To get lagfix on JW4 easly;
İf you're not rooted , just root it with CF Root link here http://download.chainfire.eu/155/CF-Root/SGS/CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.zip
Then most important part;
http://www.wuala.com/deeeelite/Kernels Ginger/CF-Root-ext4-v1.3-Addon.apk Download and install this apk. This is ext4 tool developed my Chainfire... easy! Just Convert to EXT4 and done!
Also don't forget to change to RFS when you want to flash from odin or a custom rom like ICS/JB or custom GB (Dmore or so... ) from CWM!
Cheers

When you change the ROM, you convert back to rfs with the ext4 app.
Like dark knight said, yyou need to change back to rfs in same application(ext4 addon app) when you want to flash a rom

And I've done it more than once to.

Because only custom kernels supporting EXT4 file system. When you flash another stock rom. stock kernel can't read your EXT4 partitions.
So you don't need to convert EXT4 again but you need to flash a custom kernel with EXT4 again to rom to boot it.
CM using totally different file system. It's using yaffs and ext4. It converts itself whilebyou flashing.

Hi ,
I have installed the apk and converted to ext4 .. and other fixes for speeding up the Phone. I am having a Galaxy S GT I9000 (Indian version )> DDJVB 2.3.6 (valupack 2.3.6) and have just rooted using the kernel > CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS . So basically now that the phone is rooted what fixes would you recommend so that the experience is totally GREAT ! I know there are infinite solutions available on the net , hence would be helpful if you could suggest something that is tried and tested. Thanks.
Regards,
Kaustav.
Sorry i don't understand.
Did you say what fixes i can apply after lagfix?
Seems like you want some recommendation .. Hmm i think one of stock firmwares rooted and using with ext4 system would be enough
The best thing you can do i think;
Try Darky 10.4.2 JW1 rom.It is the best custom gb firmware that i've ever seen!

Hi dreamer,
I have actually done the ext4 conversion, but I dont find much difference in the lag , the phone still seems a bit slow, hence I was asking for other alternatives like a better custom ROM (though I am not to keen and would like to stay with the stock ROM if possible) , or cpu overclocking , or some lag fix available . My phone is on gb 2.3.6 DDJVB Indian version and has been rooted today using Odin and kernel CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS. Sorry for all the questions , I am a newbie here..so please bear

Hi Patchy,
Flashed the semaphore 2.7.4 ... working pretty good..smooth. But found the screen display to be different, there was a greenish tinge to it (specially when screen goes on/off) but this has resolved after Semaphore auto brightness enabling in the semaphore app. What other tweaks would you recommend using this kernel ? What does the busybox exactly do? I mean what would happen if I enable it and also do you recommend overclocking to 1.2Ghz ? Thanks for all the help and PATIENCE

The colors on your screen are different because its "voodoo color" in my opinion looks awesome.
I always OC to 1.2 and set my touch screen sensitivity to the middle option (forget what its called) you'll find that under additional kernal tweaks in semaphore manager. I also modify my build.prop a lot under system/build.prop. using root explorer.
Just leave busy box alone. Don't worry about it. But after flashing semaphore 2.7.4 your going to need to download super user from the market to gain root access again.

Hi,
Yep I have installed super user from the market. About overclocking , whenever I am setting it to 1.2 , after sometime when I check it shows as 1Ghz selected. Also for over clocking , I see it at two places - under Misc. there is overclocking test apart from the normal overclocking change tab .. do i need to change at both the places ?

To fix the greenish color issue while locking screen, alternativly flash a xlcrt off effect for jw4 .Cant give a link right now but you said you are on indian version.Crt off effect must be specific for rom i mean you cant flash jw4 effect to indian rom because roms are different .You will lose status bar if you do that.
You must be on european version which is jw4 .Then you can flash that crt effect...
I'm from Turkey and time is 10am right now.I will at my home about 9pm so... if you really wanna use ;
lagfix
Semaphore kernel with voodoo also without greeny color,
Flash JW4 firmware (XXJW4). Then flash semaphore kernel and apply lagfix... When i'll get home ,i:ll send you a link of crt effect
Also you can search the thread of it if you dont wanna wait
Thread belongs to pantrif13 as long as i remember...

Search the forum for getting the 3button combo working, there are few links.
Once you get the download mode, recovery mode working you can root using z4root (available in the market).

Lag is most likely when writing/reading on the flash memory. Either because of the File System (wich shouldn't be the case if you used OCLF or the likes) and because SGS is using flash memory (SD Card) instead of a Nand on other devices. This is so that you have more space on the device.
So, O/Cing the thing won't change the "lag". Altough, I'm using JK4 and the lag is pretty much lesser than any other (when installing apps or browsing on folders, for example). And I don't use any lagfix.
So i should switch from jp6 to jk4?

