Hi all. Pretty new here, just this week flashed my KF to gedeROM and loving ICS a LOT. This after several months of stock KF. I'm curious your opinions on JB and how it compares to ICS in feel, not battery, etc, but more the actual user experience.
I apologize if this is a repeat thread, but most of what I've found was focused more on technical aspects of JB.
Thanks!
Jellybean is a ton smoother than ICS. This is because of Google's project butter. There is a lot less lag and the interface is a lot more responsive and quicker. You can tell the difference pretty immediately after switching just by how fast you can change screens on trebuchet. There you have it, my take on jb vs. Ics.

I gave Alien rom a look. It's pretty interesting, but for now I'm reverting to gedeROM till I have time to really sit and dive into JB next week.
Allow me to take this chance to thank ALL the developers here. Each and every one of you rock
In terms of look and functionality (with the exception of Google Now), I believe JB is totally identical to ICS, but what I think makes JB totally worth it is the significant increase in performance
Thanks to all our hard-working developers out there!

It was definitely faster. I just don't have time for awhile to redownload and configure every single app, etc.
Unless there's a way to go from gedeROM to JB without losing all my data?
JB is very good on my kf. It seems that the battery's performance is not as good as with ICS. But it's not a big issue.

Oh nice, that saves apps, etc?
Now that I think about it, I know I've seen others mention it, and since I was always looking for specific install info, I didn't give it thought (target fixation.) Now I can see why it would be so well received. Thanks!
I have ICS on my evo 4g and JB on my KF and I can definitely tell you JB is much more responsive... ICS is smooth too but not as snappy.

I'm curious about the battery life on ICS, i.e., is it better than on JB ?
I personally haven't tried any CM9 (ICS) rom for Kindle, i went straight to the Jellybean, which does not give me more than 1 day of battery, and i find that a bit disappointing. I'm getting about 3 days on ICS on my phone, so I expected at least 2 days worth battery on JB rom.

I charge either every day or every other with ICS....depends on how I'm using it. I try to remember to turn off wi-fi when i am putting it down for a while, and overnight. (I use powerbar widget on main screen to make it simple)
I will take another crack at JB later this week, and maybe can make a comparison then.
[INTRO]
Like i told a lot of time i will record slow-motion video about jelly bean animations on galaxy s3. A lot of people on forum debate with me about "smooth" animation on cm10 (which is also my favorite rom) and i want to show how that look really compared to samsung jelly bean leaks.

As i say, i compare two builds side by side. On left side in video is last (on date: 22.09.2012.) build from samsung xxdli8 against on right side cyanogenmod 10 i9300 build from 20.09.2012. (with hw composer from "stollen" i9305 source)

[Technical details about video]
Video is recoreded with high speed camera, 100 frames per second, resolution 640x480. In video you can see that display updates produce some "flickering" effects. That's because Super AMOLED use 60fps refresh rate and video is recored with much more frames per second.

It's normal that CM10 is not that smooth. We are waiting for the proper kernel sources after all.

Wow, disaster
That's maybe true, but I SEE HOW FAST IS GALAXY NEXUS and Galaxy S3 is much better device, but slower (right now).
Anyway, if you thinking like that "everything is already perfect, but everybody is unhappy" technology will be stopped in progress...

Lolz dude u targetted the only thing in samsung jb rom thats like really smooth vs cm...now dont get me wrong m a sammy fan..runin li8 maself but u should really try comparing opening animation inside settings app for example..sound..display..about phone..damn u dont even need a high tech camera to see how much their transition lag..apart from that nice work mate!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Let's be clear.
ANIMATION is just ANIMATION. All animations are 2 time smoother on XXDLI8, but when you click "Sound" in settings for example, Samsung ROM loading a lot of stuffs and it takes 1-2 seconds, than phone show perfectly smooth ANIMATION. So, animation smoothness is better, but everything else is slow on Samsung Jelly Bean leaks. Like I say, I am big fun of CyanogenMod and I waiting for an build that will have smooth animations like Samsung ROM and I will never back to Samsung.
BTW.
I installed CM9 + Jelly Bean Animation MOD and everything is almost smooth like Samsung JB...
i dont see any big difference in this comparison.

