Hello, guys
I ordered a 2nd hand HD2 and it's gonna arrive any time now. Could you guys tell me how to diagnose the phone to know that it's still in good condition with no errors? Thanks.
Switch it on and use it?

It will without a doubt come after being hard reset, so the OS will be running as new when you recieve it.
I am guessing the OP is referring to the hardware subsystems like the camera etc.
the best way is to go through one by one and check for correct functionality.
thanks for all of the advice, guys. yes, i'll check the functions like camera, wifi, gps, etc. but beside that, what are the quirks or bugs that only happen to some people? i read about overly sensitive screen, sms sent wrongly, etc.

There are an absolute plethora of dodgy problems people seem to have with the HD2, just turn it on and give it a go for a couple of days. If you aren't happy with the phone as it comes do a bit of research and look at installing a custom ROM.
and don't forget that even if it's 2nd hand, you still get the remaining warranty period, so as long as the seller provided you with a valid proof of purchase you can send it back for servicing in case something's definitely wrong with it.
Hi all.
I changed my vega a week ago after the screen became unresponsive to multi touch on the right side. (Which pc world changed no problems, more than three months after purchase) I find that the screen responsiveness a LOT better.
I get no more sticky keys on the keyboard, which was the main problem with the vega. Multi touch seems a lot smoother now to, making google maps a lot better to use. Also there are no accidental presses while scrolling. Maybe they have changed the screen? Cant be software as i am running exactly the same as before.
The new one i got had flash pre-installed (v1.09 firmware), comes up at pc world as a different product as the one without flash pre-installed. So if you have to change yours, try to get one that has flash already on the device. (it will say on the label on the box)
Has anybody else had a similar experience after changing there vega?
Yes, had exactly the same here (mine was registering a single touch as a dual touch) replacement seems better than the first one ever was - in fact quality of the screen seems better in all respects - not sure whether this is just coloured by the relief of having the tablet back and working properly ...
If this is true, I'd consider the idea to ship my Vega to Advent. The double touch thing is maddening.
I've never had any touch issues with my 2 weeks old POV Mobii.. well on AC power there are some issues, mainly when moving homescreen icons because sometimes it thinks i dropped them when i really didn't.
It's definitely not unusable on AC though, much much better than what some of you seem to be experiencing.
I went to PC World last week to get my Vega swapped (screen problems) and they said it is not a Code 5 and will have to go for fixing. Personally I think they should swap it straight over considering the amount of Vegas with the same problem. I tested the one that was on display and you're right, it is slightly different and the screen looks better, and certainly didn't have this screen problem. I'm going back to the store again tomorrow to see if I can convince them to swap it. I don't want to have it fixed because in my opinion it's a manufacturing problem/issue.
Just out of curiosity, how have people here persuaded staff at the outlets to do a straight swap? This is my first dealings with PC World and it's not looking good.

I purchased mine online and returned it in-store. You are right they say its code 5, but there is a number they are supposed to phone to check if they can change it. Sounds like they are giving you the run around. Tell them they do not repair them they do straight swaps. So if you returned it by mail, all they would do is send you out a new one anyway. I used multi touch visualizer to demonstrate the product was faulty, and they were very helpful at the Gloucester store. Might also be worth checking online, to see if they have them in stock.
Also forgot to mention, since changing my vega. I can use the device with now with no screen problems with the device plugged into the ac. I would recommend anyone who has any of the screen problems to return there vegas for a replacement. You will not regret it
Good news! I managed to swap my faulty one for a good one. I went into the store this morning and explained the situation and this time I managed to convince them that they just need to swap it. They obviously checked with their support people who told them exactly what I kept telling them myself. Anyway, I'm just over the moon that I've finally got one where the screen taps don't stick. No I can begin to enjoy the device.
I have also noticed that the screen seems better on this replacement. Maybe Advent ironed out some screen issues, although its a shame they didn't do anything about the viewing angle. No worries as I'm still happy with it. Right....got to find myself a nice stand so I can use this as my music player.
Hi guys,
Great news u give me... I'm definitely getting my replaced.
Any thoughts on what are the key phrases u must tell them to get it replaced??
As English is not my first language any tips on dealing with it will be much appreciated.