Gingerbread for SE Asia, Singapore, is released now. I got the update only today through Kies [with no Kies spoofing].
A few things I noticed in GB:-
i) You can specify a new wallpaper for the lock screen
ii) You have the option to choose between fixed or floating wallpaper for your home screen(s).
iii) Original Galaxy S ringtone missing!!
iv) Changed notification bar.
v) New Accuweather widgets.
vi) No more two levels of clearing memory in Task Manager - just one level now.
May be there are more things under the hood - but these are what I found after a quick look.
Mostly all the Same Changed in all GIngerbread Roms..
Feel a bit laggy for this rom... Anyone feel the same? But battery consumption much more better I think...

This rom is based on the official firmware B540, so android's version is 2.3.5. This is a rooted version of the B512 fw with many tweaks and improvements.
To install this rom you firstly need to upgrade to the official 2.3.5 fw (be careful: update to B512, not to B540). Then you need root permissions and the CWM recovery.
These are the links where you can find the HOW-TOs:
update to stock 2.3.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326525
root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326525
recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343276
DOWNLOAD: COUNTACH ALPHA2
even if the rom is named as alpha (because it is new and iy needs more tests), it is really stable and optimized for every-day usage.
ROM's SPECs
Based on official B540
Root + Superuser (updated to latest version)
Busybox (updated)

Hi,
thank you for this work!
Anyway I have to ask you something about your custom rom.
Does your Rom have the quick settings widget in the status bar?
Did you fix the accelerometer problem? For example if you try to move on the street view (of Google Maps) with the compass mode, you understand that the accelerometer has a problem.
Can you explain what problems you solved from the stock 512 Gingerbread 2.3.5 rom from Huawei?
Thank you in advance,

i have just tried with an app called "accelerometer test" if the accelerometer works but seems that it doesn't.

PS...i made a lot of changes on 3 weeks which i own u8800 pro and i made a really fast and fully functional stock rom 2.2.2,,,,i delete about 14 system apps ,edited build.prop, created init.d folder, some other modds and a little theming,,,,and i like it very much ........maybe i create a thread and a video to saw people how good stock rom can be made......
As you understand it's very difficult for me to change baseband,as i still couldn't found a way to downgrade again if i don't like the new baseband.......and i want to have my fm radio not loose it.....

you need the boot.img from your phone (get it using the pink screen mode) and the stock update.app (the bigger one).
then extract the update.appusing dsixda kitchen, copy the system.img from working folder to original update and cook your rom.

Are you sure sir? Usually going back to stock ROM and kernel solves it. Try again to go to stock, then reflash Chobits; and be sure to follow the instructions carefully. :good:

1st Wipe data then re-install chobits digitalis Rom then reboot it will take much time so wait. Then install merruk kernal or any other kernel on your sgy.after successfully installing new kernel go to recovery mode, then install creed rom......
i hope it will be installed on ur sgy.. Now Wait 2-3 minutes for rebooting............
Is that method work???? Plz let me know,,,,,,,

i'm not sure about your problem but i have successfully flashed chobitdigitalis from repencis and i also succeed in reverting to repencis.
i flashed chobits, while my phone is on repencis.
then i reverted to repencis by restoring my nandroid back up of repencis. i didn't even wiped data, system or cache. just restored my backup.
Flash stock kernel via cwm or odin and reflash the rom. Remember to wipe data and cache partition otherwise you can experience bootloops. You have been facing this problem because chobits digitalis rom has its own custom kernel.

changeing roms halts system from booting
hi
I had this same problem and i resolved it by flashing stock rom via Odin. also, you can try re-installing the previous rom again and then update to new rom by always entering recovery using the 3 key combo..this problem happens when you initiate and update from within android via rom manager or having an app reboot to recovery then installing a rom.
cheers
Alphacode
Do a wipe data and cache
After flashing chobits flash white kernel......;
Atleast this will not brick your phone

I've tried to install Repencis 3.5 and Chobits V2 reloaded. Tried it with bunch of CWM too.... but still no success with custom ROM yet . I have flashed stock ROM with Odin. But upon reboot always get stuck at boot animation (the one with phone model text). I have followed every step according to the ROM pages, and tried recommended CWM to do it. I have no idea where am I going wrong.

what method did you use to flash stock rom with odin (with one package or without one package) if you have previously tried one package and that flash failed after sometime then dont try the other method(one in which you dont check/choose one package option) it wont work just stick to one package technique till you get it right

I havent tried the rom in question but some roms like repencis have their own inbuilt kernel (mostly it's only compatile with its rom) which replaces our stock kernel so when we try to go back to stock rom or any other rom after that then we are often stuck at boot loop coz that rom isnt compatible with your present kernel

Try the search feature offered by xda and you will get answer for all your questions ..
Flashing Rom and kernel won't brick your phone if you follow procedures correctly.
If flashing Rom was going to brick the phones then there wouldnt have a single custom rom in development section..
