hi
i just bought a new atrix from a guy and i look in the about info and find it is for bell mobility in Canada. what i am concerned about is is being able to update to ICS when they release the update.
i am in the usa and on the att network
bell may not even offer it. what should i expect. thanks
ps i want the official motorola update only.
thank you for your help
I wouldn't worry because we're not getting ics. If it was going to come out it would have had a leak by now.
And fyi you should never use a stock from anyways, go get neutrino or epinters.

Just because nothing's been leaked it doesn't mean that we aren't getting the update. I just means that nothing's been leaked.

That's just stupid.
First of all, you can't tell people what to do.
Second of all, many important parts of custom ROMs wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for stock.
Plus, you're missing the point entirely.

BTW it's ravilov.
No, you will not be able to update to ICS even if you're running under AT&T network. The Bell Atrix 4G which is an international version of the Atrix is not the same phone as the AT&T version. Best bet is to unlock your phone and either flash one of the existing ICS or Jelly Bean ROM's, or wait for an official release and hopefully a stock one or a ROM based on the stock one will exist.

Hey guys, just curious since I havent gotten a chance to use a rooted phone yet.
-When google comes out with 2.2 froyo update, are we able to update it from a rooted rom or does it have to be under stock condition?
+1. will be going from cyan to stock again when froyo comes out. but how?
You'd probably have to wait until someone post the stock rom of froyo, and then flash that.
Or flash on of the numerous stock ROMs that already exist, and get OTA like the rest of us.
Or wait for cyan for his release which I believe will be soon after the official release.
You will have to wait until either someone posts a stock 2.2 ROM that world with rooted phones or someone like cyanogen updates.
Once a different recovery is installed on the phone, the OTA system will never work again. Not even if you go back to stock.
This is a complete non issue. The stock 2.2 rom may very well be available to flash here before you recieve the ota if its a rolling release. If not it will be a close race. BTW, The ota looks for a stock officially signed recovery to install itself with, if you do not have one the ota will fail.

Just out of interest (I am not making any judgements), why do you want to go from CM to stock as opposed to a CM modded version of 2.2?
Or are you just assuming 2.2 will drop before CM has time to mod it so want to get on it asap?
ill just wait for cyano to release its froyo version...
I'd be willing to bet that the features present in 2.2 will reach a version of CM before they reach any non-rooted N1. I'm just saying... we already have some of the features currently, i.e. customizable trackball notifications.
that really just depends on when google pushes the sources of 2.2 into AOSP. so chances are that a stock 2.2 will be available sooner than a cyanogen 2.2, but it will be worth the wait

That's not true. I did a warranty replacement a while back and restored the phone to stock before sending it back. I used the SAPPIMG.zip method to restore the shipping ROM, recovery, and radio. After rebooting and setting up the phone, I was offered the OTA update and the OTA completed successfully. Being bootloader unlocked did not affect my ability to get OTA updates.
A little confusion here it seems and I will throw out my understanding. An ota will work if it does not have to access an officially signed recovery, if it does and does not find one it will fail. Once you have installed a custom recovery going back to the stock one will not help in this regard because it is no longer officially signed. 2.2 will require an officially signed recovery to install and everything I read says it will be seen, it will download, then it will fail to install. If this is incorrect than I look forward to learning more about this question as it keeps popping up over and over. I have yet to hear from any owner who was able to update from 2.0 to 2.1 after having installed a custom recovery, seems like there would have been many....
I love the cm7 and wish someone would make a cm7 rom for the D2.
Its pretty much impossible with the locked bootloader. Cm7 needs a custom kernel that the locked bootloader doesn't allow, so were stuck with stock.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
well that sucks.
Try liberty, it's about as good as it gets at the moment. I think keyjar is also working on a gummyJar GB version, which should be a solid rom as well. There is a working UD port for D2, but it's still on RC2 and hasn't been updated in a while, though I ran it for a few weeks and it was pretty solid. Liberty GB is also in the works, though not publicly available atm. CM7 isn't really necessary for the D2, since most of what you would get can be had in other roms currently available, just via some different means.
any way to get the lockscreen gestures currently?
Cm7 DOES NOT need a custom rom. It will run better if it does but it's not required. But we don't have aosp Rome such as cm7 because the locked bootloader makes it hard to make things work

Alright I wanna clear this up.
Cyanogenmod is a custom rom. We can install those on our Droid 2/X devices with Koush's Bootstrap tool. That said, we cannot install a custom kernel. Thus, cm-kernel for Droid 2/X is probably not going to happen anytime soon. However, that is not to say that Cyanogenmod 7 requires a specific kernel. I see no reason why Cyanogenmod 7 could not run on the stock Motorola kernel.
Moving on, cvpcs is working on a Cyanogenmod port for Droid X (and thus also Droid 2). When the rom will be stable, however, is unclear. As far as I understand, it's not really working.
-Zane
More importantly, this is the development section, not the request section. There is no request section for a good reason.

Ok, for those who aren't searching these days...
1 - Cyanogen won't come out officially with a D2 port until Moto unlocks the bootloader
2 - Cyanogen actually doesn't need a custom kernel to do what it does
2a - Go use Liberty..its effectively Cyanogen sans a 'custom kernel' and does all the same.
Me, I'm flashing back to stock for a while. Liberty 2.0 is causing me some headaches as of late and I can't download @#$ from the market it seems cause its like everything is fricken blocked now.

