10 Mbps HSPA with AT&T on Atrix 4G - Atrix 4G General

For the first time today I have experienced close to 10 Mbps download with AT&T for cellular download. This is pretty amazing. It tells me that:
- Additional T1 back haul are being added to increase bandwidth capacity
OR
- T3 back haul is being implemented for lte footprimt
The good news is that those of us with HSPA devices get increased bandwidth.
These test were conducted today at 4:30 pm, outdoors near West Farms Mall, West Hartford, CT USA on AT&T on the Motorola Atrix running epinter's. CM10.

As my town just finally gets 3G, a slow 2mbps 3G.

That's very impressive! I'm in Australia with what is supposed to be the best mobile network and I get 1.5Mbps on the Atrix using epinter 4.1.1

Awesome. Probably all the sheep moving to their new LTE pastures, freeing up HSPA for other devices.
Sadly still 3.5 down, 1 up for me.

No lte here yet. Possibly building bandwidth for the launch or just for what will always be higher data usage as time goes by. What I do know is that At&t lte is based on full t3 to the tower (45 Mbps).

I have had the same experience in Seattle. Portland is also pretty slow.

I enjoy a rare 5Mbps download speed twice a year. Every other day of the year I never pull out more than 300kbps. It's ****ing terrible. Everyone else's phone makes mine look terrible. And I have AT&T's faux 4g here. And I live in a capital city of 300000 people!

I'm in Chicago, and I'm averaging 3-6mb on BOTH my Atrix and SGSII. I doubt that I'll see 10 anytime soon here, oh well...

I'm in Phoenix here. Recently at my office my speeds dropped to about 1.5mbps down and 1.0mbps up. It's now back up. Yesterday was 5.3mbps and 1.1mbps up and today it's at 6.3mbps down and 1.25mbps up.
I think the slight dip was due to my work being on the edge of the Phoenix LTE zone and they are supposedly pushing it past the line. I live in the heart of Phoenix though and didn't see the change (Home I get a steady 3.0mbps and the old stand by of 1mbps up)

Att Nexus One ATT and T-mobile speed test.

Lets keep this thread clean, pics or info only about the differences between the t-mobile n1 and the ATT n1. Hopefully this thread will help out people to see the difference between the n1 for both services. Reception wise. And to compare how are signal strength between the two phone.
I just received the tmo version, and just ordered this after the ATT version (since im still an att customer) and will return the tmo version as soon as i get the att one (should be by friday). And cancel my new tmo account.
So tonight ill post up tmobile speeds and as soon as i get ATT n1 ill post that up as well. Anybody else willing to add in please do so!
So lets start this:
Area: Southern California
T-mobile nexus one stock rom 2.1update1
Baseband: 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2
Build number ERE27
Signal 2 bars on 3g (best spot in my house, ill upload ones tested outside of the house)

Thats horrible... I get 1800 kbps download and 640upload in portland OR.... ill post later.....tmobile... good thing ya getting your att one....
i get great download speeds but much slower upload speeds. my most recent test was 4.39 Mbs d/l & .33 Mbs u/l. see pics in this thread. i'm using T-Mo N1, MoDaCo Desire ROM-Alpha 12 w/ERE27 Radio and 3G access in Dallas.
yes it is HORRIBLE!!! thats why im glad i didnt cancel my att account and that att n1's are now available and that i have time to return the phone / close my tmo account with out a huge chunk out of my wallet.
i guess its meant to be?!?! lol
Anyways, back to the thread, keep em coming, and hopefully if people around your area decided to get the n1, can be assured that they wont be dissatisfied with the service. Or at least have a little in deciding which carrier branding to get.
Ok reposting tests.
Area: Southern California
T-mobile nexus one stock rom 2.1update1
Baseband: 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2
Build number ERE27
Signal 2 bars on 3g
(best spot in my house, ill upload ones tested outside of the house)
2nd test
(i couldnt wait for the ATT version to arrive, so i popped the ATT SIM card on the tmobile n1)
Everything the same even the spot where i tested it from.
Signal: EDGE full bars
As you can see this is just sad for my case. ATTs EDGE beats out T-mobiles 3g (2 bars). So im guessing the ATT n1 will the choice of phone for me.
Friday is the delivery date of the phone, will post the results by then.
Why is T-mobile's upload so much faster than the download? Is that normal?

