Does Motorola Defy Mini have green lens of SOC , If yes, it would be good for xda developers to port out a good rom for original defy of green lens.
It has Gingerbread 2.3.
are you seriously talking about porting to a device barely submitted to the FCC ?
its going to be released in India this week.

Nevergheless the source code could help our devs
exactly... Hope it has a kernel which is designed for green lens... other things our xda experts can manage !!
So, is there any new info? Does it has a green lense?

Thats exactly what I thought, too! And the most weird thing about this phone, is the fact that it'll have Gingerbread running! Its curious because, I'm sure, it'll never have more power than a normal Defy, but the reason why the Defy hasn't got Gingerbread was to not have enough power to run GB. This is kinda odd, isn't it?

Bull****, that's the reason Motorola gave for coming out with Defy+, Defy has by far the power needed to run GB and ICS. Defy and Defy+ have only one hardware difference: red lense. SAME CPU, just an overclock (which you might have noticed, is done with 80% of Defys on xda)

Sry for not being more specific. I wanted to tell, MOTOROLA told; the reason why a normal Defy won't run GB is because its weak performance. It's not me, stating such crappy reasons.
Another question, do you know something about a Defy+ with green lense? I'm confused, because my cousin has got one. He bought it a week ago. I cant check it, because he's not in Germany atm.
If I helped you, please feel free to hit the thx button.

Defy+ does not have green lense (SoC module), it has Red lense and only red ones (Bayer module). That's why the official gingerbread ROM (for Defy+) and custom ROMs based on it don't work with the Defy Green Lens camera.
Defys have Green Lenses (A small amount exist with Red Lenses), the Defy+ has exclusively Red Lense

Can you please define the difference between the two modules (not only the lens color), you called them SoC and Bayer?!
IMHO both are SoC Modules from different manufacturer - if you have other informarion please let me know!
Thanks
btw. this should be the 'red lens - bayer filter array' module http://www.aptina.com/assets/downloadDocument.do?id=178
Update: as of this document 'red lens' its non-SoC module http://www.aptina.com/assets/downloadDocument.do?id=140
but i wouldnt call it Bayer Module... it should be called non-SoC Module...
Here are some papers if someone would like to know more about the red-lens non-SoC Hardware:

Bayer is the module's name in the logcat under CameraCommon. That's the most reliable way to check which module you have. There's plenty of threads on that if you like

Stupid Motorola, so a Defy Mini, with a HVGA screen and a worser CPU, does fit 2.3??
WTF?!
(Not against you Nitrous, just against Motorola )
But I would trust to Motorola, that they release it with 2.2 or even 2.1, with a shame.

I bet it was Shah Rukh Khan who has blackmailed moto to release a cheaper device. He threatened to never use a moto device on his movies again....sry if this sounds stupid, but I cant figure out the reason of this, in my opinion, useless device development/release.
Is it just me, or does my theory sounds a little racist??...

lol no way i m going to buy this even if they provide it for Re 1 also lolzzzzzzzzz
News articles about "Defy Mini" are talking about XT320 model. But Motorola didn't mention "DEFY" word in description of XT320 model on official page:
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/C...ervices/Mobile-Phones/ci.MOTO-XT320-CN-ZH.alt
It have "Cortex A5, 600MHz processor" (probably not from TI)
while MB525 & MB526 uses TI OMAP 3630 which is Cortex A7

