Did anyone see dhacker29's post about CM10 on Razr M? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just read this post on twitter from dhacker29.
And we have Jellybean CM10 on the Droid Razr M
SurfaceFlinger(305): OpenGL informations:
SurfaceFlinger(305): vendor : Qualcomm
SurfaceFlinger(305): renderer : Adreno (TM) 225
SurfaceFlinger(305): version : OpenGL ES-CM 1.1
I wonder if thats for dev phones only right now??? Can't wait to load up some ROMs

Of course that's for dev only. At the moment, only dev models can flash anything. We would need safe strap/boot strap in order to flash.

From what I have been reading I think they are pretty close with Safestrap3 for the M

That would be almost impossible. One does not simply crack a Motorola boot loader. Either we get a leak, or they let us unlock it on the website. We are only gunna get safe strap is my prediction.

I'd be more than happy with safestrap at this point. I mean this phone was 99% unrootable until Dan started getting back in the game. So M user's should take anything they can get at this point.
Plus if we were able to get plenty of workarounds for the original Razr's then I don't see why dhacker, p3, hash, etc, won't be able to do it for the M.
Got a white one on the way w00t w00t.

Keeping my S3, but the M will be the gf's phone. Wonder if she'll let me use it to try and port Paranoid Android over.
Aside from the original Galaxy Note, I've never wanted a phone more than the M, due to it's size, incidentally the same reason I wanted the Note originally lol.
Just can't give up my S3. But as you can see from my signature, I love Moto phones so maybe I'll end up with the Razr M HD or something lol.

Definitely a great phone. I'd recommend it. The RAZR HD is better, but you gotta like a bigger phone. I like the 4.3" screen. Believe it or not, this is the smallest android phone I've ever owned. Smaller then my Samsung fascinate!

Played with the M extensively, (my Lieutenant has one), and I'm the go to guy for all rooting and romming needs at work. His has some considerable lag and I can't help but chalk it up to the 1gb of RAM vs the 2gb on the S3. Touchwiz runs smoother and pushing a much larger screen and about 400 more megabytes worth of crap built into Sammy's rom.
W/ that said Moto has my heart and up until my S3 the Razr was the best phone I had owned. Hell I got my parents two Maxx's to get them started on their venture into smartphones. They love them.
Will be interested to do radio strength comparisons. My S3 was pulling better reception than my LT's M, side by side and where mine would still be in 4G, his was in 3G. This seems hit or miss w/ the M's, kind of like the VZW Gnex's. My Gnex was always rock solid on radios but my g/f's Gnex was horrendous. Well we went through 4 Gnex's til we got one that wouldn't drop a signal, sitting right next to mine w full 4G. (Have a tower literally 100ft from my apartment.)
Which brings me to my next point. This whole radio thing w/ the M has baffled me b/c that and build quality are what has always won me, along with others over when it comes to Moto. Locked BL's suck but radio strength and quality mean the world to me. I'm a bit superstitious and my g/f has the most awful luck w/ phones, (i.e....went through 4 Gnex's, her first 4S wouldn't activate on VZW and it was brand new, had to get a replacement, her RAZR charging port got jacked up and she's gentle with her phones, had to get a replacement, we bought her a used RAZR a month ago to leave the 4S behind, and this one wouldn't pull 4G at all....flashed every radio I could....I'm tellin ya, this girl has no luck w/ phones and I pray we actually get a good M, else I think I'm gonna tell her ass to just stick with dumbphones.

noob alert!: safestrap is a safe (a-durrrr) way to flash ROMs, right?
whats the development process like for safestrap? what kind of things is one bypassing by utilizing a tool like that?
just wondering! by the time I got to the Xoom all the devving was full blast so I missed out on the early discussions

I'm pretty sure safestrap is like a recovery for locked boot loader devices. Since we are unable to change the boot img, we must work with that kernel and boot IMG. With safe strap, you have rom "slots" where you can install a system on a SD card (I think, haven't used it). If anyone has a better explanation/more details, help would be nice

It's basically like creating an extra partition. It bypasses the original startup by booting into the actual Safestrap boot screen. From there you have the option to go straight to recovery or do nothing and let the phone load into whatever partition you have active (safe side or non safe side).
Usually safe side is where you custom rom is and what you boot up to. Non safe side is your factory image. W/ bootstrap it would basically overwrite your factory image while piggybacking onto the factory bootloader. Safestrap was invented to prevent bricking in the event that fastboot files weren't available or a serious brick occurs.
Once you get really good, you can figure out ways to flash a custom rom on your non safe side (factory image side) and then another custom rom on your safe side. Virtually having dual boot on two custom roms lol.

