What does this do for us? Will it help get wimax working better?
Need to find a way to be able to update PRL and Profile as well as other codes on the dialer to CM7 rom. So, CM7 users won't have to switch to sense rom to get new prl.

CM already has Google's WiMax code in the latest nightlys. Seems a heck of a lot more stable.
I had noticed that. I'm HOPING that it means we may finally have working #data codes so we don't have to switch to a sense rom to update prl etc. From what JBQ said, this is the first CDMA device officially supported by AOSP.

so it seems some people are getting these phones early now if im correct this phone runs android 2.1 with sense. maybe someone who gets one of these can get us a dump for the devs.
I've had the whole ruu for a few weeks and ported it to work. It's basically the same as the 2 2.1 roms everyone is building from now. Other then fm radio that we already know won't work on our devices. The legend builds are also older builds then the Eris build I ported. The heroc build fresh released with the .29 kernel is actually newer then the Eris build by one day. And the most current build of 2.1 I've found. The only reasons I haven't released the legend build. Is for one we have newer builds and two it has issues with our speaker and Mic. The build is exactly the same as flipz heroc build. So were not gonna gain much from building off of if. It's also a gsm build that will need a lot of fixing to be as functional as the current newer builds. In my opinion its not worth the time to port something older then the current builds.

let me ask you this, why put all the effort into this 2.1 port when the official update will be coming soon and then you will have to make another rom but fully functional already.
no offense, just seems like it's kinda pointless when we have the update coming this month.

if i wanted aosp i would of gotten anything besides a hero but the interface seemed so much nicer with sense it really was the whole decision for me with sense on this phone.
to me the biggest reason for continuing all these 2.1 roms. when the official comes out whenever its suppose to to me is that once the official actually does come out its alot easier to work with since the dev's are familiar with it

well just because we have a sprint 2.1 build doesnt mean we will get what all other buildsa have. we may not get friendstream and if thats the case then we will need new frameworks to support it. once sprint releases 2.1 doesnt make it the end of the road for porting other builds. one build may have some new function built into it. take espresso for example... its ui was totally different then any other. then we move on to other builds. some dont include certain htc apps. its almost like htc has a catalog with a gang load of options. the carrier or buyer may not wanna pay for a colorful ui they may only want it gray scale like eris is. or they may want all the colored icons like flipz's build and legend. every build is different. beleive this as soon as sprint gives us a 2.1 build. it will be extreamly simple to make an update.zip of it. no porting required at all. at this point i only want sprint to release because then that means we will get kernel source for .29. at that point if we already havent ported it ourselves(like last time) we can move on to bigger better things. but... as ive already seen were gonna need source for some of these new builds. our device is old and needs more space. so were gonna need to compile modules to squash the system down to a usable size and use other modules like ramswap and such to make up for or lack of hardware. were being outdated fast. android is finally developing into something to kick the other os's asses.
ps i do stuff to help everyone. whether i use their builds or not.
I am wondering about something concerning the new trackpad replacing the trackball in these new devices. How is this haedware switch going to affect recovery (if at all)? I mean will just "tapping" the trackpad work just as pushing the track button. Just something to think about.

well when u boot into recovery. it loads ur kernel and all of its drivers. im sure that it can be made aware of a trckpad if its not already.
I love the build of the device but after the hero I don't think ill settle for a inferior processor again especially after reading the reviews.
some people prefer aosp to sense. when i first bought the phone i liked sense but honestly after a few months i found that sense isnt worth the space its code takes up.
@toast
does the legend Rom have FriendStream and NewsReader?
I have been trying to get these to run under fresh 2.0 but it just will not work

and 1.5 didnt have support for cdma. but sprint hacked it in
Yeah, I saw an interview that mentioned native 4G support in Android coming with Froyo. That is probably what the dev guide says. It's not some secret info about release of Froyo on Evo.. If it was Sprint wouldn't have gone to so much trouble in creating custom 4G code to bridge the gap and teach devs how to work with it.

but it didnt run perfectly. that why they released 1.56.
It will prolly be an ota update 1h2012.
The bottom line of the comment code says "Until Type_WIMAX is supported you will need to hardcode the value 6."
If anything, what this means is that the EVO developer's guide is written for 2.1, not FroYo.
Now why would Sprint invest all the time and resources to teach developers how to develop 4G code on 2.1 if they're planning to release the phone with something else?
I Still think FroYo will be released on It. It'll add on to its exclusivity.