I was wondering that too.....my best upload was 1230 kbps while my best dl is 800 kbps. separate times but both with full bars on 3g.
But tmobile will be cancelled on friday . so i didnt bother calling them and asking them why is that.
the tmo band n1 one on the att network was getting .20, so very big difference. was good for light web browsing and email, thats about it.
oh those are in mbps

Well this would only be useful for someone that lives in the same area as you. All carriers reception varies widely depending on where you're located. For instance, here is what I'm getting on T-Mobile and why I won't be changing carriers anytime soon:
AT&T N1 in Rancho Cordova, CA
793 download and 800 upload on speedtest.
I had AT&T on TMo N! but only had edge of course so can't compare.
Atlanta, GA
Sitting in my home office, brick house, full bars.
Test 1
Download: 2618kbps
Upload: 1316kbps
Test 2
Download: 3349kbps
Upload: 1210kbps
Damn, this thing is fast. Maps is essentially instantaneous in updating the page.
Here's what I got on my AT&T N1. The bottom result is of course on Wifi. The rest are on 3G.
The results are in Mbps.

Thats true, but thats why i wanted more people to share their results and please include your area. So the more people we have sharing the more area we get covered. And hopefully whoever is browsing here will most likely be in an area that someone had already posted.
**And to everyone, sorry to be a pain, but could you please include area, how strong is the signal and either 3g or EDGE, which version of the phone (att/tmo) and which carrier you are using. That way speedtests, pictures, and info are all in one post! thanks!**
2900 kbps down and 957 kbps up on ATT in Columbus, OH
That's using speedtest.net app.
I was getting over 3000 down lastnight. ATT is awesome. I dunno why people give it such a bad wrap...
All depends on where you are but I believe AT&T generally has more backhaul to their towers than T-Mobile.
Unless they're experiencing congestion, then AT&T is often faster. But in major cities like NYC, AT&T does sometimes have congestion problems.
In some areas, you'll see extraodinarinly fast speeds on T-Mobile (5-6mbps in Philadelphia and parts of New York). Over the next several months T-Mobile is increasing backhaul to their towers so you'll see speeds like this all over their network soon enough.
That's really the bottom line here...and if they have good coverage in your area my preference would be to T-Mobile, having used both networks.
I am in the 626 so-cal area and I typically get around 800/600 through T-Mobile. My friends on att get similar numbers on their iPhones.
Tests from NYC and Northern NJ on T-Mobile:
T-Mobile 3G - Kansas City, KS
Down: 1479 kbps
up : 223 kbps

I'm getting 1580 down and 1740 up in Denver, CO using AT&T N1, 3G, full bars.

Nice! -- Yeah... It'll be nice to see what sort of "real world" scenarios of devices that have 21 Mbps HSPA+ compatible radios in them. The 7.2 Mbps max on the Nexus One on the TMO version really hampers it from taking full advantage.

Here's Portland Oregon. Decent ... good speeds just need a better signal
Sorry, but Nexus One doesn't support HSPA+! (http://www.google.com/phone/static/en_US-nexusone_tech_specs.html)
Nexus One is "just" HSPA=HSDPA+HSUPA (7.2Mbps & 2Mbps).
HSPA gives up to 14.4Mbps DL and 5.7Mbps UL.
With HSPA+ you can reach up to 56Mbps (with MIMO and 64QAM).
AT&T might be upgrading their IP backhaul and backbone...
I've reached 4.7Mbps and 1.3Mbps in Movistar Chile.

The truth about WIMAX/clear?

