Hello,
I recently sold my beloved Evo 4G.
My phone was rooted and was running CM7.1.
The person that bought the phone from me wants to return the phone because he says that Sprint can't activate it.
Would the phone need to be reflashed back to a stock sense rom for Sprint to activate it?
Would it need to be unrooted too?
Also, I really hope the following won't be an issue, but sometime during my flashing craze last year, I think I lost my Wimax RSA keys.
Thank you all for your help.
From what I learned when I did the same with my EVO shift it just needs to be on a stock Rom (rooted or not) but it can be rooted and s-off as long on stock.

Doesn't have to necessarily be a 'stock' ROM. So long as it's a Sense ROM that you can update your profile and PRL, you're fine.

Just needs to be in a sense 1.0 rom with a working epst.apk and prl/profile update to be activated. The epst.apk is what allows the dialer codes to function to access the diag mode to clear the nvram and reset it to the new account. I think most all of the sense 1.0 roms have epst.apk if its not in the rom it should say in the changelog/what's working section of the rom thread. Hope I explained that clear enough

Thanks for the replys.
And as far as you know, Wimax RSA keys' presence/absense has not effect on the ability to activate?

No they won't affect activation, but 4g won't ever connect. The RSA keys are the encryption key to handshake with the wimax network.

Doesn't have to be a Sense 1.0 ROM as long as it's Sprint-based and has working EPST. I've activated on MikG (Sense 2.1) a few times.

I just said sense 1.0 since most are based off of evo roms and all(that I know of) have epst.apk instead of trying to have him hunt one down, its been a while since I've flashed anything but cm7 on my evo, and I'm too lazy to go read which roms have it included now, lol. Good to know tho. I remember back when i swapped my evo to another line on my plan there were some sprint based roms that didn't have the modded Epst.apk that worked in the evo. I ended up putting the rep on hold while I flashed thru 3 different roms so i could activate it. The 1.0 roms just made it easier to find one with working epst  sadly it won't be too long before my evo finds itself living in a drawer as I'm upgrading again soon and my et4g will be replacing the evo on my work line

Well the best thing out there so far is the latest Cyanogenmod 6.1 RC3. It's stock Android based with tons of enhancements and very stable. Everything works, wifi, bluetooth, etc.

What is the most current radio for the slide? I just put CM6.1 RC2 on my GF's slide, but nothing else additional (kernel, radio, etc.). What else do i need to get it as up-to-date as whatever OTAs are out?
(I'm coming from my DX rom experience so i don't know as much about HTC devices as I do the DX...)

I have one question for the people using cm6, once your rooted and have flash cyanogen are you still able to use flash lite to see videos on your web browser???

No, i guess only in youtube.
OK so today I saw this videos Which shows on the desire HD Android 2.3.2. And sense 2.1 so when are we going to get that rom ported to the evo?

Any chance of a link to the video??

the only real problems with these is the 4g. so far, all of these are ports from other phones (like Warm-Z), and missing this feature because of lack of (access to) drivers, and unlikely to get it anytime soon. (correct me if I'm wrong?) as I actually get good 4g coverage, that's what keeps me from using these roms as DDs.
I guess the exception is the CM7 ROMs, but then there are GPS issues... and no Sense, obviously.
wrong. the 4g from cm can be implemented into other roms, and has been already in several. Also gps issues are fixed by resetting the gps in a sense rom.
Its just up to the devs to add it. There are more important things to get working before 4g though

I assume you are referring to some sense2 + GB ROM? the OP was asking specifically about that, and the only one I know of is the warmZ, that (as far as I know) has no 4g yet...? (admitidly I am not the flashaholic I once was, don't keep up on the nightlies like I used to)
also, IMHO, flashing to a rom to have toflash back is not a "fix", but a "workaround". (not flaming, our starting arguments, just an opinion. )

Sense 2.1 and gingerbread. Wip though and not flashable. Wimax has been implemented in non gingerbread rom as well.
Though i think they probably want to get camera and other such things working before 4g
True, you could call it that. Doesn't bother me though.