The page claims that the phone is "splash proof, dust proof and scratch resistant", so I suppose the "Defy Mini" name is just coined by the media due to speculation?
it looks like defy mini is completely different from regular defys. arm a5 or arm v6 is completely different from cortex a8 we have and its driver, even if it is for soc module will be incompatible with ours. so no help for us green lens defy owners
Ok guys, first a bit of an intro.
I have a desire HD, a HD2 and a ZTE blade. Ok, I am addicted to say the least.
Now I saw this phone and might want to get rid of my ZTE. It seems like I will need to go cycle more and need a bit of phone that can handle a bit of rain etc.
The HD2 is to play with (bought it cheap and fixed it). The Desire HD I use for internet/gps and the ZTE is my workphone.
Now I have been looking around and ... djeez, red or green lens and defy+.
I think buying second hand might be a risk but on the other hand it seems that more custom roms are being developed for the 'regular' Defy.
Any hints or thoughts on what to buy and advantages/disadvantages?
Go for a regular defy red lense. Then over clock to defy+ stats. Enjoy it. I love showing people my awesome "water resistant" phone. Which I always drop in there drink n drink it. <3 free drinks.

Get the regular defy, there is no reason to get another one.
The Defy + is almost a regular defy, but with better cpu(overclock helps)
The Defy + has Gingerbread (custom rom)
The other Defy versions, like defy mini are too slow. As far as i know cpu is at 800mHz wich is the same as the "regular" Defy, but dont know about overclock on this phone.
Regular defy has the greatest developers. Try getting a red lensed one, cause you are able too upgrade to gingerbread kernel (read tutorials) and use a great cm9 version with working camera. Green lensed Defy doesnt have the possibility, too use gb kernel, cause it just doesnt support this camera. Locked Bootloader makes it impossible (at this time) to change the Kernel.
So try to get red lensed regular defy and you are goin too have the best

LOL
I recommend a DEFY+ if you can find it at a same price as a regular DEFY (as I did, somehow).
DEFY+ = red lens (bayer) defy + a bigger battery
Stock Gingerbread on DEFY+ is quite awesome in my opinion, as it's really fast and everything works... Plus, you get 720p. If you go for a regular DEFY you might end up with a SOC (green lens) one with which you wouldn't be able to use Motorola's Gingerbread or Gingerbread kernel ROM's (we here with Moto's have locked bootloaders and are stuck with stock kernels) or have 720p recording.
MIUI is the only ROM that is Froyo only, but if you get a 2.3.5 or 2.3.4 DEFY+ (or some of the first 2.3.6) you will still be able to down flash to Froyo. If you're a MIUI fan...
Other than that, both CM7 and CM9 are available for Gingerbread and are the same as the ones for Froyo (features/speed/stability/everything-wise).
Hope I haven't confused too much Just don't go for the DEFY mini, that one sucks!
Ok thx guys. I love to have different opinions on 1 phone (which are actually 3 different ones)
And yes I plan to earn my money back by dropping it into a glass of water
I saw a second hand one with scratches on the screen for 160€. Now this is another stupid thing, I want one with no scratches which actually doesn't make any sense does it? Why would you want to buy a landrover jeep from somebody that doesn't have a single scratch or dent on it.
Well go for it on Amazon.
I think the Prices are ok. But just have a view