Im letting you know ahead of time that this is a random rant. So I have been wondering what's the real deal holyfield with sprints so called wimax. I read somewhere that wimax really isn't TRUE 4g as it doesn't even max out at true 4g speeds. The most I've hit was about 5mbps. So is it really even 4g? And tmobile hspa + network is that faster that our wimax? My sister comes to my apt in my 4g area and her g2 gets about 6 mbps with her hspa. Why does it seem like gsm has way better data. We all know sprints 3g isn't really 3g its piss poor. If this LTE is supposed to beat out wimax why did sprint roll with it over LTE. I'm thinking sprint wanted to get a **** ton of subscribers so they just went with wimax cause it would roll out way before LTE but I definitely don't think wimax/clear is true 4g. I also heard the clear ceo jumped ship or something lol. If the national standard is supposedly going LTE what would sprint/clear do, will they adopt new technologied in their phones and leave wimax phones out to dry? So the real 4g is LTE and wimax just seems like it should be labeled pre4g, cause I hear LTE will be able to get 10mbps down and 3-5mbps up. That's stronger than most peoples internet eh? I am kind of pissed for paying an extra 10 bucks for 5mbps in a strong area and in my area my 4g hits only about 2. Is sprint going to be the only provider using wimax? The moral of this pointless rant is just to get my knowledge and others about the future/truth of wimax. I just want to understand how this service compares to this new LTE and tmobiles and atts new 4g network. It would be nice just to come in and drop comments on any question asked in this post instead of flame me, or post non sense.
A small search woudl have answered all questions....
First, nobody has a "true" 4G network as no 4G network reaches 100mbps yet. Another thing, Sprint is working on a WiMax/LTE hybrid network, or so it goes. Speed depends where you live. I hit 10mbps easily here in Orlando, some people can't hit above 1. Some goes for ANY network on earth.

I got almost 12 as you can see in my signature.
I hit 9-10 all the time in Houston. Hell I get 1-2 on 3g. And you can bet Verizon will charge for lte.
funny you should mention that gsm is always faster than sprint cdma. i was in denton tx last night for an interview and compared my evo on 3g(running gingerbread with no wimax) and i got 1566 kb down compared to his 447 kb down. denton is a college town but not exactly small. i usually get 2-5 mbps down on 4g but havent tested it lately as i am doin the gb thing

maybe because there's not alot of people connected to these antennas
You guys all seem to be getting pretty good speeds. Me on the other hand I rely on 3g I might get 1 mbps on a good day and I'm happy.
The server you use on speedtest makes a huge difference as well, try to use one that has an internet backbone near it like Atlanta, DC or Chicago for the east coast. I get maybe 2 or 3mbps on speedtest with a server that is not 30 miles from here yet I get 8mbps on another that is almost 1000 miles away.
WiMAX and LTE are still considered pre-4G atm but it's an actual 4G network, all we need is a firmware update to have true 4G. at&t & t-mo on the other hand will Never have real 4G with HSPA+. btw, I get 8mbps in Orlando and on the east coast near there all the time using the atlanta and harold, ky servers, actual speeds during use vary though.

MAD look at this

My buddy was in town and he has Verizon and look at his his 4g speeds man I'm mad.

What makes me angry is that the upload speeds that EvDO Rev.A can do are faster than the throttled upload at 1.5Mbps on Sprint's 4G network. You can literally upload faster in 3G mode than you can in 4G mode. To make things worse, the average speeds I see with 4G are those that can be achieved in 3G.
Yet the 802.16-2005 standard allows 128Mbps downstream and 56Mbps upstream. For mobile WiMAX. Not fixed. It's beginning to become a joke considering the spectral efficiency of WiMAX paired with all the money Sprint dumped into building the back-haul for their 4G network. They need to stop throttling the hell out of their 4G network and take care of the trouble spots later. It's stupid.

Here in Denver I usually get 5 or 6 Mb speeds on WiMax, but I only turn it on when I have something big to download, which is rarely. Other than bragging rights I really don't feel much need for that kind of bandwidth on my phone. Reminds me of the people who overclock their phones to get super-high benchmarks. As long as the phone runs smoothly who cares about the numbers.

And just calling it 4g is a lie... and idk where sprint says they have the fastest 4g, their claim is allways The 1st in 4g... cuz they launched the first "4g" network, apparently it doesn't matter that its crap...

Very high speed I live in austin texas and get 4g almost every ware but the highest VERY RARE speed seen is about 10 mbps down and 1.8 up.
Normally I see is 4 mbps down and 1.5 up with full bars.....
Verizon speed are hell of fast there to bad verizon lte is not in austin texas
There is an easy fix for this don't yah know
Jump ship to Verizon, pay twice as much, be limited on your data, and you too can have super fast speeds that you cant afford to use

Where in Denver? I was at Elitch's on Saturday and got garbage for 4g.. No more than 1 bar if I was lucky with constant timeouts from websites. Connections around DTC aren't much better. I'm starting to wonder if I have a problem with my phone...
I live in north carolina and i'm used to getting somewhere between 7-10 mbps down and around 1.3-1.5 up. sometimes it will jump from 11-13 mpbs down. it just depends on where you live.