Hi Budius
If you're returning it within the 28 days then they shouldn't query anything with you (that's your consumer right). If however like me you're over this period then get them to check with their support people, who will hopefully advise them that this is a straight replacement item. I even mentioned that I'd looked around on internet forums and there were many in the same position (implying that this is a manufacturing defect, is the device's only means operating and therefore should be replaced at no cost to the consumer) and all had their device replaced. Good luck and do let us know how you get on.

Thanks mate,
I'm just finishing some backups and flashing the original rom and will be on my way in a bit.
I checked and I'm within 28days, so should be straight forward.
I'll let u guys know when I'm back.

Hi guys
Yeah I changed it yesterday and as expected, as I was within 28 days, it was prettty hassle free.
I just showed the corners not showing properly and the keyboard repeating like crazy.
The new one I could notice the plastic material on the back a bit different, and for sure it is a different screen, somehow nicer.
I couldn't figure out why adb doesn't want to work in my girls crap old PC, so no clockwork recovery, but testing just the keyboard, there's definitely an improvement.
Cheers

Budius; you can flash CWM without a computer if you get a root-capable file manager and terminal app.
move the files(instead of pushing them) to /data/local/ Then you just remove "adb shell" from the two shell commands and type them into the terminal. Done!
why? - adb shell just runs your commands through the android terminal, so "adb shell XYZ" on your computer is exactly the same as running only "XYZ" in the terminal
I just got a POV tablet (Vega clone) and multi-touch works fine. The viewing angles arent so great which i guess is normal ^^
The tablet did not have flash so its not so recent, but probably not so old either.

When you changed it, did it have flash on it? (v1.09)
As i said in the first post it appears the ones with flash are fixed.

Hmm, thats odd. maybe its after the v1.09 update they fixed it. My vega is far better now. Bad luck.
Hi
I ordered my vega from ebay and i am waiting for it. The seller said that he bought on 22 February. Is the "fixed" version or the old one? How can i find out which version is?

Hi There.
Others have said the plastic on the back is different but i have had mine in a case. So i cant remember what the old one was like. The biggest difference i have seen is with the keyboard. If you get sticky keys you have the old model. As the device was purchased after the v1.09 firmware, there is a good chance you have the newer model. If the device is in the original box it will have a label, if that says it has flash pre installed, the chances are you have the newer model.
Good luck
Very sad news: I found that Transformer is built very bad hardware. The first is designed rickety, open light error and today, my screen was completely out of touch.
I am using normal and always in my pocket camalgams sock opens today but can not be unlocked by sliding finger. I tried rebooting many times. Even reset the rom but still is not. And I think that is certainly due to bad hardware.
The sad thing is that my machine was purchased overseas and now can not guarantee. I thought maybe I never use Asus again.

what is your build number? what ROM are you using? did you try reflashing it? wiping it might not do anything but reflashing could. did you use the nvflash method?

Like said above, what ROM you're running? You can try flashing Prime 1.4 with nvflash and see if it helps.

before I buy one, I have read many complaints about the hardware failure of the Transformer, but finally decided to buy. And I was the victim.
Maybe I was a bit negative, I'm very sorry about that, but the machine of my friends are facing a similar situation (not including loss of touch-screen error).
I'm using the rom Prime v1.4, by nvflash root machine, operating system Android 3.1. I tried to flash and install rom but do not be.

Some people have been able to fix this issue by letting the battery drain completely. This might take a long time though since the device will go into sleep mode once every 15seconds or so and causing it to drain little battery. I suggest you booting into CWM and letting it sit there till it shuts down by itself and then charge it to full to see if it helps. Many have reported success doing this.

I used nvflash to flash, should not be able to recovery, for trying to open up this screen. The fully charged battery,
If it comes down to it,just flash back to the stock rom and uninstall clockwork, send it back with the warranty card and the issue your having and Asus will fix your problem or send you a new tab,a friend of mine had to do that,he has a new tab now.

