix it.

Have you checked USB debugging?
For drivers, try these.
And post in the correct section.

You can flash the kernel inside the package using fastboot and the ROM using CWM.

If you want to install CM7, which you have downloaded, you have to push kernel in your device by using the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img" inside fastboot folder.
Then boot into CWM and install *.zip file from sdcard.

Before flashing ROMs etc better get it working before and flash stock fw with FlashTool.
Also, there's a chance to kill the device when flashing custom stuff, so better do some research before starting without (much) knowledge.

edit : i found this tutorial for flashing, it should works right ? http://www.wotanserver.com/en/page/tutorial-debranding-flash-sony-ericsson
i used wotan so reflash my phone aswell after i messed it up.
as long as u can connect in flashmode and have the drivers it should work.

Can't install any custom ROM

For some reason, every time I try to install a custom ROM in CWM (Gingerbread, not ICS), my phone doesn't get past the bootloader after installing it with CWM. I installed some themes through CWM, so it works for them.I've tried Arconium 7.3 and GingerChaosFZ, none of them work. I have an Arc S and my phone's bootloader is locked and I'm on baseband 56, if that matters.
Almost all custom roms requires the phone's bootloader to be unlocked and requires a specific kernel ( which again requires bootloader unlocked for it to be flashed ) .
Better read the related information before trying out ( and later repenting )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650
Refer the above thread for modding ur arc...

Changing your ROM to a different variant won't affect bootloaders. Try the service menu afterward and you'll get the exact same result.

Can't you do the Sony unlock?
Apart from messing my ROM up (Which I've resolved by going to yours) it's pretty much straight forward.