Yeah right. Why should I buy a new toothbrush if I could get the used one for free
Definitely go for defy+, for "+" means something more
Ok guys, after a extreemly difficult mathematical calculation of which one you guys liked the most I just bought myself a refurbished (ow boy) defy+ on ebay.
New adventure coming up it seems.
Thx all and have a fantastic weekend!
I would also definitely advice to go for Moto Defy and not Defy+ with red lens because most ROMS are made for Defy and so have a huge amount of support and updates for the phone. And Defy+ is just a factory overclocked Defy with a better battery!
Once you get the defy, please do post your comments on how you feel about its waterproof properties.
Hello everybody.
I am now using MS2Ginger 3.0 with GreenbreadMod a few weeks and now noticed that my Camera LED is not really bright. You can only notice the light up to 10cm away.
I know from stock rom which I used before that the LED Flash could be really bright.
Could it be that MS2Ginger is based on a chinese rom and I bricked my LED Flash?
At the original thread from walter79 there is not mentioned that it is based on a chinese rom but the phone-information in "settings" says 45.1.25.ME525+.Retail.en.05 for System-Version.
Kernel version is: [email protected]#1
Maybe someone of you has a could help me or confirm my thoughts.
Kind Regards,
mpeg
I had ms2ginger 3.0 with greenbread mod a few weeks back I took a quite a few pics but mine is as good as ever even now
How long have you had your defy?
Do you take pictures a lot using flash?
Thank you NI55AN for your answer.
I using my phone for about a year now but do not taking many pictures. About 400pictures in this time and not many with flash.
But sometimes I use the app LED Light for tourch.
It might seem vague to ask this questions, but I have searched all around and it is very unclear. I understand that the Froyo Kernel is needed for the Green Lens camera, but then there are two CM9 ROMS with Froyo Kernels. Epsylon3's and Quarx.
I've tried sorting out the differences between these and it is still unclear.
I think it would benefits all DEFY Green Lens users to not only get a correct recommendations but also to know the differences, so we can pick one to use.
So if anyone can feedback on this....great.
Paul
I have used Froyo release of Epsylon3 on my green lens defy and found some issues bugging videocamera and 720p playback lag...have also tried Skank CM9 release which are marginally better..
Quarx do not release for Froyo kernel now so I wont recommend...I can surely try the epsy or the skank CM9 anytime
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Quarx's was made quite a while ago. 8th march I think. There has been a lot of big fixes since in the epsylon build, not to mention extra features like; lock screen shortcuts, lock screen weather, themes and per-app data counter, better controlled hwui. Not to mention battery life improvements.
I find a bit more performance and just about same features in skank builds compared to epsylons.
For green lens I think either epsylon or skank builds for now.
Hello,
I've installed CM7, then CM9, but they all have various bugs that vary annoys me. like the camera freeze bug in CM7, and some custom ring tones and sometimes cant answer call with CM9.
Can someone give me a rom with the least bug? I don't care about design, just min bug or non at all.
Thanks.

CM7.1 is a stable ROM, you can try also CM7.2, and now CM10 is under development, each one has a Froyo or GB Kernel,
CM7.1(Froyo Kernel) ->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654 (11/11/11build)
CM7.2(Froyo Kernel) ->
http://www.defy-cm.net/defy-cm7-nightly/ (12/31/12 build is the most stable in my opinion... needs some camera fix only for red lens)
CM10(Froyo kernel) ->
http://acrane.eu/defy/defy-cm10-nightly-quarx/
Any question just ask, good hacking!
For minimum bugs use wiui GB build,
And for best battery use jboogy's liquidginger(old ROM with 2.3.4 gingerbread base)
Wiui gb rom is stable. Using it since a month now.
S3nt fr0m my D3fy/w1u1 GB st4BL3
Thank you for your time.
Whats the differences between the froyo kernel and the GB kernel? and the nightly vs jorden and such..
How to check if I have a red lens? by looking at it yes I have red but I don't sure..
And a small correction, by stable I mean stable(won't crash) and with the least amount of bugs possible, good battery life is pretty important too. design and looks doesn't matter for me.
Thank you all again!

The Froyo Kernel can work with Green and Red lens Defy(SOC or BAYER module, respectively), and the GB Kernel only with Red Lens Defy,, that's because teh GB comes with Defy+ builds and the Defy+ has only Red lens, and can support 720p recording
To know which lens you have, just download the app CatLog, intall it, open the camera, close the camera, open CatLog, and find JordanCameraWrapper(The lib which check the device type you have), if in the log says BAYER you have Red lens, if says SOC you have Green lens(Is the general procedure, sometimes you can have Green lens with BAYER Module, just watch the camera under the light and check the color!),
So which ROM you should install?? First check the lens, if you have green is better to use a froyo kernel based, if you have red lens, depends of the features of the ROM and if you are interested in the 720p recording and panorama.
I go for CM7.2, is really really great, WIUI is very good too, just flash and make your own opinion!
Good luck!
