Hi
I am looking for an app that will play music (using playlist) from a USB attached via OTG cable and that also works in the background so you can do other things on the Nexus? I have allready tried winamp and Rocket player.
Any suggestions welcomed
Thanks
John
im using poweramp which you can select your music folders
Thanks for that, exactly the kind of app was looking for. Used the trial and then bought the unlocker

OK, I've searched all over the forums and the market and google, but I have yet to find a player that does what I'm looking for... All I want is a "dumb" player. My requirements are this: play by folder, system library with selectable folder scans so it doesn't play ringtones and notifications as music and simple playlist management i.e. Add folder... essentially like winamp for windows. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've tried doubletwist mixzing and winamp and all have some of what I want but none have all. Help please...

Only problem with ttpod is when selecting a music folder the songs play out of order. My mp3 collection is organized artist> album> (track number) - (song name).mp3 it keeps wanting to play based on (song name) alphabetically. Anyone know any way to fix this? Power amp is great but as limited as my income is, I can't justify paying 4.99 for an app.

PS3 does not support MTP, so either copy the music to a PC and use a USB stick or live with it

Try the Media Server app. (or any UPnP / DLNA app you want)
It will enable you to go to Music>MediaServer and browse the music you have on your phone.
Then when you find the song/folder you want to transfer, press Triangle (Options) on the PS3 control and select Copy.
You want to copy more than one song, choose "Copy Multiple" (its at the top of the option bar the pops out from the side of screen)
Make sure you do this under the proper media type.. meaning if you are going to copy music, make sure you are under "Music" on the PS3.
(You can also do this with any file you want from your computer, by using the PS Media Server. Google for it, because I'm not sure I'm allow to link to it here on XDA. Its free and will stream content to your PS3 from your computer.)
I have a rooted Nexus 7 which I'd like to use in conjunction with a large external USB drive as a high-capacity music player. The music player provided with Nexus media importer is pretty basic (no playlist/search functionality etc), so I was wondering whether anyone had any good ideas for turning the USB/OTG media player into a more "native" style solution. For example, is it possible to mount the USB drive so that it would be visible to something like Doubletwist?
Your rooted so get stickmount to mount your drives and use poweramp to play your music!

Thanks for that. I just quickly installed Stickmount and it's mounted my USB drive fine, but Google Music and Doubletwist don't see it. Is there a decent music app that can use USB mounts?
Rocketplayer can befound on google playstore. jetaudio player, zimley. Also.found in googoe playstore.

Can anyone comment on which of these, if any, are good at handling large music collections? (5,500 albums, >80,000 tracks). I use DoubleTwist for this reason.
For my large music library I use jetaudio and avia. but that's on my Toshiba Thrive. I hook it up to a 250 gigabyte external hard drive. on the next 7 I do not yet have an OTG cable. So I can't say for sure. Hope this helps.
I was able to point PowerAmp to my music on an OTG Usb thumbdrive. It streamed just fine.
Hey yo, sorry for necro-posting but for those who want to know how to solve this, I made a tutorial on XDA - Check it out

Yeah, as long as it can read an OTG pen
I did not find a player that recognizes my USB Drive, but i could open the folder with my music with Astro, then chose to open a file with Folder Player and all files from the folder showed up in the player! So i can play them, but of course Folder Player is very limited (cannot change order of tracks, can only have one folder open at a time...)
EDIT: Winamp is able to find and play the files and playlists on the USB drive!
Hi guys,
I have surfed the web about this matter for a certain time. Finally, i found the following android apps which can detect USB OTG and play music without root well:
- Music Folder Player Free
- Player dreams
- n7player Music Player
- Neutron Music Player
- Folder Player
- MortPlayer Music
You can download them via Play Store. I tested them on my Car Head Unit which has Android 4.0.3 OS firmware. All of them were ok.
Just i don't know why "n7player Music Player" crashes and reports Force Close message when you have so many mp3 files (e.g. more than 2000 music files) on your USB.

Hey folks,
I just got some music from a classmate and tried to play it on my device. It won't with every music player app I tried. (Apollo, Play Music, winamp and two or three more..)
I guess I have to convert them to mp3, but I wonder what program is the most convenient. I would love to have my Tags (Title, Album etc.) taken over.
What program provides such functionality?
Thanks in advance!