AH! Had not read through that thread at all. Very interesting! Thanks for pointing this one out to me.
And yea, i would assume that 4G will be the last thing to be in the "must fix" list, esp. over cam/wifi/ect.
thanks for the correction, sort of.

yeah im wondering myself why it's taking soo damn long to get a ginger/sense port? cm7 just doesn't do it for me.
I recall seeing a thread around here a ways back that had instructions for how to improve WiMax signal strength. Think it had something to do with changing the dBm...
But after digging for a while, I can't find the thread that had the instructions.
Does it still exist? If not, does anyone know what I need to do?
Thanks!
wimax boost
I saw it some where as well and can no longer find it either! Sure would love to know how to do it as well now that I am more familiar with the whole SU/Root/Roms of the shift 4G!
Here you go.Worked great on my Epic 4g and the EVO Shift.

Nice, thanks
Confirmed that changing these settings improves chances of connecting to a 4G access point. It does not increase the speed much, but if you don't like eating away the 3G 5000mb transferlimit, it is not a bad idea.
Are any of you on CM7?? I can't get the ##data# to work

CM7 is AOSP, Stock/Mik Shift is Sense.
Soo no, you'd have to nandroid your CM7 and flash a stock, do the changes, nandroid back.

What does this do for us? Will it help get wimax working better?
Need to find a way to be able to update PRL and Profile as well as other codes on the dialer to CM7 rom. So, CM7 users won't have to switch to sense rom to get new prl.

CM already has Google's WiMax code in the latest nightlys. Seems a heck of a lot more stable.
I had noticed that. I'm HOPING that it means we may finally have working #data codes so we don't have to switch to a sense rom to update prl etc. From what JBQ said, this is the first CDMA device officially supported by AOSP.
I currently use stock rooted MT4G, but have started to enjoy the Virtuous Unity Glacier ROM that gives us Sensation's abilities. I have noticed that normally MT4G finds 5ghz wifi w/ no prob, but w/ Virtuous Unity it's gone. I want to find out if someone has a way to restore the support in not only the GB builds, but now also the ICS builds that share the same problem. Before anyone brings up wiki on this issue of whether MT4G supports 5Ghz and starts a flame war, I have both bands running in my house and have even done wifi calling through the 5Ghz band, so don't bother quoting specs. Need further proof: URL pdf.eccn.com/pdfs/Datasheets/Broadcom/BCM4329.pdf I believe the issue has something to do with how the kernel is compiled with the bcm4329.ko module. There may be a switch or parameter not being set in the module's build files (written in c) before a build is initiated. The resulting .ko file seems different depending on which phone it's being used on. Obviously this is a senior developer/kernel jockey question and I lack the know how to do this myself, but it's an important issue considering every developer wants to put out as bug-free a build as possible.
Any ideas?
Spec:
MT4G unlocked, and rooted. 4ext Recovery
Factory MT4G w/ GB and Virtuous Unity Glacier 1.27

Hey I have asked the same question before but got no answer, I know nothing about what you wrote but I would love to have it working again.... I also have a dual band router that sends out both 2.4 gHz and 5.o gHz freq. at the same time and it is great for media. I would love to see this fixed.

Froyo never supported this for MyTouch 4G.
The official GB kernel came with 5Ghz support. Oddly, no developer never had support in their custom kernels. If you MUST have it, you could try flashing the stock kernel (extract it from the official ROM) or learn C and have at. This has been asked about many times and no one with the skills seems to want to add it.
If someone knows otherwise please correct me.

I got the mt4g on the first day it was sold and 5 ghz wireless n did work on the froyo version and all of the stock roms (until the Android 2.3.4 Software build number 2.32.531.1 - when they partially broke it - it worked but not consistently .. see support.t-mobile.com/message/75827 ).
My take is that the kernels are using a generic driver that works for all of the similar devices that did not have the 5 ghz N. There are very few phones that have 5 ghz wireless N - so I assume that the linux kernel either isn't from the HTC mt4g source or the wifi driver for some reason has been changed out, but a dev would need to weigh in on that.
I think the bindroid runmed 2.5 supports 5. (Don't quote me) and IMO its better maintained then virtuous, so I would recommend checking it out. I think youll see a massive improvement all around.

So I got my MT4G up and running after my eMMC chip went out so now I have to S=OFF and install a custom rom and the one you suggested morgan5814 is going to be the first one I try out, if I like it then good but if not then going to try ICS roms because before my MT4G broke there was no ICS around.
Sounds like a plan. I've been working on a custom miui for about a week and a half now. Not ready to release. First rom release half assed would be for shame lol