I can't wait for some custom business on my M. I have been surprised with how much I love this device. My buddy has an S3 and I wouldn't trade for nothing. I just miss my ability to flash roms and tweak like my og razr.

I had an S3 for 2 months before trading for an M. Your findings are pretty much similar to mine. Radio seems a bit weaker than my S3 was. Also my S3 rarely lagged, but I have ran into lag issues with the M, not often but it's there and I also feel it's from the 1GB ram as I've underclocked my S3 before and it didn't lag like the M can sometimes.

Why do people even have the verizon version of the play? In my opinion I doubt that root will ever happen nevermind unlocking the bootloader for those phones, the amount of time and effort it would take would be crazy. I would personally get a different one

because all in all it is a really nice phone, on par with the other 1GHz phones out there on the Verizon network just sacrificed 2-8GB of internal storage for a slide out controller.
Motorola locked out their bootloader but you still see people attempting to get past them, what makes this phone any different? OMG it has a GAMEPAD.
Either someone will figure it out or not, no use *****ing about what people picked, it was their decision. I am surprised my old piece of crap Eris had the following it did. Someone will figure it out. As this was mentioned before, for there being 1 CDMA model to the what 8 GSM versions it will just take a little longer then normal.
Or the GSM side will just spit in the CDMA side of it's face and attempt to forget about it, Either way it is still an amazing phone.

Cheap Upgrade from Droid X

What would be a good cheap upgrade (out of pocket) from Droid X? My wife doesnt have an upgrade until April '13 and her Droid X is so sluggish. It is so slow I cant see how she uses it. Was thinking of buying her a used Iphone 4 or 4s in the interim and then getting her a 4g device in April.

LOL, yes. Wish I had found another way than what i did. I flashed over baseband and radio. No data, could not activate. Bricked the phone, then reflashed 13 different ways but Sunday and finally I have her phone all set up with Liquid Smooth 3.0 and am just trying to get 3G back up and running. It is like a new phone. Hopefully this will last her until her April 2013 VZW upgrade......

Moving Forward

Hey everyone. I really don't know how to say this, nor do I think anyone will even care because I'm practically a ghost to the forums, but I just wanted to make a thread and thank everyone here from the past and present for the good year and a half-or so that I've been here on the E4G forums. Last night while randomly browsing some Sprint forums for the Galaxy Nexus (I just love to peek at other phones to see what's going on with them), I came across a post saying you can text the word 'upgrade' to the number 1311 to find out if your eligible for an upgrade or not. While this may be common knowledge to the masses, I did not know this and texted the number. Low and behold, I was indeed eligible for an upgrade! With that being said, money was definitely an issue here because I am flat broke, so my upgrade options were limited. From Sprint's website I could choose from a free SGS3, an LG Optimus G, or a Sprint Vital. And maybe something else I'm forgetting. I planned on going with the S3 because it had the most developer support from anything else listed. However, I went to a Sprint store, and it was only free for a new line. That, and also the only free phones Sprint offered me from the store was a Sprint Vital, or a iPhone 4S.
So I went to Best Buy. They offered me a few more options, a couple being the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G (Which has NO support whatsoever), the Vital once again, and the Optimus G. So... I went with the Optimus G. I've been reading that is pretty much a branded/skinned Nexus 4.
Its definitely...... Nice. Fast as all **** most definitely, fluid, and sexy. The development for the LGOG is kinda weak at best, but it's getting there. There's CM10.1 builds for it, as well as some AOKP builds, so there's that. I definitely need to get a screen protector and case for it though.
Alright, this is way longer than I wanted it to be, so I'm gonna end it here. Thanks for all the roms and memories guys. I'll still be around because the LGOG Dev scene is kinda whack at the moment, and I plan on holding on to my Epic for quite a while. So...... Yeah, lol.
Stay gold, everyone.

Man... I wish I could've gotten a GNex or something >_<
Rooting this thing has been nothing but a complete pain in ass. While there is a sort of a one click root kinda thing, which did work, it was finnicky as hell. And after that, throwing on a custom rom is even worse. It really seems like a 50/50 chance the ROM will boot, not because of user error, but because the phone really just seems unstable and not rom-friendly like our good old Epics are. I dunno, maybe because this phone is still relatively new or something, but this is definitely the biggest headache I've come across with Android at all. :banghead:
The stock rom is retardedly fast and fluid, yes, but this thing needs an AOSP rom on it.

I think I remember reading somewhere that there's some sort of hardware mod to basically make it a nexus 4. Like use Nexus 4 radios, Roms, etc. Only I'm not sure if such a mod would exist.
Never mind, only gsm versions can do it, I totally forgot about that part.