1.56 is the Software Version that was the update to software 1.29. The Firmware Version, however, was still 1.5. 1.56 basically fixed issues that slipped by Sprint/HTC. The CDMA phone functionality itself worked fine though.
This could explain why the EVO 4G wasn't running final software. I thought it was a little strange when HTC has the Desire and the Legend running android 2.1 and the new Sense UI with no issue.
OK so today I saw this videos Which shows on the desire HD Android 2.3.2. And sense 2.1 so when are we going to get that rom ported to the evo?

the only real problems with these is the 4g. so far, all of these are ports from other phones (like Warm-Z), and missing this feature because of lack of (access to) drivers, and unlikely to get it anytime soon. (correct me if I'm wrong?) as I actually get good 4g coverage, that's what keeps me from using these roms as DDs.
I guess the exception is the CM7 ROMs, but then there are GPS issues... and no Sense, obviously.
wrong. the 4g from cm can be implemented into other roms, and has been already in several. Also gps issues are fixed by resetting the gps in a sense rom.
Its just up to the devs to add it. There are more important things to get working before 4g though

I assume you are referring to some sense2 + GB ROM? the OP was asking specifically about that, and the only one I know of is the warmZ, that (as far as I know) has no 4g yet...? (admitidly I am not the flashaholic I once was, don't keep up on the nightlies like I used to)
also, IMHO, flashing to a rom to have toflash back is not a "fix", but a "workaround". (not flaming, our starting arguments, just an opinion. )

Sense 2.1 and gingerbread. Wip though and not flashable. Wimax has been implemented in non gingerbread rom as well.
Though i think they probably want to get camera and other such things working before 4g
True, you could call it that. Doesn't bother me though.

AH! Had not read through that thread at all. Very interesting! Thanks for pointing this one out to me.
And yea, i would assume that 4G will be the last thing to be in the "must fix" list, esp. over cam/wifi/ect.
thanks for the correction, sort of.

yeah im wondering myself why it's taking soo damn long to get a ginger/sense port? cm7 just doesn't do it for me.
I recall seeing a thread around here a ways back that had instructions for how to improve WiMax signal strength. Think it had something to do with changing the dBm...
But after digging for a while, I can't find the thread that had the instructions.
Does it still exist? If not, does anyone know what I need to do?
Thanks!
wimax boost
I saw it some where as well and can no longer find it either! Sure would love to know how to do it as well now that I am more familiar with the whole SU/Root/Roms of the shift 4G!
Here you go.Worked great on my Epic 4g and the EVO Shift.

Nice, thanks
Confirmed that changing these settings improves chances of connecting to a 4G access point. It does not increase the speed much, but if you don't like eating away the 3G 5000mb transferlimit, it is not a bad idea.

CM7 is AOSP, Stock/Mik Shift is Sense.
Soo no, you'd have to nandroid your CM7 and flash a stock, do the changes, nandroid back.

Anyone know if the Telephone apk from cm7.2 will work on 7.1 based roms, I'd like to use it on inc deck until 7.2 gets official release.

It depends on if the Phone app has been updated (which it has) and if it these updates tie into anything else that has been updated that inc deck doesn't have. I glanced at it and didn't see any dependencies within the Phone app that would break it, which doesn't mean there are none. I also haven't looked at the inc deck ROM, so I don't even know if the two are compatible (Sense and AOSP are not, among others). You could always do a nandroid and try it out, of course.

What are you trying to add to inc deck regarding phone/dialer functionality? Personally I don't see wait till 7.2 is released officially. I doubt 7.2 stable will be any more stable than rc1. Hardly any more changes going in and I doubt any changes that will break anything or fix anything for us.
If it's the T9 you want then it's not actually Phone.apk in CM7. I think it's actually Dialer.apk you want to pull.

To be honest, I just want the t9 dialer, I've found other dialer apps like exdialer/dialer one don't really play as well as the stock dialer.
