Maximum Overclock Speed? Defy (Red Lense) - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, what's the craziest clock speed I can get without breaking my phone?
Defy (Bayer, Orange lense)

Umm... I hope you know, you are writing into Milestone 2 board?

I know, I made a mistake :S I have the two phones
I know, I made a mistake :S I own both a Defy (Red Lense) and a Milestone2. I just happened to post this one in that forum lol

Hence a bit rude earlier, but it is the second thread from you which is pointless.
Instead of creating a new thread, you could do some research how to improve your battery life.
You should know, that CM7 for GT-i9000 is still in heavy development and the CM7 guys is putting their best effort to solve this issue(s) + they just got the GB source, which i think is going to improve CM7.
The simple way to get rid your drain, is to flash another ROM

some question about ms2

i live in china, the mistakes of language please skip them
1. CPU
OMAP 3630 Ti factory frequency is 720mhz, not 1ghz
here is the Ti official link: focus.ti.c o m/pr/docs/preldetail.tsp?prelId=sc09020§ionId=594
i really appraciate the quality of Ti CPU...I'm using ms2 at 1.3ghz, compare with the factory frequency,580mhz more.
is there any danger to overclock so much?
please give me some suggestion
2.Touch screen
i don't the details about the problem that ms2 has the touch delay...
someone says that it is caused by rom, others think it's about the screen quality.
i just want to know is the ms2 in other countries have the problem?
or droid 2 have the same problem?
how to resolve the problem?
3.bootloader&bootstrap
MOTO's official rom is really ungelivable, and bootloader lock the rom...
but bootstrap can escape the bootloader and put in the rom without certification or authorizing...
so why there isn't enough rom we can use?
i know the agen2stone, but the temprature is really let me feel scared...sometimes over 50C (temprature in china and about 122F)...and i don't like the UI. the most important , it is based on the official rom...but it is much better than official rom...
expecting a2s 2.0...
3.1 CM7 AND unofficial rom
defy have already had the CM7 and MIUI...
MS2 AND DEFY both have the bootloader, to adjust roms for defy into ms2 is much easier than other way(personal thinking, may be not correct).
i'm not good at development, hoping some developers can take my suggestion to get success on the CM7 or unofficial rom for ms2...
i can't use link yet, skip the space between the c o m in the link.
thanks
1. Orig Milestone is based on TI OMAP 3430 with 550mhz processor. People overclocking it to 1,2ghz. Milestone 2 which is based on TI OMAP 3630 (as well as Droid 2) is overclocked to 1ghz, and Droid 2 Global to 1,2ghz with the same chip, and it's stock frequency set by Motorola. I think they wouldn't overclock it if there would be any danger. More dangerous to your cpu is to high vsel level and temperature
2. I bet it's a software/touchscreen drivers problem. Anyway I will report it to them with some vid samples with comparison to other devices . I hope they will fix it with next updates.

I find max frequency at 1350Mhz (with stock vsel 66) and from what I've seen in other european Milestone2, it seems to be the limit of this device.

I don't think a non-Chinese-speaking could get the meaning of ungelivable.
It's kind of kuso and totally Chinglish.

1.No need to worry about this
2.The cause is commomly considered to be the ROM itself. However, due to the BL , we can`t solve now.
3. There is a hardware checker in Milestone2, which will check the kernel everytime we boot the rom. Bootstrap just partly bypass the BL in software. STill not able to run custom kernel. So there is no real custom rom for us.
3.1 There is still some differences between their BLs. According to Mikevhl, MS2`s BL somehow locks more. But I think it`s just the matter of DEV`s effort. DEFY has many many many DEVS......while we MS2er just has MIKEVHL.........
For now, just support MIKEVHL and await him to release something

Agreed,
Think about manufacture process of different CPUs which have the similar architecture.
They made from one silicon wafer but they labeled different clock rates depend on different stability levels in testing, and, this is not the frequency they designed for.
Manufacturers can also block some cores, L2-cache or something, so, that's AMD Phenom X3 and Phenom X4, some models of Intel Celeron and Pentium.

Actually, this word came form a Chinese network language ( or slang ) "给力" which speaks just like "geli". It means energetic, very helpful or forcefulness. So "ungelivable" was made by the morphology of English words.
For example: The cheat sheet is sooooo ungelivable, I can't find anything related on it!
Congratulations, you got it.