Yeah I seen that mod in the AT&T OG forums, and it looked pretty damn sweet. I finally got my OG running a CM10.1 build, so I practically have a Nexus 4 at this point
The only thing I've noticed about the AOSP roms is an extremely low signal reading, no matter where I am. Us always either at two bars or one, haven't seen 3 or above not once. But as long as it doesn't actually affect data speeds or calls I guess, lol.

Any particular reason(s) I shouldn't get the RAZR M?

I like how it looks, I like how it's made to be durable (the water resistance is cool), but I don't like the locked boot loader (I know I *can* hack it open rather easily...) Or the potential for issues with that down the road.
If you could warn me against thus phone, all things considered, would you?
Thanks!

The only issues:
Size (can be a plus, it was for me)
Screen shake issues (not a huge deal, google it to see what I am talking about)
Non-removable battery (again, I get through a day easily)
Screen resolution
New Moto phones should be out soon
Newer firmware locks out our bootloader unlocker (so make sure if you want to use custom roms to get a phone on 4.1.2 or lower)
That's about all I can think of.
basically, if you want a phone that is compact, powerful, gets you through the day, and always up to date (including custom ROMs), then this is the device for you. the lone draw back is for folks that get this phone after the 5/2013 update is that motorola locked the bootloader (not sure if folks can go back to safestrap, and I'm not sure if developers will make ROMs compatible with SS again).
otherwise, you can't go wrong.
haha that's kind of a big deal if I don't know which firmware the particular phone I'm buying is on...
The update hit a week or so ago, so the longer you wait the worse the chances get. Best if you can get in store and ask to see the version before purchase.

This is also very true. Heck, I run stock and just freeze the bloat apps with App Quarantine. Fast and great battery life on stock.
I love this phone I've had it for two weeks or so (got it from a friend). I had the og RAZR before and I've been flashing ROMs left and right. On stock I've averaged about 20+ hours battery and I work at Walmart and every one I've sold hasn't had the update. So maybe you'll get lucky if you get it somewhere 3rd party and they have a few that have been sitting

Verizon just revealed the Droid Mini the successor to the Razr M. It has 4.3" 720p vs qHD on the M and 2GB of RAM vs 1GB on the M. The battery remains 2000mAH but the microSD slot has been removed. The new device is still physically the same size.
Thanks for the responses... SD is muy importanté..
I'd be getting this from eBay, so I would reason it would not have the update.
Edit: *new* from eBay, as opposed to used where the seller would want to update "for my convenience".

Possible AT&T N3 Safestrap?

I thought that this video would give some hope to the AT&T N3 community. Looks like the Verizon N3 is going to get (or got) a program called Safestrap which is allowing them to install custom ROMs and other things on their version of the N3. This should be made applicable to the AT&T version soon. It may not be as flexible as a unlocked bootloader but does give some hope of being able to have the phone the way you like it.

Oh man let's hope for the best. This is all kind of new to me having these issues. Even my One X was a pain in the ass, but not THIS bad with unlocking.
Will safe strap include being able to flash a kernel? That's honestly the #1 reason for an unlocked bootloader for me. I love playing around with cpu and gpu parameters trying to achieve best battery to performance. Plus faux123 has his kernel and coming from it with a nexus 4 I wish I had it on this device.
Safe strap will not allow kernel flashing. Only ROMs. It high-jacks boot up and redirects the device to boot from a secondary partition you create on the internal memory. You will lose space on internal memory to use safestrap. Although the Verizon folks (me included) have been able to overwrite the factory partition to avoid space lose. If you want to flash kernels you need to drop the 700 dollars on development edition of the phone. I can't believe how dead the development thread is for this device I was just looking for some options for a friend of mine who just got his AT&T N3.
I got more jelly beans than jelly belly, on my S3, S4, and both my Notes
Guess I should have stuck with nexus. Oh well ill trade the ability to flash kernels and roms for a removable battery and an sd card and large screen.
I'm pretty sure the DEVS within these forums will eventually find a way to crack the system. It's just a matter of time and patience.

I don't think that's ever going to happen. This is sad but it looks like the Note 3 (At&t Version) will never have an unlocked bootloader. There is no way around it.

Got to have patience man. It's only been 2 months since the phone launched. I understand it is taking a long time...but it will get done.

I don't think that's ever going to happen. This is sad but it looks like the Note 3 (At&t Version) will never have an unlocked bootloader. There is no way around it.
I will never buy another At&t phone again in my life. I will never buy a Samsung device again in my life.
I'm done with them both. I hope their happy. This is what they want.

Will be a nice xmas gift to have an unlocked bootloader. 3 month mark should be a good gauge as to whether it will ever happen

They're still trying to unlock the dx. I had one. I did get used to just flashing roms, it's not that bad.