I thought Motorola stated that they would unlock the bootloader, but it was up to the carriers whether or not they would allow for it.
Jordan umts is the codename of the Defy... which is also locked.... and we are the 4th device in cyanogen 7 number of installs stats

Originally, yes, it was Motorola's policy to lock the bootloader, but they had announced recently that they would leave the bootloader unlocked, at least for phones on carriers that allowed it (so, I would at least guess that AT&T would be out of the picture, since they've even been controlling of the ability to sideload apps).
Working on it come help if you can:

I wonder if this Merge update has the same bugs our 2.3.3 Evo Shift update from Sprint has like the major problem with the Sense reloading. If not, I hope that Sprint will follow very soon if this update if it doesn't have any major bugs.
Any Sprint insider info out there on if the Shift will be getting this 2.3.4 version too??? Especially if it fixes the Sense reloading issue.
What you should do is root your phone ASAP and NOT accept any OTA from HTC/Sprint while you still can. If you want to run Sense there are many Sense based ROMs you can flash.

Just say no to OTA's . When and IF the Shift gets another update hopefully people have learned their lesson. Don't accept OTA's. If your already rooted stay that way. Wait for updates to be worked on by the Dev's.

Just an FYI:
The last time there was a major OTA update for the Shift, I posted a working, rooted version of the update within four hours of us getting the zip file. I'm pretty sure we had a rooted Gingerbread Sense ROM available before the official update was available OTA for most of you.
I have no idea why anyone with an interest in keeping root access would ever accept an OTA update from Sprint.

And if we don't get an official version, there are definitely enough similar devices listed that we could get a GREAT port
I just saw the link under the post that you linked, which says that the Explorer is on the update list for ICS. If that's true, and the desire z is still not getting an update, i think i'll end up pulling all my hair out!
I really hope we can get an official update still.
Hopefully, the ONE V will give the devs the port material for ICS!
ICS for Desire Z
If we just want an ICS port for DZ, we still have a lot barring some raregraphical glithces, Camera and FM radio. Porting One V will also pose the same problems as HTC uses some different chipset for camera in it. So the drivers maynot be the same for both the devices. Also, One V uses 3rd generation snapdragon whereas our DZ uses 2nd generation processor.
Our best bet is DHD ICS update.
Fingers Crossed !!

Okay I am a noob at all this, if my question seems dumb just chalk it up to that.
I have a G2 the link stated that we MAY be getting the update, if you are running CM7 and no longer use standard rom would that still update or do I need to just sit back relax and wait for CM9 ?
I do want to say that since finding this site I have rooted s-off and modded both mine and my wifes G2 and have had no trouble. Just saying thanks to everyone on the site.
Generally custom ROM's like CM7 can not use OTA update functions, that's been turned off by the dev's. But if you wanted to use a Stock Sense 4.0 ROM for our phone (*if* it will be ever released), then you'd probably be better off waiting for a custom release. If you were to use any sort of way to install an official release, whether that is OTA or manual update using an update file then you'd potentially be S-ON'd with pretty much stock everything, potentially a phone that's completely stock, which depending on what's been changed may not be root-able. Surely don't want that!
Now there's no official CM9 dev'ing for our phone as of yet because the CyanogenMod team has stated it will not start dev'ing until official proprietary drivers for our chipset (which is similar to a lot of HTC phones) have been released. So, once official DHD / DS / OneV / SensationXL ICS has been released then the CM team will most likely start dev'ing on CM9 for our phone. Yet, Andromadus, the unofficial CM9 and JIBWich ROM's are the closest thing to CM9 we have as of yet.
With all that said, we will probably be seeing Sense 4.0 ROM's (ports, not official stuff) in the coming days...Matter of fact is, I think we have two dev's trying to port a Sense 4.0 ROM over from the MT4G dev section. So hopefully we will have our chance to play around with Sense 4.0 pretty soon!

All that, and installing an OTA on a rooted device may also bootloop the device, or otherwise render it incapable of booting. Don't ever install an OTA on a rooted Android device.
Rooted versions of official updates usually get posted here very soon after the official release, sometimes ever earlier (in the case of leaks which then get rooted, before the official ROM actually hits OTA)! So just be patient, and wait for the a pre-rooted version.

Also when ics comes, I will gladly do the same for that. I'm not looking to unlock til after official comes so it will be a true update. Lemme know if I can help with development in any way shape or form with this backup.

Probably not. We already have fruit cakes, and for that it doesn't really matter if the phone's been unlocked. Besides, you need to be unlocked to flash it anyway.

Got another question that I just thought. Do you think I should unlock now BEFORE official ics? What worries me is the blocked bootloaders some refurbished atrixes are coming with. I'm scared moto may put out a blocked bootloader along with the official ics. That would suck. What's your take?
The fruitcakes that are listed do not contain that version. I for one would be interested in having it available as a backup to restore.
Yes, GB236 (4.5.141) is available.
Edit:
I am actually posting a link on zeljko1234's backup thread for that very fruit cake now. The one that is currently there doesn't work. Just fixed it and it work's perfect.