So sorry, my english is bad. I live in Vietnam and bought this machine in Hong Kong.
My screen is now in the installation. It takes very little battery power, I don't know how long it takes to out of battery
Help me plz !!!!!!!!!!!
I had this problem too with my first TF ... i owned it about 1 hour.
As I went back to the shop they said to me that I wasn't the first with this problem. They just gave me a new one.
So flashing back to the stock rom and sending it to ASUS would be a good solution from my point of view.

What's especially funny is that we have a guy in Vietnam posting clearly enough in English that we know what's going on and have offered suggestions to fix his problem, which he is now following.
I wonder how many of us would be able to do the same in any foreign language forum, much less one in Vietnam.
Excuse the colorful language. I'm a Vietnamese expat who had to learn English, and these sort of grade-school behavior tend to get me hot under the collar. I wish I can help the OP, but I don't have a TF.

I just bought the transformer on Wednesday, and updated to 3.2 as soon as the battery was full enough to do so. I noticed that in the music app, sometimes when i clicked on one song, it would actually play a different one than what i chose. Also, yesterday when i clicked on the music app, thw mynet app opened instead. I went back to the home screem and tried again, but it still opened the wrong app. I force stopped the mynet app and tried again, but withis time it opened a game that i had installed.
I want to use this tablet for school starting on Tuesday, but I can't do that if it's not going to be reliable.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to see this work for the upcoming schoolyear.
I need to figure this out right away, so I can return it to the store if it's not going to work for me.
Oh, also, could somebody leae point me to the asus dock test. I can't seem to find it, and I am not ure if my b60 dock passes.
As I was using my tablet just now, I had the launcher crash on me, and everything was running very slowly. I had to restart my device to get it to cooperate.
So far, this tablet has not been meeting my expectations, or living up to the good things others have said of it. Are these kind of errors new to the 3.2 update? Can I expect them to be fixed soon Or should I return this tablet before it is too late?

You should buy an ipad. I'm sure there are 10 million more threads on ipad stuff than android tablet stuff. There, you will be much happier telling people to use the search function all day long.

You have a defective product. If factory reset doesn't fix these problems, you should exchange it for another one.
My transformer does not behave like what you describe at all. It is probably the only android tablet that could compete face on with the ipad 2. Don't let a defective product deter you.
That or you can just go and get an ipad. Apple's already got an army of whiners. If you don't want to help yourself, you should join them.

Don't worry about it, dude. Some people are anal about the search function. To them, if a newbie can only ask a question if he has spent about 4 hours with the search function.
I've played with the search function before. It really does not find what you try to look for at times.
It's less of a headache if you just ignore the people who are anal about the search. Simply telling people to do a search even though the topic can't be found in search is downright rude. I say this as someone who created a whole website to help dummies with the g-tablet. And take a look at my thanks points.
Simply telling people to do a search is non-productive.

1. Root your tablet.
2. Install Titanium Backup free from Market.
3. Backup all your data using it.
4. Wipe everything (from CWM, or do a factory reset).
5. Flash some good custom ROM (and by good custom rom, I mean Prime).
6. If you're paranoid, wipe everything again after flashing.
7. Restore your apps using Titanium Backup again (only user apps, don't touch system apps).
8. Enjoy running a polished custom ROM with additional goods support with an overclocked kernel happily.
I'm in no way a supporter of full wipe, but if you have weird bugs you're unable to resolve, wiping is often the only way to go. As for the custom rom, running unrooted stock is like knowingly having your Ferrari hardcapped to 80 miles per hour max.
The newer transformers have a locked boot loader. But if you can I would definitely root... My tablet is a beast I can't get this thing to crash out or stutter if I want it to... My buddy just bought his on Friday says it performs perfectly, but no root, factory reset, don't work, return it....