Where in NC are you getting that speed? In Charlotte I only get 2.5 - 4 mbps down, with 1.4 up. I don't think I've ever managed over 7 here.
In general my Fiance's Thunderbolt gets far greater 4G speeds than my Epic does in the Tri State area.
Verizons LTE connection seems far more stable as well. Sprints 4G is incredibly spotty most of the time.

Not to mention average 3G speeds of VZW are 1.5 - 2x the speeds of Sprint... but so are the prices. I opted to keep my SERO premium instead of jumping on VZW unlimited data family plan with my s/o, like the Epic but now wonder whether I made the right decision.

Unreal Three UK 3G speeds!! WTF!

I received my note 2 LTE N7105 from t-mobile this morning. After leaving to charge and investigating how to unlock the phone (thanks t-mobile for locking it!!) I manged to unlock it with a great app on play store (UnlockUnit) and the N7105 inst even supported yet lol
T-mobiles 3g speeds are terrible where I am in London, average 2-3megs, I didn't care anyway cause the plan was to give their sim to my lil boy, while I pop my 3uk sim in there, happy whit their speeds for a long time, but now check this out!!! I cant reproduce theses speeds with the mrs S3, its still around 9megs on her s3 but when I pop sim into the note 2 its just wow!!

This was the highest speed, average for about 10 tests were around 15-16megs! 3 seems to have upgraded their network! Anyone else with 3uk experiencing this? My network type is reporting HSPAP:15, who needs to sigh up to 4G when you got this crazinessnessness!
That's pretty nuts! How does it feel streaming content off something like youtube with those speeds?
Effortless! No buffering at all. Netflix is like a dream. I don't want to touch the handset in case speed diminishes!
I'm searching google for info on this but am finding nothing. The 3g only note 2 N7100 that i sent back wasn't giving me these speeds
Its slowed down very recently, maybe due to terrible ping? Then sped up again in the 2nd pic, orgasmic!
Cant believe I'm calling 14meg 3g connection slow. I'll accept that. Please, my fellow 3uk users, please share your speeds

I'm getting about 3mb/s H+ here but then again I've never gotten good signal at home.
However my mate on 3 UK has similar 3G speeds on his iPhone 5. I guess mine should be about the same but last time I tried it next to him he wasn't getting great speeds either, seems a bit hit and miss depending on where you are.
Best I've had at home was about 5mb/s
Changing from giffgaff to 3uk soon as there droping there unlimited.
Lets see what ill get on the normal n7100

I'm on N7100 and use 3's One Plan.
I get 12mbps consistently on HSPA+ in central london.
OP - Are you also on HSPA+? I noticed yours says 3G+, Is that just HSPA+? Cos 3 don't roll out LTE until next year.
I guess the modem on the N7105 gives HSPA+ an extra kick.

Which modem version do you have installed? I'm on LJ1 (don't even know if there are any other modems tbh) and I didn't get anywhere near this in/near central london (Angle Islington counts, right? )

My baseband says LJ1, which I'm pretty sure is the modem.
I'm located at Westminster. So what speeds do you get then? If it's not hugely off, I would just blame the traffic nearby.

Just got 79ms ping, 1.91mbps dl and 1.07mbps ul.
Located in Redbridge, and for some reason the speed test app has decided to use a server in sittingbourne rather than the london one.

I'm not sure what I'm on but my network type reports HSPAP 15. Switching to UTMS sometimes. Is this the info you wanted?
I'm in south west London, I did get a text from 3 notifying me of works being carried out in my area about a month ago tho. Wonder what they did or is this, like someone said, thanks to the lte radio even though 3 haven't released lte yet?
Im on 3 and very happy with speed I get in cleethorpes

Yes, I was gonna say that... I am getting my S3 LTE today and I am on three..
I have been benchmarking Three's speeds at various locations using my S3 and N2... I will report my findings here...
On 3 one plan.. Who needs LTE with speeds like this haha

Superb to see others with these crazy speeds. These 18mb speeds I'm getting are from inside my house. I wonder how fast it'll be outside. I'll report
I was seeing a trend of only the n7105 getting the 4g like speeds but its good to see n7100 reaching the speeds too. Wasted my time returning my n7100 for a n7105
I can confirm DC-HSPA+ in action on Three UK
I am getting in the excess of 10mbps+ in the same location in my house whereas before I used to get less than half the speed...