From the official web page from Ti, the difference between 3630 and 3620 is the 720p...3630 can play 720p originally, but 3620 wasn't...Maybe MOTO fortify it with PowerVR 530...

(q) want 2 buy defy

Guys i want to buy motorola defy or plus or mini which one should i buy and by the way i read tht defy has a speaker fault is tht true and in which its running is tht froyo r what...
And is defy could b overcloked and if it is thn how much and what is its chipset
And is mini avlble in india
Which 1 do i have reply pls
And currently im usng samsung galaxy y
I don't think Mini is available yet(Not in flipkart, letsbuy or ebay)?! I would say don't go for Mini go for either Defy or Defy+. If you are into MODs then I suggest go for Defy since it is almost similar to Defy+ but cheaper. However if you are not into MODs and want to stick with the stock go for Defy+. Both Defy and Defy+ can be overclocked easily to 1.2Ghz and with correct settings you may also try 1.4Ghz but 1.2 should be suffice in most cases! A Defy comes with Froyo and 800Mhz proc whereas Defy+ has 1Ghz proc and a stock GB. They have TI OMAP chipset 3610 and 3620 respectively, though both chipsets are debated to be the same with diff names.
Apart from that Defy+ have more memory(extra about 1.2GB for apps).
The Defy and Defy+ are almost identical, with the exceptions being the battery (bigger for the Defy+), stock overclocked CPU (1ghz for +), red lens only for +, Gingerbread kernel only for +.
The storage space is the same (around 1.2gb).
They have the same CPU (TI OMAP3630) despite Motorola's claims.

Errr the mempry management is little different bro! And new Defy has red lens!
Defy+ has got another extra 1GB for ROM ie. the ROM is not stored in the same 2GB internal memory available! An excerpt from comparision in gsmarena:
2 GB storage, 512 MB RAM 2 GB storage, 512 MB RAM, 1 GB ROM
URL: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3514&idPhone2=4098
Yes, Defy+ has a red lens only, I posted that. The Defy had green and red lenses. RAM memory management is controlled by the software, so that doesn't depend on the hardware.
I don't particularly trust GSM Arena, could anyone with a Defy+ confirm the internal storage space differences?

I wub my defy ^^
but.. I'd get something with an unlocked bootloader ^^
Then you'll get a puppy that really flies!!
I like my defy.
Defy is easy root, easy to get into boot, as soon as you get rid of bloatware, find a good ROM its a pretty decent phone. Try and find one with red lens if you plan on flashing cm 9 (or even some cm7's).

I am curious... What the benefit of the red lens?
Anyways, I just recently purchased an unlocked Defy+ and it's a great little phone. Very responsive, amazing cellphone radio signal reception and the CrystalTalk technology is awesome. These are the main reasons why I still prefer a Moto phone over the usual slew of Androids.

However, the mobile hotspot feature is not working well for me at the moment...
Any ideas anyone?

NOPE...1.2 GB Internal on Defy+ and not 1GB ROM and 2GB Internal
I knew it . Basically, the only differences are from the battery and GB kernel.

Yep that's true! Wish I knew about this forum and all the mod gyaan before I bought my Defy+ !!! Should I have known I would have bought a Defy instead!
i always prefer normal Defy. u can be sure to get a froyo-kernel! (more possibilities flashing different roms).
If the Defy+ is delivered with the newest GB-Version u can only flash GB-Kernel Roms (some Roms are only built with froyo-kernel, e.g. MIUI Pikachu).

Well, I can't really say why, but some roms just don't support overclock over a certain amount I think.
I've always been satisfied with 1 GHz, and plus, there's not so much difference between 1 and 1.2 on this
crappy TI OMAP processor of ours.

[q] is that original defy+ rom is sluggish??

I'm facing some sluggish performance of my phone, I've not rooted it yet.
the problem is that when I'm playing TEMPLE RUN 2 it can not handle it while I've other phone XPERIA TIPO which have only 800MHz of Processor and still I can run play it...........

Yup, change to low.
Yup, change to low. The official rom has only 350 mb usable RAM, while most custom roms have 450+. I have seen the bad performance on the official unrooted defy+.
