Hi I know that i shouldn't post topic like this.
I was an iphone user until recently when i bought galaxy s. Galaxy was delivered with android 2.2 now i want to root it but i can't because it won't load update.zip from recovery menu because it's 3e. I've searched the forum but nothing seems to help.

Search the forum for getting the 3button combo working, there are few links.
Once you get the download mode, recovery mode working you can root using z4root (available in the market).

You'd need to change to a kernel that supports overclocking. Offhand i can think of raspdeep / yaok

Lag is most likely when writing/reading on the flash memory. Either because of the File System (wich shouldn't be the case if you used OCLF or the likes) and because SGS is using flash memory (SD Card) instead of a Nand on other devices. This is so that you have more space on the device.
So, O/Cing the thing won't change the "lag". Altough, I'm using JK4 and the lag is pretty much lesser than any other (when installing apps or browsing on folders, for example). And I don't use any lagfix.
So i should switch from jp6 to jk4?

Hi All, just wondering if anyone knows how to instal oclf on 2.2?
I installed it from market but it says all the options are unavailable.
Any ideas?
you have to root your phone before you can use oclf .. The root method included in oclf via update.zip can't be used on froyo ..So look in the development section for a 2.2 root method.
You have to root your phone first.Search for "xxjpk root" and you will find out how.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
can someone just run me through it?
I gather i do the root method mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
my build number says FROYO.XXJPK and kernel [email protected] 1
Then after that the OCLF from the android market should work?
I bought this phone from a second hand shop with 2.2 already on it so please excuse my ignorance!
Im want to run the lagfix because it gets very tiring having to use the app killer everytime i unlock the phone. it drops down to like 50meg or something and everything goes slow. i have to run the app killer and if im luck i get over 100meg free..
thanks guys

Because on froyo lag fix is almost usless only gets you better Quadrant score and maybe some faster loading in asphalt

OCLF improved the overall speed of my phone and made dolphin hd very quick compared to non lagfixed. JPK only slowed down after installing several pages of apps, so if your not into apps you may be ok.

Actually overclocking can be done from within the performance settings in cyanogen. No kernel needed.
[sent via Cyanogen powered Android]
I found this:
vrami.net/?p=635
Which tells me I need to flash the Arabic and it gives a zipfile, this is for cyanogen. How do I flash the arabic zip file? Do I put the zipfile onto my SD card, then reboot the phone while holding the volume down button and select flash from sdcard, etc etc?
Thanks

To flash the .zip you need to boot into recovery > install .zip from sdcard > let me choose > pick the .zip and flash it.
make sure to do a Nandroid back up first.

Hey guys,
Lately the Stock ROM is annoying me, I'm planning on flashing it to a custom ROM - I don't see gingerbread anywhere so I thought why not !
Also, my tab was rooted until something happened and I had to reset it to factory settings, most of the apps (that need root access) work, but titanium backup claims it fails to achieve root.
So Should I re root my tab before flashing a custom ROM?
and of course the question I asked in the title - what would you'll recommend for a custom rom on a GSM tab (I was thinkin overcome)
Cheers
Jackie

Probably because you mis-pressed the allow button in superuser when first launching titanium.
launch superuser and remove teh titanium entry and next time you load it will ask for su rights again.

I second that. Alterbridge is a first class developer.
And I really miss Rotohammer too.
Thank you very much everyone, I'm thinking I'll get rid of unwanted stuff on my internal SD before I start it - as I found out that conversion to ext4 takes a while - so I'll save time that way also - hopefully if time permits, I'll be flashing my tab soon
Also does anyone know if i could some how get the gingerbread framework to work with the galaxy tab on overcome?

Well its a good idea. Am empty SD card conversion takes 2 minutes. Full one can take upto 20 LOL. Not that I encourage everyone to wipe their cards. I flashed overcome when my tab was fairly new so I had no problems wiping it.
sweet, thanks for the info, also when the ext4 is being converted, is there a progress bar or status? I get paranoid at times when I don't see any progress

Tried a few days ago - everything seemed to be working fine for normal use.
But had my tab reboot several times when downloading a large file. Uninstalled havent had a reboot downloading same file.
May or may not work for you. Probably need to fine tune settings in script but my tab is running smooth regardless.
People should be very skeptical about messing with the memory management in an OS.
Same thing for task killers...they can be helpful to kill an application(to stop it from running in the background), but an auto task killer is generally not a good idea...not on android and not on Linux or windows.
Free memory says nothing, as it's better to use memory then to not use memory performance wise.
Not saying that this can't be the exception to the rule(bad idea to not use the OS's internal memory management), but i'm not convinced.
In android, nothing to worry.
You reflash. You can do anything. Hope you find your sweet spot.

How much RAM do you have running this script? My Tab has less free RAM while running it (used: 230mb before and 310mb after the script).
As already stated in this thread, it's not the purpose of the script to give you the most amount of free memory at all times but to optimise memory use for max performance.

Yeah, I'm running into the same problem.
What Rom are you running, and does it only happen under certain conditions?
I'm running
LiquidSmooth Rom (4.2.2 - It seems super stable, only 2 total problems with it)
CodeFireX .62 or .64, I don't remember
NOS Tweak Package v0.4.5_r1 (was having same problems before this; it actually improved my battery life somehow )
HTC MyTouch 4g/Glacier (Obviously, since I'm posting here, but I figured I'd say so just in case)
Anyways, the problem I'm running into is that I can't get the backlight to stay off after locking the phone.
I lock it, then after ~7seconds the backlight comes back on.
Also, this has happened on each 4.2.x rom I've tried
I read somewhere that messing with the settings/app killers can help, but no change from that. I've also tried setting my backlight to all the way off, as well as full, and the brightness doesn't change while the screen is off.
I can try to make a LogCat of it later, though.

Ehh, I am too really - everyone's gotta start somewhere though!
Anyways, what it means is that you can't just take the nos_whatever.zip file and flash it from the recovery, you have to actually open the app called Terminal Emulator (can be found on the market, needs root) and install it from there.
The instructions on how are all in the readme inside the .zip file, just follow those and you'll be fine.

Also, I noticed that at least in my case my phone seems much less likely to turn the backlight back on if I'm not doing anything in the background such as listening to music. I'm pretty sure that's only been working today though, not sure why...