??? I see a very clear difference... there's a very obvious double stutter with the cm10 based ROM which isnt anywhere near ad bad on the Sammy based ROM.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Ah crap - and here I taught the CM10 builds already contain the JB features. Will then have to wait or even go back to stock as the animation makes a large amount up for (perceived) user experience. Makes me even doubt more why even going through the hassle of going custom ROM. A person losses just too many native features for a little bit of performance gain, and depending on usage, battery life. What a shame as I do enjoy the minimal app approach but if a premium phone's capability are cut I would have rather gotten a cheaper phone which is supported by CM10 or stay with fully functioning stock ROM.
Great post, non biased reporting and extremely informative. There is no way that the info you presented can be taken out of context, misinterpreted or downplayed. Hope it makes some positive ways
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Eh? Shouldn't the Samsung rom have more animations since touchwiz is heavier with animations? What do you think skins are? They don't add less animation on purpose or take away animations from stock, that is just retarded. It is the increased amount of frames that make skins slower than AOSP.
In slow mo tests skins should always >>>>>>>>>>>> CM10 and AOSP.
In speed tests it would be the other way around.
So in theory, Sense 4.0 would win this slo mo test easily with their ridiculous amounts of 3D animations and weather animations that make everything stutter and slow when it chugs. Just that it would look good in slo mo because it wouldn't be fast enough to notice the stutter. LOL
Cm10 isn't as smooth as the sammy. From what I saw at least!!
Sent from either Galaxy S3 intl or Nexus 7
both on stock at the moment!!
I was also disappointed with cm10, wasn't very smooth, it is better on the nexus. And also on the nexus it isn't as smooth as the stock or AOSP roms. But on the s3 it's probably because they don't I the sources yet...
Nice vid
Still going to use cm10 though and not JB leaks.
Thanks everybody for commencts,
Next video will be Samsung Leak vs CM9 with JB Mod animations, but until then I guess CM10 will be fixed soon.
I really would like to see Galaxy Nexus over Galaxy S3 (DLI8)

Hey guys well it seem after watching all the speed tests on youtube, the iphone 5 is generally faster, but the catch is the S3 is running ICS with touch wiz. But i havent seen 1 video were they do a speed test with the S3 running stock jelly bean vs iphone 5! or maybe a touch wiz S3 vs a stock jelly S3, does someone know of one or can make one?

How du you want to do this when there isn't a 100% working 4.1.1 JB for international I9300 S3 in the air?
I think the polish version is not what Samsung wanted, perhaps it was a mistake that it was officially released and and they realised it too late?
I dont know, but I will wait until the real JB is released, it can only be a week or two. (i hope)
THEN I am sure the S3 is as fast as the iPhone 5 and much better overall. The google speak assistant is way better than siri. :good:

Because the animation that you see when you launch an application is lasting 0.5 seconds instead if 1, so you get 0.5 seconds speedup if the application is loaded in that period.

Go try a nexus...
They support 100% jellybean and project butter..
the difference betwen the S3 and this in terms of smothness and ui responsivness are neglegible(when jellybean is 100% operational on the S3 of course, right now the nexus devices run smoother than the S3)...
These threads never end up well, that's why they get closed. Comparison threads in general get closed, much less an iPhone comparison thread.

My annoyance with laggy 4.X.X finally spilled over the edge and I moved back to stock gingerbread. I am loving it!! Lightning fast, just the way it was when I first got nexus s. I miss some of the jelly bean refinement, but the phone responsiveness in everyday use is much more important to me.
Besides stock 4.x.x, I tried cyanogenmod 9.x.x. Lag is just unacceptable. I figure Google optimized ICS to be thread happy targeting new multi-core devices, pushing our single core nexus s under the bus.

I've thought the same thing before and went back.... Browser speed is what sold me on jb. Its painfully slow swiping around pages on GB.
Cm10 stable is same battery life I got on GB...4 hours screen time. About 15 hours with a full charge on 3g without WiFi. I guess its all in the eye of the beholder....

Good video.
It's side by side comparison of
1. Loading the web pages
2. Scrolling down the web pages
3. Opening/closing apps
4. Moving between apps
Scrolling down the web page is the only comparison where ics is ahead. I believe it's only faster while working with large, full size web sites. Also,GB, allows you too scroll before the web site is fully loaded while JB makes you wait longer. I suspect it's a factor in making scrolling choppy

The problem with Androix 4.x is that it eats more RAM than Gingerbread and animations are sometimes laggy on the Nexus S.
I'm running 4.2.1 quite happily on my NS4G. Using the Marmite kernel I have quite a bit of RAM compared to stock kernels. I also limit my background processes as I don't really use any multitasking (2 processes is where I cap it).
Meh, to each their own. I loaded up CM7 stable a few weeks ago and couldn't stand being back on GB, however, my wife is still running 2.3 on her Inspire 4g and I can't get her to even do the OTA for 2.3.5(? maybe .7).
Flash 4.2 and you will feel the real speed.

What i know is that.....cm10.1 have project butter working ( what we call triple buffering ) but it requires some improvement (devs say) ,fm not supported and will be never because cyanogen dont, tv out will also be never fixed ( proprietry undocumented ) and rest others are gonna to be fixed soon.
But the main **** is that samsung is delaying their release schedule, when nexuses are running on 4.2 we are still hoping for 4.1 ,yet we tasted pure aosp 4.1 but partially cooked ( blame to samsung coz no sources no work ). So i m really thankful teamhacksung who are miles ahead from crapsung.

IMHO picture quality is OK comparing to samsung rom. If it's as good as stock, you have to try and check yourself, many things depends on your personal taste. Can't tell you anything about games 'cos I'm not a player. Glitches occurs here and there, but only if you are doing something in background. Overall performance is better with CM, and it is more responsive, but as I said you have to see yourself.

I installed Syiah Kernel, which let's you do dual-boot. So now I have both CM10.1 and my stock ICS on my phone. You can switch between them at boot and choose which you you'd like to you're primary ROM. So you could try that and play with CM to see if you'd like to keep it around