Well, a couple of months have passes, and I have the possibility to buy a Nexus 7 (2013) 16GB for around $200. Still, seeing as there are people reporting no issues and others reporting a lot of them, I'm a bit scared to get a bad one. Now, the offer is only valid for a couple of days and I was wondering if I should buy it now or wait a while longer.
I'd like to know what people who already got the device would do if faced with this situation. Go for it o wait?
I appreciate any input on the matter, thanks in advance.

You're missing out on a great device while you're waiting. There's nothing wrong with either my wifi or my lte N7. I bought the wifi n7 early enough to see what the GPS issue was, but that was completely fixed with a system update. I don't see the multi touch issue or the random reboots. I did have one reboot on one of my tablets, but that was immediately after I plugged in a micro USB reader, so it was pretty obviously the cause. I have a Samsung Note 8 also, and I can tell you both my N7s work far, far more reliably. neither of my N7s have the very annoying random freezes of my Note 8. Buy one, and if you find something wrong with it, return it. Simple enough.

This. If these reported problems are common then I'm one of the lucky ones. Not a single problem with mine and it works beautifully. Easily the best buy of any comparable tablet.
I'm curious to see what ROMs and development support the Kindle HDX will have. Hopefully more developers will take full advantage of its better hardware and if so, that would be something I would consider for the same price.

Most people seem to have good experiences with this device, even though there's the casual hiccup (few reboots and the like). I suppose I could always return the device and wait some more month if there's any mayor issue with it.

I voted yes before I saw you wanted a 16GB version. So, I change to no.
I first got a 16GB with many problems. Later got 32GB and with updates its working fine.
If you cannot return the 16GB it is a big risk (my opinion, obviously biased), but if return allowed you should be safe.

Interesting...Do other people have less or none issues with their 32GB device? Shouldn't it have the same issues, considering it's almost the same device?
Asus just used several different brands of LCD. The problem started with Google released a patch that fixed the few that had issues and now the majority have issues. Some were fixed and some were broken. Some are hardware related (with deadzones) but most are correctable. There are several patches available already from Sfhub in this forum. It takes a little trial and error to find a good one FOR YOU but it works.
Exchanging them until you find one that works doesn't mean it will work after you update a few Google updates. My 32gb was flawless out of the box until the 2nd update "touchscreen fix" that introduced the bug to most.
Fortunately it is found that it is correctable with a software fix and we're just waiting on Google to give us a good fix that encompasses all screen types.
If you want to pick one up, I'd suggest you should do so, especially if you are comfortable with flashing community fixes. I don't have any issues after the patch was flashed. Its also real easy to do.
So the N7 doesn't really have any big flaws hardware wise, which seems like it is just a buggy touchscreen driver or a combination of one driver not working the best across multiple screens. Google will fix it. I'm sure of it.

Buy it now!
There seems to be a lot of focus on the touch screen issue for good reason. There is little focus on the RANDOM RESTART/REBOOT ISSUE.
I personally have had no touchscreen issues in my 2 units. I returned the first unit for multiple random restarts/reboots.
My second unit went through 3 on Wednesday in quick succession for some unknown reason but has been stable since then and previously stable for 150 hours (6 ish days). If you are curious, here is the google product forum with posts about random restarts/reboots. To date it is unacknowledged by Google and is extremely frustrating for me not knowing if the device will randomly choose to reboot.

The device is now 20 days old and I have 10 left in my "exchange" window with my supplier. Theytypically want to replicate issues prior to exchanging which is an interesting dilemma for a random event. My first device rebooted a lot during youtube videos and I was able to replicate that for them. This current unit has recently shut down prior to google app updates. This is not a reboot exactly as it sounds the shutdown tone and then requires a manual restart to find a google app (gmail once, maps once and dont remember the third) awaiting to be d/l'd or installed.
Don't forget the uncertainty of random reboots!!! Annoying, frustrating, not as functionally impacting as a touch screen that doesn't work but still a significant defect.
H/W; S/W; H/W Marginality (timing most likely or ram issues)??? who knows

For me I'll wait until LG G Pad 8.3 release maybe next month, will beat N7, but the only downside with LG is UPDATES.
